    The fuel pump should be as close to the fuel tank as possible, or you should install a low-pressure in tank to prevent cavitation. That's what you have, hence the noise the pump is trying to prime

      Not to mention an inline pump is more likely to overheat versus an in-tank pump in that Mexico heat.

    Great episode guys! Some advice re the old fuel pump: I have experience with those pumps and they do not fail very often but if you look carefully inside the suction side of it you will see it has a very fine strainer/filter made from plastic. If you are careful you can pry it out with a very thin screwdriver blade or scriber. Be very careful not to perforate the fine mesh! I am willing to bet it is blocked up with crud from your fuel tank. Give it a good clean and push it back in. Hope this helps.

    one thing I will recommend is that you buy a few spare fuel pumps and add a pre filter before the pump to stop junk from getting in and wrecking them. the further south you go, the more likely you'll encounter bad quality fuel.

    • @missingremote4388
      @missingremote4388 Рік тому

      Change both the pump when you change the frame (chassis)mounted filter.
      - found out the hard way on my own Chinook concourse RV. New filter are less restricted and/or free flowing . This messes with a tired used fuel pump. Original used pump will fail in 100 to 200 miles when paird with a fresh fuel filter

    just a random thought, the charcoal canister might be clogged or partially blocked, causing the fuel pump to work harder than normal, which is what's putting the strain on the system. Might try a bypass and see how that works. I've had canister problems on my 80 after I added a 42 gallon aux tank. It created pressurization problems in the tank, which affected my secondary fuel pump.

    Just over 15 yrs ago a friend and I drove that winding highway in a Honda Civic. We got stuck behind a Toyota pickup but the guys driving kept driving faster and faster as we were tailgating them. Eventually Squealing tires in the hairpin turns the yota almost sideswiped a bus and some goats. Eventually they allowed us to pass but then they turned on us and attempted to drive us off the road. We thought we were having a good time but apparently that weren’t. Having heard stories or people getting stabbed while we were in Zacatecas I took off and drove like a madman all the way to mazatlan. We ended up finding they’re truck again while in the city a couple days later. I contemplated taking a dump on their hood but my friend talked me out of it.

    Another great one. Hope you guys have another fuel pump by now. I’d be a nervous wreck driving like that.

    Great camera work! Tone down the "epic narration", every line does not need to be an inspirational cliche poem about life lol! Don't become Clay at Expedition Overland, who is great at filming and terrible at narration. This adventure will speak for itself. I'm glad I found your channel and am very much enjoying your journey, later!

    Out of all the things to save money on (especially on a trip to South America) the fuel pump was a really poor decision. I'd have someone state side ship me a quality pump before heading any further south. "Aeromotive" makes darn good bullet proof inline pumps.

    don't know why you keep making it an exception or something.

    I honestly had no idea that such a road existed in Mexico or that they had mountains of that magnitude. I had the thought that they probably have very few repeat offenders for drunk driving as that road looks like it would take them out of the game. Being in the land of John Wayne must be magical. (Random thought)
    The stay dog was a heartbreaker, but you guys helped her out at least for a day and that was good of you. Oddly enough, no language barrier between man and beast, finally a Mexican you could communicate with easily.
    Stay safe and enjoy yourselves and each other. By the way, I wore my Toyota World Runners T-shirt and it fit like a T. Ha, pardon the pun. As it would be, the T-shirt finds me without a Toyota as my current ride is a early model Isuzu Trooper that I just recently bought from the nephew of the guy I sold it to last year. A long story, but I tend to by and sell Japanese 4x4s as a way of funding my trips into the woods. You guys rock.

      We've been so surprised in the best way by Mexico, Baja included. Like you we had no idea the road existed until we were browsing maps and noticed the obscure winding route and had to investigate. Troopers are awesome. They're square in the best way! Haha. Thanks for being here Phil 🤙🙏

      @@trashman1694 I think you meant to say coors light, Busch, bud light, natty ice shits. Tecate is literally a level above US over abundance of trash beer. Corona is the Fosters of Mexico, nobody actually drinks it in the country that it’s from.
