In 1968, I was in grade school, and had to have my tonsils taken out during Christmas vacation (worse Christmas I ever had). I was at Shawnee Mission Hospital when it was just the small building and Marilyn Maye came to the hospital to sing for the people. I was laying in bed and I heard someone singing, so my room mate and I went out to see what was going on. Someone said Marilyn Maye was singing and I couldn't see her because I was little, and we were all the way in the back of the hallway, and she was up in the front. That's the first time I ever heard a famous person sing in person. That was the only good memory of having my tonsils taken out. The rest of the time, I was too sick and my throat was so sore, I wasn't really a happy camper and I remember sleeping a lot. God bless Miss Maye!! Glad to see she's still performing.

Well, a deep well. How does one miss such a legend? Was on Carson 80 times, countless LPs etc. Never too late. Happy Birthday, Marilyn.

The indomitable Marilyn Maye gives her all 100% of the time. I'll see her this weekend here in NYC at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. She's a National Treasure and the last of great night club entertainers. Long May She Live (she'll be celebrating her 90th birthday on April 10th, 2018 at 54 Below).
