Loved their reaction to Corpse Bride, it's my favorite stop motion film and the story is so perfect! Can't wait to see how they like my favorite zombie film!!
I don't like it when people who've seen a film talk too much to the other person reacting....like in this film the one who had already seen it mentioned "if she stands up and there's a hole we can see through, I'm going to lose it". I'm like. Please don't, you're ruining the reaction. 😧
"Once again " as in the anchor is announcing the situation. She's meaning "let me repeat" "Zombies are attacking, once again [for those just tuning in] zombies are attacking "
Pegg co-wrote a UK TV comedy series with Jessica Stevenson called ‘Spaced’. She plays Yvonne who appears at 7:07. It was directed by Edgar Wright and one episode where Peggs character starts hallucinating after playing Resident Evil 2 was the inspiration for ‘Shaun of the Dead”.
It's too accurate a depiction of how we'd react to a zombie apocalypse, especially during a hangover, it's why after the 11/11 bus bombings everyone was back on buses an hour later
I love that Diane survives, even though you don't see it! She used David's leg as a weapon when she realised that he was dead and then scaled a tree to avoid the mob. She passed out in the tree and woke up to see that the Winchester had burnt down. Being cautious, she stays in the tree and eats David's leg for a few days, then comes down to discover that the place was quarantined and that things are returning to normal. She then moved to Birmingham to live with her Aunt and keeps in touch with Liz and Shaun via postcards.
In this instance, when the newsreader said, "once again", she was just reiterating the headline of "The recently deceased are returning to life and attacking the living". It doesn't mean that it had happened previously.
The blood on the floor slip in the bodega just KILLS me every time. I remember when I first saw this on DVD, I repeatedly slow played that bit, trying to catch all the deliciousness of how well that was done.
David is played by Dylan Moran who is a stand up comedian and starred in his own tv series 'Black Books' with another comedian Bill Bailey. Absolutely hilarious show! Definitely worth checking out 😀
He was also in line to do the voices of The Beatles in the canceled Yellow Submarine remake. If you want to see what that might have been like, do a search for his name and The Beatles to see some of his very good impressions.
the ending with ed is sad and kind of fucked-up, but you could also read it as a "happy" ending for ed and shaun because ed gets to play video games forever, and shaun keeps his video games buddy without being held back by ed's mind-boggling stupidity. like you could argue that ed wouldn't be too sad about being a zombie in this scenario because aside from the fact that he probably can't drink alcohol anymore, he can still do what he loves (play video games and hang out with shaun). i mean i feel WAY worse for the zombies they have working retail and on game shows tbh, cos if ed and philip are anything to go by, these zombies do retain some semblance of their personality and have noticeable likes and dislikes. and i doubt most of them would have enjoyed pushing carts around or running after chunks of meat while people laugh at them.
yeah, the zombies are definitely not evil just primal creatures with faint sparks of humanity, it was really heartwarming that Shaun kept ed around, I'm sure ed is happy in some form too❤
this movie has great rewatch value- like the pub crawl ed describes at the beginning (bloody mary in the morning, bite at the kings head, couple at the little princess, stagger back here, back to the bar for shots) is just how the rest of the movie goes (the first zombie’s name tag says mary, philip gets bitten, picking up liz david and di, pretending to be zombies, shootout at the winchester)
Just so u know a cornetto ice cream is a hangover cure in England maybe other places, also the getting-over Liz monologue is a hint to what happens in the rest of the movie. Diana lives, she soon released CPR wouldn't help daffs, so fought her way climbed a tree and fell unconscious waking up to see the pub and area a mess, a couple of days later getting help, she moves away and the country to the USA but keeps in touch with postcards. ( DVD had this extra)
When the director was a teenager, he personally felt better after deciding to have a cornetto while hungover, so apparently he had a thing for a while about repeating that. Nobody else in England, or on Earth, has ever considered a cornetto to be a hangover cure.
The tone shift you bring up is thematically appropriate for the movie. Shaun starts as someone who doesn't take life seriously at all and that's reflected with the lighthearted tone of the movie in the first half. But as the movie progresses, Shaun becomes more and more focused and takes life and its consequences seriously.
Notice what the bitten room mate says when the fat friend annoys him at the start 'Go live in a shed' :) Well he may not be 'living' but he ends up in a shed.
11:03...Guys the lack of awareness is a fairly typical thing rooted in our dislike of engaging on even the most basic level with strangers. Many years ago I worked in a garden centre and one morning opened up and spent half an hour wandering around without noticing there'd been a break-in and the thieves had peeled back a 6ft section of the shop's roof. What can I say, we Brits just aren't very observant 😳

The commentator meant "once again" as in "if you are just tuning in". She means "once again" as she is repeating the story for anyone who has just turned on to their station. She isn't saying that it has happened before. They will repeat the same story multiple times in order to reach as many people as possible. Also I can say with a reasonable amount of certainty that this is exactly what would happen should a zombie outbreak occur here in Britain. People struggling to leave the city as many people don't own a car, instead using public transport, no guns, and so much sarcasm. In all honesty sarcasm would probably be our first weapon to deal with the situation! And of course, people flocking to the local pub! If you're going to have to beat your own mum to death with a cricket bat before she bites you, you're going to need some liquid courage!
The more you watch of Simon Pegg's films like this, the more you'll see familiar faces from the others... He's like the UK, Adam Sandler in that way! She's cute as a damn button, with a sharp personality and a megawatt smile. Kudos to the lucky bastard out there who won that lottery lol
I love the performance of David (Dylan Moran) in this, mainly because if you know him from literally anything else, including real life, it's completely playing against type. I don't think you could get further away from his actual personality and yet its totally believeble. It's very underrated and understated but I'd argue its one of the best performances in the entire film.
After seeing Stuber I like buddy comedies a bit, so I'm intrigued 🙂. This movie is always a win, it's not over done nor downplayed it's got the right amount of humor, good drama to give it some filling, and great tension because it's realistic in a sense that you'd be scared but still a little goofy in the outbreak setting. 😂 Making light to avoid being completely scared is what a lot do. You have your watch set, but I'll still recommend some: Night of the living dead 1965 #Alive (Netflix) And The Haunting in Connecticut

16:47 “Once again” for those who are just tuning in....
Good review. I’m English, and you got more or less got the slang right.
You have your watch set, but I'll still recommend some: Night of the living dead 1965
#Alive (Netflix)
And The Haunting in Connecticut
I'm not British but tbh I think it makes sense not to say C if it's a Z... I mean it's a Z not a C, right?
Also: looking forward to Hot Fuzz!!! :)
Can't wait to see your reactions to Hot Fuzz and The World's End.
I love the Cornetto Trilogy!
Don’t forget, this movie was way before The Walking Dead
If you live in a major city i.e. London, nothing about glass, breaking people running or liquids on the ground is even remotely strange
Happy Halloween 🎃 🧟♂️
14:25...Guys you're questioning too much of what is, don't forget, a COMEDY! Come on, lighten up...😉😊
