In one of those issues from the Star Brigade story arc (GI Joe ARAH #146-148), there was an interesting interaction between Roadblock of the Joe team & Red Star of the Oktober Guard after the Joes had been paired up with Oktober Guard members in space. Roadblock asked Red Star why he looked exactly like Oktober Guard's former leader, Colonel Brekhov, who had died, along with almost the entire original Oktober Guard team, 4 and a half years prior in GI Joe Special Missions #26 in 1989. Red Star never told Roadblock, nor has Larry Hama ever explained why Red Star looked exactly like Colonel Brekhov. May not be interesting to most, but i have wondered the answer.
The Oktober guard members who apparently died in special missions 26 are alive again in the comics, they explained it.
I wasn't really into GI Joe at this point but I remember seeing these guys in the store and just shaking my head wondering what they were doing to GI Joe
These Star Brigade figures remind me of that part in the god awful RoboCop remake where you see that Murphy basically has his head stuck on to a bigger bulkier body!!. Love your channel by the way.
@@mattleuty5285 Thanks!
I have vague memories of Star Brigade in the toy aisles when I was a kid. I still was collecting toys, but I was out of GI Joe at that point and subsets like this are what cemented it.
Garbage. 1990 was the last good year.
There were still some good figures between 1991 and 1994.
In space no one can hear you....Rock n’ Roll.
The SS Lou Reed...that was hilarious...
OMG!! The MST gag is priceless!! AWESOME!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I’m guessing those price stickers are someone’s aftermarket prices, not a retailer.
The MST3K stuff was spot on hilarious!
Again also, 15:30, What the heck
The head sculpt is nice. Shows some signs of aging with the lines on his face. Makes rock n roll more of a veteran consistent with the file card.
I feel you on this one, the Star Brigade Armor Tech figures are the broccoli of the ARAH line, just have to get through them. Great review never the less
I think the Star Brigade Armour Tech guys look stupid, but Rock n Rolls head sculpt is cool and his Armour Tech uniform and helmet look really good
5:28 Huh. Armor Bot is pretty much a Titan with a Power Claw and a Gatling Blaster lol. Too bad it didn't have a trumpet sound effect to Praise the Emperor for successful Engine kills.
Cool MST3K motif. Better than having that red light on the wall calling you Dave!
The mystery figure with the Star Bot may be Hawk, but the figure art is actually the Action Master version of Shockwave.
@@hankhill1203 One of the strangest goof in GI Joe and Transformers history.
Best opening ever.
In and of itself, the figure is pretty good. It is only by comparing it to the general run of G.I. Joe figures that it falls short. Just as a toy, the only real knock on it is the generic and inappropriate accessories. But, it WAS released as a G.I. Joe, so comparing it to the rest of that line is fair. And, as stated before, it falls short by that metric.
I'm requesting a profile review of the Tele-Viper Frank!
Gazz all televipers are named frank. Like CGs being named fred
@@russellharrell2747 didn't know that, thought Hoodie made a funny..😔
@@russellharrell2747 Let's be frank, there all Frank!!!
I have this figure and.....yeccchhh! Rock n Roll version 1 and 1.5 were my favorite figures of all time. I just wish they would've used him more in the animated series and comics.
Post credits scene for the wins!
HCC on the Satellite of Love!
Fantatic review, as always!
I gotta be honest...reviews on figures like these are what makes me usually laugh my ass off. I think he was being kinder because it is such a dear character like Rock N Roll, but the Robo Joe review was awesome. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I want to see a meltdown video soon again. I figured Gridiron was gonna get one, but it was fine either way. Maybe you should review Carcass next...
They should have made special backpacks and helmets for a space look. Like a upgrade kit or weapons carded space pack. Rock n roll should have gotten surfboard before space suit.
I have to say that he better than Deep Six that came with the shark
The armortech would have been a good first draft. It would've worked if the figure was an o ring that came with removable armor that could've encapsulated the figure.
HCC loved the figure so much that he had to buy two!!! Great video Hoodie.
What the hell were they thinking back then.
This phrase was used now and when I was a kid.
Love the MST3K reference! More please!
The head sculpt makes Rock N Roll look old. Maybe it’s better for a 70’s themed character named “Easy Listening.”
1980 Poe Dameron. You are just brutal.
Great opening; fanstasic video as always. It's hard to belive this figure is in the same toyline as the Green Thirteen.
Great review Hoodie Coco. Whoever owned the box of Joes I found for my son either had the sense to get rid of any of the Star Brigade figures or they didn't have any. Loved the MST3K reference.
I feel like the big bulky figures are pitched to a younger audience than the traditional Joes but might just be me.
To be fair, you could argue all the Joes' guns are laser rifles if you're going by the cartoon.
Hay man! I hope you’re feeling better this week.
I've been binging MST3K on Pluto TV (it's free!) so this review's opening was highly enjoyable. I was born in '88 and only got in GI Joe a few years later. Even as a kid I hated these Star Brigade figures.
I always thought the Star Brigade figures were based on Deep Six and Earth Corps of Inhumanoids
Chris Hemsworth would play as
Rock 'N Roll
The next G.I. Joe Movie
Also, Jason Voorhees used a machete in space ..just sayin'
So did Worf.
Hey HCC, AWESOME Mystery science theater 3000 into to your review! However with that said, I do think it's disappointing that the heavy-gunner doesn't come with a heavy machine gun!
They skated by that in the file card, by stating "In space, no weapon is heavy." He doesn't require a heavy weapon, since it is no longer heavy.
Nice review Hoodie! I have more to say about this figure but decided not to offend anyone who likes it.
I’d argue Rock & Roll actually got a demotion! I think he might be the only Joe to have this happen to. See his Super Sonic Fighters card. Bit of an oddity that. And while I’m sure it was a writing error, part of me wants to dream up canonical reasons for it.
15:30 was that a typo?
Another nice video. Star Brigade was on its way in when I was on my way out of Joe's, so I missed a lot of these. Given the look, I didn't really miss anything. Like HCC 788 the articulation was always a big plus for me with Joe's. I didn't care for it when they moved away from that with Ninja force. I could live with the loud colors but the loss of motion was a deal breaker for me.
On a side note I wonder if Exo-Squad from Playmates was more the competitive emphasis behind Star Brigade and Robo Joe's rather than Star Wars.
FYI, early Soviet Cosmonauts were equipped with Shotguns, so that's not totally out there.
bright yellow shotgun why not
Great review. LOVE the MST3K references.
"1980 Poe Dameron"?!
Yeah... that's a close comparison. 🤣🤣
Great review, but an upper layer Lower Tier figure. The colors and sculpt are good, but the MAJOR steps backwards on articulation and accessories... unforgivable.
Great review, I had this figure when it came out, I had the yellow version, loved the whole MST3000 style, hope you do all the star brigade reviews this way, loved seeing the scene from one of my favorite movie as a kid Explorers, it was great to see the 2 figures I sent you Ozone and Cobra BAAT, thanks for fun review, it brought back memories of watching MST3000.
Agree bottom tear
Awesome review Hoodie CoCo as always love it bro
Great video! The head is cool, but I dislike everything else about this figure... the purple accessories look alot better than the yellow ones... :)
Maybe they put the shot gun in cause some one was fan of doom and they couldn’t give rock n roll a chain saw ?
armor bot is so strange these days
This was one Star Brigade figure that I had as kid. I don't remember was one that I have version with purple accessories or version with yellow accessories.
Space Force!
Dirus we are finally going where joes have gone before
For some reason that intro looks familiar...
$15 in 1993 seems really high for an action figure. Seems more like a 2019 price! hehe
Mine came with purple
Oh my friend, Kenner 's batman, I had this toy. Great figure!
I’m compelled by the wave of negativity to champion this figure! He’s the best of a bunch with a bad rep!
As a kid growing up in the 90’s desperately wanting to bring the Iron Man-style of adventure to my Joes, these figures provided the perfect means to do so. I love me a Joe vehicle as much as the next guy, but these guys could maneuver through space under their own power (of course they had jet boots!) so no need for any kind of smaller vehicles.
I coveted this figure for having two useable arms and excellent colours and helmet. But alas, my buddy Rob owned him so I was stuck making Robo-JOE my protagonist. Which admittedly was a fair trade off as that character had a lot of potential to my 10 year old mind.
Playing GI Joe in space was the perfect crossroad of all the things we loved and while playing with the green team in the garden is always gonna be on top, some of our most atmospheric games took place after dark as we rooted out BAAT’s in abandoned space stations.
I also don't mind Joes in space, although most of the Star Brigade figures having weird design choices are the problem for me.
I was a decade late for the Centurions and they weren’t my scale bro! Joe followed the fashionable trends of the time for good or ill but for hardcore Joe fans like me all I wanted was to have adventures like the Centurions or Turtles or Star Wars but do it with my favourite toyline. That is the unappreciated silver lining of the subteam era at the tail end of ARAH.
@@kaylemathewcomendador7614 Payload, Countdown, Astro-Viper, Star-Viper are cool. This is too far.
They just don't make rock n roll like they used to
thanks for the chuckle :)
Another great review HCC! Now you need to do a full music video Rock N' Roll's version of Rick Astley never gonna give you up! You can't just tease us with that little sample!
I kind of like that head sculpt. It has an imperfection (mole?) and gives him a weathered look. Like he's been a warrior for many years.
Loved the MST 3K references!
It's Rock n Rolls head but nothing else goes with his personally or have any good pose him.
Black, gray, dark green or brown would have been the best colors to use for weapons. Why must they use purple and yellow? GI JOE was GI JOKE in the 90s. But still a good review HCC👍🏾
I have this 1 and 3 others still in pack not crazy about them but there in there pack for cheep
Those price stickers may have been put on years later by a reseller. $15 new seems ridiculous.
Review sign had me lmao. Have you done a review on the Star Brigade Armor Bot? There aren't many videos of them.
Nice Mystery Science theater reference. Are you a fan?
Great video as usual, HCC. The MST3K stuff made it even more fun as that is something else I am a fan of.
And where did GI Joe get the name for its shuttle, Hasbro staff? You didn't just pull "Defiant" out of thin air.
Because it was defiant to the Military aesthetic they had at the time
Why not? It's a cool name with a certain patriotic vibe.
It was an attempt at humor, implying Hasbro "stole" the name from Star Trek. 🙂
Love the mst3k and Star Trek references. Anther great video keep the good work .
Love his reviews but if it's not olive drab and tan it sucks mentality has to go. It's like all of the Joe fans forgot what it was like to be a kid and imagine playing in any scenario.
Where's the movie
I like it more if it has the same articulation as the standard Joe and the proportions were more balanced, the torso is to long and thighs are a little short.
Great review horrifying figure
The Armor Tech figures all look terrible.
Very cool review of G.I. Joe Star Bridgade Rock N Roll, not so good a action figure but still a great review of it.
Looks like a Megatron wannabe with a blond human hed
Great review HCC, nice tough with the Mystery Science Theater parody. Kinda hoping for you to do the format again for other Star Brigade figures.
Although I like the design of the figure, I'm not a fan of the limited articulation compared to other Joe figures. Which is what I usually think of when it comes to the Armor-tech figures. While I don't mind the idea of Joes in space, I'm not a fan of the weird to garish designs that were usually used for the figures in Star Brigade.
And did you refer to Bespin Luke as Poe as a joke or on accident?
Good review, but this is where GI Joe gets real lame for me. I didn’t even see these figures when I was a kid, I started skateboarding and missed this era. Iam glad I did miss this stuff. Your review was great as usual, just can’t stand these figures. The lost the GI Joe feel. You know what I mean! Anyway that’s my 2 cents.
oh look it's Deep Six in space. What was Hasbro thinking. Quite possibly the worst figure concept ever for GI Joe.
Drive high and get a DUI hahaha Can you pick your ads?
I really like this figure. His helmet is especially cool.
Oh yes he always makes sure that his helmet is nice and shiny!!
I'm surprised. You usually have good taste.
Armour grade Rock and Roll... Nope. Looks like Play School.
Great review of an awful figure!
Had this one and hated it think I ended up using it as a air rifle target
Yuck
Not sure why you buy and review figures you hate.
