There's all this negativity on Ninja Viper but I think he's cool he's obviously an interesting repaint of the awesome Storm Shadow V1 too. How many people would sneeze at a Ninja Viper if he came their way free or cheap...in short He's Cool ☝️

The ability to stealthily enter a place, remain hidden or unseen for a certain length of time, quickly strike from the shadows without mercy and then leave just as quickly is a fascinating skill set, HOWEVER, that concept was mostly lost on Hollywood and the movie going public at large in the 80s and 90s who just wanted exciting martial arts movies. Why the garish and dumb colors...an appeal to kids who want action and fun and not the actual reason ninjas existed at all, assignation.
I’m going far off the video’s subject here. Night Creeper was one of my favorite figures as a kid. I never owned one, but my cousin did. The one or two times a year I visited him in Arizona (Christmas and/or Summer time) I would always be sure I chose the figure while choosing teams when Alex and I played GI Joes. I now have a figure of my own as an adult. My cousin Alex passed away a few years ago and I found collecting the toys we played with the most as kids kinda fills a void. I know, blah blah blah.
It would have been awesome to have Storm Shadow, Ninja Viper, Ninja Ku and Satan as a kid. I would have started collecting G.I.Joe as an adult but with all the figures, vehicles, bases and battle stations including international figures..... That's a small fortune. Great figure and vid dude.
Night Creepers, despite being ninja mercenaries that would work for Cobra, were NOT to be trusted. In the DIC cartoon, I remember when the Night Creeper leader tried to betray the rest of Cobra in one episode (the episode known as "The Sword") and he would have the rest of the Night Creepers on his side. Even in the comics, their allegiance wasn't 100% to Cobra since if Cobra were to ever stop paying them, they could have a problem on their hands. That's why Cobra would want their OWN ninjas who are 100% loyal (just in case the Night Creepers ever decided to end their business partnership with Cobra in a violent way). Also, Cobra Ninja Vipers are GREEN ninjas and I think there is a strong reason for that. In Sega's first Shinobi game from the late 80's, GREEN ninjas are considered extremely dangerous (especially when in groups. The green ninjas during the Shinobi bonus rounds were INSANELY deadly and even in the normal game later on, they became a serious deadly problem during some stages), so someone at Hasbro probably was familiar with that game and decided to make the cobra ninjas green ninjas since they were associated with extremely top tier deadly ninjas at the time.
I always wished I had the money to troop build Joe and Cobra forces. Also I wish so much of my collection that had some troops, vehicles, and bases and such from every year of the original line hadn't been stolen from my storage building at some point around ten years ago.
The teal color looks like a match for the Water Moccasins boat--- --so Swamp Ninja Viper. He could have been worse; Imagine Orange with a white belt. Beware the Creamsicle Ninja Viper!

I wanted one so bad but for some reason never sent off for one, I ended up getting one in 2000 for 5$ in the baggie and it came with no weapons or a file card so I think it came from the great Canada mail order warehouse find of the time. I live the colors so much I army built the 2003? Or 2004? New sculpt version and bought a few of the 25th styles. Idk I frikin love that teal. Great video as always
This would have been better if the figure was in traditional cobra trooper colors. Like black on cobra blue, with a red or silver cobra symbol and accent colors. Then give him a pistol or SMG with a suppressor, a sword, backpack and small hand crossbow like Scarlett's.

I actually had this guy. Got him sent with the older version of Iceberg. Holy crap did it take forever and a day. It took so long that 8 year old me actually forgot about the order by the time it showed. I honestly used these guys in the same way the red ninja were used... As like a group of Cobra Ninja, but with Storm Shadow as their leader.
I loved my Ninja Viper and was very excited to get him. I never had a Storm Shadow until Ninja Force and didn't know he was a repaint. Lot of great memories with the Ninja Viper. We used to pretend he was the brother of my sister's Jinx figure. Siblings on opposite sides fighting against one another! I'm pretty sure mine had 2 blades. I also always gave him a brown hooded cloak from a Luke Skywalker RotJ figure to make him look more mysterious and badass XD
Awesome video! Newly subscribed and loving the great content. I got this figure and remember waiting seemed like forever for it to arrive. Mine didn't come with swords and spent it's life as a replacement for my broken storm shadow.
I'm gonna be honest here I don't mind the blue on this guy. It's no where near as good nor iconic as the white on storm shadow but it's fine to me I mean it could've been worse it could've been pink would've been awful.
I wasn't collecting new figs by the time this was offered and didn't even know about it until I started down the nostalgia trail last decade. I actually like it because of it's simplicity. No action gimmick like in Ninja Force. The color is ok. It matches Bushido.

This color, teal, became popularized by General Motors, specifically the Chevrolet Camaro, in 1991. It seems like one out five Camaros I saw in 91 and 92 were that teal color, people loved it. I don't think I ever even heard of the color teal until the first time I saw one in a dealership showroom. Very 90s!
I wish I still had my gi joes the only one I have left is ace the pilot in green flight suit and his pilot helmet he's in good to great condition still
When I first saw it, I called it Surgical Scrub Storm Shadow. Maybe if the white paint apps and the tabi boots were brown it would look a little better.
I have to agree, I don't get why people army build this guy. I didn't even know this guy existed until I started collecting for my kids and I was big into Joe's in the early 90s. I bought my last retail Joe in 1993. The only reason I can think as to why he was a Viper and not a reissue Storm Shadow is maybe he overlapped the retail release of Ninja Force Storm Shadow and they didn't want internal competition .
there was cartoon episode that staerted out with three cobra recruits and the dreadnoks were showing them how to use their weapons and storm shadow showed them how to take a tank apart with just there hands and feet and they went with storm shadow could that be the precursor to the ninja viper?
I think it was meant to be a troop builder but was too late in the line and hasbro knew the joes were heading for the closeout bin and transformers gen2 was going to replace them but they messed that up I have little faith in hasbro in the 90s and more now but most of it is due to takara holding their hands but the Joe line needs more than a movie it needs to be produced by smarter people than they have now. plus it no weapons is a rip off and hasbro should have reissued snake eyes V2 at some point instead of 3.

As Gaijin Goombah likes to say real ninja wore dark blue. After all that's color of night sky. Then again based on that file card people on Hasbro didn't understand what real historical ninja were because seems to me like they thought that ninja is some one who is really good at martial arts. Granted that shouldn't be surprising since pop culture has never shown historically accurate ninja and that's were most people in west know ninja from.

I understand that even now there's a lot of BS that non martial artists think about martial arts, but "10 level black belts in jujitsu, karate AND kung fu"? WOW. Aside from the fact that kung fu is Chinese and doesn't use the Japanese kyu/dan belt system, those "ninjas"(note that ninjitsu wasn't listed as one of the martial arts!) would be in their eighties be that time!
Its impossible to be 10th Dan in one style no less three. You'd have to wait a corresponding number of years for whatever degree you're going for (2 years for 2nd Dan, 3 years for 3rd Dan,etc)for Judo you also need to accumulate tournament points as well.
I ain't in no Gang dont cha flip a sign at me , its not real gang were a cos play group we pretend we're GIJoes and Ninjas please don't beat us up! When you see us or please don't put us in jail or weapons aren't real . We Recently had some guys hurt Thanks guys and remember Knowing is half the battle !.Go Joe!

I think it would be cool for army building and could be StormShadow ninja viper legion. One StormShadow figure with 10 ninja vipers behind him.
Which makes it all the more weird a choice for a mail away. Troopers should never have been mail away, the weird mercenary types should have been.

Either Tomarts or Lee's magazines offered that figure in a package deal with a subscription some years ago. Also offered the international 4 pack.

Compared to the neon nightmare colors on the majority of the Joe figures around this time, Ninja Viper here is rather tame, colorwise.

Did Gi Joe ever issue a ninja in a regular fucking black suit? Seems pretty straight forward there, no need to re invent the wheel.

The blueish color does make sense, cobra does wear blue colors and cobra does like to be seen
