    I love how the "Grand Master Mooch" is able to nonchalantly grab bottles without Daniel even flinching and accepting it as a norm now. Epic Rex you have now leveled up into Mooch Saint status, a monument and history books will now sing your praise forever.

      haha, i was wondering if he would say anything when i started grabbing bottles. nope. a dangerous precedent has been set. game on... now i just need to learn how he organizes everything, because its pretty hard to find things in the wall-o-whiskey.

    The Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel Sherry was the first whiskey that made me stand and take notice. I know you guys aren't REALLY into sherry cask scotches, but considering as how its in the vault (according to PayPal) would you considering running a review on it? I'm a bartender professionally and often considered whiskeys to be my weakest area of expertise. Discovering this channel a few weeks ago was such a tremendous boon to my work (not to mention a pleasure to watch). Thanks again for the content Dan and Rex.

    Hey fellas, I’m a big fan and I really liked your recent review of the Rebecca Creek. Personally one of my favorites even though I am only 21 and fairly new to the world of whiskey. Your channel has taught me so much and has made me truly fascinated. I was also happy to know that the flavors I got out of some of the whiskeys I’ve tried before I saw your review were validated after the fact. I would like to know your opinion of the Herman Marshall whiskeys. I’m from the DFW area of Texas and they are a Dallas distillery. They are available in Austin and I personally think they make quality products. Obviously there’s no rush to this review but I will keep watching in anticipation to see some Herman Marshall bottles featured. Thanks and best wishes to you.

    Big fan guys! I have a request for you guys to do a Blind Tasting...what you do with it I'll leave up to you...whether you do a Blind tasting to see if you can name what Whiskey's you are drinking or a Blind Testing of like 16 different Whiskey's that you put in a bracket and by smell/taste alone, you decide the winners....only until the end of it all do you find out which Whiskey is which. ... or some other idea...I just want to see how you guys handle it and what surprises might come from doing a Blind Tasting.

      PreppinShootinLivin I think that's a great idea. Could be a Som vs. Mooch showdown. 4 whiskeys, 5 glasses. They have to taste each one and name the whiskey they are drinking. 1 point for each one right. If they tie, they can have a sudden death drink off round. Maybe for their next livestream.
      (Yes, 4 in 5 glasses. On is a double to throw them off.)

    Fell in love with this channel. Whiskey I have purchased since I've watched this channel
    Hibiki, Four Roses, Glenfiddich 12, Famous Grouse, Angel's Envy, Macallan 12. - My wallet is empty, but 100% worth.
    I don't think I have seen them review Famous Grouse.

    I've been searching for Glendronach for ages and can't find it in any store here in Colorado. I just decided Aberlour A'bunadh is going to have to do, but I got the impression from your review of the A'bunadh that it's not so great. Should I just order a Glendronach online and suffer the shipping cost?

    So, I am a bourbon rookie. I have bought some half bottles of maker's mark (ok); maker's 46 (much better); hudson baby bourbon (can't decide); koval bourbon (really different with 49% millet-but at $50 bucks-tad high) but I really liked Wyoming bourbon. One review said it is a wheated bourbon, but I did not see it that way. I just finished two half bottles I had and I will get another bottle. I drank it neat and on the rocks. Liked it both ways. You all are my new favorites on you tube. Thanks for the review. I would lke to see you all try Koval bourbon some day.

    Hey guys, I just happened to come from the liquore store with a Bottle of Wyoming Whiskey this evening. Never tried it before just thought I should try it since I spent the first 20 years of my life growing up there. I got the small batch bourbon bottled 7/7/16 batch #32. That is a little classy for a dirt kicker from Wyoming that now lives in Montana. I wonder if I should be holding my little finger out from the glass when I sip it?
    Anyway, as I was tasting my first dram (see I can be sofisticated too) I thought of you guys and found this video of you Reviewing this fine whiskey. I really am supprised, it is a really damn good whiskey. However, I do not agree with your eucalyptus appraisal. I smell heavy brown sugar and a hint of vanilla and maybe some honey. The taste is a bit complicated for this hick so I won't even go there, but I will say I really like it. I am no connoisseur of bourbon and am just beginning to love a good bottle but I have been a great fan of Irish whiskey and scotch for many years.
    As luck would have it, I just finished a bottle of Bullet 95 Rye whiskey and as I thought it was not bad, I think the Wyoming Whiskey is much better. Love your show and watch it when ever I can, you guys are great, and crazy and...anyway, keep it up!
    Ya know, there is getting to be to many people in Montana, I still miss Wyoming.

    Heya Daniel and Rex,
    I found you guys with the video you did on Pewdiepie and have binge watched all your videos.
    I just recently started drinking whiskey seriously.(Have been drinking whiskey for a while but mostly cheap blends mixed with cola)
    Now i see you guys sometimes add water to the whiskey and was wondering why and when you should do this.
    Cheers for the awesome content!
    Greetings from the Netherlands

    • @FightStealDrink
      @FightStealDrink 7 років тому +3

      thanks for watching! a few drops of water can sometimes have a dramatic effect on a whiskey. the water reacts with the oils and can enhance (or bury) some of the flavors. this doesn't happen in every whiskey, but enough for us to experiment and see what happens. just do it if you're curious about what could change in the whiskey (if anything) 👍

    Hey guys I was wondering if you could talk about how long Whisky last once it's opened and either kept in the bottle, or put in a decanter? I've heard some people say it will stay "fresh" up to a year and I've heard other people say that Whisky never goes bad? But surely it loses some of its taste after being exposed to air and left sitting on a shelf for some time?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому

      If you drink a bottle in less than 3 months, you have nothing to worry about. A mostly full bottle will will last you years. half full at least a year. less than 1/4 and you have a few months before the evaporation becomes a problem.

    Hey...I found your channel two days ago and I already love it. Unfortunately, I dont have the time to go through all your videos right now. Is there any chance you could do a review on the canadian club classic 12 year old? It is one of my favourite blends right now to enjoy after a full day of work. Furthermore, I think it's not that common...at least where I live. I think there is alot going on in that particular blend...it has some taste to it unlike a Jameson (for example) where you just smell alcohol (in my opinion). I am still a beginner when it comes to whisk(e)y so please dont judge me for any false information I'll probably post.

  • @PwnageEngage
    @PwnageEngage 7 років тому +2

    I noticed you guys don't let the whiskey sit for very long before drinking. Ralfy is a strong supporter of "a year in the glass for a year in the cask". What's your opinion on letting the whiskey sit to allow it to develop?

    • @FightStealDrink
      @FightStealDrink 7 років тому +2

      yes, it would make a marginal difference. for example, adding a few drops of water usually has a much more obvious effect that letting the whiskey sit. but if you let it sit for too long, a lot of alcohol begins to evaporate which really messes with the flavor. ralfy isn't waiting too long though. during our show - we're prioritizing time, fun, and watchability over the perfect tasting technique. the right answer? drink it the way you like to drink it. 👍

    Hey guys, quick question. I just started watching your videos a few weeks ago. I just turned 21 and bought my first bottle of Monkey Shoulder. After pouring a glass (in my extremely fancy Glencairn glasses---Amazon/$16) I had a lot of trouble finding specific aromas like you guys do. I couldn't pick out the caramel and vanilla and spice and all of the other descriptives you named. Is this something that just comes with experience or is there something I'm missing?Thanks and I love what you guys do! Keep it up!

    • @FightStealDrink
      @FightStealDrink 7 років тому +2

      Experience, plain and simple. At first, the alcohol punch hides any nuance. After you acclimate, your start to pick up "hints" of specific flavors. When you start, it'll be pretty broad - like Sweet or Bitter or Smoky. With practice, you'll start finding those nuanced flavors that remind you of something else (more specific) you've tasted. It's all pretty subjective too, so there's not a wrong or right flavor that you're tasting. Cheers!

    love your guys channel. I was wondering if you could suggest a good heavily smoked or peaty whiskey that can stand up well to a cigar as someone that loves to smoke when they drink. As a result most whiskeys fall flat and I was just wondering if you could make a good suggestion.

    Hey guys, you have it the other way around about mezcal and tequila. Tequila is a kind of mezcal produced from one specific agave (blue agave) and named after the town is made in (Tequila, Jalisco). And I agree, mezcal can be close to complexity and variety to scotch. Different tastes for different regions and all...

    I want to add to other comments about the Wyoming Whiskey Outryder. It is so great. Also, you can order from a store in Jackson the single barrel version of the bourbon, either cask strength or not, and it is also amazing. The store is called "The Liquor Store" (true story). I have friends who still insist that bourbon has to be from Kentucky, and after I pull this out they are in complete denial, like it's illegal or something...

    I've always been curious. I don't drink whiskey at all (I know, why am I here)
    But I must ask, where DO the notes of things like rose, eucalyptus, pecan etc.
    I understand where things like leather, candy, vanilla, or caramel come from. But where do things that you won't find from the aging come from?

    Hey Guys, been catching up on your videos, falling down the whiskey rabbit hole (cherry-picking and watching about 50 so far and counting) and wanted to recommend a couple of small batch Bourbons I kind of fell into by accident. I would consider both of these whiskeys in more of a Beginner category, but was curious what you thought of them (should you get your hands on a bottle).
    One is Watershed Bourbon from Columbus, Ohio and the other is Cooperstown Beanball Bourbon from Upstate New York. Curious what your thoughts are.

    I know that I'm a fan of bourbon's. In fact in the past few months I've worked my way through 4 different brands and enjoyed each of them. I'm wanting to explore my way through some scotch now....
    What scotch would be a good transition from bourbon?
    I've enjoyed some Glenfiddich 12 however, I'm looking for a more robust flavor. I am admittedly equally afraid and tempted by the Isley whiskeys. Is this a good direction to start?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thank you "gentleman" for the great videos.

    Hey guys, so I love your videos so much you have made me fall in love with Whiskey even though I dont like the taste of it. haha
    So I bought my first bottle of scotch cus I really want to get to like it. I went to my local purveyor of fine brews, and not wanting to spend a ton right away but wanting a fighting chance at liking it I got a $23 bottle of single malt scotch. McClelland's Islay Single Malt. I got this one because I thought I recognized the name from your videos but cant find anything about on the channel now. I was just wondering if you have or will review it? The thing about hard liqours is I love most of the flavors, I love the smoke the peat the caramel but I hate the alcohol taste. But I felt the same way about wine and beer when I first started tasting them and I love them now so I will press on lol. Thanks for any response you send my way.

    • @WhiskeyVault

      McClelland is a decent budget blend! The last time I checked, their Islay is 3yr old Bowmore. Good stuff!

    Also for the coffee smell thing, I think it could potentially do something because it's so abrupt and different that it could shock your nose, but not maybe not necessarily reset it. And when you say "Your own scent" I just imagined people smelling their own farts...especially at some of those events.
    Also speaking of that.. what is Daniel doing at train wine-tastings and perfume smelling parties?

    Hey guys, have you ever tried some really nice Mezcal? I hear you talk about smoke in whiskey all the time, and my roommate's sister brought a bottle of traditional (very expensive) Mezcal back home from Mexico, and when I smelled it/tasted it it was the essence of BBQ smoke in a liquor. I have never had anything quite as close to true BBQ smoke in a bottle as that. It would go great at a pig roast!
    Edit: Wow... I literally paused before the Tequila/Mezcal statement... The second I pressed play you said you love Mezcal...
    I'll leave this here as a reminder of my bad luck.

    So, before Whisky, one of my hobbies was making cheesecakes. Specifically cheesecakes. I’ve made flavors such as dulce de leche with brandy toffee apples on top, fresh raspberry lemonade marscapone cheesecake, and a Chardonnay-sautéed Pear and with chocolate ganache cheesecake just to name a few.
    Now I’m going to try combining my two hobbies and make a whisky flavor cheesecake to see if it works. I’m thinking of the flavor profiles - maybe some honey, maybe some *biscuit*, maybe some apple, but it will require a touch of whisky - what would you guys recommend that wouldn’t be too overwhelming? Would you eat a peated cheesecake?

    • @Coniff

      I'd start with a speyside if you're talking scotch. There was that one French Whiskey these guys reviewed that apparently was extremely sweet, might try and find that. (It was an early episode but I don't recall which one)

    There are two types of tequila.
    A regular tequila is the drink whose production involves combining agave juice with other sugars such as brown sugar or cane sugar. ... In this sense and just to clarify the difference, a 100% agave Tequila is one that does not combine sugars different from those of the juice extracted from the agave.

  • @the-chillian

    Daniel, I think you misunderstood that research. it's not that each person's own odor will reset their sense of smell, it's YOUR odor, personally. You're going to have to rent yourself out to wine tastings and such so everyone can snort you between samples.

    Tried Rye for the first time. Bulleit. Apples, a little bit of sulfur, and I'll believe you about the eucalyptus but have no comparison... so I guess that slightly green, slightly unlike anything else I've tasted is that. I don't really need to justify this as "I like this for a Rye" it's just plain good. I'd drink this over Basil Hayden's (technically a heavy Rye bourbon) any day
    Thanks for swearing by it, probably wouldn't have started with it otherwise.

  • @diegocrawford9213

    Tequila
    It is important to recognize that in order to be called "Tequila", the agave liquor must contain at least 51% pure agave juice, in addition to being produced within the space specified in the appellation of origin. In case of containing a lower percentage, the resulting drink would be another such as mezcal, brandy or sotol. So, a regular tequila is the drink whose production involves combining agave juice with other sugars such as brown sugar or cane sugar.

    Another big difference between mezcal and tequila is that tequila is often aged in barrels, while mezcal in most cases is not. Mezcal could be compared to moonshine, mezcal had always been considered in Mexico as a low quality and brusque drink, bottom shelf product, it was until about 20 years ago that it became fashionable and the production of this drink soared.
