NEW SERIES ALERT!!! HOW MUCH ________________ ! Stay tuned for more and thank you so much for watching! We sincerely hope you enjoyed this week in my hair's life!
I spend more time on wash day than I realize I'm sure, it take an hr just to blow dry it on wash day, and I do all the steps in the shower you teach on top of that, this is why I hate my hair I'm as low maintenance as it gets and I'm almost ashamed to say by day 2 I have to put it up in something because it tangles so easy & as a mom of 2 I don't have alot of time to spend on it everyday, I can't brush it or really even touch it or it just becomes frizzy and the fallout by day 7 (or longer depending on how much time I have throughout the week) is awful It's to dry to wash more than once a wk... I pretty much feel like I have to straighten it on wash day if I wanna have nice looking manageable hair til wash day. if you have any tips I am all ears...because some days I'm tempted to shave it all off!
I love the curly tips, mostly the curl in the cold series, but cuz my hair is so much coerced than your my time tends to double. The good thing is that you use many product that can be bought in Canada Btw props for the tracking you hair handling, ❤️❤️😂❤️🔥
Would love to see how your sister’s week is different! As a wavy-curly with low porosity hair, I can stretch it to a once a week wash if I’m mostly at home, but if I have to make it look nice I have to wash by day 3 :(
Me too! But tbh as long as your hair is healthy washing on day 3, it doesn't matter what anyone else does! My hair loves doing this and it looks and feels so healthy! (then again this is just my hair idk what your hair is like)
@@elianaaliprantis2916 My hair is healthy (I think 😅) but having to wash twice a week is an extra hour+ of styling or waiting to air dry that I don’t want to do 🥲
Thank you for starting and continuing this channel. It's changed my hair life, my sister's, my Mom's, my friends, my daughter's (she doesn't care as much, buuuut). You're making curly hairs everywhere happy every day.
Just wanted to stop in and say Thank you! ♥️ I am 32 years old and have NEVER, not even for 1 day, worn my hair down curly. Since the 5th grade I have been straightening my hair almost every single day. No one ever taught me how to take care of my curly hair so I just tried to hide it. I came across one of your videos while scrolling through UA-cam and decided since I didn’t have anything else to do that I would to spend my afternoon trying your tips. 1 week later and I have not only, not straightened my hair, but I have worn it down curly every single day!!! I am now in love with my curls and watching all of your videos to learn more :) Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
The curly shame is real. I too just started going curly in 2014. Still learning and not super confident not bc of curls but bc im naturally so fine i look bald once my hair curls. Trying to still fig this out but am excited bc my hair is getting better. If i wasnt depressed itd be way better but i have no support n come from a culture that calls curly hair, broken hair. Im excited 4 u n thank u 4 ur comment it makes me feel just a tad less alone knowing that there are ppl out there with similar habits n likes just maybe Im in a wrong location or i could just suck n be really a miserable person. I hope not the latter lol sending you spirit hugs from a curly sister 🤗
@@randomness8819 you’re definitely not alone ❤️ My hair is also fine but I have a decent amount of it. I’ve noticed recently that my hair is even more fine than it was a few years ago and I’m wondering if all the years of straightening has caused it. Maybe Mel’s volume video would help cover the thinner spots? They also make a spray that you can put on the roots to cover up thinner spots and that may help you. My hair has never grown past my shoulders from all the breakage so I’m hoping I will be able to have much healthier hair by putting down the hair straightener. Curly hair is beautiful and I’ve always thought that…I just never thought it was beautiful on me. It’s very depressing being a women and not loving your hair so I can definitely relate to you. Sending you love and patience on your natural hair journey 😊
You tell it girl! It may seem like curly hair is a full time job, but it really isnt. The first day takes me the longest because I want it to last as long as possible which helps me to spend less time during the week. Watching you girls has saved me more time and boosted my self esteem. I have been able to realize the beauty of my curls that I always knew were there but never knew how to take care of. The seesters have saved me countless hours of tears and frustration. Wish you were around 20 years ago in high-school. Keep doing you!
ur the reason i define my curls and dont brush it out, ive always been insecure of how tight my curls are and i always used to wish i had straight hair but when i saw ur channel i was like wow we have the same curl type and shes rocking them and now my hair has never been healthier thank u so much mell! 💕😭
I've spent 30+ years straightening, blow drying, and flat ironing my hair twice a week took me about 2 hours per week to keep it straight. Now that I am learning how to do finger curls I spent 40 min once a week. I keep it in a pineapple to sleep and only have to touch it up in between washings. I am loving the curly girl method since it is much easier and less damaging plus I no longer have to worry about my hair getting messed up because of rain or humidity. Thank you for this channel, it has truly changed things for me!!
It's amazing what you can do to make your hair last. I had been trying to go for long periods of time between washes but my scalp just couldn't take it. I actually started to have significant scalp pain. Love your videos. Thanks for all of the great advice! 😘
OMG girl same. All I kept thinking while watching this video was, if this was me! Literally by day four my scalp would be screaming at me. It’s also because my hair is short. When my hair is longer and longer, I can go longer without washes. But yeah I can only go four days
For those with thicker 3c hair, I preepoo 30 min, washing would be another 30 min, plus deep conditioning (can go from 10 to 30 min) depending on the treatment. Defining my hair is a good 40 min to an hr. (Fair to say I do have some color damage in my ends, but still). I wash my hair every 5/6 days. I use Argan oil in my hair every other day before I go to sleep. But I love wash day, while it is time consuming I feel it’s quite relaxing. Love your show.
Honestly you have to be careful with the clarifying shampoos, as they can strip too much of the natural oils on your hair. So use something with rosemary oil or peppermint, or apple cider vinegar, even though they don’t say “clarifying” the components are to detox your hair. Always a good option to go for the Shea Moisture line (JBCO) with apple cider vinegar, the shampoo from mielle green line, and if you are in the USA Not your mothers black or green line shampoo. Yes, I go for the most cost effective products 😅. Good luck
Hello! I feel silly asking this but do you do all of that in the shower? Or do you add those products and then shower? I’m having a tough time with routine logistics because my apartment hot water heater is super tiny and is only good for about ten min in the shower lol. Any advice you can give would be super appreciated!
So what I found work best for me, I preepoo outside, shampoo and condition in the shower, and depending on the instructions I do my deep condition (DC) in or out of the shower. So if it is let say 5-10 min DC, the I just wait and rinse it out, and then shower. If the DC requires more than that, I will put it on, put a plastic cap, shower and get out and rinse it out when advise, out of the shower. I don’t go in the shower again, I do it in the bath sink cuz, no body got time for that. 😂 So the last thing is don’t let the DC be the last thing in your body. In my case, I don’t like the residue of the DC in the body, it leaves my skin itchy. Besides it’s not meant for the body. I hope this helps you
THIS VIDEO IS SO HELPFUL! This whole time I've been wondering why my hair is so tangled on wash day when I spend exactly 0 minutes during the week on my hair lol Thanks Mell for being our Hair Guru! ❤️
Love this video! If the smell of your hair is an issue post workout or sweat, I love the not your mothers mint scalp and hair refresh mist. It’s helped me so much with this!!
Loved the video!! Those weekly type of videos always relieve my stress and it's great to have someone out there that has beautiful hair while also low-maintaince! Keep going girl!!
I have 3a hair that I used to straighten every day for over 10 years because all I knew was frizz. It was such a hassle because there was no easy way to sleep without having to redo it nearly every day. Had to wear braids just to get a break. Nowadays it's just one pretty extensive "wash" day a week but daily upkeep is easy. I spend way less time doing my hair overall than when I straightened AND I don't fear humidity or steam anymore. Totally bought some combs to sleep in for that root lift! Thanks for the tips!
I love Aveda. It's the only high end brand that I invest in. Never dissapoints. I spend way less time on my hair now that I no longer straighten my hair. I too only wash my hair about once per week. When I used to straighten, I had to wash my hair almost every day cause my scalp produced way more oils than it does now.
You hit the nail on the head Jennifer, the more you fight the curls, the more time you're wasting! I'm so glad you found a routine that works for you, Aveda's always done the trick for me
I feel like this video it’s about the time you spend in the operation part of the job, what about all the office work/time we spend worrying about our hair or choosing the right products, buying the right products, watching a 26min video that is teaching us how to take care of our hair and a lot more things! I definitely agree curly hair it’s a FULL TIME JOB! Love you girls
Love this series idea!! And we appreciate the dedication, especially when you filmed the night after the wedding I just kept thinking I'd hit the pillow before filming 😆
Love the video Mel! I like the realistic view of what you actually do with you hair each week :) My questions is, if you have a looser hair pattern and workout almost daily, what can you do to elongate the time between washes? My hair does not do great with refreshing, my hair pattern loosens as the day goes on, whatever curls I refresh will look totally different that the rest of my hair. I don't need it to look perfect or uniform, but it looks like a mess after refreshing, so it's up in a bun day 2 and/or day 3. It's been trial and error for over a year now, but it's more error haha!
I have the same problem. My curl pattern is much like Mell’s, but thinner strands and about half the density. It’s very difficult to get it to look good on Day 3 as my hair doesn’t take well to refreshing. Adding more product on refresh day makes my hair look and feel awful. So I usually end up only going 3 days, 4 at the max, between washes. Which sucks because it takes so much time to style.
Mine is the same! I do workouts 5 times a week and it's so hard to keep it contained without killing the curl pattern, especially since my hair is a bit longer. Then it ends up in a bun until the next wash day. 😔 Anything you have found that works best!?
Same here. I sustained the "long curly hair routine" for about 2 years but I just can't deal with it anymore. So I use less products, not even gel so my hair dries WAY faster. (it used to take about up to 6 hours depending on the weather) I will still do it occasionally but it is no longer a requirement in my mind haha
@@holisticmaya same, and I even stop fully finger coily (since I don't need to anymore) I only finger coil some of my hair. And because my hair dries fast I started doing it from the shower, and I detangle my hair really well in the shower which removes half of the job.
I have to say because of (and thanks to) you Mel, I may spend about 2-3 hours on my hair on the weekend, I literally spend less than 5 minutes on it throughout the week. Take the silk off, fluff MAYBE add some oil but otherwise no time. I'm in love. I straightened my hair one weekend for a wedding and due to humidity I Co washed and wore it curly after day 2 because it was too much work in comparison 😂😂😂 can't believe I used to do that every day.
It takes me roughly 2 hours per wash day and I have to wash twice a week, so that's 4 hours for me. But! I managed to not touch up because I listen to your priceless tips! Thank you for saving my time.
50% of my week is spent on my hair , would love to see more drugstore brand reviews like garnier fructis , suave, ogx, ecostyler gel , Loreal….. would be real nice to see an in depth review if a drugstore brand under 9.99 and that hopefully around 5.99 you guys recomend twist but is hard to get for me i have to oder it online and it can be pricey since each product is 10$ two products =20$
Where do you live? I ordered some Cantu products from iherb (which were reviewed last summerby Mell), it was good for the price you pay and volume if product is great too. I'm using it for two month, and it probably will be enough for 10 more.
@@lyanagonzalez5599 sorry, for me revealing part of the world looked safe))) I wrote that because delivery for most of the products Mell reviewing to Europe costs usually around 30$ per product, so products that cost less than that, usually doesn't even have delivery options available. I get you now, sorry for disturbing)
Dw that’s what I figured I live in a comonwealth of the US so i can get some us products but not all commonwealths are weird cuz ur a territory if said place but don’t have the full perks of say being a state
Mell has reviewed quite a few drugstore products. The thing is that she only reviews products made for curly hair. Those brands you mentioned weren't created for curly hair.
Your hair is so beautiful. Even though we don't have the same hair type, I really enjoy your scientific approach and knowledge base. I have very wavy fine hair mixed with some curls. It seems like no matter what products I use and no matter how much, my hair is weighed down a lot and my waves and curls largely disappear. I've watched a lot of your videos and can't seem to find anything that works for me.
Same. I've found that using a more clarifying shampoo on washdays combined with a moisturizing conditioner helps and using very minimal products also. I use the Aveda Nutriplenish leave-in spray Mell uses here and a gel. That's it. I don't use a hair oil on the first day because I feel it just softens my waves/curls too much. If it feels too dry the next day, then I add oil! Also, you'll probably have to refresh your curls with a water spray bottle and some gel much more often than Mell does. If I do all this, I can make it to a week without washing! But I also put my hair up a lot, so...
That comment is spot 👏🏼 on 👏🏼. I have literally been rocking some form of cornrow/braided style for 2 weeks because I know I just don't have time to do the most right now.
I so need your help. I just cannot find my routine and am getting discouraged.!! I love your videos, I just cannot find my groove for my wavy "mixed" hair. ...thank you for being here for us crazy lovely curly wavy people.
“I just spent 30 seconds flipping off the hair scarf.” Took me a few to realize you meant taking off the scarf, but making a particular hand gesture. 😂
I loved this video so much. You gave me a boost of motivation to spend more time on my hair and give it more tlc between washes. Please make more videos like this !! And I need to try that Aveda line. Looks boom.❤
This is a great video. I feel like for my thin hair I have to use water everyday - everything else weighs it down. Any advise? Also, what much eye patches are you wearing? Thanks Mell!
Hi Mel I wash my hair once a week, but I have a very dry/eczema prone scalp and dry/course hair (2c/3a). I'm disabled (so I'm not really exercising) and as I live in Scotland it's only warm for a small portion of the year. I use clips, satin scrunchies, scarves and other hair accessories to keep refreshing to a minimum, but I do apply a bit of mist and oil some days if it's a bit dry looking on the ends. I have a t bar of high lift tint highlights to blend in the white threads I'm naturally producing at 50, but I'm a medium blonde base colour naturally. My scalp can get a little dry during the week, so I apply a hydrating scalp serum overnight when I need it. I think those with finer hair or an oilier scalp may struggle to wash once a week only, but it works fine for me. Best wishes.
I really liked this video, I'd love if this became an ongoing series. Mell, I have a question. I'm going to a waterpark next week and this will be the first time swimming since going curly. In as much detail as you can spare, please let me know if I need to wash my hair every night after swimming? And if yes are we talking regular shampoo or clarifying? Should I coat my hair in a little oil every time before getting in? And if I missed anything else, please let me know! Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you for creating and sharing all this knowledge with the world, after discovering your channel, I have learned how to properly care for my hair. I am happy to have the head for hair that I do now after disliking it for so many years, please continue to test products and share with us!
Thank you for teaching me so much about how to take care of my curls, they are in need of some TLC tonight for sure 😅 You are always giving me helpful ways to keep the curls going all week!
I never knew I was curly/wavy so I grew up thinking my hair was straight. And I promise I used to spend more time on my hair than I do now. And I don't have great curls like you do so I feel like I need more refreshing. AND, even when I don't do my curls (which means it lays straight once dry), since my hair is 100% healthier than it's ever been so it always looks better now than when I had "straight" hair!
I have the unique perspective to directly compare. I was born with stick straight hair, it wouldn’t even hold a curl from an iron or roller, just straight as can be. But all of a sudden, assumingely due to health issues, my hair suddenly went curly a couple of years ago! So now I’m like a mix of 2 and 3 tighter waves with ringlets. My curl type is a hair looser than Amanda’s. And very fine and thin, I’m a low porosity unicorn you speak of. Completely untreated, not exposed to the elements. So by contrast I definitely spend more time now that it’s curly as far as styling obviously, but it completely changed my texture. Like before I couldn’t have gone more than a day and my hair would look greasy without washing, now I wash 1-2 x a week and not greasy at all. It was crazy to learn everything, the grass is always greener and I was always so jealous of curly girls growing up, then find that most didn’t like theirs as kids, it’s been crazy. But I understand the work that goes into it now, and while I miss sometimes just brushing it out of the shower, ponytail or bun done, it also took a lot of work to make it look decent. So in the end, it probably wasn’t much different in time if comparing actual styling. I wouldn’t trade curls for anything and I pray they never disappear like they came. I’d still love to understand what happened though! Now one thing that’s majorly different, I spend way more on products now and have to work harder to select the right products! Before with straight it was literally just shampoo!
@Medicated Mastermind I’ve heard it can happen during puberty and such but I was about 30, so nothing like that! No hormonal changes either. I’m in poor health, so that’s my best guess! I’d love to know the cause, but I just hope it never goes away.
And here I’m thinking of washing my hair (it’s been a week and 1 day) but I don’t find myself motivated to do it (as always). I wanted to go with a simple wash day to not take that much time but after watching this, I really don’t think I take that much time so LETS GOOO 😂 Thank you! As always, I love your videos and appreciate the hard work you and your sister put on this channel! ❤️
Great video. When I started with a routine, thanks to you Mell 😊. Yes it took me a while. But now I do it in no time. Like a pro lol. And I am loving my hair all over again. Took me years. But thanks to you my hair is growing beautiful.
I've got to try timing my hair week. One thing I do now that takes time is brush my hair every other night. I get my hair oil out and brush each curl and then with a bit of hair oil on my fingers I give each curl a little love and re-twist it. Put it in the bonnet and looks great the next day with no refresh/no water. A lot of curly girls will say never dry brush but as a CG who has fine dry hair but lots of it I need to get my hair untangled every couple of days. Fairy knots and curl loss from dryness is taken care of. The one thing I still miss from my straightening days is the feeling of brushing my hair. I love that feeling of being fresh and neat that brushing gives. I thought maybe my curls would be brushed out but despite all the manipulation they spring back and with the light oil application they moisturize themselves inside my bonnet overnight. Try it, I didn't believe it but it works for curly, wavy, fine and dry.
@@BatN1ppl3s I'm afraid to see if my cut is botched too. I'm waiting a couple days to wash and style so that I can have a more level head to choose my products better.
@@Dorkella_ I'm hoping for the best for you. I had to wear a ponytail for months. The initial cut was great, it was shoulder length (with curls, longer if wet or straightened) I told her I struggle with volume around my crown so she started cutting short pieces but then had to blend the longer pieces to the ones she cut and before I knew it my shortest piece was eyebrow length. It was devastating. And I have fickle 2C curls, so when my hair isn't long enough the curl doesn't form properly. So I basically lost all the progress I had made the 1.5 years I had been curly. If it is botched, take some deep breaths, remember it's temporary and it will grow back and come back here so we can bitch together until you feel better lol
@@BatN1ppl3s it started with having a different stylist than usual because my stylist (who doesn't style my hair the way I like, but it's not terrible) got covid. My hair was struggling a little bit because I hadn't washed in a few days, and I had put perhaps a little too much protein in it to combat an afternoon in a salt water pool and a chlorine hot tub (without protection). My roots were pretty stretched out because I pretty much permanently wear my hair up. I too am somewhere in the 2b-3a range when styled curly. Anyway, it seems like she used way too much moisture, weighing my hair down, and then only used gel to style my hair. It looks very similar to how my hair looked before I started my curly journey over a year ago; mostly straight with some slight waves, barely 2a. I paid over $140 CAD to be worse off than when I arrived.
Ok wavy 2b/2c girl, balayaged on natural blonde, medium porosity with some UV damage and halo frizz. My routine is as follows: day 1: dry detangle half and plait it, do same on other half, apply a couple of pumps of cleansing oil to scalp and massage in to dissolve build up from dry shampoo if necessary. Jump in shower, take hair ties out, get hair wet. Use a mix of a squirt of clarifying shampoo with a gentler shampoo, massage in and use scalp rubbing tool. Then rinse, apply toning conditioner mask for 5 mins while doing other shower things like bodywash, shaving, face wash etc. Get hair wet again and detangle, add hair food for extra slip if necessary, squish to condish with head tipped to side, add in cantu curl activator same way, plop in several microfibre turbans then air dry or apply heat protectant and diffuse. I use a silk pillowcase. Hair looks great until day 3 where I may dry detangle and have it in braids for a bit to settle frizz from brushing. On day 4 I add in some dry shampoo, by day 5 or 6 it is time for a wash. Once or twice per month I do an olaplex and deep conditioning treatment. Time per week on my hair is probably 3 hours as it is long and dense.
I use to spend hours straightening, and because my roots got more oily that way, I had to do my wash day every other day and re-dry and restraighten. It took up more time, I find that I am spending wayyyy less time on my hair now. And it is nice to be able to push wash days up to a week! OMG THE END HAHAHAHAH
I wash once or twice a week and only do a wet refresh if there’s a social event. I work in a hospital and have to wear my hair pulled back, so now that I feel like I’ve figured out what works best for my hair, I have majorly simplified things since I’m no longer experimenting I’m just living! Since I stopped fussing over it so much it looks even better…
Happy texture Tuesday, thanks for another great one seestas! 💗😁. You guys have made me come to appreciate each and every Tuesday's a little bit more lol 😅.
I just got a perm and would love to see a tutorial on how to care for straight to curly permed hair :) I feel like I’m afraid to treat it like natural curls because they don’t naturally bounce back like someone with natural curly hair so I I get nervous about combing it and using products properly. I’d appreciate any tips
Can you explain/do a video on the differences between hair gels, jelly’s, custards…and so forth. They are all so confusing. And why I can’t ever seem to get a hard cast?? I love your videos and everything is so helpful:)
Love you babe - you are da bomb! And that took a lot of work to take us thru a whole week. Hugely helpful. Most helpful i have seen to date (and i have seen alot)!
Love your videos! They’ve really helped me with styling my curly hair! Could you do a video on Aveda’s botanical repair line or ivanti line? 🙏 I would love to see some different Aveda products since they’re my favorite brand!
I would say this is pretty accurate, depending on the type of wash day I'm having... I personally like to sit under the dryer or steamer when I DC, so my full wash day is closer to 2 hrs
Mel, I have very fine, loose curls (2a-3a) and spend almost a full style time on my hair every day to get it to bounce back. Spritzing (which takes forever to get it wet enough) then re-scrunching which often requires additional product, then diffusing. Any tips on how to shorten this time but still get good results?
Great video! I have thick coarse hair amd can maybe stretch 3 days before its so dry and frizzy. Any tips to Extend wash days? Im in the fifty club and love ur hairstyles but feel like maybe they might be too young for me? Secondly, will using an oil overnight make me greasy the next day?! Thanks for the curly wisdom all the years! You both are amazing!! 💕
I’m 54 and am getting more grey hairs now that are super dry, all my hair is course and thick. I can use an oil (serum) on my hair either at night or in the morning and within a few hours you can’t even tell I put it on. Doesn’t look or feel oily at all anymore. I have s thyroid issue that has made my hair not as thick as it used to be but with Mells tips it’s way healthier than it was 5 years ago when I was first diagnosed.
🔬 okay I might need to try that satin wrap technique. Maybe then my hair will last 😅 I don’t have naturally straight hair but when I did straighten it all the time I spent no time on my hair 💅 wash one day of the week and maybe if I needed it redo some parts. imo definitely easier than wavy/curly hair
Love this vid Mell thank you for posting! This gives me hope for my routine + transitioning hair. For the day 1, did you end up brush styling your whole hair? I dont know if I missed but I noticed you scrunched after so I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to do that after brush styling
So grateful for these videos and I absolutely love how close you and your sister are-my sister and I are super close too, and I had to laugh when you were on FaceTime because we do that kind of stuff all the time :) Anyway, not sure if you’ll see this but I have a hair routine logistics issue-my hot water heater is really only good for a 10 min shower-how would you go about your wash routine with such limited time? Any advice would be appreciated!!
You asked for a straight hair timeline? I have fine, flat, 2A hair that's naturally very porous, so poker straight in the dry winter, a nd frizzy and shapeless in the summer. I tried the Curly Girl method for a free years to see if there were any more curls hiding in there. There are not. However, curly methods are great for helping manage my porosity and frizz, so my routine is a custom mashup. I co-wash 2-3 times a week with a natural conditioner. I don't use any silicones (they do nothing for me), so this is plenty. 10 mins. Products (DIY flax gel all over and Andalou gel on the temple roots where I have a bad wave), 3 mins. Blow dry underlayer for volume, 15 mins. Air dry top layer, cast reduces frizz from my commute. Fight with my hair throughout the day as I live in SW Ontario and it is stupid humid here. Easily 30 mins a day, maybe more, in the summer. It collapses and tries to do the Bad Wave. (My natural wave is not flattering. Heads should not appear hourglass shaped.) The flax gel really helps, though. Brush out at night. 1 min. Roll the dice in the AM. With the flax gel, I can occasionally brush and go now, which is awesome. Love. 5 mins. Or, or could be a flat, misshapen mess and I'll need to wet down and re-blowdry. 20-30 mins each time. So, probably comparable time wise. You just did yours all at once, and got much better hair for longer. Mine is completely random. But I'll keep watching, and maybe steal more secrets and good hair days for myself.
This is a really interesting and useful video! To clarify though, "vegan silk" is polyester, right? Thank you for sharing your routine in such detail, I found it interesting and informative, and a good reminder of the various ways we can protect our hair.
Honestly, when I used to wear my hair straight it'd take longer to manage than it took you accross the span of a week. Because I wasn't moisturing it enough, it'd take me 30 minutes at night each night just to detangle it. I'd need to wash it about 3 times as often, so that takes time too. Unless you have perfectly straight hair (that's thick too because thin hair needs washing super often), I think most people are spending a decent chunk of time on their hair.
My hair is naturally blonde, thick, and wavy, so of course I destroyed it and wore it bleached and straight for a decade which took 45 minutes a day to shower, dry, and straighten. When I stopped bleaching it and using no heat appliances whatsoever it was 30 minutes a day just to comb it, and up to four or five HOURS for it to get dry enough to comb. Now, thanks to your videos, I'm using curly hair products and a diffuser to dry and it's 5 minutes every day to shake and style it, with 1.5 hours on wash day. I'll still lighten it a few levels sometimes to switch things up, but I had no idea I'd ever be able to have hair that didn't need several hours to make it look good.
I don't know how Mell does that, I spent a minimum of 3 hours on my wash day, plus the refreshing it may be 4 hours per week. I wonder how much time does Amanda spent on it, since she has longer hair...
Watching this video knowing full well I have to wash my extremely fine hair every day (I’ve tried to go every other day and my hair can’t handle it), do the scrunching upside down method whether using conditioner or leave in and in the morning wetting my hair and putting mousse on it, scrunching it and heading out the door. I have 2c/3a hair 🤣🤣
I'm glad I'm not the only one that spends a half hour in the shower 😂 my family always gets mad at me because it takes me forever to wash, condition, and detangle my hair
One of my biggest time commitments with my hair is definitely wash day. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones who have to wash twice-ish a week. Balancing a teaching job that has its own time commitments is challenging to say the least lol. Ill definitely try some of these times saving tips though because I definitely felt that one comment!
I've been on my curly hair journey for 10 years and I feel like it's a full time job. That's why I live in a bun/pony. I can't get second day hair. I can count the number of good hair days I've had in that time on 1 hand. 🥴🙄 I can't refresh, wet or dry. 🤷🏻♀️ I have a weak curl pattern. Easily disputed. On a great day I have juicy spirals. 99% it's stringy loose waves. My hair would never survive all the handling your hair does. I love your hair
I love, enjoy and learn a lot in your channel. In today's episode your uper hair part is not with volume, or maybe I am wrong or maybe you like it so. For me it is a problem because I cannot keep mine volumized tough it is short, short waves. Have you some advice about? Thanks And also thanks for answering questions curly hair women have. After watching your answers I feel self asured that what I was doing was the right way. Hugs
9 days!! Your hair is AMAZING!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Mel, I ENJOY washing my hair … so after 3 days…even if it isn’t dirty, I wash it. Is that bad? Should I let it get dirty and wait til I see product buildup or flakes?
HI Kellz! Thank you beautiful! I understand the relief of a wash day, and there is relatively no harm with washing your hair as often as you need to (for most people). If you naturally have very dry hair and/or colour treated hair, it's not recommended to wash as often (if you can help it)! But ways around that are protecting your hair with pre-poo treatments like you see me do at the end of this video
I used to have a very complicated routine and honestly never did my hair I just put it up in a bun or ponytail with a braid because I don’t want to take the time and watching your videos have taught me less is more and what proper techniques and correct products I needed to get the results I wanted
NEW SERIES ALERT!!! HOW MUCH ________________ ! Stay tuned for more and thank you so much for watching! We sincerely hope you enjoyed this week in my hair's life!
oo this is like a reality show of the real life of curly hair! loooove x
The good thing is that you use many product that can be bought in Canada
Btw props for the tracking you hair handling, ❤️❤️😂❤️🔥
@@nascimentomoreira9668 i guess you speak Portuguese?
Such a great video Mell! I just feel for my curly hair I have to use water every morning thin dry hair SOS
(then again this is just my hair idk what your hair is like)
@@elianaaliprantis2916 My hair is healthy (I think 😅) but having to wash twice a week is an extra hour+ of styling or waiting to air dry that I don’t want to do 🥲
We're on about the same wash schedule and , every 5-6 days and she's just as low maintenance as me

Thank you for starting and continuing this channel. It's changed my hair life, my sister's, my Mom's, my friends, my daughter's (she doesn't care as much, buuuut). You're making curly hairs everywhere happy every day.

Just wanted to stop in and say Thank you! ♥️
I am 32 years old and have NEVER, not even for 1 day, worn my hair down curly. I am now in love with my curls and watching all of your videos to learn more :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Yes girl! Welcome to the seesterhood! 💕
@@itskindyl thank you :)
@@randomness8819 you’re definitely not alone ❤️
My hair is also fine but I have a decent amount of it.
YES YOU ARE OUT HERE CHANGING LIVES! we all appreciate you and your sees thank you for all you do to educate us 💕
I appreciate YOU! Thank you
When mel was saying "oh no, this is what I was afraid of", i was so confused at first because her hair looked wonderful.🤣

Would love to see a "how much" conditioner you use per wash 😂 Every curly knows, the conditioner to shampoo ratio is NOT 1:1
For those with thicker 3c hair, I preepoo 30 min, washing would be another 30 min, plus deep conditioning (can go from 10 to 30 min) depending on the treatment.
Can you recommend a clarifying shampoo for thin 3a hair?
Honestly you have to be careful with the clarifying shampoos, as they can strip too much of the natural oils on your hair. So use something with rosemary oil or peppermint, or apple cider vinegar, even though they don’t say “clarifying” the components are to detox your hair.
Always a good option to go for the Shea Moisture line (JBCO) with apple cider vinegar, the shampoo from mielle green line, and if you are in the USA Not your mothers black or green line shampoo.
Yes, I go for the most cost effective products 😅. Good luck
@@nicolemiranda9231 thank you that was helpful I’ll look in to those!
So the last thing is don’t let the DC be the last thing in your body. In my case, I don’t like the residue of the DC in the body, it leaves my skin itchy. Besides it’s not meant for the body.
I hope this helps you
OH MY FREAKING GOSH! Thank you so much for this. I have been rewetting and difussing my hair every single morning. You have taught me so much!

that makes me SO happy to hear!! I love that you find this advice helpful for permed curls as well. I appreciate you!!

I agree, curly hair is a full time job!!🥲 but the love for the curls is worth it 💕 I enjoyed your video Mell😍🤍
Mel you have amazed me with pushing your hair that long. I’m working on mine and I’ve barely made it to five days. You are so helpful.
Thanks for this video, can you please share a video on how to prevent hair from getting tangled. Thanks again
Happy Texture Tuesday!! Love the early videos!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
HI DEANNA! Surprise! Thank you so much for watching, have a fabulous Texture Tuesday xoxo
I used to think that curly hair was a full time job, until I simplified my routine.
AMEN
You are the best and changed my curly hair forever!!! 🙌🙌🙌
I love Aveda products. The leave in conditioner spray is amazing. 💖
It takes me roughly 2 hours per wash day and I have to wash twice a week, so that's 4 hours for me. But! I managed to not touch up because I listen to your priceless tips! Thank you for saving my time.
Would love a series with a wavy hair guest and some of your tips for wavy hair.
I have cantu acessible just want to know abt more options that are just as affordable ( also won’t say where i live online)
@@lyanagonzalez5599 sorry, for me revealing part of the world looked safe))) I wrote that because delivery for most of the products Mell reviewing to Europe costs usually around 30$ per product, so products that cost less than that, usually doesn't even have delivery options available.

Never clicked a notification so fast lol!! Absolutely love aveda products!!
Same here! By day 2, my waves have completely fallen out and I just have a scraggly mess.
Any advise?

@@ManesByMell yay amazing! Because I struggle mostly with parting and how much product so I think that’ll be a good video idea!
I will absolutely continue to be hair, thank you so much for watching im so honoured to have helped you on your healthy hair journey ♥️♥️
My hair wouldn't hold a curl either, and, when I went through puberty I guess, it changed 🤷🏻♀️ now i couldn't get it to stay straight 🤣
@Medicated Mastermind I’ve heard it can happen during puberty and such but I was about 30, so nothing like that! No hormonal changes either. I’m in poor health, so that’s my best guess! I’d love to know the cause, but I just hope it never goes away.
Yup! We need more of this series!!!!
Okay, loved this video series! And I would for the next episode to be about Amanda and how much time she spends on her hair.
I loved this video super excited for this series 🥳
This helped me feel a little better after my stylist botched my hair styling today at the curly hair salon I frequent.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, that happened to me last year. It's a tough experience, but it gets better ❤️
I haven’t tried any of those products yet…. Looks like I’m gonna have to go shopping again soon! Love your adorableness!
I love your videos so much 😭 ❤ you taught me how to look after my hair properly 🙏🥲
Always such good info. You and your Sees are my hair inspiration! Even though I am more of a wavy curly, all your tips and tricks work for me too!!
The video is great but can we just take a moment to admire the shape! It looks just absolutely perfect!
Love this concept! Definitely will try this on my own routine.
Awe thank you so much for saying that, I’m glad you liked it!! Xoxo
Love all your videos Mell. What do you think about keratin treatment to relax the curls not to get rid of them?
Mel, I have very fine, loose curls (2a-3a) and spend almost a full style time on my hair every day to get it to bounce back. Spritzing (which takes forever to get it wet enough) then re-scrunching which often requires additional product, then diffusing. Any tips on how to shorten this time but still get good results?
yay! happy texture tuesday 🫶🏽
HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY
Great video! I have thick coarse hair amd can maybe stretch 3 days before its so dry and frizzy. Any tips to
Extend wash days?
I love this! 😍 I always time myself, because I am always late when I wash my hair! 😂 and I try to cut time in every step
🔬 okay I might need to try that satin wrap technique. Maybe then my hair will last 😅
I don’t have naturally straight hair but when I did straighten it all the time I spent no time on my hair 💅 wash one day of the week and maybe if I needed it redo some parts. imo definitely easier than wavy/curly hair
Love this vid Mell thank you for posting! This gives me hope for my routine + transitioning hair. For the day 1, did you end up brush styling your whole hair? I dont know if I missed but I noticed you scrunched after so I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to do that after brush styling
This was great! So many amazing tips!! I’m struggling with the post-gym and summer humidity frizz 😵💫🕉💟
The outfits were really cute as well. ❤
I appreciate that haha thank you
So grateful for these videos and I absolutely love how close you and your sister are-my sister and I are super close too, and I had to laugh when you were on FaceTime because we do that kind of stuff all the time :) Anyway, not sure if you’ll see this but I have a hair routine logistics issue-my hot water heater is really only good for a 10 min shower-how would you go about your wash routine with such limited time?
Love it! TY so very much! 💇♀️🚿🧴What's your lipgloss? I love it as well! 💄
Katelyn, it sounds like you have a system that works for you and I love that for you!
I’ve just started on my curly hair journey so I’m trying to learn all I can!
I still have a lot of damaged hair, and I work out everyday, so I definitely spend way more time on my hair every week :')
I'm glad I'm not the only one that spends a half hour in the shower 😂 my family always gets mad at me because it takes me forever to wash, condition, and detangle my hair
Also love this series idea!!
Great video! ❤️
thanks val!! Stay tuned for the rest of the "HOW MUCH" series!!
between last week and this week’s video I swear you can see my UA-cam search history
I recommend using Uncle Funky’s Daughter Defunk for work out days. It refreshes your hair. It smells amazing it’s a hair tonic.
I love, enjoy and learn a lot in your channel. In today's episode your uper hair part is not with volume, or maybe I am wrong or maybe you like it so. For me it is a problem because I cannot keep mine volumized tough it is short, short waves. Have you some advice about? Thanks
And also thanks for answering questions curly hair women have.
