The 16th Note Triplet Scribble Scratch Challenge

- The weekend is here and for many of us DJs, the next 72 hours are looking pretty bleak. For the first time since 911, working DJs are dealing with cancelled gigs due to what now is a officially a pandemic. From the US to Europe, #coronavirus is forcing us DJs to miss out on work during our most active part of the week and self-quarantine. That leaves us with 2 choices. Sit in front of the TV and let the media further tip us into panic about losing work this weekend or make the best out of a sucky situation. Believe it or not, there's value in not being able to DJ out tonight or tomorrow night, We can DJ in and get better!
With that said, I invite my DJ brethren to take on my latest challenge which tests your ability to execute 16th note triplet scribble scratches while juggling both left and right turntables. You'll be testing your ability to accomplish this task with Run DMC's "Sucker MCs", specifically the first bar of the song (the drum roll). This is an advanced technique however and if you're not experienced at "beat juggling" mutltitasking on the turntables at this level will prove daunting. For those who do have experience, I say make use of your downtime and attempt this challenge. As easy as it looks in this video, It won't be long before you notice the bad habits you've formed with regards to your hand mechanics. But that's the point of all challenges, right? To expose our weaknesses, allowing us to turn them into strengths.
Have fun conquering this challenge.

good stuff Rob thanks
I gotta say.. I feel guilty not contributing or donating to you Rob. I'm sure there's a way. But I've learned mad, mad, mad much from you.
Crazy. The workload is insane.
Thank you Rob, i didn't realized about pionting my fingers down on the vinyl. Let's practice.
Most DJs don’t realize it so you’re not alone. Hopefully my tutorial helped with that.
This is simply BAD ASS! Great riff. . .
You're a legend, feel lucky to be getting schooled like this from you, respect and peace!
Thanks Bro! 💪🏿
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Let's go
@RobSwift: correct me if I'm wrong, but Iit seems easier to look at the record you're backspinning, while doing the scribbles, right?
damn rob you make it look so easy but its super hard because i have dyslexia and everything is backwards for me
djrakman Stay at it. This exercise might even help you with your dyslexia.
What it do Rob? Nice mixer
That’s the new Rane 70 bro.

...so scratching makes your biceps bigger... nobody told me that....🤦♂️
Hey, it sounds to me like you’re doing regular 16th notes in groupings of 3 rather than 16th triplets. Great lesson anyway!
Yo!!! You got the Rane 70??? Does your right hand hit the bottom two knobs any?
What is the first video to watch of yours to become a better scratch dj? I blend very well I struggle when it comes to adding scratching into my sets. Thx
What is your definition of weak and strong hand? I am righthanded and I mostly scratch with my left hand on the record so I consider left to be my strong hand.
Scratch-E Con To me, a DJs weekend had would be the hand that manipulated the fader. For the most part, a DJ can only move a record forward or backward. That’s a fairly easy task to accomplish on either left or right turntable. It’s the manipulation of the fader that dictates how sound of a scratcher you are. So if you could manipulate the fader with your right hand only, then you’re weak hand is your left or vice versa.
Hey Rob, How do you like the new Rane 70?
Trappin4Sport I love it man!!!
where is the S9? Lol
Packed away in a case.
Thats no fear sir! Lol…the S9 was a good servant ….nice video
