It’s amazing that even lower income families in Russia can have an actual place to live in that looks like it is in (by my standards) pretty decent condition and size (at least in the first part of your video). I understand that here (in the USA), homelessness is a result of many different factors such as inflation, joblessness, drugs, mental illness, etc. But, it is becoming harder to afford housing for the most economically challenged people - across the board. Blessings from Texas!

The most important thing causing homelessness in addition to drug use and mental illness is broken families. Lack of a stable home life is the main cause. Not having a parent, sibling, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparent, etc...who can take you in temporarily while you get on your feet financially is the main reason. Divorce, adultery, incarceration, and immature/irresponsible life choices and decisions.

    • @monicawest1009

While that's a very important factor, the situation here is that we have whole families struggling between heating costs, housing costs, and food costs - effects of inflation alone. Even for those that are working, there are "safe" parking lots that are popping up to offer an option for those working families living out of their cars to have a place to safely park their vehicle for the night. There are some hardworking individuals that are still not able to afford basic housing. Even if you have some family members to come along side, it is not a guarantee that they themselves are not on the brink. We are struggling with energy costs in our own home, for example, despite every effort to restrict our use to the basics to around $400. We have had to really go to extremes to stretch our income.@@swisschalet1658

@@swisschalet1658Add inflation and the high cost of living. High property taxes and high insurance people can't afford a place to live. End up in a car or tent or cheap motel room whole families and elderly on fixed incomes.

@@sharonproctor4079 Move to a less expensive place. There are "now hiring" signs all over the place. Get a roommate. There are unlimited ways to make life affordable. The right to shelter is in the Russian constitution. Here in the US, conservatives get triggered when homeless people are given shelter. As usual, conservatism is keeping the US from progressing.

This is not correct. It's great that you feel empathy for people but it is misguided I'm sorry to say.
In the US our homeless population is about 1 tenth of 1 percent of the total population. Half of them are in California and New York for obvious reasons. The government pays them a monthly paycheck to be homeless and many of them CHOOSE to be homeless.
Individual or personal wealth by the people in a country are rated using a metric called purchasing power. On the typical list of purchasing power per individual ranked by country, the US is listed at 9th. This list is slightly problematic but that's a good enough representation to make my point.
Russia is ranked 55th out of all countries.
Stop allowing the media to tell you what to think and do some research. The US is quite a rich country and that means even the MOST POOR people here have more than people in most countries.
In California, homeless people are paid more than $200 a month MORE than what Dan said the average Russian monthly salary is. That's how rich this country is and why much of the homeless population are there by choice.

I also find it interesting that almost every home is fenced in. We have a saying here, "Fences make good neighbors ". It looks like Russia has the same saying ☺️

    • @exohio
      @exohio 5 місяців тому +1

It wasn't always this way. They have fences now because in the late 80s and into the 90s, towards the end the Soviet Union and especially after, they were having BIG problems getting people jobs and things they needed, crime was so bad, houses would get robbed even in broad day light. So everyone started putting up fences to protect their homes. This happened all over Eastern Europe, not just Russia. Now days the crime isn't so bad anymore, it's normal, now it's just a 'common sense security measure' to put up the fence, and people use the fences more for privacy because their homes are so close together.

***The homeless situation in the US is horrible. Here in NYC, we are being overwhelmed because our city decided to become a “sanctuary city” without planning on what to do with the thousands of illegal people coming here to live. I always thought when Americans make fun of shanty towns in third world countries they should instead think that it's great those people have a roof over their heads, which otherwise wouldn't be there. America has all kinds of bureaucracy and laws and stuff that makes things like that impossible and it increases the amount of people without any housing whatsoever. You get high and mighty about how you don't have favelas and shanty towns, but then you have people living on the side of the road, like that is somehow better.
If you give people the liberty to, they will build their own housing, humble and poor as it might be, it'll be something, even in the poorest parts of rural Africa they build mud houses, but they have housing.

Yes, you're right. There would be less homeless people if there weren't 8 million laws preventing everyone from constucting even a tent or box house. Homeless people are screwed no matter what and low income people as well.
There are so many abandoned houses and no one can live in them bc they belong to the bank or have been deemed unsafe. They are livable. They are shelter. Sitting empty is not right. There are families who need, desperately, a place of shelter and safety.

There are a lot of abandoned houses in cities and towns all over the U.S. I doubt that the homeless would even want to live in them. They seem to choose to be in downtowns of large cities.

Toronto has the largest number of homeless people in Canada. 62% of homeless people in Canada are males. 30% of Canadian homeless come from Indigenous communities. 90% of homeless shelters in Canada are in Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and ( here) Alberta, and 44% of them are in Ontario alone.
And there are more every day, our rent went up $150.00 a month today($2,000.00 a month now for average roof over your head).
By the end of this year homeless will double or triple here in Canada…

Yes, the US has a lot of homeless people, and it is only getting worse especially with the migrants and illegals coming across our borders daily and we have no resources to help them much less help our own homeless population. It's a sad situation all around.

Like you, all I had seen of Russia was in the movies. I knew it wasn't accurate because I knew that movies about the USA were inaccurate Still, it was all I had seen. You have shown me the real Russia and I appreciate it very much. You have confirmed for me what I have always believed, which is that we are more alike than we are different. It's the governments that want us to believe that we are very different to keep us separated from one another. The oldest strategy in the world is to divide and conquer because a house divided against itself cannot stand. It is h0ow they keep control. My opinion, for what it's worth.

We have survived winters with only a wood stove, but...if it is 15 below, there is a strong, bitter wind as well. There is no point to having abandoned houses AND homeless people. Dan, you have such a huge heart. You have so much love and not enough place to give it to. To neutralize the road salt and prevent rust on your car, wipe down with baking soda OR white vinegar with a bit of water. The homelessness in our town, which is considered small at around 25k people, is so big. The police I think run them off and they end up cold by the lake to sleep. Many are drug users but not everyone does. Some come into the busy part of town with children to beg.

Regarding the English language, it makes little sense. We call many words sight words because they make no sense at all the way they are spelled; you just have to know the word by sight, not by the way it is spelled. There are web sites that you can type in an English word and there will be an audio recording of how it is pronounced. Have you two tried using one of those?
