Pam Anderson was basically the only person in this entire movie who was let in on the joke ahead of time, even her security didn’t know.
I think the old Jewish couple with the B&B might've been told after the first try just to make it funnier. Like they tried to do it unscripted and it was just a little too boring. Not that they were actors ahead of the filming,but the tour of the house and the meal scene was extra.
The jocks in the rv are also actors. Two of them were in the mindy project & happy endings
@@nicolelush6980 Kinda right, but kinda wrong. 2 of the 3 DID try and sue: Two fraternity brothers, Justin Seay and Christopher Rotunda, were shown in Borat getting drunk with Baron Cohen and making racist and derogatory remarks. After the film was released, they sued the producers for defamation, claiming that they had been told the movie would never premiere in the U.S. and that they’d been tricked into appearing. Their suit was later dismissed in 2007, and although they sought an injunction to keep the film from premiering in DVD, it was also denied.
They may have been "actors" (or, at the time, wanting to be) but they were ashamed and fearful of their futures, as they were not actors, but willing to Play Act, like the B&B couple. And they signed releases. Oops.
The guys became actual actors later, I believe, at least minorly.

The Jewish couple were never in on the joke. Sacha was actually very friendly and polite to them but never broke character.
They ended up seeing the film and they loved it.

I saw this in the theater. The naked wrestling scene ... everyone in the audience was laughing so hard people were in the aisles, people on the floor, it was an experience.
Me and my friend was literally on the floor laughing for a good 5 minutes after that one
Yes I saw this on thanksgiving and no thanksgiving has held up since. It’s become a holiday movie for me lol

The beauty of Sasha's films is the fact that these people ARE real people and genuine reactions 😭😂 he truly is master class when it comes to comedy. Will never stop loving this man hahaha
Many are genuine reactions. Rumor has it the frat guys on the road signed a release, then later regretted their roles, as they had been encouraged to "play up" to their parts (they sued and lost). Pamela Anderson knew about it. So, it's questionable morality on the part of the filmmakers, but damn funny.

They ARE real people and real reactions. Apparently only Pamela was in on it. The people are real and the cameras were explained away by his cover story when they were openly visible.
"Lunelle" the American hooker who became Borat's wife is an actress and knew beforehand. (She was the loud civilian hostage in the film 'The Rock') She and Pamela Anderson were the only two in on the gag. Everyone else either had no idea or were involved under false pretenses.

@@vaziralramin4565I’d maybe do a little bit of better research. Aside from Pam and the prostitute, all the interviews and interactions were real. It’s say it’s more like 10% is controlled for the story line…
The best part about this film is that Sacha Baron Cohen is Jewish and speaks Hebrew, so whenever Borat is speaking "Khazak" he's really speaking Hebrew.

Yes, I was there when it first came out. In my experience, I think only The Nutty Professor and maybe Scary Movie had more laugher from the audience than this one.

My favorite part is the driving instructor. I think that embodies the true spirit of an American, it sets the tone we all know it's basically like that here. Tolerant and compassionate but there is so much cognitave dissonance in this country where it flows from there creates so many extremes.

There where like 4 people on the screen who where in on the joke of the movie. Sasha, Pamala Anderson, the guy who plays Azimat, and the lady who plays the New Wife. Apart from that the people they filmed either didn't know it was happening, or thought it was a actual serious foreign documentary being filmed.
They ended up getting sued by a BUNCH of people who where on it. Y'all should watch the second one as well. It's just as funny as this one.

Omg, Borat? This film was shot without a scenario, and almost all people didn`t know that they were being filmed for this movie. After its release, the movie got a lot of lawsuits for it... You should watch the 2012 movie "The Dictator" with the same actor, very funny but not so wild and more professional.

Some of the situations were set up (like meeting the joke expert, the etiquette house, etc.), but none of the people were in on it, they were all told that it was a documentary. Many of them later sued for being deceived, especially the frat boys in the RV.

Me and my whole family (parents, sisters) got to see this movie in the theater together when it first came out. By the time we got the wrestling scene, we were all laughing so hard we could barely breathe. Such a delightfully heinous film!

A sequel was released a couple of years ago on Amazon Video. Definitely worth watching if you enjoyed this movie.
Gotta watch the next one, where he actually got Rudy Giuliani. Rudi got got very badly there, even though Sacha Baron Cohen decided to interrupt before Rudi went further.
Speaking of Isla Fisher - I fell in love with her character in the 2008 movie "Definitely, Maybe". Definitely worth watching.

You have to see Bruno next! I saw this in a mostly empty theatre. A few groups of teens were there and an old lady in the back. At the end of movie the teens were so embarrassed and shy they looked at the floor with heads down as they walked out. The old lady cackled throughout the move. Made me think when viewing the world. That "old lady" could easily been 18 years old at Woodstock.
I think we all know who Ash is going to be dressed as next Fancy Dress Party, or Halloween. 😂

As everyone said Pamela was in on it, but so was Luenell. She's a famous comedian. The scene with her in the etiquette house, they were the south. They promote southern hospitality, which originated during slavery. So they didn't kick them out because of her shirt, but instead her skin color. That is why they immediately kicked her out and called the cops. My hubs (also black) and I died laughing when we saw that, and wondered how many people WOULDN'T get why she was kicked out and why they were so offended lol

fun fact: the village is actually in romania. and people didnt know they are filmed. after the movie, some people interviewed villagers and villagers said if borat come here again, we will kill him. that was crazy.
I am not sure if SBC chose the country at random, figuring that few in the UK or USA would know what actual Kazakhs look like.
When Sasha was on Howard Stern a few years ago he said that the only people he told was the Jewish Air BnB owners. He said he wasn't going to tell them ahead of time but he felt bad when he met them so he told them. He said that they thought it was hilarious.
