Quite a timely reaction too since just last month news dropped that Sacha Baron Cohen is starting a new Ali G project. That's my favorite character of his even though the movie's so-so. I still laugh so much at his interviews with priests.. politicians.. the Beckhams.. they still hold up imo.
Fun fact, his village is a gipsy village in Romania and people got pretty angry after the translation was out because they couldn’t understand him beforehand
Sacha Baron Cohen is so incredibly talented, he doesn't just "stay in character" he becomes the character. It's a skill others in his profession could only wish for. His characters are so elaborate and over the top. They're designed in such a way to provoke an extreme reaction and/or response. It almost gives an open license for whoever he is around to speak exactly what is on their mind, due to ultra confident and expressive characters he plays. It's truly a gift. Borat/Sacha, received 20 wins & 34 nominations at various awards shows. In real life, he's a very funny, smart, caring, and articulate individual, with a pinch of his characters querks for good measure. Furthermore, if you can believe it after his performance in Borat, he's Jewish, as are both his parents. He rarely speaks in public out of character, however, when he does, it's usually quite memorable. Khazhakstan was annoyed with how Borat portrayed their country, however, when their tourism boomed, they decided to go along with it. Highly recommend any of his other films, as well as some interviews and speeches he's done (see below). Depressed this week. Feeling lonely. Just came back from the gym at midnight here and three this on. Your laugh is infectious dude. I saw this in the cinema when it came out and I've seen it 100 times since, but enjoyed it the most now tonight in a long time.
I saw this in the cinema and the naked hotel fight literally nearly killed me because I could not breath from laughing. Have never and will never laugh like that again!
One of the absolutely brilliant things about Borat was just how polite ordinary people are when confronted with absolute absurdity, the character came off so genuine everybody was more concerned with being welcoming and friendly than anything else. I'd highly recommend watching all the extras and behind the scenes stuff, really helps you understand which bits were staged as parts of the movie and which parts are genuine reactions from real people, aswell as the trouble they got into trying to make all this stuff. Sadly the sense of humour isn't really appreciated by mainstream society anymore but since it's release it has become a massive cult hit. Highly recommend Ali g to anyone who hasn't seen it before too, aswell as The Dictator.
"Sadly the sense of humour isn't really appreciated by mainstream society anymore but since it's release it has become a massive cult hit." What the fuck are you talking about? Borat was one of the, if not the single biggest comedy of the entire 00s. It was a cultural touchstone and it's still referred to constantly. Phrases like "very nice" and "my wife" are basically common sayings. Borat is as recognizable a movie character as Indiana Jones or Darth Vader. It's about as far from a "cult hit" as a movie can possibly be.
@@mickieg1994It's not an opinion, it's a fact. Borat's not a "cult hit" by any conceivable standard. You might as well say Tropic Thunder or The hangover are cult hits.
I remember when we went to see this masterpiece in the cinema, the whole audience stood up and applauded when it ended... And my stomach really hurt from all that laughing...😂😂
Fun Fact: When making this movie literally everyone was not aware this was a movie or that Borat was an actor. These are all people's genuine reactions, only Pamela Anderson was in on the joke not even her security knew about it
Cohen wanted to do a Mercury movie that celebrated his life, whereas the band wanted one focusing on his death and how they carried on after him. Case in point, one of the scenes he pushed for that the band shot down was a recreation of Mercury's habits during concerts where he'd do a line of coke, bang a groupie, and do about 5-7 songs in a row and then rinse and repeat till the concert is over.😂
I hope this doesn't come across as weird, but you have one of the most infectious laughs my dude. Love watching your comedy reactions most, among the other ones I do watch. Keep up the great work!
The jokes the humor coach was teaching were of course elementary, but it was designed for those who do not understand American (or Western) humor, so you have start with the basic, old, cliche jokes to establish what are the fundamental things that are considered funny. Conan O'Brien level string dance and tiger roars are the more advanced stuff you learn on your own when you pop open a brew or light a blunt while watching late night talk shows.
Little fun fact. I grew up in the same church organization as the one in the film (united pentecostal church international). They would talk regularly when this first came out about how evil this man was lol. I believe this was one of the ones either in Mississippi or Louisiana, I can't remember
The beginning was actually filmed in a Romanian village, that's Romanian language not khazach. @"genuine chocolate face, no make up", you got owned by that one!😆
The church he ends up at is one my uncle and his family went to and you can actually see my cousin holding his little baby brother for a split second in the church.
Back when this was released in late 2006, I was renting a room from a very proper, uptight, 70-something British lady in Montréal, Canada. In November (or maybe early December that year, I can't remember), she asked me what were some good new movies, as she was thinking of going to see a matinee with a friend. Anyway, I told her about Borat, but I downplayed it, and listed a couple other examples, including The Prestige and Casino Royale, warning her that Borat was maybe a bit too...much for her sensibilities (I suggested that she watch James Bond instead, as I thought very highly of Daniel Craig's first outing as 007). Well she'd have none of it (I think she took my warning as a challenge), and so one Sunday afternoon, she and her friend from church saw the masterpiece that is Borat. To her credit, she did find it extremely funny, specifically citing the naked wrestling scene as an occasion where she laughed so hard she cried (although I'm not sure what her friend thought). I never got asked for another movie recommendation though!
It took a lot of courage from you to do this reaction video. It was great seeing how this movie gets the best from the best people and the worst from the worst. During the making the production team got called by the cops 92 times At that time the movie got a record for being sued 7 times, all settled or dismissed. It took me a few years to watch it completely because I felt sorry about some people in there, but at the end of the day he got to the point. And doing this reaction video could have got you roasted. Thumbs up.
I seen this movie in theaters when I was 17. And have bought and lost the dvd like 4 times. I just watched it for the first time with my teenager.. It's still as funny as when I first seen it. The sequel was good too. Also his show "Who is America" is wild. What people will do when they don't know they are being set up is wild
I'm from Kazakhstan! I've never watched this movie before but I wish Sacha Baron Cohen would've visited our country it would be the best PR for us. That's the thing that would make all the media going crazy about it, we could have so much tourists here, man that sucks that some people in our country hate this movie so much
It's funny cause there's a man who hates Borat and Sasha, so he made a film about a tourist mistakenly finding his way to Kazakhstan and enjoying himself. In an interview, he showed off his life-sized doll in the image of Borat with devil horns and said "We're civilised people, we're nothing like the movie made us out to be. We're not like filthy gypsies." So he ended up proving the movie right.
I saw this movie for the first time when I was 12ish and it wasn't until I rewatched it a few years ago that I realized Borat called Lunell from the ad, and THAT was the reason they were kicked out from the dinner. For decades I thought that the Southern dinner party hosts were terrible people who kicked them out because she was black 😅.
OMG YES! was wondering when you'd be reacting to this 😅 my mom quotes this movie alot 😂 "very nice" "nice success". Also Sachas wife in real life, Isla ,is a babeeeeee

Whats crazy about this is the fact Sasha stayed in the Boray character the entire time they made the film he was Borat 100% of the time he was awake and none of this was scripted
21:34 i love that you actually address it instead of skipping by it like a lot of reactors do. i grew up in the deep south, my high school team was the rebels, our mascot was a confederate general, and the confederate flag was everywhere. their argument that it’s about “heritage” is always either in ignorance or just plain bad faith.

Azamat was *not* potraying Charlie Chaplin, he was playing Oliver Hardy from from Stan and Ollie, a legendary comedy duo from the early days of hollywood. Stan Laurel was a skinny and a tall guy, while Oliver Hardy was was short and stocky, just like Azamat.
Where I live they just changed the name of a street from Franklin to MLK st and I swear it’s been more violent around here. I have no idea why that happens but it does.
Sasha aka Borat aka Ali G aka 1000000 characters. He had an HBO show called "The Ali G Show" where he did all these characters and 90% of all the shots they thought Borat was a real person and were unaware that they were being made fun of, there was lawsuits and all that. Maybe that will make you laugh even harder lmaooooo. Also, Sasha is Jewish so his jokes are based on middle east stereotypes of Jewish hate. Dude is a genius, and there is a part 2 to Borat and it was crazier.
Both movies are “real” in the sense that they were filmed with people unaware that it was a mockumentary. Most people thought it was a real person filming a real documentary. However, Borat is a character created by Sacha Baron Cohen and originally appeared in his TV show, Da Ali G Show.
Man mel, you may need to do a Schwarzenegger month and watch Last Action Hero, Twins, Jingle All the Way and Commando. You will have a blast from the past.
They filmed the hotel fight in a real hotel and the hotel had no idea what was going on and the people in the elavator seeing them 2 naked had no idea this was all for a movie which to me made it 10x funnier
This movie was filmed on location across the US. It wasn't necessarily shown in the order of filming. Only 2 people on camera knew the movie was being made
If you know anything about this movie, I believe he got arrested and all kinds of stuff making this movie because a lot of the people in it did not even know they were in the movie… Like the people on the train and the people walking around New York they really weren’t part of the movie from what I understand… A lot of that movie with improvise in a lot of it was real reactions from people who didn’t even know he was doing a movie
The fact that people actually belive this is real lol. the marketing was so good for this film it actually has everybody believing it wasnt scripted 🤣🤣
Hilarious movie, I laughed so hard I almost gave myself a hernia. xD Just wanted to recommend another movie that's flown completely under the radar for me and seemingly for a lot of people, "Shot Caller" (2017) starring, among many others, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister you know) and Jon Bernthal (!). Family man makes a mistake and winds up in a Californian state prison, and once itside it's sink or swim. It's a raw, unmerciful look into parts of the US prison system and what it does to people. The movie actually starts with him being released from prison, and we follow both his struggle to complete a deal he can't back out from, while his time in prison is told in flashbacks. Just a fantastic movie, great performances all around (Nikolaj is terrific!), and a haunting score. The last movie that had me this gripped was Sicario (2015), and that's saying something. o.O Fair warning though, it does picture the heavily racially segregated US prison system where (at least in some prisons) each of the different "races" stick together. With the main character being a white guy, it does mean that the story is told from his POV, with all that that entails. It isn't, at all, that the white guys are portrayed as the good guys, and that the other races are bad. The white guys in this are guilty of committing horrible crimes, it's just.. at least they and their choices ARE portrayed. I would argue, however, that you could do literally the same movie with a black guy as the main character, or an hispanic, or whatever "race". That just isn't this movie.

To the credit of the Jewish couple, those were isopods (pillbugs), which carry no disease, generally do not infest, and pose zero harm to humans. They're also easy to breed in captivity and were probably put there by the film crew for that gag lol.
Fun Fact: The scene with Pamela Anderson had to be filmed twice, with different people because on the first try nobody jumped to save her.
Also, the fact that a lot of the people didn't know Borat was just a character and that a lot of people in this movie tried to sue Sacha Baron Cohen after it came out was hilarious.
Further facts, the security guards were from the First take.
What was the basis of the lawsuits haha?
@@made-line7627 probably something like "You made me look bad!" even though they were the ones saying that shit, lmao
yeah, they try suing for defamation like bros you weren't tricked into anything.. you put the stupid in your own mouth
frat guys got expelled from university of South Carolina. I actually met the big one one time. I was told prior to meeting him DO NOT MENTION BORAT. LOL.
Seeing this in theaters back in 2006 is still one of the Top 5 most hilarious theater going experiences I ever had. 🤣
Mine too! Tropic Thunder was another one that got insane laughs. But Borat was something else.
Bruno was a wild ride in theaters too I couldn’t breathe from laughing and some people walked out from being triggered 😂
I remember when my friend and I went to see it in theatres. Everyone lost their minds especially at the naked hotel scenes. It was straight chaos and I was in TEARS witnessing it all the reactions!! 😂Also, there were so many people who didn't know its a mockumentary and he was playing a character. Then they were trying to sue him afterwards as if Sasha forced them to show their how racist and homophobic they were. 😂😂 I use to watch him on his HBO show as Ali G wayyy before the movie came out so I assumed people already knew he was bullshittin' but boy was I wrong. **sighs** Great times!
Yes, the old Borat skits on the Ali G Show were hilarious. I hope he does Bruno next.
@@1nobillyno The Bruno movie came out a few years after this.
@@sgthoughtss I think he means he hopes Mell reacts to Bruno next.
@@thesplawn Ahhh, oops. lol
This, jackass, and team America are the hardest I’ve ever laughed in a theatre
Let's face it Borat is just an hour and a half jackass stunt.
Sacha Baron Cohen nearly caused a riot during the rodeo scene.

You think the naked wrestling scene was wild, just imagine seeing it on the cinema screen! I swear I’ve never heard a cinema audience laugh as hard as they did at this movie, and I was right there with them, busting a gut. Hope Mello gets to the sequel soon 😁
"Sadly the sense of humour isn't really appreciated by mainstream society anymore but since it's release it has become a massive cult hit."
What the fuck are you talking about? Borat was one of the, if not the single biggest comedy of the entire 00s. It was a cultural touchstone and it's still referred to constantly. Phrases like "very nice" and "my wife" are basically common sayings. Borat is as recognizable a movie character as Indiana Jones or Darth Vader. It's about as far from a "cult hit" as a movie can possibly be.
@@bartholen there is no need to be rude to a stranger on the internet because you had a different opinion.
These are all people's genuine reactions, only Pamela Anderson was in on the joke not even her security knew about it
That naked fight scene and Mell's face had me dyyyying XDXDXD you should consider getting traumatized by Bruno next, another gross masterpiece XDXD
Bruno is a must watch!
Oh, yes!
Bruno will destroy him 🤣
Cohen wanted to do a Mercury movie that celebrated his life, whereas the band wanted one focusing on his death and how they carried on after him. Case in point, one of the scenes he pushed for that the band shot down was a recreation of Mercury's habits during concerts where he'd do a line of coke, bang a groupie, and do about 5-7 songs in a row and then rinse and repeat till the concert is over.😂
Freddy was gay.
@@TheDivayenta I mean, male groupies exist, but it's well known that Freddie slept with some women as well as men.

Whoah wah wee wah is now the standard reaction for me and my friends whenever we walk into a hotel room.
The driving instructor and the weather guy are probably my favourite real people in this movie 🤣
I hope this doesn't come across as weird, but you have one of the most infectious laughs my dude. Love watching your comedy reactions most, among the other ones I do watch. Keep up the great work!
The only person who was let in on the joke ahead of time throughout the whole movie was Pam Anderson.
Borat trolled an entire Romanian gypsy village and make everybody angry after the film was released into the public.
Yeah. Must've been super embarrassing.
This is a picnic compared to Bruno....it's a whole other level.
That movie was indeed filmed without anyone knowing, so most, if not all of the reactions are honest and real
Little fun fact. I grew up in the same church organization as the one in the film (united pentecostal church international). They would talk regularly when this first came out about how evil this man was lol. I believe this was one of the ones either in Mississippi or Louisiana, I can't remember
South Carolina.
They got away with the camera man by saying they are legit filming a Kazakhstan documentary on American life
I haven't watched you laugh this hard in a minute. Please watch the second one.
The family guy cut was the chefs kiss haha "they respected me for saying it" pissed myself hahahahaha
The naked hotel scene is peak comedy
I watched this movie in Theatre and a lot of people had to go to the bathroom during the movie because of the laughter. It was crazy 😂
The beginning was actually filmed in a Romanian village, that's Romanian language not khazach.
@"genuine chocolate face, no make up", you got owned by that one!😆
Sacha Baron Cohen often films his movies in character and just goes around to random people and tries to get their reactions XDDDDD
Bruno and Ali G are also hilarious, Sasha just knows how to tickle people just the right way
One of the best lines:
"Azamat: We should go back to New York. At least there are no Jews there."
Perfectly illustrates their utter cluelessness.
The most patient driving instructor in the world 🤣💯
Remember the backstory of Borat is that he's filming a documentary so it wouldn't be weird that he had one or two cameramen
Jingle All The Way is the movie with Arnold in it, in this film, that you said you hadn't seen before. You have to see it, it's funny af lol.
The church he ends up at is one my uncle and his family went to and you can actually see my cousin holding his little baby brother for a split second in the church.
Pamela was in in it and knew what was going to happen. Everybody else there, including her security team, did not.
I'm surprised Sacha didn't get shot, lol.
“Death by snu snu” had me actually spit out my drink 😂😂😂😂
"I never thought it'd end this way, but I always really hoped."
I started cracking up just at the thought of you watching this movie! I’m so excited to watch 😂
Thumbs up.
30:45 my favorite line from the movie is when he throws the bag down after finding out that Pamela isn't a virgin and you hear BUH-GOK! 26:01
That had me laughing when the chicken bawks getting thrown
Mell: "Daaamn. In the first line of the movie. With kids there!" Buckle up, Buttercup.
I seen this movie in theaters when I was 17. And have bought and lost the dvd like 4 times. I just watched it for the first time with my teenager.. It's still as funny as when I first seen it. The sequel was good too.
Also his show "Who is America" is wild. What people will do when they don't know they are being set up is wild
isn't one dvd enough
3:52 only thing that people were shocked to see is that he was wearing a suit while doing it 😂
I'm from Kazakhstan!
We're not like filthy gypsies."
So he ended up proving the movie right.

For decades I thought that the Southern dinner party hosts were terrible people who kicked them out because she was black 😅.

The horse falling down during the anthem is magic
I loved the trivia tidbits, your laugh is contagious and your editor is on point! XD
Except for Borat, Azamat, Luenell, and Pamela Anderson, none of the characters are portrayed by actors. Most scenes in the film were unscripted.
Whats crazy about this is the fact Sasha stayed in the Boray character the entire time they made the film he was Borat 100% of the time he was awake and none of this was scripted
I saw this in the theatre not knowing shit about it beforehand. The place was exploding with laughter through the entire thing! 😆

Borat is so hit and miss, my girlfriend doesn’t like it but I piss myself laughing at it every time I watch it 👌🏼😆
Great video. It was nice reliving the movie with you. I cried laughing to your reaction at 22:20 - 23:00.
The sequel is funny as, also he’s a genius in Who is America
The national anthem scene was filmed near where I live haha
Azamat was *not* potraying Charlie Chaplin, he was playing Oliver Hardy from from Stan and Ollie, a legendary comedy duo from the early days of hollywood. Stan Laurel was a skinny and a tall guy, while Oliver Hardy was was short and stocky, just like Azamat.
Seeing your reaction made this movie funnier than when first seeing it years ago - thank you!

@@HelloMellowXVI it is really sad! He’d be rolling in his grave if he saw how the world was today 💔
There's something hysterical about dropping a bag with a live chicken inside it and hearing it cluck 😂
Both movies are “real” in the sense that they were filmed with people unaware that it was a mockumentary. Most people thought it was a real person filming a real documentary. However, Borat is a character created by Sacha Baron Cohen and originally appeared in his TV show, Da Ali G Show.

Hilarious movie, I laughed so hard I almost gave myself a hernia. xD
Just wanted to recommend another movie that's flown completely under the radar for me and seemingly for a lot of people, "Shot Caller" (2017) starring, among many others, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister you know) and Jon Bernthal (!). The last movie that had me this gripped was Sicario (2015), and that's saying something. o.O
Fair warning though, it does picture the heavily racially segregated US prison system where (at least in some prisons) each of the different "races" stick together.
What are you babbling on about?
