A neat video. I never saw inside a VW trans before, never knew how they shifted, never knew there were so many kinds of hockey sticks or what a hockey stick was. Thanks!
Certainly a different start to this video, no talky, talky at the beginning, I was wondering if you were mad at us and giving us the silent treatment. Glad you were able to get Ruby back together and shifting better, and it was nice that she went back together smoothly and we didn’t have to put up with the bleep, bleep why the bleep, bleep won’t you go in you bleeping bleep bleep.
Funny, that's what the last people said on the original video that those video clips in the beginning of the video actually came from. Haha! Thanks so much for the giggle!
I remember you saying you were familiar with upstate NY , and this vid brought back a memory of south glens falls drag strip in the 60s a guy had a modified bug engine he would drive stock motor daily ,bring the race motor with him ,and change it at the track in no time at all .put stock motor back after the races to drive home ,just thought you would smile at that .good video my friend ,keep up the good work !…..
Yep I used to spend my Summers around Walton, and all along the Hudson. I am NJ border trash, i grew up literally walking distance from the line. Hehehe! Thanks for sharing that story, that was something always I consider doing myself!
@@DuckmanCycles thanks for taking the time for me haha , I really enjoy your stuff and your methods ! Keep us in the loop , you missed a 6 inch snowfall last night , we’ll maybe not enough to come up here ! It’s 9:42 am and 15 degrees. You’re not missing much !…
I never seen the inside of a Beatle or fastback VW transmission before. That didn't look right. You must of been beating and grinding gears along time before it just crunched up. I hope the gears inside are not wore down too. Great fix, Glenn! Rain, rain go away. Come back when the Duckman is not work'in! 3 days and Ruby is as good as..maybe....new.
Thanks... don't be such a downer! LoL! I don't abuse these things... at least not until I have no other option.... and that was when things got stuck. What a mess. It either went in gear or didn't nothing in between, there never was any grinding of gears... and even if the gears explode out all over the highway... GUESS WHAT! I'll FK'N FIX IT ON VIDEO! 😁👍🦆💩
@@DuckmanCyclesYour the VW Pro mechanic. I am not. Sorry if I came off negative, Glenn. My thinking is anything can happen and nothing is impossible. Always ask the who, what, where, and why and look up, down, and all around. Something is bound to happen. Find the solution or fix, and...."GET'ER'DONE!!!"
No I wont claim to be a mechanic, also I'm not a welder, I'm not a machinist, I'm not an engineer... I am a specialist... and a hustler, a hoarder, and generally noisy. I'll find my way, when you know what you want it's only a matter of steps to get there. 😁👍🏻🦆💩
It's nice how easy it is to remove the power train from vws. Funny that you said about hitting on the pizza girl. I was thinking that right before you said it. Lol. I need to watch the follow up video to see if you do. Good luck. 👍 😊 . 🦆
LoL! The pizza girl turned out to be a very fat short guy with a ton of pimples. I guess the day wasn't that great afterall. Too bad... haha! At least my car was driving again!
Interesting video. Couple questions. Why did the hockey stick get so mangled, just age? Also, since the hole was 180 out what stopped you from just drilling it all the way through to locate it properly?
Thanks for the questions. 1. I have no idea, maybe lots of use, but when it started jamming I had to be forceful to get it to shift, that certainly make it worse, it couldnt have helped things. 2. Drill it all the way through (but with a tiny bit) is exactly what I did. 😁👍🦆💩
That rubber bellows you saw me install was the steal. Type-3 is a sealed system, works differently! I may make a short video about this. Hope that clarifies! 😁👍🦆💩
If you didn't have all those transmissions to pick from , could the end of that shifter be welded, then ground back to where it would have worked? Even the bend could have been corrected, no?
Someone else asked that too, but because I don't have a jig to match it to, that wouldn't be so easy. Perhaps after enough trial and error, but it's too much work for me to do it that way. This worked! 😁👍🏻🦆💩
ANY late model IRS VW Beetle or Type-3 transmission will work for you. All you need in the transmission, the mounts and the axles. You will also have to change out the pedal cluster, the shift mount, you'll need a new shifter, and you'll need to weld a tube in for the clutch cable. But its all doable! Hope that helps!
From Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I liked the beginning to this video. At 230 approx, the intro runs. IMHO you don’t need that in every video. I just fast fwd thru it. It’s become non informational. Try a few videos without the intro and gauge the comments.
Thanks my Canadian friend... but for you, as a repeat offender... you may not need the intro. However, this is exactly why I have jump points on the video, so YOU CAN skip that. The vast majority of my viewers are first timers. So my introduction absolutely must be there! It stays! Thanks for the suggestion!
What a hump that was, but now its fixed! Should last another 50 years.

That was a great job done. Ruby is really in good shape. PS: If I ever hit lottery a new garage is coming for the D man.
Oh wow... win for me! Everyone is counting on you! LoL! Thanks man!
Good fix.
I think so.... she's driving! Hehe!

Or did she break down? I guess we'll see in the next tech session video! Heheheh!
@@DuckmanCycles I’ll be watching and a clue if you took home pizza for boomer or the gang 😂
LoL! They get pizza anyway, but only a few of them actually eat it. Boomer usually isnt one of them. Pickiest duck I've ever encountered!

Thanks for sharing, Duckman.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Love you DuckmanCycles you have taught me so much about these cars, also a big help when I had my 74 super and with my 71 standard
Well done Glenn love your content as always
Thanks Clive! More great stuff coming up this week!
awesome video enjoyed it keep up the great work on the herbies
Thanks Robert! Another one back on the road! Hehe!
Very nice job Duckman
Thank you very much! Shes driving again!
...Could you also weld-build and reshape the end of the hockey-stick?
Sure. If I had a jig to put it in to make it straight... that's the gotcha!
Just curious...does Ruby not need a engine compartment seal or metal?

yes thanks@@DuckmanCycles

hi how much metal was in the gearbox oil.cheers Richard new zealand
Hi Richard, there is always a little bit on the magnetic plug, but its impossible to tell where any of it came from.
Looks like u need a wee bit fabrication round ur engine there big fella, oh and happy new from mad jock

He usually is, he's lucky he still has a home. If I didn't raise him, he'd have long ago become a box of McNuggets.
Spanish Cedar, or White Oak Jai Alai?
I think that was a Jai Alai. Yummy!
