One trick I have always used on carb gaskets (I've rebuilt a LOT of Holley 4-bbls on my old cars) is to spray the gaskets (even new ones) with silicone! Works like a charm... 😁
Easy for us anyway, lol... But just glad this one didn't grenade itself. It'll be coming back for an engine pull very soon for the additional problems.
Thanks man, that's actually a small tabletop like from a fast foot restaurant. It peeled off its frame that fell apart. The topper was in good shape, so its my carb service tray now. You can still see the glue pattern in it.
In a couple of months it will be warm enough to work outside here in SE Minnesota. At least it was warm enough in the garage to get the battery out of the Ghia without wearing a coat. It was 39 degrees. I forgot to put a trickle charger on the battery and it died. I just hope it didn't freeze. The garage temp was down in the 20°s when it was -15° outside and we were getting 18" of snow. I need to clean the German carb that I got with the Ghia. It has a Mexican one on it now.
It was warm and rainy all week, but this morning its just above freezing here again, lol! Supposed to get colder again this week. Cold or rainy, neither is good for videos! Hopefully you can catch a break to get a chance to work on yours so its ready for spring!
I have a set here, but not ever messed with them. They are considered an upgrade for Type-3 engines. Probably won't use them though, my Dell'Ortos are better than anything else!
When I was in California had to have them or they wouldn't pass inspections. They have to set them as part of the inspection and in the end I had to show them how to do it
Good question, I'm getting a lot of questions about that hook and I am making a UA-cam short on this topic today. But the answer is.... I formed it by hand out of some hard fuel line, brake line works fine too, as long as they fit into the rubber hoses tightly. The length I never measured, I just form it into shape, then cut it off at needed length. Hope that helps! Watch for the video later today!
Well, because of the nature of the VW air cooled engine on a Beetle... ANY intake and air filter is a cold air intake! The engine is constantly pulling down fresh cold air on top of that carburetor. You need nothing special to reap all the benefits!
Nice work and explanations as always. Totally off topic but in your extremely extensive Beetle knowledge, have you ever heard of a BMW GS engine swapped Beetle?
And a huge thank you! Its not off topic so badly when following a related comment. On its own, it wouldn't quite fit in here, lol. But I have seen it before, but the engine is in the wrong end! 😁👍🦆💩
Running good! The owner had to have it back for a short term, it will be back for an engine pull in the next couple weeks!

That would have dried it off, in my case, too!
Nice sweet job! Every once in a while you get a sweet easy does it repair. We all prayed for those back in my day!

Good stuff Duckman, amazing how it started,, Well done!
Thanks Paul! It runs so much better now!
Great video Glenn! Fired right up!!
Yeah I didn't expect it to be quite that easy, I knew what I was doing, but I still got lucky LOL
@@DuckmanCycles there’s no doubt you know what you’re doing. But that honestly did fire right up!!
Yeah man! Its a runner! FACT! The owner is quite pleased!
Dr. Duckman! Turn your carb and and cough. Love to watch you work from the gallery.
Haha thanks man!
Another one running well. Good one Duckman
Thanks Peter! This turned out good, and will be coming back for some more work, soon!
Nice work. Like the simple cookie sheet bench.

Thanks for the video my friend
Thank for watching, and thanks for the kind words!

Have you ever worked on the stock dual carbs on the 72 bus? Is more like it has three carburetors when it comes to adjusting it.

how did you make the sheperds hook and what did you use how long is it and thank you for your time and the work and making of theses videos

Do they make a cold air intake for bugs? I have 74 standard

@@DuckmanCycles Thank You for answering
it appeared to me when you removed the carb you loosened clockwise turns and counter clockwise to tighten?
Looking down, that's how it would appear, everything is inverted. No reverse theads here! 😁👍🦆💩
Did you find the missing screw
Some people say I'm missing lots of screws, but without context I'm not sure which one you referring to
I think it was one screw out of 4 maybe accelerate pump I am sorry about that I love your videos
@@glennlove6676 thanks so much, I don't remember missing any screws though. They all went back in! 😁👍🏻🦆💩

It isn't leaking oil? You know what that means? It means it doesn't have any oil! 😂
FACT! haha!
Looks like that engine has an exhaust leak.
Its a head leak. 😁👍🦆💩
That back nut is the worst and probably is the cause of everyones vacuum issue after a carb cleaning
The back nut? Need context!
@@DuckmanCycles The backside nut for the carb to manifold
Ahhhh the carb mounting nuts.... the "back" one is technicaly front... because it's a VW, front is front. 😁👍🏻🦆💩
WRONG 4 1/4 TURNS
LoL! Yep! That's why I video this. In the video you might have seen I settled at 5, and the car didn't need much after I started it.
I hope that you don't brush your teeth with that brush
Well, I did.... but no time recently. LoL! 😁👍🦆💩
LOL
