I rent cars all the time while at work. Other cars just feel like they're held together by cheap plastic parts, even new 2024 models. They feel like the engine, transmission, suspension are not in sync. I drove a new Ford lately and the accelerator pedal was so vague that it was just a suggestion by me than an input. When you get in the BMW, it's just smooth, everything is tight, steering, brakes, engine, and if you just touch the accelerator it just goes. I have balding tires right now and my ride is just silky smooth and quiet still, it's a testament to BMW suspension. BMW just has the best chassis and drive, that's what you're paying for.
It’s facts. Even a base model F30 328i without any sport package has better throttle response than its class competitors. I’ve driven other cars with similar and sometimes even more power than a 328i and they feel noticeably slower under 60% throttle. Like I drove a Lexus IS300 which has a 2.0 liter turbo four just like the Beemer and you have to floor it to achieve any meaningful acceleration whereas the 328i, even in comfort mode, accelerates smoothly and adequately with very little throttle. I feel that too even in a lot of modern vehicles that I've driven compared to my old 2008 328i haha. Chevy, Ford, etc. feels cheaper in every way. Owning a German car spoils you. I do wish the manual experience was a little better, but it's still fun.

Long term goals which almost never have an end, so in some ways you are still grinding.
As a BMW salesperson, I thought the G80 would be an absolute failure because the internet roasted the grille. However, the G80 has been the most successful M car BMW has ever made. Four years later and we still are selling them straight off the boat.
@@504Kellz-zy9qhyou can laugh. But I doubt many of the people that bought the car, genuinely thinks it is a handsome car. To a degree it is willfully ugly at the front. While I am not in the market for a car at this price point, if I was I would try to buy a better looking car.
Yeah, I couldn't believe the weight when I saw it. But I think they're just masking it with computers. It's a point and click car for people to compare numbers on a piece of paper.
I've owned a 993, a 997, an f82 M4 and now the g80 M3 (all manuals). I am 100% the driver you described. We have three cars and only one is mine. A fourth just isn't happening. Banned from a 2 seater but craving a performance experience. It's hard to beat the look and feel of a 993 but, I must say, the g80 has been my favorite to drive. The engine is incredible and the manual makes everything exciting. I really love it.
@@NomenClature-o8s I picked up lunch for one of my employees yesterday- just a basic combo meal- almost $14. Things are more expensive- and shouldn’t require some kind of revelation to an adult.
G80 owner here. You captured my usecase perfectly. I live in the middle of nowhere and drive my car over long distances and only get to enjoy my car when im driving alone to work. This car is very comfortable in rush hour traffic, cruising on the highway and letting it loose through beautiful mountain passes. It does everything well
100%. I’m an F80 owner & have extensive time in the G8X platform. These vehicles do everything perfectly & tempt me to switch often. This will be an M car for the ages.
Interestingly, I am in the opposite of position of you, and the G80 still fits my use-case perfectly. I live in a very large city, don't drive much (5k miles a year), and parking is hard to come by/expensive. If I had more than one car I would need to street park one of them and the likelihood of that car getting broken into, cat converter stolen, tickets, etc... is very high. So the notion of a single car that can satisfy the enthusiast in me when going for a fun drive, have rear folding seats for random errands, be comfortable enough for 3-6 hour weekend road trips, and be highly capable for a track day... all in one car... is pretty awesome. If I had more garage room I would for sure want something like an Evora 400, Z06, Cayman... but even still, my daily would likely still be something like an M3/M5/RS7/X5M, etc... The beauty of the G80/G82 is you get all that practicality and on a track it would beat or be nose-to-nose with any of the aforementioned sports cars (and even many supercars).
Just a reality check, a 2004 base BMW M3 coupe starts at $47,100 MRSP, $78,179 adjusted for inflation. The convertible base MSRP is $92,000 in 2024 dollars as well. The middle class buying power has eroded at the same time but the car prices are bang on with inflation, and you get so much performance nowadays for that money.
exactly what i think about whenever mark goes off on how expensive cars have become, when the increase in performance value is not commensurate with the price increase at all
Meanwhile if you go on BMWs website right now, a base M3 is.... $76,000. Literally in line with what they cost 20 years ago. All the doomer economics in the comments don't show up in the aggregate data, y'all need to get with reality. These are the good times right now. wages have outpaced inflation the past few years, unemployment is at historic lows, the economy is doing well, home ownership rates are on pace with previous generations. If your own personal situation is bad I feel for ya, but don't pretend that's the situation for the whole economy and everyone else. All the people doing well aren't on the Internet complaining all day. If things suck for you right now, take advantage of opportunities and do better for yourself.
12:31 Bingo! Just picked up a 24 CT5 BW Manual few months ago and in love! Provides the same all in one package as the M3, a fast fun daily practical 4 door that can haul the family. What it offers that others cant 668hp rwd manual sedan, raw and visceral feeling and that sound! No other manufacturer offers something like this right now, honestly never thought I'd buy a caddy. Im coming from an E92 M3 to B9 RS5 to this CT5 BW, honestly my favorite car so far. Yes, fit, finish and luxury may not be up to par but that joy that engine gives me is unmatched. The sound is just insane, cant get that sound anymore with all these small liter turbo motors unfortunately.
Another CT5-V Blackwing owner here who came from a manual E90 M3. I enjoy it far more than my drive in a new M3 xDrive Comp. Engine is amazing, fantastic manual, and wonderful chassis with truly amazing Magneride.
You got that right, since having a family the only fun me time now I get is in my GR86 when going to work and sometimes at the weekend. I truly understand now why sports cars are made!
Originally I thought the grill was horrendous, I despised the overall look. But then I drove a manual G82 M4 at my local dealership and it was as though a powerful set of beer goggles had been plopped on my face. I enjoyed driving that car so much that when I was walking around the exterior after the test-drive I was thinking to myself 'huh, this thing actually looks pretty darn good'. Hahaha.
Thats what happens when ur a follower n easily brain washed everyone on media told u it looks bad n u tricked urself into believing it untill slowly u woke up. 😂 This thing looked stunning since day 1.
Same here! Absolutely hated the front grill, but then I saw one in person and it completely changed my view! So much to purchasing one. Granted, I know the Internet loves to hate pretty much everything. 😂
For real! And the way they just have some stick looking plastic piece in the back holding it up! So ridiculously bad looking, especially as a passenger! You would think the designers would have designed the screen integration better…
@@JacesOwnWorld "You would think the designers would have designed the screen integration better…" Hah, you would not think that if you saw the outside.
I have and M340 and love it and this M3. Having driven the M3 Comp, it is incredible. But for the price my money goes to the Caddilac CT5-V Blackwing with a manual. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.
But I don’t want cake; I want steak, which is why I wouldn’t buy either of them. For the record, I owned an E36 for 18 years, and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it had more cake than I really wanted.
I would honestly buy the CT5-V with a manual just for resell value alone. That car also has a V8. It is going to become an instant classic and bring in lots of $$ in the future in manual form. I would drive it very little to where the ODO wouldn’t show any more than 5-10k miles.
@@JacesOwnWorld When you are buying a car for resale value, you are no longer a part of the car enthusiast group, especially when you are hoarding a good car away from another person who could be having a blast driving it all the time.
About right. Drove M4s on track at the BMW hpd event in Palm Springs. Came away absolutely flabbergasted and in awe of the cars capability. Just brutal performance and incredible engineering. But I felt nothing. I manipulated the pedal and wheels, but the car did all the driving. Like a sim setup, indeed.
That's why I bought the 6spd manual.😜 *Completely* different experience. Sure, you give up the opportunity to have AWD (and a bit of hp/torque) ... but it's totally worth it (and then some). Amazing machine.
Im with Jack on this one. If I have the money to run a car like the M3 it doesnt matter all that much if its 80 or 100k, since the running costs alone needs you to have a high income anyways. What I want is a sports car I can also take for a trip without all the compromises to a race car. Thats why it sells so well aswell. Can you have more fun in a track specced Miata? Hell yeah! Do the buyers of the M3/M4 want that? No.
@@samiwasti8400as a new g80 M3 Comp owner , roughly what did that $12k/ann. go to? Prepared to maintain it however it needs to be, but curious what aspects of maintenance are most costly (esp. given new car maint. for 3 years)
I get what Mark is saying. I can't believe we are at this place in the world where M3s cost this much. I was young in HS and college when my "halo" cars the e36,e46, and finally the e90 M3 were produced. Always expensive, but seemed manageable to own at some point. I lusted over these cars and said one day I'll have one. Finally (and fortunately) having a great career that is paying off after years of hard work, my day is coming. I have a G80 M3 6MT that just arrived at port and should be delivered in the next few weeks. I geeked out and painstakingly went through all options and tracked it like a car nerd throughout the entire build process. I thought I'd go for an m2, but my better half convinced me otherwise. Jack nailed the buyer type to a T. I want to have a fun driving experience when I'm at home. I want to drive my car and let my kids have fun with me on the way to take them to school (memories). The reason my original fun car is sitting in shortage is due to lack of versatility. Wrapping all this up, I'm thrilled. Yes, it is overpriced. Yes, it has muted handling compared to years past, but wow, I'm about to own the last gen manual transmission RWD, ICE rocket sled that produces nearly 500HP. It is the "Jack of all trades" :) . I didn't consider any other car. This hits all the marks for what I want out of a non daily fun car. What a time to live in and I'm finally living the dream of M car ownership. Great video, keep up the great content!
Miata is the answer. I fell for the numbers game too, my last car being a 2023 M2. I had to be going 100+MPH to "feel" anything..., and I'm not a track person. I'm now in a 24 MX5 RF Club. I now understand why Miata is always the answer.
I went down a similar route as you, had a ct4 blackwing now traded for a BRZ. These new cars are so capable it just makes them numb like youre playing a driving sim. P.S. I typed this before I heard Mark say the same thing lol.
Disagree. Being tall, I can’t fit. But if I was shorter, it’s still too gutless. Some of us like instant power whenever we want. A Miata has to be run out constantly and thrown around corners constantly to even enjoy it. That’s cool and all, but most of us are too busy to take cars out constantly to windy roads or tracks, and more so daily driving on streets and highways. This is where “instant power fun” comes into play, and is so much funner than a wimpy little gutless Miata.
That rawness that you used to get in the E36, E46, E92 is long gone and not coming back. With the power/performance on tap you really can’t go back or you’ll have a whole lot of insurance claims. You could say each of those generations above lost a bit of feel. This is where the numbers game, huge horsepower, warp speed 0-60 and 1/4 mile times have their drawbacks. I’m still in awe and amazement that you can have a 10 second car, easily 9’s with minor mods that drives so easily. Hammer it and it’s a beast yet controllable in comparison to what a car running 9’s would have been like in the 90’s. It’s amazing how tame performance can be, and while you lose that rawness and feedback, you gain a far more capable car. Yeah that feedback is awesome, but so is pounding the street with something so capable.

I have a jb4 that's a simple piggy back tune and front mount intakes. That's it. Spent roughly 1.2k and I'm running 10.4 quarter miles and my 0-60 is 2.7-2.8 sec. Truly insane numbers with just a piggyback plug and play.
@johndoe70770 yes. It’s bigger, heavier than a GT350 and the newest dark horse. Also it’s slower mid corner. Where it finds its lap times are corner exit traction zone and straight.
depends which one you get. 8 speed xdrive is close to 4,000 lbs, but the manual RWD base car is more like 3750 according to the scales. Not horrible, but still a bit heavier.
@@Wyde_Boi modern cars have corrupted your sense of heaviness. The thing is the same weight as a model3 performance, a freaking battery car that’s possibly even faster. It’s almost double the weight of my lotus elise
Totally. Xdrive is simply not the kind of system you get when you want to thrash your car like an M car of old. It's super unpredictable and jittery at least to my low skill and having driven every generation M3.
@johndoe70770 I just looked it up and a manual M4 is 3,709lbs (according to C&D), so within 50lbs of a GT350R. Not bad considering most of that is probably the CF wheels that you'll take off for the track anyway. Edit: the GT350R is 3,717lbs... I thought it was just under 3,700 since that's where the SS 1LE is at too. I guess 3,700 is the new 2,7000 XD
Absolutely spot on review and understanding of the G8X. I've owned mine for 2.5 years, 6MT G80, and absolutely love it. The 6MT version begs for certain mods but these are bargains already with values for the 6MT dropping while the xDrive version holding. A piggyback tune, CDV delete, some exhaust mods, and the base G80 is easily the best car to drive around every single day in. I'm at 25k miles and loving it.. despite replacing rubber bushings with spherical bearings, full coilovers, single turbo conversion, etc. lol
surprising with 6MTs going away that they aren't holding their value. Before ordering new, I was looking used and they were hard to find. Either way this gen is going to hold value well as the last ICE m3 gen.
Jack nailed it- When you’re at the peak-career stage of life, your selfish-fun time is in the driver’s seat during your commute. While I don’t like any BMW today, this car is compelling on the spec sheet as that do-it-all car. For me, I’ll take a lightly-used Veloster N DCT, plastic-and-all. The kids can suffer in the back, and I get to continue hyphenating at every opportunity.
Sending this comment to the wife. So true! Selling other toys that require me to travel to get to. Just no time with kids but a fun car like this would help.
You know what's something I don't appreciate? For the drive sections of the videos, they're doing two drives (at least). One for their impressions, and one for driver pov. Sounds simple enough, but you realize that they're perfectly sinking up the outside view with the inside experience. Thats pretty hard.
Jack is 100% on point with the 1-car approach. This is how I use my M2. Kids fit in the back, nice to drive on work trips, can pack it up and wring it out on track days, and put some snow tires on it for the winter. I'll consider getting a G80 someday for this same purpose!
Sounds like everything that was said about the GTR in the past except more refined. I appreciate a car that can do it all and haul a family if desired.
Because fact of the matter is that the Giulia QV is 7-8 years old and is still more pleasurable to drive and does everything they wish this car did. Except maybe go a little faster.

In wagon body at least, it’s the closest you can get to the elusive single vehicle garage
Amazing video gentlemen. Again. That said, shame about the looks of this thing, prefer the M2 and it’s manual transmission, although the looks of the M2 is also questionable.
You guys have described me to a tee. I had a c5z when I was younger, and I miss it every day. Nothing else I’ve driven has felt anywhere near as visceral and connected as that car. Now I have a wife and kids and drive an STI. It’s a fantastic and all-rounder that feels way more mechanical than most other cars in its price point on the road today, but it’s an econo-box and it feels like it. The vette feels like it slips on you like a silk glove. The STI feels like you’re in a glass shoebox. Where I am today, with a wife and two kids, I need something that does everything but gives me a sense of joy when I drive it. I’d love a CT5-V BW, but living with New England winters doesn’t lend itself well to a monster v8 rwd car, as amazing as it is. So I’m considering an m3 competition xdrive. I only have one garage bay for myself (and one for the wife), so both a daily driver and a “fun” car is not an option right now. Thoughts?
You will not be disappointed. I literally don’t know what other car to get after this m3 Xdrive. Anything faster is less practical and comfortable. Anything more comfortable is slower and less athletic
Jack hit it on the head. the m3 is an amazing 1 car solution. its fun in theory to say its better to get an Accord and a Boxster or something like that but most people don't have the time to drive 2 cars
The greatest all around car on the market today. It can outrun damn near everything with enough space and comfort for the family. My M340xi is a great car as well but after driving a M3 at M Experience event I prefer its extra tautness and power. If you think BMW’s are expensive, try pricing an entry level 911.
could you imagine how many cars BMW would have sold if it was only offered in manual? The fact is most people are buying this car just for it's straight line performance. I think you'll find that very few buyers care nothing about driving feedback, balance, and input even if they say they do.
Great videos on on M3, i really agreed that you said we dont need so much house power on a car, but the connection between driver and vehicle. such as Subaru BRZ mannual, 718 2.5T cayman.
The thing with price is that, nothing is priced like it should be. The “entry level” or slightly above sports cars designed for younger audiences are 50k (400z, Supra, etc) none of the prices make sense anymore.
The E36 and E46 were the two best looking 3 series! I'm sorry, but the front end of this car looks like it was designed by Stevie Wonder, because obviously he didn't see his creation!
Is the latest IS-350 F-SPORT RWD with torsen diff on the list for Savagegeese to (re) visit? It's not an M3, for sure. But maybe it's a sedan that's just capable enough to be an exciting car on twisty back roads...once up to speed Ala "drive a slow car fast"? And it's normally aspirated v6 makes enthusiast noises.
Or you could get a decent condition 993 911, a good condition 996, an excellent condition 997, blah blah. The problem for me is that the older cars look better, and it’s not like I’ll ever be able to use the performance envelope any of them offer. $100k could be 2 GR 86’s with one getting converted to a safari car. And money left over. Idk. It’s hard to be motivated for a new car (Elantra N) when that same money gets me into a properly sized 911 with hydraulic steering, or a Cayman in decent condition.
Yeah but do you want to maintain that car that has aged out? That's what stopped be from buying a boxster, the Elantra N despite having EPS has better steering"feel" than tons of cars thanks to the IDA (pricier or cheaper). I feel that too even in a lot of modern vehicles that I've driven compared to my old 2008 328i haha. Chevy, Ford, etc. feels cheaper in every way. Owning a German car spoils you. I do wish the manual experience was a little better, but it's still fun.

Exactly. The new Camry tops out at 42k 😂😂.
For the whiners: the base price of an M3 in 2000 was $45K. Adjusted for inflation that’s about $82k.
The M3 has always been expensive.
Everything except look appealing
See, the people that own them or have driven them extensively know how great they are 👍🏼
I have a M850i, some similar points. Fun factor is high enough for me.
Just a reality check, a 2004 base BMW M3 coupe starts at $47,100 MRSP, $78,179 adjusted for inflation. The convertible base MSRP is $92,000 in 2024 dollars as well. The middle class buying power has eroded at the same time but the car prices are bang on with inflation, and you get so much performance nowadays for that money.
exactly what i think about whenever mark goes off on how expensive cars have become, when the increase in performance value is not commensurate with the price increase at all
Biden did that!
@@chuckcribbs3398 this started well before Biden and is a class issue not a party issue. Don’t let them fool you and have us turn against each other.
2008 M3 base price was $56,000 then, adjusted for inflation that's $80,000 today.
12:31 Bingo! Just picked up a 24 CT5 BW Manual few months ago and in love! Provides the same all in one package as the M3, a fast fun daily practical 4 door that can haul the family. The sound is just insane, cant get that sound anymore with all these small liter turbo motors unfortunately.

Hahaha.
The aftermarket bumpers look better, but that front grill has slowly grown on me to the point that I like it
No, it doesn't. lol
Thats what happens when ur a follower n easily brain washed everyone on media told u it looks bad n u tricked urself into believing it untill slowly u woke up. 😂 This thing looked stunning since day 1.

Once I saw the gt3 version of it I fell in love
Can't get over those screens. Same thing with the new Mustang. Its like a Sim cockpit.
For real! And the way they just have some stick looking plastic piece in the back holding it up! So ridiculously bad looking, especially as a passenger! You would think the designers would have designed the screen integration better…

More fun for your money than one of these,by a mile.
I agree but it's just way too small and impractical to have as a daily.
did the same with my 944 I can have fun around the speed limit if you want to pass me in your BMW and do 85 have fun I have a smile doing 45

@@AviationDirection Ya it’s the Goldilocks of BMW sedans. Fast and capable enough, good MPG, reliable engine, affordable, and overall fantastic daily driver.

Absolutely spot on review and understanding of the G8X. I've owned mine for 2.5 years, 6MT G80, and absolutely love it. The 6MT version begs for certain mods but these are bargains already with values for the 6MT dropping while the xDrive version holding. Thoughts?
Snow tires, and extra weight in the trunk (i.e. a 70lbs sandbag or two) should be fine with the CT5-V.
You will not be disappointed. I literally don’t know what other car to get after this m3 Xdrive. Anything faster is less practical and comfortable. Anything more comfortable is slower and less athletic
Rent a storage unit to keep the Blackwing in off-season.
Too bad they sound like a vacuum cleaner, nothing beats a v8 man. Get the caddy
Cadillac ftw and just rent a storage unit
Jack hit it on the head. the m3 is an amazing 1 car solution. its fun in theory to say its better to get an Accord and a Boxster or something like that but most people don't have the time to drive 2 cars
I don’t hate the front anymore. But it’s still not a lasting look
Can’t stand it
For all the hate Audi/Porsche gets for being conservative, at least they still look good 10+ years later.
It looks garish. Sometimes I'm up for garish. Other times, I want something pretty.
100% spot on. But they know this. A lot of commenters dont though, or at least pretend they dont.
You forgot the Giulia qv....that was my personal choice between the two. Best car I've had!
We are devolving as a species
I would argue we never evolved in the first place
It's just that we've now started to notice that we never did
There are analog cars out there but humans prefer laziness. Save the manual.
@@THEANIMALGUY no, cars are better in the late 80s to early 2000s in many, many ways.
It’s the slide to us all being the humans in Wall-e.
Jesus you whining babies are pitiful.
It’s a great do all car. Just crossed 11k miles on my ‘23 x drive.
good lease car, can't imagine owning a bmw though. after 5 years it's not worth it.
Better off financing these, at least the m3 xdrive. They’ve held value exceptionally well.
Amen, and if you do buy one off lease, get an extended warranty.
Perfect analysis of this car. and i agree with Mark. Less power, more feel.
Alfa Romeo Giulia QV🇮🇹🇮🇹👍
10:18 I like the isolated feeling and the tech in this M3, but I can see why Mark would think this is boring.
If I had the money for one of those, I'm not sure that I wouldn't get the Elantra N instead for most of the reasons mentioned in this video.
For slightly more than the down-payment on the M3, you could buy an Elantra N in cash.
You could buy TWO Elantra Ns for the price of this and have enough money to rent some track days and have you and a friend race them.
Yeah but do you want to maintain that car that has aged out? That's what stopped be from buying a boxster, the Elantra N despite having EPS has better steering"feel" than tons of cars thanks to the IDA (pricier or cheaper). N Mode is a hoot and Normal Mode drives compliantly, at 30+ MPG Highway. @@JoshuaKoerner
@@MK3504 yes, actually. :) There’s so little in at least my life that feels like if I pour into it I receive something immediately back. It’s like a dopamine treadmill, but I keep getting a better and better car out of it. Not faster or more power, but more reliable and door-opening for adventures. Most investments in life take a lot longer to return a useable yield, than doing maintenance on an old car. In my opinion.
That shifting sound is crazy. Almost to the point where I wonder if it was engineered to sound like that.
It is, 100%, engineered to sound like that.
Everytime I hear Mark laught a part of me think this world isn't that bad.
11:40 This has been the mission of the M3 for decades. 👍
I prefer Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.Soo much joy😊😊
My 2020 m340 drive has been by far the best car I’ve owned. I love it.
To some people $100,000 is candy
Not many people
@@colin-nekritzNot many people should buy a BMW M3.
Some people are taller than 6’4, some people have an IQ of over 140, some people can run a sub 4.3 40 yard dash…see how that works?
You have a scooter
To me, only a dollar is candy
E9X M3. S65 for life!!!!
At 6:21, Mark exclaims, “Jarred my prostate loose.” I have a Lexus ES350. It gently massages my prostate for $50,000 less. What’s not to like? 🤣😂😝
Gross
Such a beauty…can’t wait to pay off med school student debt and finally be able to get a nice car ☺️
What’s the point of becoming a doctor if you struggle to afford a BMW 😂😅???
@@jamieorion5814 I didn’t go into medicine for a car 😂 I am neurosurgery resident & barely make $60k so I have other expenses priorities and constraints
@@jamieorion5814He'll be looking way past BMW once he finishes his residency.
Those SNIFFERS will never not look awful.
I modified my E60 535xi and tuned it to 530 wheel horsepower, it's all wheel drive with a manual transmission, I have XDelete and it allows me to switch between rear wheel drive and all wheel drive, my E60 is extremely powerful and does everything this M3 does for about 25 grand.
1990 BMW M = Motorsport
2024 BMW M = Marketing
I appreciate you two
Lets be honest, the front still looks absolutely horrific, sadly.
On a one car idea it's a good choice for myself, I drive a decent amount as a commuter but don't make 911 money yet. My build is the M3 Comp rwd a couple of mandatory options its 88k with everything you need and some goodies.
