Watching Scott realize he's been gone far longer than he thought when he sees grown up Cassie is heartbreaking. You have to remember, it's not just 5 years of her childhood he's missed, he was in regular jail, he was in superhero jail, he was on house arrest. He's missed so much time with her, and now, she's grown up, and he's missed it all. Makes his, "you're so big" line hit a little harder and I feel like Paul Rudd' delivery of that line was spot on.

    • @Chrizzx3
      @Chrizzx3 Рік тому +73

Exactly. Depression or gaining weight due to emotional trauma does not make you a lesser person, you're still valuable and special, hence why Thor never became "unworthy" at any point there. Under all the emotional trauma and distress, he still is, as his mother said, the "man he has to be" and to some extend already is.
I love the scene and the message aswell. Thor really needed that talk and the knowledge of him being still worthy.

Came to comment on this. One of the most impactful moments to me. Feeling unworthy had nothing to do with the weight he gained. Although everyone failed when thanos completed the snap, thor felt it the most. The fact that he didnt "go for the head" is the only reason half the universe was gone. It left him feeling like a complete unworthy failure. Seeing him gain back some self worth and declare himself worthy was the best. Anyone who battled depression can relate

They did make a few jokes about fat Thor, but the overall story was never a joke. Thor lost everyone and in the most decisive moment, in his eyes, he failed to be the hero he needed to be, as in not going for the head. As a result he stopped caring about everything, most of all himself, and gained the weight. Here we see the redemption starting, where he doesn't get himself to the former warrior shape he has been in, yet realizes he doesn't need that to be worthy, it was inside him all along.

I mean, I think people didn't know how to react honestly, some laughed because it was uncomfortable IMO. But he is the epitome of what depression is pretty much. Given how Alex has trouble remembering certain things throughout the franchise, I’m gonna use my comment to answer any questions he has throughout the video and point out any and all callbacks and various details. This is gonna be a fun one
“Is my boy on house arrest” yes, in Infinity War they establish that both he and Scott are on house arrest due to breaking the Sokovia Accords in Civil War
Notice how Nebula was really confused by shaking Tony’s hand. When she’d lose to Gamora she’s get a piece of herself replaced with machinery. She’s not used to “sportsman like conduct”
*Cap’s eye as they head to space*
“That’s a cool shot” if I remember right, that’s meant to be a nod to the movie Interstellar which had a similar shot
Infinity War started with Tony telling Pepper he dreamt they had a kid named Morgan and 5 years later that dream came true 🥹
“Thor’s depressed. He’s self medicating” yes! So many people laugh at his “I went for the head” and think his character is just meant to be a joke. Glad to see someone identify right off the bat that he’s suffering from PTSD and depression
The Big Lebowski joke is really meta since Jeff Bridges starred in that film and was also Obadiah Stain in the very first Iron Man
Hulk’s time travel logic confused everyone and it took me 2-3 years to finally realize what he meant. Say you decide to time travel from 2022 back to 1970. Because time still continues as normal for you 1970 onward isn’t “the past” but rather your new future. 2022 is the past for you, since all those events in your life already happened. And because technically 1970 onward is your future anything you do can’t alter what you already did in your past even though time wise 1970+ happened before 2022. Hopefully that makes sense. It’s way easier to explain with a diagram but I can’t do that here 😅
Fun fact: the production team was going to use practical suits for their time travel attire but they weren’t ready in time for filming so for most, if not all the scenes involving them, those time travel suits are completely CGI
“What’s this one’s name again?” The Ancient One
Thor shocking Tony’s arc reactor back into working was only possible because Tony modified his reactor and suits to harness electricity after his encounters with Whiplash in Iron Man 2
It might seem kinda dumb, but ever since this came out Thor’s “I’m still worthy” has helped me a lot in dealing with my own depression. It’s a phrase that reminds that no matter how miserable and hopeless I feel, I’m still worthy of having my friends and family. And most importantly I’m still worthy of love
Can’t wait for part 2. I’ll be here with more details and callback explanations 😁

That time travel explanation still doesn't work. Time and Space do not work on a personal level like that. Literally the only way that time traveling into the past without it affecting the point in time you came from can work would be that any traveling to the past has already happened because it is in the past.

    • @gahrie
      @gahrie Рік тому +6

@@kevinbell5674 The detail Hulk left out is that you don't travel to your own past, but to an adjoining one that is practically identical. You create an entire new branch of time by the act of travelling through time. Spacetime is comprised of countless parallel timelines that have very narrow, usually imperceptible, differences to nearby timelines, and the differences grow the farther away the timelines are from each other. In Endgame, the Avengers travel to timelines right next door, so they share a near identical past, but all are now part of the new branch that has been created.

I love this movie. I saw it three times in the theater. the small details are what really makes this movie great, but three characters really shine in this one for me. Clint (Hawkeye) Nebula, and Scott (ant man) these three really deserve some recognition. everyone acts their ass off in this one but those three's performances are something special.
The small details though, the Marvel logo, is missing all the characters that were dusted, Hawkeye still wearing the ankle monitor both in the first five minutes set up the.
Nebula playing the game with Tony and not understanding that it's just a game. every competition she has been in her entire life was combat, and after losing a part of her would be carved away and replaced with a machine. then when she wins... it was likely the first time she ever won anything.
As for Steve and the support group. Everything is a cliche for a reason. He hasn't moved on so how can he help others do it. He and Nat are both stuck, they just deal with it in different ways. Cap by trying to move on and help those still around. Natasha by hanging on as tightly to being an Avenger as she can.
Thor though. I'm so glad you didn't treat it like a joke like I've seen so many reactors do. I remember sitting in the theater absolutely horrified by the reveal of him gaining all that wait and his alcoholism. the rest of the theater was laughing and as a 27 year old tall bearded guy I almost started crying. I recognized how deep of a depression he was in and how messed up he was, and that nobody was bothering to try to help him in a good way.
can't wait for the next part where I'm sure my next comment will be even longer.

    Hold up Alex...
YOU'VE NEVER SEEN 'BACK TO THE FUTURE ' ?!?!?!
Dude, you've GOT to put that movie on the top of your list of movies to react to!!!
    It's a classic, it's funny, & it's a damn good flick.
And one last reason that YOU, really gotta see this movie...
There's a character in this movie that has a laugh that sounds very much like yours!
I noticed a while ago, that your laugh sounded really familiar. It took me a while to figure out who it sounded like, but when I was watching your 'Dark Knight' reaction, it occurred to me...
So, when I was watching this reaction, I was thinking,
"I wonder if Alex has seen 'Back to the Future'?"
And strangely enough, a couple minutes later, you said, "I've never seen 'Back to the Future."
With all the 'Back to the Future' references, I thought I'd clue you in that you've gotta see that movie, (you'll love it, I promise!) Plus, you've gotta hear that laugh in the movie.
I think it's very similar to your laugh, but I'm curious to see if anyone else thinks that your laugh, sounds like Marty"s dad!
PLEASE! ...At least put the movie in your poll!
Though, in my opinion, you should react to 'Back to the Future'
ASAP!!! ...I mean, it's only been out for about 40 years...
I'd hate for you to accidentally have the movie ruined, because of SPOILERS! LOL...
I'll stop bugging you about this, for now...
But, you're missing out if you don't watch that flick!
Oh, btw...If you do decide to watch it, keep in mind that it is a trilogy, & all 3 movies are great! If you want to get the full story, you'll have to watch all 3 films. But it's worth the time, & after 3 films, they actually 'stick the landing,' as they say...
    Ok, back to 'ENDGAME!'

Honestly the best cinema experience of my life. I have quite serious health problems and I knew it would be a struggle, I'm usually in bed for like 7pm, but I'm so glad I did it. I was ill for a week after but definitely worth it. Scottish audiences aren't as enthusiastic as the US, and I wasn't really expecting a lot of noise etc, but there was definitely an amazing atmosphere!
