I wish I had seen this years ago, before the alcoholics in my family did themselves in. But you have to want to change and they obviously didn’t want to.

Thank you I’m trying to help my parents with their addiction. As a teenager it’s really hard to build that trust and a relationship where they will believe you.

It truly is. It's so hard to keep pleading with them. Then we make some progress only to be back again pleading how their life could be so much more enjoyable. It's a roller-coaster of emotions, and the worrying about them is constant and exhausting. I do think this video is very helpful. How is you're son doing?

That is interesting that we're supposed to be honest. I thought that I was not supposed to express my feelings because that would contribute to their guilt and make them feel worse. Thank you for this wonderful set of advice.

This is great advice, my loved one lives in Japan, only hear from him infrequently when he is drunk, so am no able to form much of a trust between us. I pray daily for him, he's young, and I have to trust God there is no where else I can go.

Unfortunately for some alcohol dependents the bottle is more important than anything else..my loved one is destroying her relationship with me and family members one by one..the drink rules, alcohol isn't to blame, everyone else is. This person is a ship sinking and sucking everyone down with her. So sad.

Your boyfriend has choices…he can see a doctor and get on a drug called naltrexone. It helps to rid a person of the cravings and if they do drink the effects are not as strong and help with the psychological belief that alcohol is their “happy” drug…you and he don’t have to go this alone..reach out for help…all the best to you.

My adult middle aged daughter's alcoholism has finally come to the forefront. once she got 2 DUIs and lost her job it couldn't be hidden anymore. She admits she has a problem, but so far has done nothing about it. My dilemma is how to reach out to her. I'm afraid of it being taken as intruding. She doesn't call or reach out to me at all. She has a court date at the end of this month. Should I go with her? I am soooo out of my depth here.

How do you deal with a 76 yrs old who has been placed in a nursing home and who after going through withdrawal and recovery decides they want to move out of nursing home and into a flat and demands to once again have access to their bank account in order to 'have their independence back'. I have been through this process time and again with her and she is frail and I know she will do the same thing again. To deal with this again at her age without the assistance of a nursing home is impractical and it is also too late for her to make such decisions. I. E in six months or a year she would probably need assistance of a nursing home anyway. For her to move now is stupid in the extreme and no doubt I as her daughter would not be able to find place for her in another nursing home. Your advice would be appreciated.

Hey kianpartovi5501, you can always google places near you for substance use and addiction. You can ask each place any questions you might have about consultation. (: hope that helps!

Well I experienced with my alcoholic sister that she always went back to denial once she started drinking again. After rehab when she was stabilized she agreed it was good to detox and get back on track then she starts drinking again and suddenly she would say she was in rehab because of her depression apparently alcohol never was the issue. People always say that admitting to yourself is the first step to recovery but my sister always seem to go back to step zero once she starts drinking again. Any suggestions?
