Its not hard to find a brand new nice Toyota, it is an entirely different ball game when it comes to finding something as special, unique, and clean as an 80 Series. Toyotas' Finest Hour.
That is one cool vehicle. I think your getting into some of the older, classic Toyota trucks like this and the FJ (I know, not new for you) is a great direction for your channel and makes it interesting. Nice purchase!
Currently restoring a 40 series. My personal favorite Land Cruisers are the 70 series pickups. Toyota still makes them to this day, which is a testament to the design.
Awesome! How far along is the project? The 70 series is a tank. I really like the iconic look it has and the fact that they still build them blows my mind. I absolutely love it.
Nice find. I have a 97 had for over 10 years one of best vehicles i have ever owned.Over built for sure. In the last year ive have had to replace the power steering pump and fuel pump for the first time. Lasted 25 years pretty impressed.
@@UntamedMotorsI bet! Somehow, this LC reminded me a moment from my childhood (around 1995) when I saw the LC for the first time. It was a dark cherry red LC 80 parked in my apartment complex in Ukraine. Back in those days, no ordinary person could afford to buy one, only mafia people could. It was truly overwhelming to realize that I could probably get shot if my soccer ball accidentally hit that brand new baby 😅 So I always admired it from far away
@@UntamedMotorsit didn’t deter but instead, it made me extra curious but careful at the same time. In the era of Soviet cars, seeing this foreign boxy machine was like seeing Jesus coming down from heaven 😂
Love it, least I got one of the cars right lol I want to see everything, how you maintain it, rustproof, getting a 3rd row, engine detail, can’t go wrong with any video on such a clean 80 series
There you go. This will boost your channel for sure. Love these things. Trying to find one. Have a 1990 fj62 that’s completely original and a low mile rig. Keep up the video’s love watching them.
Hello Untamed, in my old days (the 90’s) high valued cars were mark with their vin in the windows to make it more difficult /discourage thieves to resale, car, parts or mask. Hope this helps. Greetings from Yellowknife 🇨🇦
Yup I liked being able to just put the key of my dad’s 1988 Nissan Hardbody truck in my surf trunks and go out then comeback and get in and drive off. It was a 4-spd manual 4x2 4-cylinder standard cab with manual windows & locks we put a bed topper on it. It did have a/c though. I miss those simple trucks.
That's some unique carpet. Congrats on the purchase, love my 80 for different reasons than I love my 200. Too bad they removed the drop tailgate on the new 250.
A lot of dealerships will etch vin or special # code into glass of vehicles to prevent theft and chopping. I had that on my 1996 Accord I got in Portland, Oregon.
Wow! Congrats on finding that unicorn! ….. and I do believe the VIN etched on the windows was a part of an overpriced “dealer” installed security and recovery package.
@@UntamedMotors …. I can’t get over how nice this LC is for coming from NY. The winters are pretty bad and the salt and brine they use is not kind to Toyota trucks. I had a 2008 or 2009 Tundra a few years ago that came from upstate NY and the frame was replaced for the previous owner by Toyota before I bought it. I also bought a new 2006 S2000 that the dealer insisted I purchase the “gold” or maybe it was a “platinum” (Lol!) security and recovery package because he said the S2000 gets stolen a lot. It was like $1100. Included the etching and stamping metal parts like the inner doors, fenders and even parts of the engine. I walked away and he changed his mind and sold me the car a day or two later. Again, congrats on the LC find…and as an owner of 2 previous FJs I look forward to your content on your ‘14 TT. I loved mine but bought a bigger camper so I traded my last one on a Tundra.
@@Dano-MX5 haha nice! I hadn’t heard of the window etching before. Good 411! I meant to say it in the video but the previous owner traded in several vehicles (both the FJ and LC here) for a Ferrari apparently. Both of these vehicles spent their entire lives in CA. 👍 only transported to NY for the trade in.
@@UntamedMotors …well, that explains the undercarriage’s condition. My 2018 Tundra I have now came from Arizona last year with 71k miles. Looks brand new underneath, Just had some fading on the roof that I was able to restore.
That radiator looks like it may be on its way out? When they discolor, almost turning to brownish color, they can crack easily. It's the plastic getting brittle from all the years. Happened to a friend who had an old 1998 Lexus GS and Mechanic basically told him about that discoloration means time to change the radiator. Just a FYI as I'm no mechanic myself.
Very cool. Although probably no where near as enjoyable to drive as your 200 lol. Now the fj … never been my cup of tea and never will be but looks like you got a great color! You should do a video and list every car you have ever owned.
Wow!! Great condition. I have the same CE model in black except....mine has the "magic switch" 😁 Really rare to have a CE with front and rear lockers so I was stocked to get it. I am guessing over $25K? I have the 3rd row seats if you need them. My interior is the same color as yours. And I would replace your radiator ASAP. When they get that color they are prone to blow and check your heater valve at the firewall. If it's discolored replace it too.
I'm in CA, and I just bought one in NY, I am debating if I should drive back or shipping. Do you have a recommendation for the shipping company you have used? TKS
That’s cause it was all in the same design language and generations were all available new at the same time. Just like you can see a lot of similar design cues between the fj cruiser, 5gen 4Runner, newer facelift 3rd gen tacoma, and the 2nd gen newer facelift tundra, same goes for these. It will Definitly look like brothers to the 4Runner and all other Toyota trucks in that same time period and generations that were together between the different Toyota models.
Something about this 80 Series doesn't feel right. Green carpet and that interior color and interior style might be it. A 1980s Land Cruiser seem more your style, and your modern Land Cruiser is awesome. This Land Cruiser is some middle ground that to my eyes isn't as bare bones and cool as the older ones, and not as nice as your modern one. Almost feels "dated" instead of "retro cool".
