      Congrats! I had no luck trying to get a copy of the key made at the Toyota Dealership. I ended up going to a locksmith's key shop and they were able to create another key for me without any problem. The blank that they used for my new key was for a Lexus.

      my 1990 3fe has all the goodies, but its over 32 yrs old so i have removed most of them like all the aircon, headlight washers, auto windows to manual, rear heat and air con removal, changing floors to vinyl and door cards to abs from aussie door cards, swapped the broken console fridge for a brand new waeco fridge freezer with $100 my way and there old normal centre console to replace old busted console fridge, i got it with arb lockers front n rear but had to fix seals so they worked again, the kaymar rear tyre carriers are over 30yrs old n just replaced bearings and gave them a dulux upgrade with a lick of paint n look like new, i payed less than 2k 10yrs ago for it and parts I've removed and sold off I've made triple what i payed for it and these rare parts some people want in there old rigs i have used the money selling them for upgrades on my rig like lift kit tyres dual batteries solar ect.. , i dont want all the elec gadgets i want a simple offroad car with a simple easy to work on engine that is reliable, yes the 3fe uses alot off fuel but its very reliable and cheap to service and keep running and basic parts you will break 4wding can be kept on hand for a quick fix, my old turbo diesel 80 used to cost me a fortune on services and parts cost less for fuel and had a lot bigger range per tank but ya add up all the extra costs off oil changes and maintenance on a diesel to petrol fuel I'm well ahead with the old 3fe 80 in the last 10yrs

    Fun fact, the Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension (TEMS) made its debut in the second generation Toyota Soarer (Z20) and it was also the worlds first production vehicle to ever have electronically modulated suspension. Excellent and unreal engineering by the Japanese in the 80s, truly remarkable and crazy to see how far adaptive suspension has evolved since!

    I got to drive a VX in a drive day around a racetrack in New Zealand in the late 90s. It was a turbo-diesel with an active suspension, I thought it was a fantastic vehicle. It was so much better than the other big four-wheel-drive vehicles of the time. I always thought they were the vehicle to have if you needed something like that.
    There are lots of those used Japanese imported Land Cruisers in New Zealand, maybe a source of parts?

    Once again, North America can't have the really 'nice' things. Thanks for the video! I own a 1988 BMW 750iL which is pretty luxurious in itself, but there was also a higher trim "Highline" option which nearly doubled the cost of the 750iL. The Highline had such niceties as a rear wine cooler, sometimes a rear TV, rear radio, rear AC, and a lot of extra buttons on the driver's console. The Highline was never officially exported to the USA either.

    Was stationed in Japan 92=96 and never once considered something like this. Had a 1982 Toyota Lite Ace van with rear A/C and chill box, about the best rig until that time. Weird driving from the right hand side but I got used to it pretty quickly. Left handed so shifting was just normal. Wish I had looked at these when they were new. You'd have to find it used. I think it would be a tough find, as most of these JDM 80's are still on the road, so the manuals are still with them. The US manuals seem much easier to find because they rack up more miles/rust and get parted out.

    Hey man great video, I had one very similar but it had double fuel tank, but the second fuel level was in the place that your compass is. • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  2 роки тому

      Thanks! The diesels are very expensive to import here because everyone wants one, especially with the front & rear lockers. If I found one, it would have probably cost twice as much as this gas one, which was the cheapest imported 80 at the time.

    • @MD-rg4fg
      @MD-rg4fg 2 роки тому +1

      @@6thGearGarage yes, I recently found a 1995 diesel with all diff locks but it’s not as complete as yours, I might buy it because it just has 140K miles and it’s in good condition, but I’d really like a VX Limited diesel with manual gearbox but they’re rare and most of them have the drivers seat on the right side

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  2 роки тому

      @@MD-rg4fg To be honest, a lot of these extra options are going to be a headache down the road. Parts for the icemaker console are becoming obsolete, such as the evaporator which is no longer avail. The rear AC is nice, but it and the console create more opportunity for freon leaks in the AC system. Then there's the electronic adjusting suspension... when those shocks wear out it's going to be extremely expensive to replace. I really prefer simplicity and that's why I don't buy modern vehicles. The VX Limited is still simple compared to modern vehicles loaded with electronics, but may be difficult to find certain parts compared to a less equipped 80.

    • @MD-rg4fg
      @MD-rg4fg 2 роки тому

      @@6thGearGarage yes I absolutely agree, it is difficult to find some parts, I think it’s about knowing the right mechanic, here in Texas I fortunately found an imported vehicles dealer from Europe that is expert restoring these type of vehicles. However I am more the collector type of buyer, I’m not really into daily driving these vehicles.

      This one has the same engine as the North American 80's, so I can get those parts anywhere. If it had the diesel, I'd have to order the parts ahead of time. Aside from the extra options that the US never had, the only other parts that might take some time to source/order is anything related to the RHD steering. Nice thing about the 80 though is that they were built to last a lifetime, so maintain them and you should be good.
