Hurricane and Babylon A.D. and definitely Lilian Axe are no Glam or Hair Metal...awesome musicians no poser Attitude... Mention Raw Silk ( here in Greece 1989 )
Great list! Vain was a VERY underrated band. My old band back in the late 80's used to cover "Beat the Bullet" & "Icy". I think most kids thought those songs were our own because no one knew who Vain was, but we just loved that first album! We also covered "Misery Loves Company" from Lillian Axe. 💯
Only reason these are "rare" is because stations like Hair Nation rarely, if ever, play them anymore. If you were deep into the 80s hair scene, you'd have almost all these in your collection already.
No...A lot of it was cause the Radio Stations wouldn't play bands or songs unless they were popular or ballads...all about the ratings...and also cause a lot of these bands weren't shown much if at all on MTV. I use to watch MTV every day coming home from Middle School in the 80s and a majority of these bands weren't on their at the timeframe I was watching. Most the time...It was all about the countdowns for MTV...
Lillian Axe - most underrated band of the genre! Amazing work, especially Love & War and then Poetic Justice and then followed up by the even better Psychoschizophrenia

'No Respect' is still one of my favourite albums. The production on that record is phenomenal. Still sounds raw and like a band you'd want to see at a bar.
Jamie was a local guitar instructor when I was in high school. The No Respect demo that’s out there they is far better, IMO. The songs on the Island release were whittled down. The guitar solos only give a small taste of what James Scott does on the demo. They played the Omni and The Stone regularly and yes, they were a band you wanted to see play live.

Some of these bands were cool, some I never cared for. Babylon A.D. were cool, and another in that vein was McQueen Street, very late to the game with their only hair-era album in '91. I really liked Child's Play's Rat Race album as well. I remember liking Roxy Blue and Wildside a lot at the time, but looking back I can see that they were both very derivative. As I get older, I gravitate more to the dirtier-sounding bands like Junkyard, Circus of Power and the like, rather than the smooth-voiced, flash-guitar bands like Heaven's Edge.
