Im a Filipino Architect and Environmental Planner. If Im a developer it would be easy to sell the project and pursued clients who wants to buy a house like that. Because of unique features compared to other development housing projects. I This admired the braveness of this Vietnamese Architect. Because some architects is trying to impressed other developers only for a profits without the regards of nature & humanistic well being. Thank you for making this documentary.
Absolutely love your ideas! Been living in Japan for many years and the concrete jungle is becoming the norm everywhere- it is great to see people like Vo Trong Nghia taking the initiative and pushing forward past accepted practice with these designs that serve the people who live in these structures as well as everyone around. I am a big fan of bamboo and hope Japan starts using more of this fantastic resource we have in abundance as well! I was happy to see that he did his thesis at the University of Tokyo and had Japanese architects on his team- it gives me hope that it may start to become a reality here too.
Congratulations! I watch ArchDaily often. There are VERY few architects with a biocentric focus. There is no reason to pollute with excessive use of concrete, except lack of will or imagination.Good luck in your future proyects!
RandomComment 2016 i know that u dont care enough about Vietnam, Vietnamese war official ended 35 years and Vietnam also apprare in many world channel about food, beautiful landscape, technology, medicine, etc😏
At the end of 2018, it is unequivocally tremendous to look back at how the architecture landscape in both urban and rural sites has evolved. The adaptation of architectural designs on social improvement on a global scale that the architect Vo Trong Nghia implemented has a great impact on the prosperity's perceptions.
For them to think that way in Vietnam is like when the American`s talked about putting a man on the moon is the 50`s and 60`s. I love to see forward thinking like this.
Speaking as an American who has been living here in Vietnam (HCMC) for over 5 years, I love this mans vision and what he is doing. I will be retiring in the next few years and my wife and I just bought some farmland going out toward Da Lot (don't know precise location). We will be building a small house on the land and I would love to have Vo Trong Nghia have a look at it and give us an estimate. I will show my Vietnamese wife his videos and I hope she is as impressed as I am. Mr. Vo Trong Nghia do you have any contact information you can share with your viewing audience?
I WAS JUST " BACK TO VIETNAM " 2014 APRIL-MAY AND WOULD LIKE TO MOVE THERE , THE PEOPLE ARE VERY NICE AND WARM AND I ENJOYED THE CULTURE TOO ..................HOW WOULD I CONTACT THIS VIETNAMESE GENTALMAN TO BUILD MY HOME THERE .? .
It's about introducing and encouraging green spaces. Clients "see with no eyes" and are only looking to make profit. as the video said, the locals are reluctant to a change in taste, so therefore they are reluctant to approve a green project like so. However, if he does small projects and build up his portfolio, client's will more likely approve his work and end up building spaces in Chang Mai. It's pretty clear...
A house this small for $4000? That's still too much! Why not incorporate industrial building materials with local materials available to achieve a more economical sustainable structure? There appears to be too many alternatives here that have not been taken into consideration.
its tiring to impose your own design especially its new to your market. each and everyone has its own taste. architects are there to provide essential ideas for passive house designs. most of of his designs are japanese type. i like the test tube house design of vietnam and i think he can incorporate passive design ideas to that.
A.H.M. Rakibul Islam Your right Mr. Islam; we learned this farming family profits just US $500 / year. On the other hand, I could see these new homes being used for 3-5 decades with occasional replacement of all the organic woven panels. The basic longevity, makes the $4000 a reasonable investment. Will anyone offer mortgages? How will a farming family, like the Phams, save this much up front? Social issues are at least as important as the engineering and erection issues.
that must be the strategy thinking for many vietammese architectures nowaday , he has the great mission and vision, I wish the Government has the same thinking !
i really like his ideas however i think the money he spent on that house could have been way cheaper pre cast cement is good but the material used on the structure some what expensive i build homes in Jamaica for under $3500 USD . typical model a solid block bathroom and the foundation being fully cased complete with living room bed room and a balcony and a Kitchen

well these are very crucial points you raise in any house projects we tend to use a lot of steel in the foundation of the building and the structure in general .. this is a very important time for me as i will be starting a new project this summer very personal one building a Quad for my mom the lower section being my space whenever i visit i will be shore to post Videos insha ALLAH
Billy Khan That is quite interesting, i live here in Jamaica and would really be interested in seeing your videos and the ways you go about constructing these sustainable and economic homes.

This is really an meaningful option for people with low-income, But 3 years elapsed and i dont know why this inspiration has not expanded wide out.. .
I WAS JUST " BACK TO VIETNAM " 2014 APRIL-MAY AND WOULD LIKE TO MOVE THERE , THE PEOPLE ARE VERY NICE AND WARM AND I ENJOYED THE CULTURE TOO ..................HOW WOULD I CONTACT THIS VIETNAMESE GENTALMAN TO BUILD MY HOME THERE .? .
His company is in Saigon, u can google its address
I like nature, Great Man.
Developer rhetorically asks Vo Trong "We all want the highest profit, don't we?" 19:51
How is building cheaper housing out in the Mekong Delta
gonna help increase green spaces in HCMC?
Otherwise great vid with neat little editing FX

They have helmets but no shoes?
$4000 isn't low cost in villages.

+Steven Dornbusch But if you see the layout of the new house, it does not seem functional at all!
+Naveen Bharathi Indeed the interior seems off...featuring only a living room? nice
it is for long term
heck, I would love to buy that house they don't want.
great idea!
that must be the strategy thinking for many vietammese architectures nowaday , he has the great mission and vision, I wish the Government has the same thinking !
Great story! If only he can find more eco friendly material besides concrete.

So many of the people in this project are Japanese, not Vietnamese.
These Japanese architects work for him. They are his employees. Go to his office to count how many Japanese work for him? Less than 3.
You are moderan god
A voice over would’ve been better so I can concentrate on watching the video instead of reading subtitles
looks good but not livingable
He looks like Manny Pacquiao
