  • Communities around the world are currently faced with a number of large scale environmental challenges, including dangerous, irreversible climate change. Many of these challenges stem from cities and our resource intensive urban lifestyles.
Fortunately, an array of concrete solutions to these challenges are already being developed and implemented in cities around the globe!
So we set off on an inspirational journey to explore the most innovative ideas, technologies and initiatives being used by cities today as they strive to create more livable and sustainable cities. We sought out leading cities that would offer a source of inspiration and with the potential to stimulate wide scale change which sets us on the path towards a one-planet future where humans live in harmony with nature.

These videos always make me optimistic about the future, however, it's really sad to see some of these green initiatives putting NUCLEAR ENERGY in the "bad" type of energy sources rather than being one of the best.

There is no good or bad energy source. The ”bad” things is using any type of energy. We need to use so much less energy to not destroy the planet for us (everyone else will be fine its really only about us humans). This ”less” use of energy is not possible if we have a economic system that is dependent on growth.

Great video! I'm very happy various places around the world is getting on board with sustainability....now if each citizen does his or her part we can be sustainable a lot faster, even if it's capturing the cold water runoff from our shower as it gets warm and using it to water the plants in the garden.

Very critical! As currently we are just depleting nature... One important issue I see unmentioned is.. The basic architecture of building or property needs to be radically changed. Few things must be considered:
    1. Roof top gardening to make up for the surface area lost.. 2. When possible having sky scrapers with exclusive floors for plants/agriculture(I know it's not easy, but possible). 3. When planning road system.. making sure we are leaving certain percentage of nature untouched.. I personally can see having overpass or bridges just to cultivate fruits and veges

they probably think climate change is a grand exaggerated lie orchestrated by the left and by climate scientists to push their "green agenda". And universities are in on it of course because tertiary education is a tool to brainwash society. I imagine they also believe the earth is flat. It's amazing the justifications people can come up with to avoid having to change or accept responsibility.

If you live in an urban area how much are used for commuting? That means a vehicle big enough for 5 passengers is being used over and over for only one passenger. If you need to commute use a vehicle for one passenger. It would be physically smaller can have pedals, electric or scooter sized gas. Since the passenger weight is much smaller the structure can be more delicate and lighter further saving energy. For every commuter car you could have four of these velomobile/ scooters reducing congestion and saving wear and tear on the roads and bridges. They would be enclosed to allow a dry environment with heat and air conditioning. They should be able to carry upto a 240lb rider and 100lbs of luggage.

a lot of these ideas are just concept-stage and barely scrape the surface. They are being promoted by people who dont really understand the science involved. Some real-world highly useful options include solvent-free paints eg Lakeland Paints - which are solvent-free, VOC-free, Non-toxic and actually edible ! Surely, paint solvent is a tiny concern you might think ?? Not at all - paint emitted 24 MILLION tons of greenhouse-gas solvents into the atmosphere last year and every year (WHO 180 et al) - and these solvents are on average 20-50x worse than CO2. So - if you really want to do something to help counter global warming you could do a lot worse than switch to one of the VOC-Free paints out there.

9:33 That is a lie. People will understood. It cost more for a electric vehicle than a regular car. That is why the government has these programs for a rebate when you purchase a electric vehicle...to make it seems more cheaper than gas engine cars. So who end up covering the cost of the rebate ? It is you and I who end up covering the cost of rebate. How you ask ? Well do you not pay taxes. ?

Even without a tax rebate. How on earth does a $35k Model 3 cost more in the long run then a gas car?

A city in the current economic system and its current state CAN NOT be sustainable. I dont understand how they think cities can consume so much from outside the city and somehow be sustainable? If you learn to live off the city itself, where the food is produced in the city and next to it, material for buildings and products only taken in or next to the city, then it can be truly sustainable. Cities are just mega consuming hot spots that only exist because its good for economic growth. Cities will slowly disappear either by force or by choice.
