Nintendo: Here's a tool for us to make money and you to make games. Nobody can play your games but you can make them. Me: I'm just going to keep making rom hacks...
Ah yes! Lawyer Luigi! I'm probably a bit optimistic in saying this, but Game Builder Garage could potentially help the company scout for developing talent because of its confined and controlled nature. Nintendo's presumed ability to monitor and assess popular fan games may lead to inspiration for dormant IPs (at the very least) or flat-out hiring creative, talented developers (at best). Either way, it's nice to see Nintendo embracing fan creations instead of discouraging them.
Another thing to note about this is that just because you work at a given game company doesn’t necessarily mean you share the views on fan content of everyone else there. Some executives or lawyers (or whoever’s in charge of shutting down these projects, I dunno Nintendo’s corporate structure) may see it as copyright infringement and a threat to profit or whatever, but actual game developers there, making platforms like GBG and Mario Maker, can just as genuinely see it as a harmless and delightful exercise in creativity that ought to be encouraged.
The first part talking about Copyright, this brings up a good thought though, what happens when Nintendo characters become public domain? Or does international law get in the way, allowing Nintendo to hold the rights for virtually forever?
I'm sure if Sony ponies saw people were uploading videos making Ratchet & Clank or any Sony IP through Game Builder Garage. I'm sure will demand Nintendo takes them down but at the same time Nintendo won't want Sony's IP (or even Microsoft's IP) advertised on the Nintendo Switch. The situation with Dreams. I'm pretty sure Sony didn't want those Mario levels in Dreams either. Sony took down a custom Halo game in Dreams.
Idk if i can say it embraces the idea of fan games, but it's at least giving fan creators the tools to make content under the nintendo umbrella AND under Nintendo's own terms. Even if someone, somehow makes the next BoTW on GBB, it's still with Nintendo's tools, through a Nintendo game in a Nintendo console, and since it'll only be available through GBB, those interested to play it will have to consume Nintendo products and support the company and ONLY the company in order to enjoy these pseudo-fan games. Gonna assume this is majorly a response to how people were doing fan games on dreams, Nintendo most likely didn't like that cause any kind of support would go somewhere that ISN'T Nintendo.

@Pazrid What about all the ones that weren't threatening sales? You can't tell me that every fan game on gamejolt or dreams was hurting their bottom line.
Customers should refuse to buy this game to protest against Nintendo's abuse of fan content.
Nintendo: Here's a tool for us to make money and you to make games. Nobody can play your games but you can make them.
Me: I'm just going to keep making rom hacks...
How the turntable
You cant make fan game content outside nintendo but you can make a fan content inside nintendo
“you can make fan games as long as you pay us”
And all your ideas may "inspire" us.
The reason is because they regretted hating fangames. They decided to make this as an end to all the fangame suing chaos.
5:03 you enjoy a thicc Luigi
2:19 That got me, ROFL.
I'm literally remaking Donkey Kong with some classmates in Unity!
Game builder garage may be really limited compared to other engines, keep that in mind. It might not be, but no one really knows.
They're fangames on Nintendo's dime and with specific limitations, that's why they're fine with them.
The first part talking about Copyright, this brings up a good thought though, what happens when Nintendo characters become public domain? Or does international law get in the way, allowing Nintendo to hold the rights for virtually forever?
Wait that is a good question what will happen
I wonder if Nintendo would remove Sony's IP from their Game Builder platform without Sony's request.
Only problem is that 512 nodons isn't really enough to make a full fangame with multiple area and whatnot.
I think it's teaching people about game DESIGN, not coding or anything.
They made Game Builder Garage, because they earn money from it, not so people can make fangames
Hopefully they’re more generous with music because they’re not a music company and that’s not a threat to the property
I’m fine with how you say garage. I don’t mind at all.
Neat video! Thanks for uploading!
Nintendo doesn't take down games unless they threaten the sales of other nintendo games.
Sony didn't want those Mario levels in Dreams either. They don't want Nintendo or Microsoft games advertised on their platform.
I got a Game Builder Garage ad on this
I got a Game Builder Garage ad at the end haha
Fans: wait, did you actually love our creativity?
Nintendo: *Always has been*
(Proceeds to trow a Game Builder Garage copy)
Yakko Warner: We all ran out of ideas, and create new things.
(A song from reboots song).
They should have a online feature to share games on it
Nintendo: “This way, we can have them pay us to make fan games.”
Impossible! Nintendo Hates fan games!
Whats up with luigi's absolute DUPTRUCK at 2:17 lmao
So if someone ports Mother 3, It’s just screwed?
It's cause it's from assets they made specifically for "making" games. Not ripped models and animations and sounds that are copyrighted.
when this game releases im going to make a little star fox game on it!
I like how Luigi is now represented as Nintendo since Mario died
0:13 i like this moment because
1. its funny
2. its really funny
3. i watch the simpsons all the time and really like it
Awesome Video
Imagine if the next Mario Kart and Mario Parties (Mario Party Superstars) had a custom board maker you could do. Now that would be awesome)
Yeah but the thing is,the engine is just simplistic, only using assets by nintendo with no creative freedom
Oh my
Speaking of which someone's actually making super paper Mario in game garage builder
If Nintendo gives a green light to fan games, why not any other engine besides Game Builder Garage?
Because Nintendo can have control over Garage.
They don't own other fan game engines.
nintendo: takes down anything similar to existing games and projects
also nintendo: "we love fangames!"
I mean, do you want them to start back shutting down fan games? Because they’ll go back to that for any other way. Beggars can’t be choosers and you all are beggars.
@@Ceece20 yea i know they’ll still do that. now they can have an excuse: “if you want to make games like this, try using game builder garage!”
@savion Evans lol okay, go ahead. That was always an option from the beginning. The fact you are still commenting on it shows you’re still here.
I live in Europe, and because Game Builder Garage is download-only over here, I imported the US version! Got it from eStarland, also where I got Ben 10 Alien Force for my PSP before it came out in my country!
nintendo back then: *doesnt like fangames
nintendo now: likes fangames
😂😂😂
@@krisdreemurr3533 welcome to my 2 year old comment that still holds up today 😂
