All 7 of them speak Japanese. Not sure to what degree, but for sure they are better at it than at English (except RM that is fluent in English). Tho Korean and Japanese are completely different languages, they have a similar grammar and sentence order, wich makes it a lot easier for koreans to learn it.

You’ll Never Walk Alone’ began life on Broadway as part of the Rodgers and Hammerstein show, Carousel, which was premiered in 1945.
The song was an instant hit - perhaps because the song’s message of triumph in times of adversity spoke to the wartime crowds of April 1945 - less than a month before the end of World War Two.
It remained popular throughout the ’50s, with artists including Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley releasing covers. Then in 1963, a recording by Merseybeat band Gerry And The Pacemakers brought the song to the doorstep of Liverpool FC.

Namjoon is the architect behing the idea storyline that made it happen. If you notice each album is not frivilous songs but a story line! You will find props and reminders of one album in another album too, as the even though it is a new story, life goes one. Namjoon changed Rapman to RM ... the Real Me. One of the messages BTS works hard on is loving yourself. The suicide number of youth in Korea is one of the highest. In looking at the history all the way back to the Josean Dynasty and beyond, success for a family was their sons taking the civil servie exam for nobility. Family's pressured the young people to be successful. Even now the young people are under a lot of pressure to take exams and you will find the whole country kinda shuts downs and gives gifts to the youth during the exam days, BTS along with other groups will wish the youth luck. It is a major deal. If they fail an exam and have to take it again it is a shame for them and the family pressure is great. Life and honoring family is different in Asia. The pressure being so great for success and getting a good job leads to a lot of suicide. Thus, BTS addressed this all through there music and Love Yourself album. It made an impact, but sadly they have attended a lot of funerals of young people int he industry trying to succeed. BTS was the first to address Loving yourself enough to live and fight, and it touched world wide.

Based on my research and I've done a lot of studying on the concepts and psychological literature in BTS music as well as BTS history from where I've been able to figure out from what they said in documentaries in and interviews on how album concepts are created is basically different for every project. When it comes to album concepts sometimes the members will go to the company with the song that they will decide to base the album around. conversely sometimes the company will go to RM with a concept or idea he'll take it to the other members and if they agreed to do it, they will have writing workshop where whichever members is participating in writing a song will basically lock themselves away with producers and songwriters in order to finish the song.

If you noticed when they do a compilation album it is not just a rerelease but an alternative beat or lyrics. Like some have said BTS had what they called a band camp style lookout about their music. They would all write lyrics and music pieces for songs. The producers would put them together where they fit. So in reality they all had pieces to songs that were not released that they felt would have sounded good as well. So this is where you are hearing alternative beats or lyrics to songs already released and that is where you get your compilation albums. And as an ARMY mama I really appreciate the work all of the members put into each song they helped produce. Because even though Namjoon is the musical genius behind much of the music. Suga is the production genius behind much of the music. J-Hope helps create much of the dancing for the music and even was the performance director for their last concert the PTD concert. Jin, V, Jimin and Jungkook have also helped create music and lyrics for most of the albums and you can see them in the credits for those songs. Each of the members contributes to the albums and so when they do a compilation it gives better insight of the creative process and that I personally love.

BTS is known to start with a concept (which someone else explained). Sometimes the members bring the beats, and other times their in-house producers do (and more recently outside producers), and then the members who want/are inspired to submit their "take" lyrically (and melody-wise), then the entire group votes and they go with the winner. If you buy a physical copy of their anthology album Proof, the third CD has several alternative takes from the members on various songs. The members whose "takes" don't get chosen also sometimes share snippets from their submission on social media or in livestreams. For the song "Life Goes On," SUGA submitted a take on the song, but the members went with a different one. SUGA then finished his take and added it to his most recent solo album, D-DAY. So as a result,, we now have two different versions of "Life Goes On" - and I personally love both of them a lot.
Also, it is really common for K-pop artists to lend their voices to OSTs for K-dramas, and I suspect for ads as well. Something for you to keep in mind is that most K-pop artists have careers that last the length of their first 7-year contract (the standard length of an initial contract in K-pop), IF they are very lucky- many, many don’t last that long. Very, very, very few K-pop groups sign another contract, and especially boy groups have a hard time because the members will inevitably have to complete their military service and it's rare for groups to be able to come back from that. It's one reason why BTS really qualifies more as a global group - because their fame extends well beyond the borders of Korea, their careers aren't as limited. BTS just signed a THIRD contract last year with their label, Big Hit Music, and each time they have signed it has actually been early by a couple of years. My point in saying all of this is that because their careers are almost always about 7 years long, K-pop groups often bang out multiple albums per year (often shorter EPs that develop into a larger compilation that also includes new songs) and don't hesitate to take on other commercial projects like OSTs, ads, fashion ambassadorships and modeling, etc. They make the most of the short time they have, basically. As a BTS fan, their compilation albums don't bother me at all. They are building a story over the course of multiple albums. It makes sense to me, and I also know that it's a cultural thing and I respect that.

    • @OT7_DopeOldARMY

It's actually STILL not easy to get on the Hot100 with a non-English song...and for a lot of groups they make it one week with mass sales and drop out the week. It's even hard for non-US/UK artists period, even when the song IS in English. These guys probably don't understand how much radio plays a part in that chart, and that US radio simply won't play a non-English song 99.9% of the time.

  • @B16pal

BB Hot100 requires not only strong sales/streams (something BTS was still working towards in 2017), but also strong American radio play - something that is STILL basically non-existent for BTS in 2024
Consider the monumental ARMY achievement that BTS' Korean-language title track for their 2020 album BE, "Life Goes On", debuted at #1 on Hot100 - with only six spins on American radio!

They do come across judgmental about it sometimes, which they could reflect on, but it's pretty unreasonable to expect them to stop using their own, American, point of reference.

    Ok, compilations........you have to realize
They are trying to reach many countries
So not everyone has access to all music or radio air time, unless what is considered new
    Do you understand ?
You have to throw out what America has taught you. They also don't have the thinking of the west OR the expectations that America has.
Remember their country was a 3rd. world country. Because of the Korean War and America showed up to save them from Japan
They were even forcing them to speak Japanese.
Korea was not really a free country until the 1980's
    Before that (early 1920's)
Most people were slaves or commoners without a last name........
So many just picked one (a last name )
The most popular name chosen was ......Kim and Park (that goes in the front)
How many members have this name ?
    THEY, also changed their religion
Catholics were going around and telling them that just because you are born in a slave family
DOES NOT MAKE YOU A SLAVE (during the end of the last dynasty )
    So NOW
Korea is 80% Christian (converted from Confucianism )

Their concepts for the albums.. first school / teenage trilogy, then youth trilogy. How? They life, they started within 15-20 years , by this time they were ..18-23. On the other hand the idea of that CEO was , from the star, to be a group that young people can look up too, that talk about the thing they might go through... And that's why meeting RM was the key cause that's what he wanted to talk about, so was Suga. The two of them were the most impactful in BTS music at the time and always, just that later JHope and others had more imput. Still, at any time they all had an input, they were having discussions, decide on a theme, saying their ideas and their thoughts regarding that subject, any of them could write , propose something and it would be a decision of what sounds better. Just that the others started to write later.
As for their concerts in Japan they do the songs in Japanese version, and in Korean the ones that don't have a japonese version.
