The temtem devs started teasing something on discord, after I put this video together. So far we don't know a lot, but some theories are that it may include overworld encounters, which tbh wouldn't bring many people back on its own, but others are saying that it might be this new game that was mentioned in the video, and perhaps it's part of the temtem universe, or at least a crossover promo like they do in COD when a new game is coming. Only time will tell, but I hope that it means the future for the franchise is bright, rather than dim.
as someone who outside of this plays fighting games, I say this: never underestimate the power of a sequel. Nick All Star Brawl and Granblue Fantasy Versus can attest to this. So I hope any updates the devs do have, if they are making another monster taming game, I hope it's Temtem 2, not an update of current Temtem.
Most people i know bought multiple copies of the games and used bots to farm for shinies. At one point they banned all the bots and the global player amount greatly dropped as many people also lost their legit accounts because it was a full Ip ban. After that many rage quit and around 2-3 months later the game was already pretty much dead. This was before the first extra region was added.
Honestly, this feel a little like what happens with some AAA games, basically, a game that's obviously designed to be single player is being forced into being a "live service" and then have problems because of the limits and traits that such services tend to have.
The thing is: Temtem was designed since the beginning to be a MMO, or at least a MMO-like, the problem is that the devs didn't properly wanted to implement some features and just used the MMO tag to justify live service monetization but if you asked for content it would be another whole discussion for then because "the game is not really a MMO and you can't ask us to make content as such". And even the systems that could be linked to a MMO they would make decisions that made those system unbearable grind, meaningless or just unfun if was not trying to make the game an eSports.
@@exocitus8731 100% this. People were onboard with a live service pokemon-like. Crema just didn't want to do all of that. You can't be an MMO without adding more content. Even Don't Starve Together still manages to add more content and shake things up a bit, despite that not originally being their goal. Once you beat the story in Temtem, there's nothing left but irrelevant pvp for cosmetics that serve no purpose. And insane grind. Those things can't be the end goal for players, they need to be things that happen during and throughout gameplay. Otherwise, why would people bother?
not at all it was always supposed to be an MMO which are live service by definition the problem is that it's based on the pokemon MMO mod which as impresive as that mod is is still just the 3DS pokemon games with extra multiplayer functionality for the most part
So all MMOs currently today even successful ones are "Live Service" Live service never existed when The Matrix Onilne MMO came out in 2009. There was no such thing as a live service back in those days we called them online games or mmos. People make it like MMOs was bad in 2009 and before like it's the current gaming industry we have today going back in time of 2009 to make our lives hell.
The problem is they tried to force competitive on their fanbase. Their fanbase wanted more pve. And like people said, they claimed to be an MMO from the jump, but didn't want to constantly update the game, and it always made me feel like crema must be some lazy ass devs. Didn't they say that last update was the final update to the game, the final tem they were adding? Like are you serious?
Add an offline mode and just have random npc’s around to make the world feel full. I like the temtem designs and the moves look unique and all that. A big thing again is just adding an offline mode
I have actively not bought temtem because its always online. I refuse to buy always online games that arent like a battle royal or something. If im supposed to be collecting, it needs to have an offline mode for when servers go down.
@@GreatLordOz exactly. If and when the online support stops, it would truly be disappointing to just lose all of our tems due to no online. We could still catch evening and battle random characters and re challenge leaders
Color me surprised when I watched the video and learned that it doesn't have an offline mode. Even Pokemon has that. They really should have put that as a major priority and made a separate part of the game that was online only.
Main problem with this game is getting money and being always online. Being forced to catch XXXXXX of temtems just to get money so you can breed them with very expensive items (also dumb breed limit). At least it was like than when i was playing it. Also cosmetics and dyes cost.
this was the main factor i left the game, its a "mmo" where i went the entire story and couldnt even get a single outfit since each clothes shop you find its WAY over expensive for the amount of money you have at the time, heck you can barely afford meds and pokeballs for the story. dont know why they even bother to put clothes stores in the cities since you cant never buy them and by the final boss me and other players we all still look the same as the day we started the game.
Personally, I didn't mind the breeding system in Temtem as I liked the fertility system they had going for it as it fit the MMO market and structure. If you could breed them infinitely you would have an overflow of Tems that are good, since the Trade House was also a good place to get good parents from if you needed. My biggest gripe with the whole thing though, which caused most of the eggs to be ridiculous expensive on the Trade house, is that they increased the cost of breeding. The Strands and everything, as well as the timers to hatch the eggs were ridiculous! That's why I personally dropped out of Temtem as the one thing I liked to do (Breed Tems and sell them on Trade House) wasn't sustainable in the long run.
@@armando92We used to have this exact argument all the time since the beginning of EA and were constantly told its "end game" content. Not the game only has 1-2 islands and therefore not much else to aim for, they fully intended cosmetics to be something mostly for showing off when there's little left to do besides PvP and battle facilities. They viewed it as its own game play loop. Which was kinda the main problem with the game, everything had to be treated like its own niche to dedicate time to, probably to facilitate the battle pass and mtx in hindsight.
Agree with this too the breeding was trash with that limiting crap. It's one thing if they actually decided to make it an MMO, it made sense to do it that way from that perspective, but it's not a real mmo. They don't update the game enough, and I'm pretty sure I read that the last update was the last update, and the final tem was added which is stupid. They need to keep adding tems and content, but seem to lazy to do so.
When I played the economy was trash so it hasn’t changed? Sad. I remember the only clothes that were affordable at all were ugly and basic things. But a lot of the more expensive stuff was also not that special either it was pretty basic t shirts and such but impossibly expensive. And the idea of a group that pays for people to free Temtem just makes no sense. As that encourages the capture in the first place. Maybe if it was “you’ve personally leveled up this Temtem 10 times so freeing it makes money” would make narrative sense but would be awful gameplay wise (for the most part). It’s odd. I had a more favourable opinion on the game earlier on even when I quit despite not liking changes to appearance rates of shinies in the wild. But over time I just landed on “why was this online?” And I think at the time I was a bit defensive over people criticizing that element and in retrospect I was a bit naive for doing so. It really doesn’t need to be an MMO. At least not a forced one.
Players: PVE? Crema: Battle frontier you can do once weekly? Players: PVE? Crema: rotating cosmetic store? Players: PVE? Crema: Stand alone PVP app? Players: PVE? Crema: shinies without the variety? Players: *exasperated sigh*...PVE? Crema: .... did I hear anime?
wait, for real? I actually stopped playing 6 months after release because there wasn't enough PvE content and I wasn't going to dive into torturous breeding just to get my preferred Tem
Yeah, it's kinda dumb to try and force content in an area where there are barely any players. Reminds me of how Legends of Runeterra is going to focus on more PvE content now in order to save their game, because 90% of the playerbase is there.
temtem was fun for me while it lasted but it is a real head scratcher for me that they monetize it like a live service game but don't provide any live service that's when i decided i can't really support such practices and stopped playing. xD
I backed temtem on kickstarter and it was a really big disapointment for me. It has a good core, but gets ruined by cramming everything bad about mmorpgs into it while leaving out most if not all the good parts. I will be very reluctant about their next game and will probably not buy it until a few years after release when it has not only proven to be a good game but also one that does not get ruined by badly thought out updates.
@@NazzyDragonhe’s just being a realist. Obviously he liked parts of Temtem and if they deliver on what he liked and fix some of the mistakes there’s no reason to boycott something you may enjoy.
@@boxinsteadyeddie The company as a whole has a piss-poor attitude and is actively hostile with its playerbase. I don't care if I might enjoy the game, just on principle I cannot give them money in good faith.
Temtem is one of those games I feel should just... Never have been an MMO in the first place. At least not with the developer being this hellbent on never doing expansions of any kind. These kinds of games lives and thrives on bringing new blood every once in a while through new content, but when that content isn't there well... What left is there, really? Shame cuz from what I've played (early access before the 4th island got added, then I got sidelined with other stuff and haven't felt a rush to come back) this was a pretty high quality game, on par with the genre's best IMO.
@@kai0318 The cruel reality of games is that generally speaking, online games will always make more money than offline games, and mobages will earn most of all the online games. Temtem despite their currently small playerbase probably made the most money out of most monster taming games except Pokémon simply by virtue of having online elements in it.
@@Raidenze Cope this game was trash from day one they Purges left Legit players banned. The game became Cash shop hell after EA when fans were crying out for any amount of content past the 4 hour story. As it is now the Game is barely better than a mobile game ported to PC.
It's good you stopped at the 4th island because the 5th and 6th go downhill really badly in terms of story and the post-game is hundreds of hours of grind to have access to shiny hunting.
and as soon as the servers shut down this game is unplayable. They wanted to made an MMO without regular updates and new stuff to add for the content. GREAT idea If this was a "normal offline single player game" i would happily jumped on it.
It’s an issue that has plagued gaming for 5 years…everyone wants to make a LIVE service game so they can get live service monetization but then not actually supply the LIVE service part. Because actual LIVE service is extremely taxing and expensive. So instead what happens is these devs charge LIVE service MTX for a single player game that they refuse to support. All of them…die and fail…every single one.
@@mesmorrow Huh. That makes me wonder if Pokemon slowly introducing new items to make competitive easier was the best way to cater to the pvp part of its fanbase....
I loved what I originally thought Temtem would be when I backed it on kickstarter, a PvE focused pokemon liked with co-op on top of it, but in the end it feels like for a game that wanted to do Pokemon but without the modern games' flaws it actually has a lot of the things I don't like about pokemon, the games feels way to grindy, way too linear, the story is quite boring.. So honestly I'm almost happy they didn't keep adding new monsters and locations, I'd much prefer they take what they learned and make a new game while keeping that in mind I also strongly believe that MMOs are way more suited to PvE content than PvP
I think your comment at the end about devs not focusing only on PVP hits the nail on the head. A friend and I went through the main campaign of Temtem and had a blast, we often talked about looking forward to our schedules matching so we could play some more. But we haven't played in almost a year now after we finished the campaign because there wasn't anything PVE to do together afterward. The final nail in the coffin for me was a combination of how grindy the game was for currency, and their constant need to balance Temtem for competitive. I enjoy shiny hunting Pokemon, so Lumas were really appealing to me. But when I saw how expensive radars were, how hard feathers were to earn, and an initial streak of bad luck that saw me use almost 15 radars without a luma I just gave up on that aspect. During all that I spent a bunch of time, pansuns, and effort to create a competitive team to take on the gym leader rematches to get more feathers. It took so much effort just to get a team that could sort of do it. Then they did a big balance update for PVP and broke it all. Everything I had worked for was gone and I was back to square one with no more currency. The team I built to help level up Temtem was broken, and my gym leader team didn't work anymore either. It was just so frustrating. I do really hope the devs learn from Temtem in future games. There was so much potential here but like so many other games, the allure of a live service cash flow and thought that everyone loves PVP just ruined it all.
The biggest problem about Temtem for me is that most of the time when the devs did something OR didn't do something, all I could say was "WHY". My favorite examples as a massive shiny hunting nerd are that they made Umbras - which I think are super cool as a concept - completely exclusive to the postgame, meaning I cannot use them for a story playthrough as I vastly prefer doing it, and more recently, the fact that changing the TemCard one of your monsters is in costs 250 Luma Drops, meaning you have to *literally sacrifice a shiny to change a damn TemCard*. That being said, I've read somewhere on Reddit that there will be an offline version of Temtem when the servers go down. There's certainly potential there; let's hope they won't mess it up. Let's also hope it'll be possible to mod the offline version, we might see some cool hacks then.
The whole TemCard thing just show how much they are disconnected with the community, people even asked for them to change to another currency since it's a cosmetic item that you will see for a few seconds but to no answer.
Yep. Some truly perplexing decisions. And their response to a lot of community suggestions is that they are technically limited and their systems won't allow them to do that. Well who designed the systems in the first place? So much potential for a Pokemon-like MMO, but they just don't have any desire to take advantage of that potential beyond trying to monetize everything.
Tfw devs start a big thread where community members can vote for their most wanted QoL changes for 1.6, claiming it to be the QoL update, only to add...4 QoL changes. One of which, the expanded emote wheel, only benefits players who buy additional emotes in the daily rotating microtransactions shop. BTW they took an extra month to make this update and it has the least features of any update, is just as buggy as the past patches and comes with events, the separate Showdown client and the championships being canceled. The Showdown Client itself truly was one of the decisions ever. They delayed the arcade bar which was supposed to launch in 1.4 to 1.7 in order to make a SPECIAL SECRET FEATURE. This was Showdown as a separate app. They did zero advertising for it. They didn't hype it up. They actively went out of their way to keep it a secret. So nobody ended up knowing it exists and nobody downloaded it. It also had next to no tutorials and forced newcomers to fight experienced players in PvP so the few people who tried Temtem via Showdown first did not stick around. Obviously the application failed averaging between 0 and 3 players daily with rare peaks of 10 to 20 players (which we figured out was a shady club doing dubious things). When it became obvious Showdown was a flop, they walked back their previous statements about it being the reason for the arcade bar delay saying "plenty of things contributed to the delay and it didn't have anything to do with Showdown" which directly contradicted their statements prior to 1.4 going live. You could also get in trouble on the discord for mentioning Showdown's poor performance and they kicked dozens of players off the discord on the day they made the announcement of Showdown shutting down.
Temtem feels like a single player game, but with the added risk that I'll lose all my monster buddies once the game shuts down. Feels best to simply not get attached.
As an elder of Temtem's PvP scene, what I think a ton of the people analyzing the "overfocus" on PvP miss is the ways in which Temtem's development fundamentally neglected the PvP players as well. While they were given *attention*, they were consistently not given *respect*. Balance changes that were obvious needs to the high level players (and frequently requested) were routinely ignored for literal years in favor of out-of-touch and ineffective changes that felt almost like obstinate defiance of players' feedback. Devs were regularly rude or dismissive on Discord. It wasn't just that PvP was focused on- it was that PvP was focused on in Crema's usual vaguely arrogant and dismissive manner, sabotaging the very basket they placed their eggs in.
@@DrawciaGleam02 I think it helps that Palworld isn't going quite the Pokemon route. It feels more like Ark when I play, with the ability to fight and catch the creatures. As opposed to knocking them out like in Ark. I've never played Breath of the Wild, but based on the trailers, I can see why people consider that an inspiration for Palworld as well. Exploration feels like you're limited only by your determination and Pals you chose to bring.
i really wanted a monster taming mmo and this was just not it... the devs don't listen to anything that people outcry about the most. frustrating but is still an okay solo experience.
@@snintendog It has a solo experience, you're just required to be online while you experience it. I only play this game by myself. The grind in this game is what makes it frustrating, because if you're out-typed by a dojo leader, it's very difficult to fight through that. Especially, if what you got is your best high level Tems. Literally the issue I had with Pokemon when I still used to play. At least there it didn't feel super grindy. But because of the grind in Temtem, I feel like I have to stick with what I'm using. Doing otherwise feels like it would take forever to get my low levels to the same point as my high levels; without retreading the entire path of the story.
@@DrawciaGleam02yes and no, game isnt fully out yet, still in beta, lets see once it hits its actual "fully developed" release and actual content time line, supposedly by "full release" its supposed to hit ps5 so, will the game be a hit? still who knows...
Backed this game. Picked it up around the first playable Betas, I think. If I remember correctly, I was able to identify each and every problem mentioned in this video before the game went live. I tried bringing them up in the Discord SEVERAL times in the feedback room, from what I can remember. I was banned for "toxicity" and had a dev tell me--to my face, in the public chat--that if I didn't like the game, I could just refund it and leave. Which. Wow. I expect to hear that from a 12 year old, not an actual, grown adult. So to hear that the devs are both stubborn and hyper resistant to feedback *and* that these fundamental issues caused the game's decline is not at all a surprise to me. It's just kinda sad to me how much of it could have been seen coming and course corrected for in time. I think I can remember a few of the issues I brought up. Lightning round! -Game world is mostly hallways, directing players down a narrow path that they end up using only a handful of times -Players constantly pulled into instanced battles, removing them from the people and world around them -No incentive for players to do activities together casually or spontaneously, you need to be invited to a co-op group and that was just one additional player, I think. The rest is competitive endgame stuff -Too beholden to Pokemon's systems to its detriment. For example, EVs and IVs were designed to be hidden mechanics; Pokemon only works with those these days since a total refactor of how stats work would be too disruptive for relatively little benefit. -Shiny hunting does not qualify as content. Nothing for players to DO that's not PvP or story progression And a whole lot more that I can't remember off the top of my head. But yeah, Temtem makes the same mistake as those fan Pokemon MMOs do: just taking the games and plopping a ton of people into the same world with no regard of how that changes the dynamics of it all. It's one thing for fans to drop the ball, but for a professional company? I'm a little appalled by how little they thought through the core concept of it before going full steam ahead.
You are right. the devs are straight up crap. They are ban happy and don't want their game to flourish clearly. They are removing content and its looking like they will shut down within the year. 300 players right now is sad.
5 months late so mb but- While I feel like you’re 100% right on everything you just said in your comment, you probably went about telling them the wrong way (Edit: “telling them” as in Temtem’s development team)
Ugh, this actually really hurts to see temtem going so downhill. My hopes were so high for this game. It was the first monster taming game I actually fell in love with outside of pokemon, so much so that I actually tried pvp but it's just not for me and the updates I'd actually be interested in were few and far. I still pop on every so often, but I can't see myself really getting back into this game at this point unless they drop something major. 💔
"Stubborn to criticism" YES I had just such an interaction on their discord. I was trying to give feedback and got the response "we're not trying to be like Pokemon" when some ideas should be incorporated for the sake of FUN. It really soured my perception of the development team.
Not trying to be like pokemon? After making a pokemon-like game? What kind of nonsense is that? The whole reason Tem Tem even got noticed is because pokemon was and still in is such a horrible slump!
Yes this is what logical people would think. 😆 Well at least there's Palworld. But damn Temtem had a lot going for it. If only it made a few simple changes. I guess they don't want to appeal to the masses. Who knows. I'm just going to play Palworld at this point. That and rom hacks.
I got frustrated with the changes in the Tems. Trying to adjust the movesets with each patch and hoping my favorite Tem didn't get nerfed. My breaking point was Kauren switching to atk based to special atk. That hurt because my Kauren was on my squad from early on. I took the time to get the moves down and have her be a great teammate. I adjusted when other Tems got buffed or nerfed but this time enough was enough. I wanted a change from Pokemon but this became too much. That and my internet would sometimes not want to load the game and I missed out on events. Sorry for the long post but I was with the game since launch. I started playing games offline and it was nice. I may check out Temtem after a break but I got so miffed.
Temtem was fun, and a lot of neat ideas but their adamant will to not grow the game passed some seasonal content was the death of it for me. They hyped it up so much being this MMO experience and then they near 1.0 flat out came and said "No new islands, no new tems after 1.0" and taht pretty much killed any desire I had to grind anything in that game. Finished the story and sadly logged off and never returned.
Great video as always,Ed. You talked about the things that a lot of players wanted to say(including me.) Devs were pretty much ignoring players complains and just continued pushing their vision of game, despite being not really successful. They didn't even address the grind problem, which isn't that hard to tackle. I believe that players would continue supporting them financially if they listened to their recomendations. It's kinda sad to see the game in this state,it had lot of good ideas, combat, designs and story overall were pretty good.
Temtem walked so Palworld and other Monster Tamer games can run. Change is slow, but people are coming around to the concept of other monster games beyond Pokemon, Digimon, and Tamagotchi. And I do put that at the feet of Temtem, more than any game before or after it.
I was so interested in buying temtem last year but a few friends of mine dissuaded me from making that decision. For me, part of me likes the idea of a proper mmo similar to pokemon but at the same time, I realized I want more of a single player experience than a game I want to revisit every day like with certain free to play games! I am playing coromon now and this is what I wanted from a pokemon clone!
It's a real bummer for me too. I was aboard the Temtem Train from the word 'go' and... kind of... petered out because of the poison island's entire gimmick being so player hostile. But I really wanted the game to do well and go on to set a standard for Monster MMOs.
While I can appreciate its an MMO and requires "time" to move through, the brutality of suffering through the islands definitely did not give me the exploration vibes that Pokemon always was strong at
I always thought Pokémon wouldn't be able to work as an MMO, and while temtem definitely wants to be different it has suffered the exact kinds of issues I'd expect from an official PokéMMO
In that it mostly doesn't need to be an MMO. Temtem basically just has the same features you currently have in pokemon. The only real difference is that you see other players running around. But you can't actually do anything with other players without grouping up...but you can already do that in Scarlet/Violet anyway
I died because the devs simply don't care about the game. If they cared a lot they would be doing a ton to save it but they are just removing features and getting ready for a maintenance period then the shutdown.
If they didn't false ban so many people, might have had some players left. I still have zero idea why I got banned, and even streaming my entire playthrough with it all recorded wasn't enough evidence to show I wasn't using cheats.
Great video, I think sums up most of the sentiment of the community. And I got say, most of those problems are indeed because of the devs choices and stubbornness, at the 1.0 there was a huge influx of comments saying how bad the decision of not launching new Tems or Islands was, about how bad for a paid (and expensive for it's genre) game to have both battlepass AND a cosmetic paid store, which is a little better now but had a huge discrepancy of how much paid cosmetics were in the game to the free ones, and don't even get me started on the grind and PvE that people claimed for years and nothing comes out, but the devs will say that they add plenty of PvE content into the game. Aside of all that the constants discussions between the devs or the community manager with the people playing the game, with all boiling down to the devs being rude, condescending and banning people that had criticism of the game made all this into too much, even with the possible game coming out I don't expect to see many people buying into it because of how low the reputation of Crema is right now, I at least would not spend a dime on any game that Crema launch in the future and I would for sure not support them in a Kickstarter anymore.
Whenever people say 'they added tons of PvP' its so disingenuous IMO. the 1.5 patch which was the big pve patch added one route and raid Mon which was part of the kickstarter so always planned, it added easy mode for gym rematches, so not a new feature, it added rarer shines, which by that logic I can introduce 1 in a million shines and the game has 'endless content', they added randomizer mode which already existed but was tied to nuzlocke mode and just some qol. There's no fun end game pve loop. Tamers paradise can only be played once a day unless u wanna shell out money, raids give u the same egg over and over, shiny hunting is in almost every monster taming game, etc. I don't see the need for an mmo here. Seeing people in the ow is cool but not worth all the drawbacks
@@GymLeaderEd I had this same argument with the dev TMT on discord when I said that the game didn't had any major PvE update since launch and he said that the last update had lots of PvE features on it, they still don't seem to get that QOL or introducing already promised content from Kickstarter is not "new features", I made at least 4 or 5 threads on feedback and suggested content for mid and end-game content based on a lot of other games, even on PokeMMO which could be used by them for inspiration since their main feature is being a MMO, got some answers basically saying that they would look at it or the CM saying that the devs didn't had time to look at those threads and that was it, this is also something that was made clear with that whole "cam toggle" feature that they waited more than 6 months to add a feature that was already in the game and they removed because they wanted people to be forced to use a feature that many had motion sickness. It was really using MMO just for the marketing and to justify the live service features (battlepass, cosmetic shop) but never to add new content, it's really sad as a kickstarter supporter.
@@exocitus8731 I feel you, the first time I ever got any attention from anyone outside of the CM, was when I made a similar video to this one and one of the devs basically saw the title and said, 'I didn't watch the video, but...' almost every temtem creator has also quit covering it, the game piece, Millarz, zolrain, etc and many others have told me that they don't feel valued in the space. I cover the genre as a whole, so I wouldn't consider myself a temtem youtuber, but for the longest time, and even now, I'm by far the only bigger channel that takes the game seriously and feel like my concerns and critiques of the game have been overlooked as well, so I can definitely relate to your frustration. There's a lot of people here who hate the game unnecessarily, but people like us WANT the game to succeed. I made a post on official discord with 200 upvotes, which is incredible for something like discord and the only reply was the community rep saying they will reflect on it and taking a medical leave right after that. Worst part is that they messed up both pvp and pve since EA, most features in the game feel half-done with no real hope of them finishing them off, there isnt a single part of the game that actually makes up a reason for it to be a game as a service and I feel like it was a lazy excuse for advertisement and microtransaction. Somehow after 4 years crema still decides to not share at all their plans for the future and instead do incredibly pointless teasers that go nowhere. No one really has faith on crema anymore unless they change their ways substancially.
I wish it was just coop monster tamer, that's all I want. I hate the grind that comes along with it being an MMO. Coromon went on the right track with an acceptable amount of grind for me personally (with save resetting).
Not to mention what you had to do just to breed, especially if you wanted to do competitive. The amount of currency and time wasted was highly unessesary.
@@XxAnacondaViceX Yup, that whole ordeal is not something I care for. I do love min-maxing mainly for the variation in play styles but getting perfect evs/IVs (and other game's equivalent) are just a pain.
@@XxAnacondaViceX I think they did it this way specifically because they don't intend on adding actual pve content. Players must have been zooming through the game too fast.
I'm reminded of Path of Exile, a primarily PvE focused game with a tiny PvP side to it. The devs at one point tried to focus on PvP as they were old-school and enjoyed PvP in older games of the same genre, but realized quickly that the audience was too small and so they pivoted to large PvE content updates every couple of months and the game has seen massive and consistent success since.
Bethesda found out the same thing when they tried to focus on PVP in Fallout 76, only for them to backtrack on that a year later due to most of the playerbase working together as opposed to murdering on sight one another.
The main problem with Temtem is that it's a multiplayer game. While it does have some features that use this fact, I think it would be a better game if the resources that were put into these features were instead used to make it a single player.
Cool video, thanks ! and about 7:24 Yaw himself said he was clearly aware that umbra wouldn't bring people back. He always kind of despised his players anyway, never seemed to care about players numbers, and he said it loudly many times... ^^'
Wow, that certainly sounds like a dev people would want to give their money to. Sarcasm aside though, if he didn't care about the player numbers in the first place, then why the hell temtem is an mmo? You know, a kind of game that's success depends entirely on the amount of people who play it? Sounds like a waste of money for both the devs and the players lmao.
@ValeriaPaper It was a really confusing statement but yeah he did come into the discord and flat out said "we don't care about player numbers." He has also said about events (prior to them being removed from the game) that "if you don't like it just don't play it" and "we only added events because it was easy". Events are now being removed from the game because they didn't know what to do with them. He also has directly insulted players and posted screenshots of community members' messages to his private Twitter with mocking captions. When he got called out on it by a streamer (someone big enough to not get banned for speaking up), Yaw started making excuses saying it's a language barrier making him sound more rude than he is. (They will ban people for much much MUCH less claiming it was "passive-aggressive" or "rude") Seriously you can get warned on the discord for asking normal questions while the lead dev gets to call people clowns, ignorant and delusional. It's wild.
@@IceFireofVoid sheesh. I felt bad when i had to refund temtem back in early access days because of laptop issues, but now i feel like it's for the better.
I've said this before: Temtem needs to be single player. It can have online battles and trading even without the MMO aspect. It fails on being a MMO because you can't just team up to explore with several friends. The best you could do was having ONE friend with you and you were actively punished with less experience overall if you teamed up (I don't know if they ever fixed that). Also, MMOs need big updates CONSTANTLY. Meaning new areas and, yes, new MONSTERS, which is something they flat out refuse to do.
They did add bonus exp to your 3 unused tems during co-op when the game left early access. Co-op is still riddled with bugs though especially the challenge modes.
I'm not sure how much I am allowed to speak on this and I think it is important information to share. I've been in the community active on the Discord since the first stress tests. A consistent issue I noticed and the biggest thing standing in the way of progress is ego. Ego and this weird spitefulness/resentment that seems to come from those under the Crema banner. I've never before seen a community for any game where there was so much open hostility from the dev team. I always wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because the company is small and the game is ambitious, but over time, I can't find thr good will I was looking for. The same mistakes are being repeated over and over for 4 years now. The remaining players are being denigrated on a regular basis. I have seen Crema staff direct insults at specific players. Calling them clowns, ignorant, delusional...They vent about their disdain for their own consumerbase on their public socials. This sort of behavior is the main thing that prevents me from recommending the game. I can't in good conscience financially support people who are unwilling to deliver even the bare minimum while openly hating their own customers. It would take immense effort on Crema's part to regain trust from their hardcore players who have witnessed this pattern of behavior for years and seen it only get worse over time.
@DrawciaGleam02 I think this definitely contributed. A lot of the original popularity of Temtem in early access was people on the Pokemon hate bandwagon. I've been playing since the first stress tests and I honestly never thought the game was super good like it was fine and fun, but people were constantly going on about how it was "Pokemon but better" and put the game on this pedestal, ignoring all the flaws of the game just for the sake of having their Pokemon killer. People were just approaching the game from a place of willful ignorance. The timing of Temtem alongside Sword and Shield's dexit announcement was miraculous. I don't think Temtem would have ever caught on if it had come out at any other time. It all worked together to inflate the ego of the team working on the game, though afaik, it had always been pretty bad. Very early on there was a substantial problem with false bans and Crema firmly believed in their systems and did not even consider player appeals for a fairly long time. They would just respond with "you know why you were banned". And though false bans have not been a problem for a very long time, this attitude of "our systems are always right and the players are wrong" has persisted. It is still ongoing to this day with aspects of the game that are suspected by the players to not be working as intended, with a lot of documented information from the very dedicated members of the community, only for Crema to always respond with "our systems say it works so it works" despite many many many instances throughout the years of their systems in place being flat out incorrect.
Totally agree. When I backed the game, I expected an MMO with like...upgrades. But they were so focused on pvp which is always niche and nothing else post launch, which they didn't say till after kickstarter, that it was like...why should I keep playing it.
They already said (and I hope they don't change their mind) that when the servers shut down they will make it all offline, which many people are expecting to happen so that we can introduce mods into the game. Removing the annoying features or limits, making the game less grind, changing the radars and shiny hunting odds to be similar to Pokemon (1/4096) and making all the paid cosmetics into free cosmetics with mods will do wonders to this game.
@@snintendog When and where was this? The last couple times that people asked they explicit said that if the servers shut down they would make it playable offline.
@@exocitus8731 right after EA launch on steam forums. They got effing mad over all the questions and wishes for an Offline mode. Was big news for a while.
Man, the first playthrough of TemTem felt so fun back in its early release day. The anticipation of a new island to unlock. But now it's all so dull. I tried to revisit temtem and do the randomlocke, and they don't even let you use mounts until the end and nothing to increase movement speed. I hadn't played the game since. It's regrettable to see its potential squandered.
yeah I loved Temtem, I played really hardcore for a bit that I have like over a thousand hours but I'm a PVE player so it ended up being really sloggy that there was sorta nothing to do, especially solo since none of my friends wanted to do the 50+ hour story so they could do the 100+ hour grind of end game with me :/ It felt like I had to really knuckle down in the PVP to do anything outside it and eventually I just gave up when nothing else came out.
Looking at other comments, I feel super out of place but Temtem was the first game ever in the monster tamer genre because I never owned any consoles.. at the time this was the only game that (to my knowledge) was on PC. I saw Pokemon TV series as a kid, and my biggest wish was to do what Ash did, compete against others. So I guess you can say I'm the "small fraction" of the Temtem player base as it has drawn me in mostly because of online PvP. I know Pokemon Showdown exists, but that's just a browser game there are no animations or anything it's super bare bones and I can't get over that.. I love the visuals of Temtem, far better than any Pokemon game I've seen so that combined with online PvP that is available on PC is great mixture for me. But from all these comments I see that people don't want this stuff in Temtem at all which makes me really sad, I do a lot of luma/umbra hunting as well but I'm collecting them so I can show them off in PvP matches not for the sake of collection. My biggest issue with the game are the game breaking bugs and the ones that impact the game very negatively on the PvP and in 2023 we had almost every patch come out with those, and they took a very long time to fix
People do want the PvP. That's not the issue. The issue is that they neglected all the other aspects of the game for the sake of PvP, while also disrespecting their PvP players. They failed to grow the game organically and it screwed over everyone. PvP is always a tiny fraction of these sorts of games and the active players won't grow until you grow the whole game first. They refused to see this. On a side note, if you were ever active on the discord, the community manager would deliberately say things to make the PvE and PvP players dislike each other and not want to talk. I have a screenshot somewhere of her telling the PvP chat that what they are complaining about is actually loved by people in the other chats. This was a blatant lie. Everyone had been complaining about the same things. The PvE people thought we were being sidelined for the PvP golden children. The PvP players thought the same of us. Turns out they were just listening to nobody and respected nobody.
I still like temtem and thing its a fun game, but the push towards pvp was a bit much for the average. But I wouldnt mind keeping an eye out on it cause they may add some stuff now that its not quite as big as it was previously. Overall though its still fun but im just too busy with all these games coming out 😂.
Aww. I'm sad to hear that Temtem didn't survive its launch. But yeah, as an outsider Temtem was always a MMO. How do you have a MMO without new PvE updates? That's highly illogical. And it sounds like the developers just didn't want to add more PvE content, opposed to NOT being able to. I hope they release a Temtem 2 in the future and tone down on the MMO aspects; clearly they aren't able to support a MMO. But the designs of the monsters and the trainers were nice. Though I never truly loved the art style of Temtem. Maybe they should go for a more anime aesthetic. Or maybe more realistic proportions for the humans.
I put 300 hours in, I'm satisfied with my time, but it was dead right as they said no more PvE. 95% of the players prefer it. What did they expect? If they released a $15 expansion with more islands, tems, and stuff to do that would keep me busy for another couple hundred hours I'd easily buy
I feel bad because I was really excited for Temtem, and you're one of the people that introduced me to it, I honestly should thank you for these other monster taming/creature collecting games I never knew existed.
As someone who just recently got to play it, I hope it gets either more content or another game. The script for some of the Temtem tamer bots is hilarious. " You don't know your own name? That's stupid. Let's kick her ass! " 😂
ALSO as someone who loves monster collecting games I'm super excited to sub! ^^ I didn't know about this channel until now and it makes me super happy to see this genre growing and being filled out. I love Pokemon as much as the next guy but it doesn't always scratch the itch I want
I'm honestly really sad about TemTem. It felt like everything I wanted in a Pokemon MMO, but then it leaned into all the things I disliked about Pokemon. It double downed on IV's super-super-hard, and the fertility thing was just disgusting in how it limited your breeding abilities. It all forced, _FORCED_ , you to go down the route of PVP and made PVE only players suffer because they-or at least, I-felt like they were playing a PVE game in a PVP world. I've said this about so many monster taming games, and I'll say it here: If grabbing your monsters is the hardest part of the process you're doing it wrong. That should be the easiest. Getting your cool looking, powerful, little guy feels great but if getting them is the ENTIRE process then your game means nothing once you have it. If getting it is just the start, it pushes the barrier to entry to near impossible standards. Temtem is no exception in this. The game's pvp should be revolved around strategy, knowledge, and out-thinking your opponent. Yet if you wanted your perfect cool-lookin Tem, you're basically given limited chances. Fertility doesn't just drain your parent, it makes your child less fertile too? The whole game feels like it's abritrarily choking me in a vice grip because PVP is a thing that exists. You can tell me "You don't need it in single player" but who cares, every little bit of gameplay this game has still feels like I'm being choked simply because of all the PVP they're trying to push. It _FEELS_ like I'm running around in a PVP world that begrudgingly has PVE. Also, as a counterargument to that idea, this is an MMO. Why ISN'T there raids and end game content that would need nearly max-stat Tems to handle with players? In EVERY _SUCCESSFUL_ MMO that I know of the game has you get the BEST THINGS to fight the HARDEST CONTENT, why is this game treated like it's a Pokemon-at-home pve session? Why is it "so easy dude, just play it casually." Why can't I be hardcore about this game as a PVE player. Why is there no content that truly rewards this in a way players find enjoyable. If you say there is, the numbers don't like: There isn't. If there is, there isn't _enough_ of it, not even close. It's moments like these where I'm glad a game died. I am saddened for the players who worked hard on the game and love it, but it's a message that needs to be sent out to other games. Make a game that's fun, that's accessible, and listen to people when they ask for things. Make a game for the people who buy it, not a game that has to be your vision or bust. Swallow some pride sometimes, and make a game everyone wants to play rather than just you.
Fertility is appropiate, is still works as an MMO, the Auction House and the Temtem Market works BECAUSE the fertility system limits you. There is no hacking in Temtem but 0 reasons to remove fertility only to have everyone own 1 perfect Mimit, and breed perfects with it, now that´s boring and pointless for a game that plays like an MMO. The problems with the game come from totally different places and reasons.
@gicrueldad9520 While I cannot say more than I have experience-alongside my friends-it's how I felt when I played the game. It felt like a PvP world that was holding me by the neck to play it by its PvP rules. I cannot deny that its been a while since I played the game, and thus my opinions come from a very out-of-date era, but the game fell flat to me because of how much it restricted the bare stats to incredibly painful grindy nonsense to dump money into breeding. It just felt very hallow. I do understand that the Fertility needs to exist because of how the game functions, but the game is holding itself to leaning into all the flaws Pokemon had instead of becoming something new and its own. Maybe I'm a minority, but *going through an arbitrary process to get your random values all maximized* doesn't feel like fun growth in which I challenge myself to get better things to challenge myself to get better things, it feels like a crossbreed between a chore and hitting my head against a wall. I'm not saying Fertility should exist in this game, because the game was built for it to exist, but rather I'm saying the game's foundation/fundimentals are already flawed. At least with a game like Coromon, the shinies are tied to the IV's, so by unlocking more stats you also unlock skins. I feel like if TemTem went a route similar to that, at least cross breeding with this type of system could have at least felt like you were unlocking a brand new design in the process making it worth it more than stats.
So, something I've been thinking about. Umbras. Did anyone see any hype videos about umbras? They were just kinda there one day. I really think that shows how much genuine interest there was in the game at that time. Plus the odds were insane, like im pretty sure it was 1/75000 or something like that. On top of an already grindy game.
They were talked a lot about on the Discord for over a year before they got added but yeah Crema is really really bad at advertising. They just don't do any promoting at all. They don't promote sales, they don't promote upcoming features. In the few cases where they tell us anything, it is super vague cryptic teasers that frustrate people instead of hype them.
I think a big issue with temtem is they made an MMO but dont wanna treat it like an MMO. No plans for expansions or new tems and they still charged about $60 CAD for the base game while charging for battle passes and not offering any offline mode because "its an MMO" they also are not doing any events anymore. I dont know what they think an MMO is.
They need to stop with only updates really, being moves added and removed from tems pools to keep pvp "fresh", there was nothing for casual players outside of challenge modes, no bigger thing to do after the story if you didn't like to pvp part from breeding and shiny hunting but that gets stale super fast. And the fact the even rarer shinies are legit just purple smokey was not worth the wait, it really was not. Add a battle frontier or something that changes out every week or month, something for those who don't want to just pvp. Also they need to stop increasing the price on shop items, the angel wings were legit 1100 novas but was changed to 2200 novas the 3rd time it was placed in the shop rotation, that is greedy as heck
Ive been saying this alot but ill say it again. The reason temtem as a mmo doesn't work is because crema made it to be a single player experience first and mmo second then focus the ladder. Mmos can only work if you are constantly updating the game with new content which is what crema is not doing. They are focusing too much on the balance or the competitive scene than the game that people paid for.
The only problem I see with the game is that it is neither a single player game nor an MMO but it has components of both concepts that weigh each other down. As a single player game, it's very cool until you finish the story and the MMO economy limits everything you can do. On the other hand, as an MMO game, there is no new content that encourages you to return to the game. And expanding content was very easy, they simply had to design a new archipelago and claim that due to new advances in aeronautics, signs of their existence had been found or that what happened at the end of history caused them to be discovered by another archipelago and that this archipelago invaded them or something like that... Or an expedition that seeks to descend to investigate the state of the surface.
Yeah, Ed typically knwos what he is talking about in Monstertaming, but that whole claim of leading to these other better games is comepletely unfounded. Temetm got a sizable initial hype, but then quickly fell off over time in both reputation and attention. And it was initially successful but absoluetlely nothing suggests it cteated a opening or inspiration for any of those other games from my knowledge, espically Palworld.
I spent 250 hrs in temtem through out its early access eras, but when 1.0 came out I only played until I finished the story. If they ever make another monster taming game that put more focus into single player experience I would definitely play it again. I truly believe they have some great ideas and great monster designs.
Tbh I was getting so much fun from it a year ago, bought one of the battlepasses and found my self in a situation where the battle pass missions would only unlock after finishing story, which meant that if i wanted to get everything in the battlepass I had to rush the story, instead of enjoying it at my own pace, even capturing every temtem i could to max the exp over a weekend wasnt enough of a pace to get all of the BP rewards, which basically threw me off the game permanently since. I must have just a few more dojos before the endgame, but honestly I have no intention of playing the game after getting ripped off like that.
While I've never played Temtem, it did look like a fun game. A problem I see with most monster-taming games is most people only want to support it because they want Pokemon to have competition. Competition can help, but by this point, it's just too late for anyone to go against Pokemon. Most people only supported Temtem because it looked like a Pokemon killer. From what it sounds like, Temtem never wanted that, and when the game didn't have the fight people were looking for they abandoned ship. People should support a game because it's fun, not something that will kill Pokemon. That's just my thoughts on the matter.
I finally played TemTem last year and its pretty alright, all the battles being double battles helped it feel more strategic than most monster taming games, but at the same time the stamina system hurt the difficulty a lot, get a Tem with a stamina drain skill and you're set for all of the game. I played over 50% of it co-op a friend and that was really fun, something I wish pokemon would do in a colosseum-like game. Can't comment on the end game since I stopped at the end, but it didn't seem very inviting for a casual-ish player.
from the gen3 or 4 to gen7 after finishing the game you can challenge the battle tower/battle tree in solo, duo and multi allowing you to play coop with a friend it was really fun and the challenge was pretty hard since the difficulty increase every 10 victory in row. @@selectioncrescimento
I feel like they handicapped themselves by outright saying that no new exploration zones or temtems would ever be added to the game. That's not something an MMO or a game that states that it is an MMO does. I did enjoy my time with Temtem, but there isn't anything for a PvE player like me to DO in the game after the story is beaten. I don't chase lumas because of the time commitment needed to even get them to show up and PvP is far beyond my meager skill level when I needed to look up guides on how to defeat the dojo masters on repeat for the paltry amount of pansuns they give. I have full teams of temtems leveled to 100 for more stuff that will never come to the game. In raids you don't even use your team, which I find completely baffling because these sorts of games are suppose to be about the monster tamer working in tandem with their team of monster friends to overcome obstacles. What is the point when I get randomly assigned a team of temtems in a raid? The elimination of events just feels like the game is winding down. It's pretty sad to see the game in its current state. The devs could have done so much with the concept, but hard focusing on PvP isn't it. We have seen multiple games even outside of the monster taming genre do this. Guild Wars 2 attempted to make their PvP modes an esport back in 2013 and it completely failed. PvP has its niche especially in Pokemon-esque titles like Temtem, but they should had made an effort to balance that with more PvE content to keep the casual playerbase playing.
I've dabbled in both major aspects of the game (PVE/PVP) and I wanted to discuss a few points you made around pvp. The whole pay2win concern is something I can get from the developer standpoint, although you're entirely right that it was a bit of a cop out- the insane prices they charge for cosmetics with effectively no content being added to the game, they could have at least attempted to add a few creatures every season or so. Also, the whole 'but it's cross platform! Concurrent players aren't accurate" Yeah we know it's not entirely accurate, but it paints a picture and we can make realistic assumptions to what the playerbase is like. Not to mention certain members of crema refusing to budge on problems that nearly every player (from both major gameplay styles) agree is a problem. I do believe some of the balancing changes that are added are healthy for the game (Oceara losing water blade, vulffy losing sludge gift, etc.), although a lot of people voice complaints over losing tools. People voiced enough complaints to where the updates adjusting stuff also hurts PvP directly now, so no one is actually getting meaningful content anymore. The game being insanely buggy since 1.4, and 1.5 being horrendous effectively killed the PvP playerbase due to crema not adjusting anything, and not looking for bugs and such. There's so much more to talk about, but this unfortunate outcome is something Crema did entirely to themselves, and I hope they learn to improve from it. I doubt many people are going to return to games they create after the disaster that Temtem's life cycle was.
I always felt like Temtem wanted to be that more serious, harder pokemon but either nerfed or didn't include the things that made pokemon fun to play. And then games like Nexomon Extinction, Coromon, and Anode Hearts comes out and are just way more fun to play and less of a pain to get to the things people want to do. Also being a MMO with no good MMO features was probably a bad idea lol
I think an offline mode would be nice. The main problem for me is the eventual shutdown. When that happens, i will lose everything i worked hard for, so i dont even bother getting that stuff if i dont have a way to keep it like i have with pokemon usum and pokemon Bank. I know pokemon bank will close shortly, but i think there will be or already is a fan version of bank that can either be on a fan run server or can work from within the 3ds
Im still mad they nerfed pigepic. They thought it was "uncompetitive" to have a mon with no attacking moves.... THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT IT'S STATS ARE BASED AROUND IT'S A SUPPORT TEM!
Every once in a while I try to go back to temtem, but when I get to the second island it gets so boring catching new tems since they will take so long to evolve since the level up only starts counting after the catch. I always thought that was pretty dumb
If you're on second island you have access to the breeding center. If you breed a wild tem and use the level 1 baby, it will evolve earlier than the wild tems. Breeding is also skewed to favor the higher stats so on average the baby will be better than its parents.
@@IceFireofVoid that's exactly what I do for a while, but it gets incredibly boring having to level up from level 1 everytime I want a new guy on my team
@@IceFireofVoidi dislike when games force you to breed. I want the creature I caught first to be my friend and ride with them to the end of the game. The appeal for me of the entire genre is the born you create. I saw this creature and wanted it, not to go off and breed it and then ditch it because it’s too annoying to evolve it normally. I forgot they had that style of evolution too 🙄
i saw ya tweet about this earlier so i downloaded it(Switch Ver.) and gave it another try. months before i played it and it kept saying cant connect to server or something so i gave up. now today i played it and it felt the same like went it released on switch...it was good then it crashed so i restated it and now when i go to continue it just black screen but the audio still plays sooo yea. which is sad cuz i wanted this game to be Great but oh well
I have well over 2000 hours in temtem. The bloated end game has a bunch of different modes that let you battle for meaningless grinds. The PvP aspect of the game and Luma (shiny) hunting became the only real endgame. The game needs more real content, not reskinned modes of "Here something that isn't your team". The leveling of the game is the best part of it. -TemtemTebow
The offline mode sounds exactly like what this game needs. Never really cared for the MMO elements and the coop tag team stuff just made me prefer having two of my own temtems out.
When it comes to the Events I'm just glad that they removed them. Yes, it is sad for not getting items you have to work for, but every Event had the same tasks we already have to do for Weekly Quests with no variation what so ever. The only good quest was the one where you had to search for Event-related objects across the Archipelago. Also there were only 50 Points (one small quest) to spare which they only did so non PvP players could get all rewards, yet I suggested way back then that 100 points would be better, so everyone has the choice to skip either 2 small or one middle quests. I cannot speak for the PvE community, but even the PvP scene (which is small like you mentioned, but it's still worth noting) is dying. After TemCS a lot of the longterm players dropped, they announced it beforehand, so this was a decision made way before Crema made a post of not doing a 2nd TemCS. I stopped playing PvP since 1.3 which came out in March, so nearly a year ago. The first PvP related bugs started to show up, and I said to sit the season out as I don't enjoy a match if bugs deciding the outcome, especially if you don't know if your opponent is aware of them. Now, seasons over seasons while they have patched the bugs (where people have to wait weeks, even months due to certification processes) more and more showed up, with more and more people dropping, especially with the Koish bug we had last season which even split the PvP community even further (some live with the bugs and others were so intensely against them that they started to call those players out). By checking the TMR dumps you can also see that in Season 3 (bugs first showing up) and Season 5 (Bugged Koish made people quit) far less players have played ranked. Hopes were always there that we would get a season without a single bug. Only to discover that the devs are not interested in a health patch.
I feel that if they addressed some of the minor issues that are recurring, like constant crashing for Switch users and adding some sort of “offline” mode would bring a lot of people back, but there’s definitely so much more on the back burner that has to change to really make it long term viable again
To be honest, I loved Temtem (I backed it and have played since the early alphas) but Crema did a terrible job at taking in feedback on topics that matter. Crema made so many terrible decisions design-wise such as sacrificing gameplay for "economy" and basically serving the game dead on arrival due to their take on new content. If Crema listened to the playerbase, I genuinely believe the game could have laster much longer. Temtem truly had phenomenal potential. If you aren't going to deliver on the MMO aspect, then don't gut the player experience for a bullshit "economy". Said economy, that is still worse than any other MMO I have ever played. Don't even get me started on YaW (main dev). They have outed themselves as a shitty dev multiple times. I will not support Crema moving forward and I suggest anyone who is interested in either Temtem or Crema's future endeavors take a look into the way they talk about their playerbase.
I was considering trying this game out since it came out during the Monster Taming drought, but my friend played it and said it was way to stingy with it's currency so just being able to do the catching part was grindy and that got rid of any interest in the game.
I was interested in TemTem since it's release but never got around to buying it until it showed up on Humble Monthly, I gave it a try then and playing through the main story felt like a total slog, events and new features weren't available since I was doing the story, I was getting constant trainer battles and instead of discovering new TemTem or evolutions myself I was seeing them through the wave of trainers. I can't remember the story so I can't say anything about that but it couldn't have been interesting if I literally cannot remember it.
It's a shame. I haven't dug too deep into other monster taming games (due to limited funds and time), but I love so much about Temtem. The biggest things are the double battles, the stamina system, and (most importantly) the Temtem designs themselves. I haven't finished the game yet, but there has only been one design so far that I dislike. If this game was offline and had some kind of battle tower, it would have been perfect for me. I am also looking into Monster Sanctuary and Monster Hunter Stories 2 because they also check those boxes, but Temtem was something special. I'll always be grateful for what it did for the Monster Taming genre.
I spent 50-60 hours on this game 3 years ago, but when I got to the end game (at the time), I realized how ridiculous the grind was. I just wanted to max my Temtem's levels and casually have fun while having my own house, but the game demanded that I needed to be super hyper focused and serious about grinding with it. The end result really left a sour taste and I never really got the urge to play it again, even with the twitch drops, holiday events and temtem showdown stuff.
Knowing there will never be any new teams killed it for me. Even 5 per year would give something to look forward toward. Otherwise it's just become a aesthetic collector
You are right, as far as Creature Catching games are concerned, Temtem does look pretty good with a large amount of potential. I do like the solid coloring that this particular Creature Catching game has. I hope the indie devs take a second look at things but then again like you said they've gotten a large amount of sales. Thanks so much for that update on The Creature Catching scene because we gotta catch 'em all 🤙
it sucks to hear because temtem had such a great basis at first and they really could have gone far but they just didnt choose the right outcomes. now after the story theres nothing left for most players, not exactly an mmo. like it should have been.
legit question, and i guess this is not the best way to ask the question and it would be better as a poll, but how many people here are just only keeping an eye on temtem waiting for them to backtrack on all their bad decisions and actually add things players want like new expansions and updates? because i used to love this game and im just waiting for them to take advantage of the potential they have right infront of them.
I want to see how far Crema can go before they can't run away from their own mistakes anymore. How much longer can they make excuses and how much longer can they blame the community for everything they themselves have done wrong?
6 months later so mb but- I feel like when their new project flops (the top down wave killer with temtem) they’ll want to go back and try to squeeze more out of Temtem or make a Temtem 2
Starting with the infamous waves of BANS without justification (no negative feedback allowed and luma rates abnoxiously low made people grind the same spot for hours, than banned as "bots"), the lies about the state of ingame economy "oh its EA, will be balanced on release" BS premium currency and battle passes, the consistent arrogance and disdain toward the community members that aren't "yes men" and dare to say something else, the pvp obcession and wet dream of making it a tamer e-sport COME ON....... from Humbleness to Atrocious Arrogance, the perfect recipe to crash down and burn their reputation. Also Crema stop pitching it as a mmo....... thats false advertising. Its a single player game with tacked on co-op (kinda like dead space 3) and each island is a Glorified Lobby. That alone is lightyears aways from even being a barebones mmo......
A big part of Temtem’s decline is being an MMO with none of the benefits and all of the detriments. I hope that the devs add an offline lobby at least sometime for those who wish to continue the game.
My problem with the game and why I quickly gave up was the insufferable long routes, and that my starter TemTem never evolved... I think I was approaching level 30 or something (It has been a while, so I don't fully remember, but it was an unreasonable amount of levels). People claimed the game was "Pokemon but actually hard" yet the difficulty just came from the Death by a thousand stings. Every encounter was easy, but there was just so freaking many of them that of course I was gonna eventually collapse...
I actually ever noticed this game came out, hopefully the game doesn't die out too soon, I actually would like to play it. But I desperately want an offline mode.
This makes me think of the pet battle system in WoW. I can find npc and such to pet battle with, but i can't for the life of me find any other players. I spent 1 hour in the pet battle match thing 2 separate times and it could not find anyone to match me with
As someone interested in TemTem until I saw that it was basically an always online title, I really hoped that there would be a single-player version or offline version. I only played it for a bit but I would love the ability to play it without needing to be connected to the internet and just relaxing in another monster taming game.
Good vid. I've had my fun with Temtem, and if they produced a PvE expansion or a sequel, I'd probably go back and give it a shot. That said, I'm overall very disappointed with Temtem and Crema, it feels like there is so much wasted potential. Its a great example of a dev stubbornly refusing to give their community what they ask for, and their game just continually declining as a result. And honestly, as far as it being an MMO goes, I think that was some misleading marketing.
Bought it on switch and enjoyed it but the requirement of it being online is its own worst enemy. Give me the option to login for dailies and certain features that provide exceptional rewards and on the flip side have those same modes be available offline with similar rewards just make it a little grindy. Offline mode is literally a way to save the game rn
You're 100% right in it needing to focus on pve. As a person that gets into pvp, the place i usually start in is obviously the pve. I got into competitive pokemon first by doing things like battle frontier and wanting to learn and breed the best 'mons then eventually using them myself in competition. You NEED to have a solid pve community because if your pve is good, a small portion of them will eventually want to delve deeper into the mechanics and that may lead them down the pvp path.
I haven't even cleared the story on this because I was hoping there to be a focus on PVE content like Raids or even dungeons maybe. Then when it came out fully, I saw the battle pass and my mind just went "ugh..." so right now it's there, waiting for me to finish it. I'll likely restart the whole thing when I bother picking it up again.
Huh. I did no research since I wasn’t particularly interested in it at release but totally thought it was a single player experience rather than an MMO/live service type game. If it was more single player focused I might actually get it now since I lately have a passing interest but I’m less curious when I started hearing the phrase “battle pass” thrown around.
I still think making Temtem an always-online game was a massive mistake. I understand that it came from a need for a Pokémon MMO, but if anything it proves that an always-online Pokémon game adds next to nothing to the formula besides lame monetization schemes. Playing Temtem only made me want to play Pokémon again, which I did for hundreds of hours. I think there's one simple thing they need to do to succeed somehow, which they won't: an offline mode. Better yet, shut down the servers and make Temtem a purely offline single-player experience with maybe some optional P2P co-op to make more sense of the 2v2 battles and online trading a la Pokémon's GTS. This would have to come with major rebalancing of the economy and, God forbid, cosmetics that you can acquire just by playing the game that don't cost a leg and and an arm, but that's sure to bring a lot more people back. At this point though, if I want a linear story-driven monster-taming game in a 3D environment, I'll go back to gen 7 Pokémon. I know it's controversial, but I had a lot more fun with gen 7 than I did Temtem.
Whatever they do next, I hope they carry this IP forward. I know Palworld is fresh in everyone's minds, but I would unironically enjoy a Palworld clone in the style of Temtem. Lots of cool stuff you could do with Temtem's universe.
The concept and potential were so high. It was one of the games I was most hyped about when I finally got my hands on a PS5. I loved this game until I realized how repetitive the grind was. I keep wanting to get back to it but I just haven’t.
good timing, I was just considering trying Temtem finally. I'm really not into MMOs or PVP so I've put it off might be a good time to jump in and experience the single-player stuff lol
You were right about theres nothing for us PVE players after postgame, aside from the absurd cooldowns in tamer paradise, theres no new goal other than just beating the elites over and over again for feathers which just..sucks as a non pvp player who doesnt have a super optimized team and just playing through the campaign, i played temtem as early as closed alpha and seeing how the game is now compared to then makes me sad, i love the game, really, but i wish for it to be better. i havent touched it since i beat the story, if you want me to grind, make it fun...please.
You should team up with Josh Strife Haydes to make a larger video on Temtem
as someone who outside of this plays fighting games, I say this: never underestimate the power of a sequel. Nick All Star Brawl and Granblue Fantasy Versus can attest to this. So I hope any updates the devs do have, if they are making another monster taming game, I hope it's Temtem 2, not an update of current Temtem.
@@FoolsGil I've been told they don't want to make a sequel, but honestly I'd prefer them start fresh at this point lol
The teaser looked like an easy to monetize mobile game using the TemTem IP.
@@LeoBeastmode yeah, even as an mmo, always consider having it just in case
So basically just take Temtem and remove the only thing that makes it better than Pokémon, the mmo. Bad idea

Yeah that was what made me lose interest on Temtem, sadly. They keep pushing and pushing away PVE and I just overall stopped u-u

True, even more so when the game is so expensive to begin with.
That's something I mentioned in a previous video, it feels like it takes all the cons of an mmo with next to none of the pros
You're going to buy it at all? lol
Can't say I blame you.

TBH I don't think it would've lasted this long if it wasn't MMO.
@@Raidenze ...I fail to see your point. You can check out and replay an offline game at any time you'd want, what would it need to "last" for?
@@kai0318 The cruel reality of games is that generally speaking, online games will always make more money than offline games, and mobages will earn most of all the online games. and as soon as the servers shut down this game is unplayable. They wanted to made an MMO without regular updates and new stuff to add for the content. GREAT idea
If this was a "normal offline single player game" i would happily jumped on it.
If Temtem is falling is their own fault, they need a lot more content, more Temtems and maps instead of what they have been focusing on
Yup. More content? More battle passes anyone? 🙃
Esportifying a game has never made it better and when all they do is listen to the hardcore pvp crowd they lose everyone else.

Huh.
So honestly I'm almost happy they didn't keep adding new monsters and locations, I'd much prefer they take what they learned and make a new game while keeping that in mind
I also strongly believe that MMOs are way more suited to PvE content than PvP
The story is boring???
I thought it was Pokemon X Sonic SatAM???
Which I thought was cool....
Ouch... I got excited about the umbras, but being postgame just ruins it.
It would be really fun to encounter one of them and play with it.
Shame.

Crazy that Temtem was heralded as a Pokemon killer and faltered, while Palworld was largely ignored and is on FIRE saleswise.
@@DrawciaGleam02 I think it helps that Palworld isn't going quite the Pokemon route. It feels more like Ark when I play, with the ability to fight and catch the creatures. Literally the issue I had with Pokemon when I still used to play. At least there it didn't feel super grindy. But because of the grind in Temtem, I feel like I have to stick with what I'm using.
-Game world is mostly hallways, directing players down a narrow path that they end up using only a handful of times
-Players constantly pulled into instanced battles, removing them from the people and world around them
-No incentive for players to do activities together casually or spontaneously, you need to be invited to a co-op group and that was just one additional player, I think. The rest is competitive endgame stuff
-Too beholden to Pokemon's systems to its detriment. For example, EVs and IVs were designed to be hidden mechanics; Pokemon only works with those these days since a total refactor of how stats work would be too disruptive for relatively little benefit.
-Shiny hunting does not qualify as content. Nothing for players to DO that's not PvP or story progression
And a whole lot more that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I've never played TemTem so maybe I am missing some context but do you think that monster taming games shouldn't have IVs and EVs?
You are right. the devs are straight up crap. They are ban happy and don't want their game to flourish clearly. They are removing content and its looking like they will shut down within the year. 300 players right now is sad.

While I feel like you’re 100% right on everything you just said in your comment, you probably went about telling them the wrong way

It really soured my perception of the development team.
not trying to be like pokemon, but makes the core gameplay and endgame content basically exactly like pokemon.
I liked the concept of Iridescence. Oh well...
You talked about the things that a lot of players wanted to say(including me.)
Devs were pretty much ignoring players complains and just continued pushing their vision of game, despite being not really successful.
Even if they add big pve stuff now, I don't think it'll do much, especially if there aren't any island or temtem added
@@GymLeaderEdTamer’s Paradise can only be played once per week* you get one ticket for each activity there PER WEEK. But other than that. Very accurate comment :) Geat vid as always
@@GymLeaderEd Meanwhile crema still thinks the game is perfect and that the negative criticism is toxicity.
@ValeriaPaper
It was a really confusing statement but yeah he did come into the discord and flat out said "we don't care about player numbers."
He has also said about events (prior to them being removed from the game) that "if you don't like it just don't play it" and "we only added events because it was easy".
(They will ban people for much much MUCH less claiming it was "passive-aggressive" or "rude")
Seriously you can get warned on the discord for asking normal questions while the lead dev gets to call people clowns, ignorant and delusional. It's wild.
@@ValeriaPaper he also said many times that even if temtem is marketed as MMO it's not a MMO... Yeah lol okay.
Yikes.....
@@DrawciaGleam02yikes is right. Mods on social platforms have gone over their head with power.
@@zephyrias
I wonder if the "Pokemon killer" claims made Crema's ego blow up to a state where it's just insufferable.
@@IceFireofVoid
"our systems say it works so it works"
Oh, GOD! It's Todd's "It Just Works" all over again!!!

Totally agree. When I backed the game, I expected an MMO with like...upgrades. But they were so focused on pvp which is always niche and nothing else post launch, which they didn't say till after kickstarter, that it was like...why should I keep playing it.
I would like to see a offline update if the game dieing
Unfortunately you probably won’t get it and when servers shut down you’ll have to say goodbye to your little monsters
@@exocitus8731 Nope devs already confirmed in a heated rant that they will NEVER make it offline even after it dies.
It's regrettable to see its potential squandered.
throwing the softlock in at the end was COLD 💀
LOL it wasn't on purpose the game legit did that when I was recording footage 😭
Crema needs the hard truth!
yeah I loved Temtem, I played really hardcore for a bit that I have like over a thousand hours but I'm a PVE player so it ended up being really sloggy that there was sorta nothing to do, especially solo since none of my friends wanted to do the 50+ hour story so they could do the 100+ hour grind of end game with me :/ It felt like I had to really knuckle down in the PVP to do anything outside it and eventually I just gave up when nothing else came out.
Overall though its still fun but im just too busy with all these games coming out 😂.
fair enough lol
My wife and I co-oped the entire game I really hope if it goes online there's at least a lan option I'd be really sad to lose that experience.
Why is it "so easy dude, just play it casually."
Why can't I be hardcore about this game as a PVE player.
It's the right rate indeed but as you can also buy radars for them, they're just not really rare.
My daughter and I just started playing yesterday, so these videos are really helpful! We’ve been loving the game so far, her favorite is Scarawatt 😅.
I’m so glad I found Ed’s channel. Thank you for what you do!
Played it way back for a few hours and just couldn't get hooked. Now with Palworld, I don't ever see myself logging back in
The only problem I see with the game is that it is neither a single player game nor an MMO but it has components of both concepts that weigh each other down.
I can say with almost 100% certainty that temtem had nothing to do with the funding of palworld. The story is already documented.
Can't comment on the end game since I stopped at the end, but it didn't seem very inviting for a casual-ish player.
in previous pokemon title you can play the battle tower in coop, but since the last pokemon games its no more a feature...

They have confirmed on facebook that they will not be adding an expansion.
I hope they actually would make a single player patch rather than just shutting down the game like some conpanies have done in the past
I always thought that was pretty dumb
i forgot about that lol
I forgot they had that style of evolution too 🙄
@@elvickRULES There's also an item called a minimonolith that lets you instantly evolve a tem
i saw ya tweet about this earlier so i downloaded it(Switch Ver.) and gave it another try. months before i played it and it kept saying cant connect to server or something so i gave up. now today i played it and it felt the same like went it released on switch...it was good then it crashed so i restated it and now when i go to continue it just black screen but the audio still plays sooo yea. which is sad cuz i wanted this game to be Great but oh well
I have well over 2000 hours in temtem.
6 months later so mb but-
I feel like when their new project flops (the top down wave killer with temtem) they’ll want to go back and try to squeeze more out of Temtem or make a Temtem 2
I'm really not into MMOs or PVP so I've put it off
might be a good time to jump in and experience the single-player stuff lol
You were right about theres nothing for us PVE players after postgame, aside from the absurd cooldowns in tamer paradise, theres no new goal other than just beating the elites over and over again for feathers which just..sucks as a non pvp player who doesnt have a super optimized team and just playing through the campaign, i played temtem as early as closed alpha and seeing how the game is now compared to then makes me sad, i love the game, really, but i wish for it to be better. i havent touched it since i beat the story, if you want me to grind, make it fun...please.
yeah this video is pretty damn accurate, good job Ed
