    I came across these videos just by chance and am enjoying them. To get a glimpse into Helens' extraordinary life leaves me speechless . What an AMAZING lady she was!!! I don't remember hearing about Polly,all these years I thought it was Anne Sullivan by her side . 2 WONDERFUL women giving their lives to ensure Helen was able to live thank you Anne & Polly for your love & devotion to Helen!!❤

    People always used to ask Helen if she closed her eyes when she went to sleep. She would reply "I don't know, I've never stayed awake long enough to notice." 😊
    I know she enjoyed reading at night, especially her Bible. Something most of us can't do without a flashlight.
    I love Helen's smile and I really appreciate these videos! Thank you.
    I'm sure it was and is a novelty to see such a famous woman doing such simple tasks as wiping the dishes but for Helen it wasn't. Even before she learned what a word was, her dear mother taught her how to fold and put away her own clothes. Helen always enjoyed being busy around the house. She and Polly were such good friends and I'm sure it was a comfort to Annie that neither Helen or Polly would be alone when she passed ❤

    Helen's love and simplicity for life and her good mood radiates through her entire life, like she's some realized arhat and one who deeply cares for others as well, like a bodhisattva, anyway Helen is a great inspiration for all of us who have "ears to hear and eyes to see".

    She’s so lucky, she has a nice house with everything and help. Lot of deaf people and blind doesn’t have a best home. I remembered her first home burned down and lot of people from all over the world sent her replacement gifts. Really lucky.

      of course, she was lucky to be born into a rich family with a lot of recourses, yet she's inspiring her teacher too, I want to learn sign language so hard now

    • @frenchieseverine1966
      @frenchieseverine1966 5 років тому

      @@vio3366 Yes sure her family was wealthy and her father was an old captain of the confederate Army and a journalist who directed the Alabamian or a newspaper and they had maids and servants..As for sign language it is very easy to learn and you can find an alphabet on the net with all the letters.It can be learnt within a week but you need to practice after.

    • @raea3588
      @raea3588 Рік тому

      @@vio3366 Her father lost most of his money when Helen was very young. In fact, he couldn't even afford to pay Annie Sullivan's salary after one year. She stayed for Helen's sake. A trust was set up for Helen's education by people such as Alexander Graham Bell, Mark Twain and others. After that Helen and Annie sometimes struggled to make ends meet. They relied on Helen's books to bring in money. But of course, they were blessed by many good people, including fans who cared about them. That fire Rb Smith speaks of did take almost everything they had.

    Education needs to be more accessible to today's deafblind children. The Dunn deafblind triplet girls are an example. When they were young, their mom could not afford tuition for them to attend Helen's school, Perkins School for the Blind. (Tuition per year today in 2018 is $19,979.) Instead, she got them cochlear implants to maximize any remnants of their hearing and hired an intervenor (teacher like Annie Sullivan). Intervenors in the U.S. currently make an average of 51,000 per year.
