Dang, you really had your work cut out for you there but what an incredible job! Very skilled. I actually restored a similar looking guitar last week too a Silvertone Acoustic, always satisfying seeing the end result!
What happened? Did some kids go after it with M-80's? An ex wife somewhere? You did a nice job. I might add collars to those tuners if it's gonna be strung up to tension. I thought you might add splines too. But she looks whole again.
Haha...I'm not sure the story. I bought it in that shape from Goodwill, so no history. I can only assume someone got pissed off. The ferules are a good suggestion I might have to do that. Would look good too. So far so good without splines. Thanks for the comment!
I don't understand it, so many skilled luthiers who do fantastic work when it gets time to put on finish get out the overpriced, inferior rattle cans of lacquer. You must know that you can buy a compressor, for the price of 8 cans and a cheap $40 paint gun and will get a much better clean coat for $40 per gallon instead of $40 per ten ounce can and you can tint it to the exact color you want instead of settling on what you overpaid for. Is it quick? Is it convenient? but rattle cans are super expensive for what you get. To do a whole guitar it takes around 3 -4 cans thats $120 to $160 plus shipping. I will repeat you get a Gallon for $40 at home depot and the spray gun lays down such a nice finish you spend half the time sanding and polishing. Half way through the rattle can starts spitting and sputtering. Why not make it easier and cheaper on yourself?
Thanks for watching everyone!...check out my latest video here. ua-cam.com/video/IySomEAQSrU/v-deo.html
