I've worked for ups for almost 20 years, the 'cool solutions' training is a very brief overview of what heat stress/exhaustion/stroke are, and tells you to drink water, that's about it. its basicially so they can say 'we told them to take care of themselves' when a driver goes down, but you'll still get yelled at or written up if you stop off in a store with ac for 5-10 minutes longer than you need to just to cool down. also, the back of package cars are heat boxes because they tops of trucks are designed to let light in so they don't need to spend as much money using actual lights back there. And the tops of the driver compartment being insulated is a joke, try to find any driver who has his doors closed in the summer, the heat is going to get in just fine because drivers would rather deal with that than simply closing themselves inside a box that will only get hotter and hotter.

The trucks should be completely air-conditioned. Some shipments, such as medicine and food, are temperature sensitive and should not be sitting in a 130-160F truck.
These fuckers say it isn't "efficient". It's entirely efficient, if they used the right kind of vehicles. Just because you stop regularly does not mean the AC stops putting out cold air. That's not how it works. They just want to save money at the detriment to their workers' health.
I mean, you're right about that--- and SADLY, making it a "bottom line" issue is more likely to resolve it. they don't care about HUMAN COST...only how much it affects the investors.
Individual shippers are ultimately responsible for packing something that has to stay at a certain temperature. FedEx and Ups do not open up packages to replenish dry ice or add gel/ice packs during transit. They are only responsible for getting those from point A to point B before those items perish. If AC systems or reefer units were added to every UPS and Fedex truck in the country then the cost of shipping in general will have to go way up as a result.
Means nothing they’ll get away as osha will investigate but UPS will cover it up. They have the city official in the pocket so no one will do jack squat

I'm a driver. I honestly don't even care about not having AC. Its the 9,10,11,12 hour shifts everyday that really takes its toll. They absolutely refuse to hire enough drivers to thin out the work so everyone can be off by 5pm and that is the number 1 problem. They always say its our fault we're finishing late but thats bullshit. How come 99% of drivers don't finish after 8 hours? the common denominator is too much work!
I worked for ups as a driver helper and I can definitely confirm what you’re saying . My driver told me it’s a great company if you’re young and want to make money. Because of the number of stops you have it’s very common to do 9-12 hours a day everyday. He said it’s Not good for family life because of the hours you do . Seen lots of his coworkers get divorced because of their constant long shifts
@@daneharris2242 I have this theory that they're so sinister that they deliberately rather pay us overtime working 10-12 hours a day then give us adequate time off to 1) start families, and 2) keep the families we have. If they keep the sliding door closed while driving, which most of them do you can have a safe place to go a cool off.

If you are a driver currently on their "watch list" you can be fired for "stealing time" There used to be a district manager that occasionally would show up and he openly stated that "heat is no excuse" "Cool Solutions" is another joke. Its a piece of paper that basically lists off common sense "solutions" like stay hydrated or find shade. Its just another tactic that UPS uses to avoid accountability. It might be time for a "anonymous" tip to OSHA.
I work for Fedex and im so lucky that my truck have ac and it does make a big difference, these companies don’t put ac on their trucks because they say it will burn more gas 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
My husband works for UPS those trucks are brutal and we live in the south. I worry about him all the time in this brutal heat. I’d prime drivers can have a/c so can ups drivers
No amount of hydration, nutrition or adequate sleep will fix the problem. It is a typical big company who shifts the onus to the employee when upper management should be coming up with a proper solution. Far too many companies are operating this way, where they will solicit feedback from the employees on an "anonymous survey", then make life more difficult for the employees by claiming that the issues are their fault and instituting more rules, effectively making employees self censor for fear of blanket reprisal while they suffer in inhumane conditions such as these. It is very typical over the last decade, and I have seen it first hand multiple times through multiple companies. They are more worried about their ESG score going up and spending $$$ on gas.
its crazy that everyone forgets that UPS operates facilities, big warehouse with no AC all day. We load trailers that have been sitting in the hot sun for days. The ups drivers get the cool air when leaving the BOX car but the people loading the 53foot trailers have it way worse in my book. Hard job not for everyone.
If you live in a place where it gets hot like this then you need to call in on those days to keep yourself safe. There is no shame in doing so. They're just boxes. They are not worth your life. I used to be a UPS driver and have driven in both hot weather and freezing weather. Know your limits.
Seems like There is a disconnect between what public relations is saying verse the drivers. There is a fear of retaliation because there is retaliation at the lower management/warehouse/driver supervisor level. I used to drive a step van delivery truck like the ups trucks. It was hot as hell in the summer and we only worked four 10 to 12hr days . I cant imagine 2 more days in the heat, then only one day to recoup. I can see it physically wearing them down.
Ok let me say this. UPS'S first priority has never been safety. I worked for them for 8 years and could site example after example of UPS telling us to do things that where not safe. The guy was a little disingenuous. They don't work in constant 160 degree temps.
They’re not doing enough bottom line, they make too much money to not have air conditioner n their vehicles, UPS needs to stop making excuses and try riding and working under these conditions
Ups drivers are one thing. The warehouse workers who work in a warehouse thats hotter than outside AND still inside these trucks suffer more and make less. As a person who worked at UPS loading trucks you basically have to down a gallon of water to just stay hydrated and even then it isnt enough
@@forgedintruth1009 your right. Ive never driven in the trucks in the heat of the day. But in the HUB atleast where i worked there was 0 air flow. Not even small fans. So the warehouse is already hot but in the trucks its even hotter. Atleast in a truck you get the breeze when driving
@@johnblack8872 I get what your saying but you don't suffer more than the average driver. Not even remotely close. Preload has maybe 4-5 hour shifts... not in direct sunlight or in the heat of the day. I'm not downplaying working in the hub... I've done it. But overall it's not the same. Kinda the reason drivers get frustrated when the load quality sucks. Having to scavenge for packages in the back of the truck can turn a normal 8 hour day into a 12-14 hour day... and that's without adding the heat
Also, like to mention that even the “pigs” the F750 box trucks, don’t have AC in the cab either. Plus, all leather interior, obviously has doors, and DOES NOT make frequent stops. Cool solutions training = “Drink water” . All of these trucks are manufactured WITH an AC , the freight liners, the work horses, the vans, and the F750s. UPS has there mechanics take all the ACs out. They do this to cut cost and increase fuel mileage. Then scrap the AC units for a little money back. It’s ALL about money. I drive a “pig” (F750) almost every day . I have two windows for AC that’s it. There’s absolutely no reason it should have no ac.
Only reason I'm not a driver is due to the insanely long hours. Was given the opportunity to become one last year but once I realized that they CONSISTENTLY work 50 - 60 hours/week, I declined. It's not like it's regularly 40-45 hours and occasionally 50. Nope, it's seriously 50 - 60 hrs weekly. At least in my city. If you want to do this, you will make a lot of cash and have terrific insurance. Just be prepared to not have a personal life anymore. Lol. Oh, and not have a/c in the truck. :/
I'm a UPS driver. I called the management when I got over heated and he didn't believe me. He came out with his personal vehicle with ac and just followed me around until I was done. And I did took a hour lunch break in a ac office before the lazy supervisor got to me.....
They can say what they want. As a former employee both union and non-union from 1988-2000, they are big on intimidation and retaliation. If they didn’t work under a hostile environment there is no way they could accomplish the amount of work that the employees get done there.
I feel like ppl don’t understand how hot it gets inside the trucks. Im sitting on half the engine in my truck and the heat from the floor is unbearable at times. Ac was disconnected so when I accelerate, nothing but hot air blows out. Even with it off. I taped all the vents closed even the ones point at your feet. Barely helps. Ppl don’t get it, they see ppl working outside doing hard labor but don’t realize it’s very different. We’re sitting in ovens 20 degrees hotter then outside. While we drive cooking slowly, getting up… getting in and out of the truck 120-200 (number of deliveries) times and lifting packages 1-150 pounds up driveways up stairs thru hallways. We’re doing this as fast as we can so our heart rate is up the whole time. Then we sit in the oven some more. Oh and some of the drivers like myself send two hours loading and organizing our trucks. Now do that 6 days in a row for years.
Yes the back of the truck gets hot but you are back there a very short time to select your delivery and exit the vehicle. You don’t see roofers complaining about the heat or hiway maintenance employees complaining. It’s there job so they do it . If it’s too hot find an office job!
Hey UPS paint the tops af all vehicles white..white does not attract the heat like dark colors do..many a school bus roofs across the country are painted white to keep the kids cool because of no a/c like an delivery truck.. at least do something for the drivers!
I know this report claims that UPS had thoroughly researched how to mitigate the heat. One big problem for UPS drivers is the color of the truck. It absorbs heat. It's easy to be an armchair QB, but it seems they might try misting systems in the cab, air-conditioned seats, routes and rules that allow for rest breaks in extreme heat, forced air venting systems in the cargo area, and/or modular side/rear panels with grating that can be opened to air out the cargo box when it is not raining. Also, the uniform colors ought to be light colored and not dark. They could still have the UPS logo and striping or something. Naturally, all of this would incur costs of equipment and fuel. We can keep astronauts cool/warm in the extremes of space! (Couldn't resist the last comment. I know it's not a reasonable comparison!) 🙂
WOW. "There is no AC because of the frequent stops." The AC is essential on a hot day. If the driver feels unwell because of the heat he can wait in the cab to recover then go back doing deliveries. These trucks have heater in the winter. They need AC in the summer heat!!!
@Banter Maestro2 the ups driver is in Phoenix. No humidity. It's really stupid to say macho. Do you understand relative hydration? The body is how much water?
Hell, i got written up for a person running a stop sign and hitting me driver side!!!!. My direction of traffic did not have a stop sign and I was told I should’ve stopped anyways. This was in a residential neighborhood.... I believe the guy
I used to work for a company not ups but another nation wide company. We worked in the sun the heat was really bad, they would say safety first but that was all BS so if something happened they can say that you were told to be safe. Truth is is you complain or said something you would put a target on your back. They would then try to write you up and get rid of you.
I work in a warehouse and interact with drivers from all different carriers. AC is a luxury it’s not a must have. Bring a hydro flask if you think your “life’s on the line”. It’s sad to see people neglect their own bodies and gear up to try and file a lawsuit. Show me one person who has stayed hydrated throughout the day fall over from heat exhaustion 😂
I think ups camelbacks should be implemented. Also, install sectional ice pockets on the camelback with zippers to remove the ice blocks to freeze overnight.
Oh NO! This is just NOT RIGHT! I am shocked by this whole situation. It's just WRONG. Fear is being used and I am disappointed in any company that says one thing but does another. 😠
UPS should make the sun less hot, I’m with you girl. They should tell the sun, “don’t you come near my employees, they are hot.” It’s just not right that they allow the sun to be so close to the earth in the summer.
I worked for UPS for 10 years. Typical corporate response. The heat is pushing the human body to its limits. At some point, proper sleep, hydration and anything else they want to include will not matter.

Ups forced their drivers to work for six days for no reason. Safety and health are not their first priority. When I got hire years ago. They told me I work Monday to Friday. Now of days if you don’t show up on Saturday they will send you a warning letter. All they care about is their “ NUMBER “.
Not only that the people who get laid to load the actual trucks throw boxes all over the trucks forcing drivers to have to be in the back of the truck for longer periods of time. If drivers say they need to drop a route they get written up, forced to take drug tests amongst other things to make their lives hell as a punishment for not finishing. Luckily the residents offer water.
I feel sorry for all drivers. Ups, fed ex, usps and dhl. Every time I see my carrier I give them a bottle or 2 of water. This heat is just getting deadly and deadlier every year. I’ve worked for all these companies but only in the warehouse and airport hangers. I was offered a dollar more to be a carrier here and I said NOPE!!! Not in state. Not worth it to me…
The turnover rate is very high with delivery jobs. People don't realize how difficult it can be during extreme weather conditions. The problem is some people think they can do it without taking care of themselves...hydration...rest..etc. Because of high turnover and lack of members the work load is being done with minimal help pushing people to work harder than they need too. Why is that? It's because the greedy executives want more money with least amount of expense removed from their bottom line. Because of that these jobs don't pay very well for the amount of stress the employee has to endure. People have been struggling with their health while working these jobs for decades and no body cared until a video revealed it??? Back in the day people used to kill themselves working hard for a company that could care less about them....I don't see that happening anymore...people quit their jobs because their bosses are tyrants and make the job more difficult than it has to be to become more profitable.
Not sure which delivery company you’re talking about, but UPS doesn’t have a high turnover rate. They actually can’t get people to retire after 30 years because the pay and benefits are so good and people don’t want to give that up. There is a waitlist in many places to be a UPS driver. Maybe at Amazon, but not UPS.
why do they not have fan vents on the top of the trucks. amazing ... I did drive for one year before I was hurt.... UPS will strike back at the lower levels for anything... amazing and the union will only stand for the ones they want to...

Don’t get me wrong, it would be nice for a couple of weeks out of the year, yes, but during that time it isn’t hard to not drink alcohol on night and weekends, drink water like a fish and take breaks in an air condition facility. I’d rather have more money in my pocket, rather than UPS spending money on plastic curtains or adding A/C to all the trucks because one loser can’t manage to binge drink and come to work hungover.
I mean, you're right about that---
and SADLY, making it a "bottom line" issue is more likely to resolve it.
they don't care about HUMAN COST...only how much it affects the investors.

All the negative responses until it's your family member smh .... shame on ups
Fact
I worked for ups as a driver helper and I can definitely confirm what you’re saying . My driver told me it’s a great company if you’re young and want to make money. Because of the number of stops you have it’s very common to do 9-12 hours a day everyday. He said it’s Not good for family life because of the hours you do . Seen lots of his coworkers get divorced because of their constant long shifts
@@daneharris2242 I have this theory that they're so sinister that they deliberately rather pay us overtime working 10-12 hours a day then give us adequate time off to 1) start families, and 2) keep the families we have. And the reason is because our benefits are so good and without extra charge, our benefits cover our spouses & children's health, dental and vision insurance. They don't want to have to cover our families so they make sure we lose them or can't start them.
I know one thing for sure! Management doesn’t care they want numbers regardless of the drivers health and when I read these statements that management puts out that they are willing to listen its a joke! I have called in and talked with management multiple times about being over dispatched on days in the triple digits and they tell me its what you get paid to do I don’t want to hear it! Even now after 22 years its getting worse. I just came back from my second shoulder surgery and asked my manager if I could use one of the lighter hand trucks that they lock up and collect dust and was told no you can use the bigger heavier one thats really hard to get in and out of the truck because I will decide who deserves to use the better equipment! Yes it wasn’t always this way we used to get a little respect for what we put ourselves through!
I worked for UPS a few years ago. I really wanted the job for the retirement and decent pay for my area. When they got me a new van for a very rural route that I did. It was delivered with an AC. They wouldn't let me drive it until they removed it. They claimed it was to cut cost.
This next contract we need to fight for one issue: Employee ownership. We earn that, we fix all our problems.
The corporate avenues lead to threats. Gotta get the community behind you to combat corporate.
Having AC is not ineffective, having cold blow on you makes a huge difference. Yes it won't cool the whole van but it can at least cool the driver
Exactly!!! During winter that back of the package car is ice cold but the front is tolerable...Ac would do the same thing
$$$ over life, this is corporate America.
yup very sad what its become
I'm a mechanic a/c is not going to do anything to the engine except keep the drivers safe and everyone around them sure it may drop the power by 1hp out of 350+ that's nothing I would work for ups if the had a/c in the trucks but after seeing this I would never work for them evil twisted company it's always about money bastards
Exactly. Cheap a$$ UPS MAFIA not going to buy a/c. Mafia would rather dead drivers families sue, and shut them up.
They’re wrong about AC. They should have AC in that entire vehicle, especially the back.
They push a lot of training specifically on safety, but truth is they push you so hard and fast you cant catch your breath for a break. Every company says you can go to HR without retaliation but it always happens. You are considered weak or lazy if you need a break.
Union needs to fight to get AC in those vehicles, unconscionable to not have it in trucks.

I'm sorry, but you can put air conditioning in the back where the doors are closed. The driver then would have a place to cool off, while get packages together or take a break from the outside heat. I do understand why there is no air conditioning in the cab, but they definitely can put roof air on the back. If they keep the sliding door closed while driving, which most of them do you can have a safe place to go a cool off.

The driver in the video is absolutely correct. If you were to drive off area to seek heat relief, you WILL be brought into the office to discuss why. If you are a driver currently on their "watch list" you can be fired for "stealing time"
There used to be a district manager that occasionally would show up and he openly stated that "heat is no excuse"
"Cool Solutions" is another joke. Its a piece of paper that basically lists off common sense "solutions" like stay hydrated or find shade. Its just another tactic that UPS uses to avoid accountability.
It might be time for a "anonymous" tip to OSHA.
NO AC IN TRUCKS? Ridiculous
I work for Fedex and im so lucky that my truck have ac and it does make a big difference, these companies don’t put ac on their trucks because they say it will burn more gas 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
BOYCOTT UPS NOW , INHUMAINE TREATMENT OF WORKING WITHOUT A/C BOYCOTT
I work there no air in the building they're more interested in robots and technology
its crazy that everyone forgets that UPS operates facilities, big warehouse with no AC all day. We load trailers that have been sitting in the hot sun for days. The ups drivers get the cool air when leaving the BOX car but the people loading the 53foot trailers have it way worse in my book. Hard job not for everyone.
It’s definitely not worse in the hub, most hubs the drivers all loaded and worked in the hub, it’s harder on the road
Well what makes a difference I've done uber eats in and out picking and delivering and the AC is on coming back and repeat
yes even short stints in a cool car can make a difference
If you live in a place where it gets hot like this then you need to call in on those days to keep yourself safe. There is no shame in doing so. They're just boxes. They are not worth your life. I used to be a UPS driver and have driven in both hot weather and freezing weather. Know your limits.
You can not train a human body to work in 100+ temperatures.
Ups ACTING like they care.. all these people care about is money just like McDonald's
You do get ups drivers make a $100,000 a year?? But yet they don't care about their employees?? 😂😂😂
FedEx has the same issue. Put A/C in the trucks!!
I work at ups and it definitely gets super hot in the trailers! But that money is good and that’s why a lot of us just do our best to deal with it.
Working Amazon right now 78 stops down 106 more to go. It’s currently 86 degrees and the back of my van is 100+
Ok let me say this. UPS'S first priority has never been safety. I worked for them for 8 years and could site example after example of UPS telling us to do things that where not safe. The guy was a little disingenuous. They don't work in constant 160 degree temps.
In Arizona or Texas or other places in the summer I'm sure its 160. The normal temp outside is already close to 105 or more.
One thing that they don't say is "we lie like hell
Just today saw a UPS driver with no air, today 114°????? put a/C for driver, put a F" SOLAR PANEL ON TOP OF TRUCK..U.CEOS DRIVE for a day
UPS: " is an employee's life really worth the cost of ac???"
How is there no AC in their trucks?!?!?!?
They’re not doing enough bottom line, they make too much money to not have air conditioner n their vehicles, UPS needs to stop making excuses and try riding and working under these conditions
Ups drivers are one thing. The warehouse workers who work in a warehouse thats hotter than outside AND still inside these trucks suffer more and make less.
As a person who worked at UPS loading trucks you basically have to down a gallon of water to just stay hydrated and even then it isnt enough
As a ups driver... who has worked in the hub.. I can confirm you've never driven a truck in the heat. It's worse than inside the hub
Fed ex has some kind of air system so why can't ups have air on there trucks.

We don't want to overwork our drivers LOL here's 150 to 200 stops per day
They can say what they want.
Maybe you should pay for air conditioning
They don't need frickin air conditioning!! Just stay hydrated. Yes, when you're skinny it hits you even harder.
And when you're Jabbed, these are the results...
YES, THEY DO, YOU LOW LIFE
@Banter Maestro2 the ups driver is in Phoenix. No humidity. It's really stupid to say macho. Do you understand relative hydration? The body is how much water?
No AC? No excuse
Do they have heaters either
I work in a warehouse and interact with drivers from all different carriers. AC is a luxury it’s not a must have. Bring a hydro flask if you think your “life’s on the line”. It’s sad to see people neglect their own bodies and gear up to try and file a lawsuit. Show me one person who has stayed hydrated throughout the day fall over from heat exhaustion 😂
UPS where the AC in your truck is way expensive than your life.
I think ups camelbacks should be implemented. Also, install sectional ice pockets on the camelback with zippers to remove the ice blocks to freeze overnight.
UPS drivers in alaska must count their blessings each day.
161'F? Back of the truck or oven?
UPS better give these drivers AC! Why can they not see this is an issue

An Accident is waiting if prevention is not addressed, "Lessons Learned"
The real question is why isn't legislation being put out to force these companies to cut into their profits for the sake of their employees?
Not only that the people who get laid to load the actual trucks throw boxes all over the trucks forcing drivers to have to be in the back of the truck for longer periods of time. If drivers say they need to drop a route they get written up, forced to take drug tests amongst other things to make their lives hell as a punishment for not finishing. Luckily the residents offer water.
I feel sorry for all drivers. Ups, fed ex, usps and dhl. Every time I see my carrier I give them a bottle or 2 of water. This heat is just getting deadly and deadlier every year. I think they should put vents in the back of the truck too and even a mini fan in there. It’s ridiculous.
My package is NOT that important... The well-being of the driver is...
