- UPS drivers are collapsing in the street, suffering heat stroke & dying because the company refuses to put air conditioning in their trucks. UPS made $13 billion in profit last year yet won't pay for A/C like FedEx & Amazon already do. This should be a national scandal.

Cause the car is on all the time even when you stop so the ac is always cool
@@naegleriafowleri2230 it’s not always on. It’s policy to turn off the van, take the keys, and lock the it up whenever you deliver a package.

Fed ex can keep their trucks running at each stop though...ups drivers have to turn them off but it still might help a little. It would definitely help to have it in the back....the back turns into an oven
I'm UPS employee, and not just the drivers are having a rough time, but package handlers as well. The heat will kill you if you're loading in a trailer depending where you work at. Some building don't offer fans to point in a trailer, and sometimes the trailers that bring in from outside of the building, and they're sitting in the heat. Also... To keep on a side note. Our UNION doesn't help us and maybe that's just where we're located, but the UNION near doesn't care to take any of our calls, or come down to ask what we think, or to make up a meet up for a closer location. They want all of us to drive 2 hours to sit for a meeting. Depending where you live some areas that UNIONS are at don't care.
Package handler for 10 yrs. It’s an extremely hard job and not many people can do what we do on a daily basis. We literally hire 25-50 new hires a month because the jobs such hard work after just a few hrs in the warehouse people quit. Drivers and package handlers deserve better pay especially the amount of profits this company is racking in! Oh and about the union…they don’t do anything anymore for us like the stories I heard from older drives or workers who’ve been working there 30+ years. Before it was a good thing to join now there almost no point especially if the location your at doesn’t care.

Yup. I used to be a part time supervisor/trainer for outbound overnight. The turnover rate is over 100 percent. New hires do not last 5 days. Someone passes out everyday because of heat.
Nobody cares. I can say that with confidence. The "safety" office are looking out for their bottom line and every injury is a hit to their bonuses and lame ass "pizza" fridays that if you eat pizza you will feel like shit no matter the weather. The fans are 20 years old and you have to stand directly in front of the fan to get air flow in a 52 foot trailer were packages are falling all over the place. If ita 100 degrees outside its 120 in the trailer. UPS sucks.
Unions are a joke of what they once were.
Now they just take your money and laugh in your face.
Telling someone they're not allowed to call 911 is a violation of their civil rights and the person instructing them not to call 911 is administering Medical advice which is a crime also.
I used to drive for UPS and can attest that the drivers work hard and Management is evil. Most exploitative management I ever worked for, which is a shame because the company works miracles on a daily basis and I was proud to be a part of it. But nothing is good enough for their managers who buck for promotion by showing how "tough" they can be on employees, who are already working their hearts out.

That's the way it got at AT&T as managers were not represented by the union and could get the ax at any time. I had one manager that quit as a manager and went back to craft. Another one considered it. I remember one day hearing all the loud yelling as one of our 1st line managers was arguing with the district manager who was a jerk. Managers were getting pushed to produce or they would get the ax.
I’ve been driving for UPS for 22 years. I can say I’ve had my share of poor management, but I have to say, my current management is absolutely amazing. They know we have tough jobs, but so do they. If we’re doing a good job, they don’t get pulled into corporate phone calls getting their a$$ ripped about our performance. While some management definitely has power trip issues, some can also be really good.
Now they’re forcing 6 days a week. I move like a snail 🐌 and get that money.
I use to be a UPS package handler/loader and I can 100% that UPS does not care at all!! They care so much more for progress and numbers and I’ve almost passed out myself due to sweating so much and having to go so fast. I quit five months ago and I hope something changes
Fr, i used to do it as well, i worked in a really old ups warehouse that had no A.C. and barely even had fans. Could only work there for a month. They were pretty sketcky about paychecks too, the checks often seemed lower than normal and when we asked our supervisors about it they blamed it on computer error.

i just quit yesterday from trying to qualify to be a driver at ups and let me just say it was one of the most stressed out, exhausted ,and demanding job ive ever had. constant 10-14 hour shifts no breaks in a heatwave, and to qualify everyone tells you to clock out on break and keep working so that your numbers look better it is completely and utterly wrong how they treat there workers
our ice machine has been down and broken for over a year and they have stopped supplying water for colorado as well

Living in the country I appreciate my UPS drivers. I had no idea. UPS should be ashamed and so should stockholders. It is barbaric and inhumane. People get arrested for leaving animals in the heat with no water. What about these fellow human beings who are being mistreated. Get behind the drivers and call UPS. I ship everything this way so I will be voicing an opinion.
Uber eats doesn't pay as much as ups, no benefits but I can take a break when I need to. I wouldn't want to be a delivery driver without the ac and my water bottle and or Gatorade.
Good point Sharon,people get arrested for leaving kids and pets in a hot car.UPS and the Union needs to wake up and fix this issue before someone gets hurt really bad from heat exhaustion.

As a former semi trailer truck loader for UPS i can tell you none of this is exaggerated ... supervisors clocked workers loading trucks with a stop watch in hand

I work for UPS as well. I must be very fortunate, because I haven’t experienced any of the horror stories that I read about online, although I know it’s 💯 happened. We had a horrible preload manager when I started, but he was fired within a year of me being hired. I think as a lot of the old timers retire, the ones who did come up and were trained in this type of atmosphere, stuff like this will be dying off as they do. My building has its issues, but I’m definitely very fortunate to be where I’m at compared to what other buildings go through.
Yeah, been clocked for over 40 years. You get used to it. The best is when they watch from a distance, like Jason from Friday the 13th, waiting.
SAW MY DRIVE PULLING UP - I quickly ran to my fridge and got a huge glass of water with ice. Met him at the door. He was a sweaty mess. He said thanks and downed the entire glass in a few seconds. I feel for these guys. 🥵

You think a group of millionaires who own this company are sitting somewhere crying about what happen to this guy on his route? No, they're in board meetings laughing and talking about their next vacation or buying their offspring a new home as a graduation gift. Bottom line, none of them care. They've made money off of desperate folks looking for a job that pays good under horrible conditions. The only way that they'll start showing sympathy is if the company takes a nose dive and people start leaving. Then you'll see various videos of them crying and acting concerned. Aside from that, they'll never care.
There are several of us drivers working the heat everyday who own stock and are millionaires.... So your argument is a little soft. But yes, the management doesn't care and I guess more of them are millionaires. Nobody makes anybody work here, we are all free to quit.

I work in attics a lot in the summer where it's around 130 degrees and the air is stale and full of insulation debris. When I start making dumb mistakes, I know it's time to get out and take a break and cool off. Sometimes I have to wear a full Tyvek suit and full face respirator while up there. It's hard to make yourself even go up there, bc the heat causes your brain to panic and go into flight mode and you have to fight it the whole time. Scary shit
Let's band together as a nation. As much as we are able, give UPS drivers a cold bottle of water, frozen fruit, cold smoothies, ice packs, cold neck wraps, etc. If UPS won't improve the conditions, let's at least help when we encounter the drivers!
I’m a package handler, unloader, and shop steward. I’m at a point where I’ve decided I don’t wanna drive for UPS, because of not having AC, etc. Been a insider over 2 years.
I'm a UPS driver. Asking for AC will make things worse. It's best of they back off our OA, and reduce the stops and packages.

I'm still a UPS employee, working the preload shift (Usually 4AM to 7:30 AM) for revenue recovery, and I have massive respect for drivers. It's bad enough that it's hot in the warehouse, but I can't imagine being out there for 10+ HOURS. I complain about breaking down my body for a measly $250 every week, but the fact that these drivers are risking their LIVES just to deliver us packages that we constantly order online makes my complaining irrelevant. This reason is now why I offer any driver, whether it's a doordash dasher or any other delivery service that comes to my house, a cold bottle of water, and even then I'd give them two bottles; because I picture myself being in their shoes. I've also worked as an unloader, and wanted to be a driver, glad I dodged a bullet there. You think being in a trailer for about an hour and a half or 2 is bad? Again, think about the people being in the heat for over 10 hours every. single. week. Again, huge respect to these drivers risking their lives for making sure we get our packages; we don't get paid enough for what we go through, inside or outside the warehouse.

There isn't one company that exists that cares about the safety and welfare of its employees period. Companies allow adverse conditions to exist because it allows productivity to continue flowing and and is all they care about. Employees are expendable and treated like a commodity. If a employee gets injured the first course of action for management is to see how much of the blame can be shifted to the employee to reduce management's culpability.
It's profitable that way.

I retired from the USPS. Believe me it's the same way. Those LLV's get up to over 120 degrees inside even with that worthless 8 inch fan. Makes it like a microwave oven inside. They don't want you to roll down your windows if you are on a Walking Route using these Vehicles. Supervisors and Postmasters give you an extra 2 hours of Overtime in the extreme conditions all the time amd this makes you be out there for 10 hours. They could at least bring you out some Ice Water. They don't care. They are in their Air Conditioned Office. Thank goodness for some of my great customers who would be there waiting for me to give me a Cold Drink.
All out vehicles had water jugs we filled them with ice before leaving the yard.

USPS in Phoenix almost killed my GF with this BS and she still has issues over 10 years later. We tried to get her to grieve it but she refused. smh

I’m a ups driver this brought a tear the thought of having AC in my truck brought a tear to my eye …. My friend had a seizure due to the heat our center didn’t find him for a hour and half when they walked up to his truck it was a bloody mess they thought he was dead due to how much blood was there

I’ve never seen a better argument for a worker union. This is perfect Example of corporate greed overriding human beings safety needs. Yes UPS pays well, but they have clearly lost their way when they start putting profits ahead of decency. Shame on UPS, and shame on its stockholders for allowing this.

Also, less importantly but still important, customers should wonder about the condition of overhead packages, which are sometimes food or even medical supplies in the heat of those trucks.

Someone told me that their wine membership told them we won't ship it if it's over 100° I told them everything gets delivered every day no exceptions
@@juantrujillo6280 I deliver wine and food every day for FedEx ground. Most of the boxes of food are soft because the ice packs have melted. 140 plus degrees will do that to ice.

Yes, the trucks have heat for when it's cold. We keep the doors open to have air flow, but there are definitely doors.
we do but its useless unless you close the doors, but if you close the doors then our stop count drops drastically because we gotta constantly open and close them. So it turns a 10 hour route into a 12-14 hour route easy, which means we'll get written up.
They do have heat. And they have doors on both sides.
@@MasterKeyMagic it doesn't take another 2 4 hours a day to finish a route if you have to open and close the door all day. There's no way I'm freezing my ass off in the winter driving around with the doors open. We're talking a matter of minutes added on a day

UPS is only getting away/allowed to do that in the US! I'm Dutch, and here UPS drives in "normal" delivery vans that have all the "normal" bells and whistles on them. Like it wouldn't even be allowed to have those Vans here, with those wide open "doors" and such!
It's awful that it's needed to be this specific about working condition laws, but it looks like they need to be, to stop companies from trying to pull this fulishness(?)!
We can't***** be in those small vans here. In NC my bulding runs around 100-200 stops per route and lots of pickups. I do around 120 deliveries a day and 22 pickups. I also have to go back to the building to unload my truck because it gets full, then go back and finish the rest of my pickups and stops. But top tay here is 41.49 so i'm willing to do it for the money

@@BassPlayer9000 I went into feeders for the very you're talking about. I drove package car for 15 years. My body just couldn't take it anymore. My route had 11 to 15 apartment complexes on it depending on how they dispatched me. None of my business stops had docks so I was constantly hand trucking. My UPS store pick up was a nightmare! 2 to 3 hundred packages a day with no dock. I couldn't take it anymore.
Assuming that AC doesn't work due to the trucks constantly opening/closing their doors, there's already a solution to this problem. They're called cooling vests, the military has used them for a long time. Of course they decided in most cases that simply equipping their vehicles with AC was a better idea ultimately.
I have a job working for myself. I'll drive 100 miles in a day, and stop upwards of 50 times during that trip of about 6 hours. The air conditioning is ineffective when stopping the car all the time, and do not like leaving it running if I'm not in it. Worse yet, the engine heat pours into the cabin every time I get back in and start driving. Only time it does work is the rare occasion that I have a 10-15 minute gap between stops. I eventually got an EV, the engine heat is pretty non existent, and the AC does actually work when I need it as its not fighting the engine heat.

I delivered in the basement of a mall where the Phoenix sun heated it to 137 degrees. I bought a cooling vest off of Amazon with the extra gel pack for front and back of the vest. They cooled for about 2.5 hours. I would then get my extra set out of an ice bucket (it takes only 15 minutes to charge in the ice water). I was then good to go. My core temperature never went above 58 degrees. It was a life saver. I made the proposal during the proposal meeting in January. It would only cost $199.00 for the vest. Cheaper than A/C. I would like to see A/C but we all know what happens when something breaks down, as A/C would eventually do. They tell us to park it on the wall, and then wait for parts. We would then be forced back to square 1 with no A/C. It would be a better immediate solution, in my opinion. I do not work for this made in the USA company nor am I being paid to tell you about vests. I am a retired 50 year employee and wish to do what I can to make working conditions better and hopefully save lives.. I have added the link to the type of vest I got. Just happened to be listening to this, when I was in the hot mail room. Also the brave mail man was there delivering the mail. I got to talk to him about this. Has never had air conditioning. Extremely dangerous. Gets over a hundred degrees for weeks. Corporate greed comes into play here, apt owners, ticket sellers, oil companies and more. Shame on them!!
Not to downplay what's happening to these drivers, since what they go through is absolutely horrendous, but 140+ degree heat inside those trucks can't possibly be good for the packages being delivered, either, especially if it's something like perishables. (the dry ice or whatever other insulation can only keeps things cold for so long...) Hopefully these workers can get UPS to cave and finally give them the AC they deserve.
They may not listen to employees, but they might listen to their main product getting damaged.
This is absolutely ridiculous, even the most basic vehicle has shitty AC yet a multi-billion dollar company can implement basic AC in their vehicles which is the life blood of the company!
Dude I've seen entire trailers burn down to the ground at UPS. The excuse was static electricity caused something to ignite.
Candles are the best, and the oysters that were at the end of a 13 hour day.
Dude half the refrigerated medical boxes I deliver are ruined from the heat most of the food boxes get thrown out as well. I can't put them in a cooler cause the truck is so blown out with shit i can only fit a cooler big enough for like 6 bottles of water.

Whenever I order from an online merchant, I specify that it NOT be shipped via UPS. Not only is the driver as well as package handlers in hot warehouses being put in danger, but so is my package. Much of what I order specifies it be kept in a cool dry place, not in a hot building and in the back of a 150º truck. If everyone who orders stuff specify their order not be shipped via UPS, it might make a difference.
As a UPS driver I would cry while delivering sometimes because the heat was just so horrible. I had blisters on my thighs from where the sun hit my legs and my shorts rubbed against it. I would suffocate a bit while looking for a package in the back. It was horrible. I was able to go back to the warehouse and now I’m just trying to get a position into management instead

I work for UPS. I can’t speak for other buildings in the company, but we take this very seriously in my building. Every PCM during the summer has a talk about proper hydration. We buy water by the pallets for our employees. I’ve sent people home very recently because they were starting to show signs of dehydration and possible heat stroke. But yeah, our package cars do not have A/C in them. Unfortunately, even if the company decided to change that, it would takes years to upgrade our fleet, even without the current manufacturing issues due to chip shortages. Should that be something that should change moving forward? Yes.
Should have never sent that fleet out without air conditioning to begin with. Saving $185 dollars - but that ain't what it's about is it? It's about the gas mileage you'd be giving up isn't it? I hope the families of the people that die sue you and your shareholders out of existence.
I’ve been a package handler for a little over a year now. I’ve been through two summers in the warehouse and this hits close to home. I’ve almost passed out more times than I can count from the heat. And I’m in there before the sun comes up so I can only imagine what these drivers go through on a daily basis!
I pray to God for all of you who are struggling with this heat.
As a driver myself, we have ac and super grateful for it, however there times that I get a spare truck without ac and trust me when I say, the heat ain't no joke.

I just started working at UPS about 2 months and some change ago. I currently unload trailers. These trailer can be anywhere from 48 to 60 feet long. It can take half an hour to over and hour to empty these trailers. Especially depending on how old the facility is. We need to put long rollers into the trailer manually as we get deeper into the trailer. During break you can see package handlers dripping on the floor due to sweating so hard. The unloading part of our building has poor air flow and only one large fan that is mostly blocked by the belts. I myself am not adverse to working hard in high heat I have spent years in the ARMY, but I would think UPS could afford to take better care of the people who work so hard every week to make them all that money. We also get those Cool Solutions almost every day. Like people don't know to drink water already. At least the supervisors I have are pretty good people. They often go out of their way to go get water and stock coolers full. They pass them around to everyone and make sure everyone is ok. I'm looking to make a career out of the UPS and being a driver is a goal. Hoping UPS gets the trucks A/Cs.

Wow I'm astounded at the fact ups doesn't have ac in their vans. I assumed they did. Prayers to all the hard workers that deliver. I hope yall get compensation for all the days, weeks, years yall have had to withstand the heat. I live in GA and the heat here in the summer is unbearable let alone in the car.
I called and tried to complain about this because the poor guy nearly passed out in my driveway. I ran and got him water with ice, i walk with a came and badly broke my foot this year but i ran. His cooler with ice and water they claim to provide at the begining of the day by 10am was completely melted. This is bull. I was told unless my goods were damage I couldn't file a complaint!!!

This is so sad and inhumane. But for me, a customer, it also probably explains why my Apple computer box, delivered off the UPS truck directly into my arms ( I was standing at the end of my driveway) was so EXTREMELY hot that I almost dropped it!
I'm ready through these comments and replies, and I am staggered that some people actually believe the drivers are just bitching and moaning, as if the solution is as simple as "find another job." I'm going to ruffle a few feathers. Here's my .02 on this whole thing after almost 4 years part time in September.
UPS doesn't want any of the heat stroke cases or any death cases reported because it will "damage" their reputation. This "Cool Solutions" program that has been implemented is another way for UPS to discipline their employees. EVERY UPS EMPLOYEE is told to "stay hydrated" and "drink plenty of water and fluids". Not only that, but the part-time employees have to suffer too. Whether it is the inside employee loading the delivery vehicle, or loading an outbound trailer, the part-timers also suffer. The facilities almost always have the overhead doors open which doesn't do anything to keep the facility remotely close to air-conditioned.
Safety is never the top priority until production is tampered with.
Fun fact: UPS doesn't want OSHA at their facilities. UPS cuts a cashier's check to OSHA as their request to turn around and not come.

Here is what I'll say as a UPSer and a Teamster of almost half a decade, the AC issue feels like its being pushed by the company to distract from the rule issues of PVD's, 22.4s, and the decades of lack of pay raises for inside workers which is what the national Teamster platform for the upcoming negotiating contract is. I support UPS having to put AC in the trucks and more robust climate control inside hubs as a demand; however, its very far from my primary one.

@Hec The teamsters are not perfect in any of this. They really seem to only care and RCPDs anyway and shit on everyone else. I am just as pissed at the Teamsters as I am at UPS. As for the PVDs and 22.4s I really dont care and have yet to meet anyone that does in my 150 car center. This is a non issue that the Teamsters wont shut the hell up about. P.S. it was really nice to only work 9-10hr days over last peak and be able to see my family thanks to those "Evil PVDs".
1.) No, the Teamsters are not perfect; however, our union's party leadership has changed. Holding O'Brien accountable for the Hoffa administrations concessions is unfair and idiotic.
2.) I work at the 3rd largest delivery hub in the US, 150 cars is so tiny!
3.) I'm sure it was nice, and the company should have to hire 22.3 positions to cover the peak volume without moving bargaining agreement work out of the union. The choice shouldnt be "allow the union to crumble" or "work 9-10 hours"

I was so exhausted working in a hot truck that I felt like I was being cooked in an oven
And I threw up in the truck and even though I didn’t know it at the time that it was the first sign of a heat stroke my
Boss kept me working until someone else told me to get out of the truck
After that they sent me home
If they are not going to modernize
Like Amazon or FedEx then UPS needs to get the message

Will they? Unfortunately things have to get even worse before people truly rise up and say "no more." The system has won...for now. They have everyone making juuuuuust enough peanuts to live off of so that everyone is too afraid to stand up and risk losing those peanuts. So they work in these inhuman conditions because not getting that pittance of a paycheck is worse to them than destroying your body. "If I stand up and say something I'll just get fired. And who knows how long it could take me to find another job. I have rent to worry about, family to feed. Better to risk heatstroke every single day than risk not being able to pay for my kids meals."
As a package handler at UPS I know the feeling. Tbh it makes me angry when corporate comes by and critiques us on shit but won’t realize the working conditions need to change. They made two loaders redo an entire trailer that consisted of close to 1K packages all due to some of the walls being bad. They came in on the hottest day we had in Michigan which I believe was around 100+ degrees in the building. The hot metal trailers that sit out in the yard accumulate all that heat and it’s a major safety concern when we’re loading thousands of packages. Ice water and other forms of cooling can only go so far. Yes drivers are allowed to put fans in their trucks as most do in my warehouse, but corporate needs to make changes. Either that or all inbound and outbound workers need a massive pay bump. I personally haven’t had issues with the heat bc I’m used to that weather but I’ve seen coworkers pass out, throw up, hurt themselves from condensation being built up causing slippery floors.
I’m only at the job for the benefits.

@@Victims_Vox I work at the hub in Grand Rapids, MI. It's definitely not fun going through it. Drinking ice water and carrying around mini portable fans or ice packs are like the best thing we can do to withstand heat exhaustion.
Recently, I had a UPS delivery driver deliver a package to me who was DRIPPING with sweat!! I had seen the Inside Edition video and I gave him water. He was so thankful. 😢

I just left my UPS job due to unorganization and chaos. They don't want anyone to work, send you home. No flow of air and locks on freezers for their Popsicles for overheating. Crazy.
When I first started at UPS, no trucks had power steering either. Was told the company sold the power steering backto the manufacturer for a discounted rate for the trucks. UPS told the Teamsters that each employee would have to except a $5.00 cut per hour for AC.
I work as a package handler at ups and man those fuckers pushed us on that one week it was 90+ in Chicago. I ended up having a stroke due to the heat on wed I believe which was the hottest day of the week. Loading trailers all day hella packages coming your way. I thought I was a somewhat healthy 19 yr old also did hs sports but nah nobody safe here they really got no consideration of what we feel when working in those conditions. It’s scary how you can quickly collapse.

I also work in the heat so I can relate what these drivers feel. There’s no relief at all during the hot weather. I set up a cooling station for my team and my boss made me take it down because he said it looked like a homeless shelter. I have been requesting a ac trailer since I started working at this place and still nothing. The management team don’t care because they don’t have to deal with it.

Just to be clear, from an old ups worker…. The 10-14hour shifts are given to seasoned or full time employees ( to be full time, you have to had been working there for at least 3 years if not more), and they just started letting people just come in as drivers, you used have to be a vet to get there. Here in 🇨🇦 i asked my mailman if he has AC & he said no - in addition to that he said they are instructed to keep their doors closed while driving for safety, so their vehicles get extra hot - granted it’s not as hot here as in the southwest but still it gets pretty hot and humid
All drivers from 50 states need to ban together and cease all delivery until the company comply with their air conditioner demand.
Money and profit is important, but not at the risk of everyone's life.
The government needs to put a restriction on how many hours they have UPS work.

I’ve been a UPS employee in WI for 25 years and I work in the building. All of us workers in building also deal with extreme heat in summer with no air and extreme cold in winter with no heat. People I work with have gotten frost bite on their fingers. UPS has really gone down the tubes. They don’t care about their employees at all. Lately they can’t find enough employees to work so they work us 5-8+ hours a night with only ONE ten minute break.
I worked seasonal for ups as a feeder driver & I ran for the hills & I’m happy I did

I worked at FedEx for one year, and I remember loading the trailers it was pretty hard and really hot in there, but me myself I only did it like once a week. I can’t imagine doing it everyday with no A/C.

In summer you have to chug water at all times or you will straight pass out from dehydration cause its much more physically demanding and nearly as hot since the flatcar trailers are exposed to sunlight outside the building. I work for UPS and I knew Esteban Chavez, I was one of the last few drivers that spoke to him. 😢😢 I miss him everyday and it's true about this heat dilemma. I myself have suffered heat exhaustion several times the last one almost being a heatstroke.

I worked for large company with same truck, you can not have AC there is no insulation and your constantly opening doors. Alot of drivers also drink sodas instead of water. You can't bring your own water to work? I had a 2 gal. Jug . They can put in misters in truck. It's a hard job working in the heat, I did it 30 yrs.and got heat stroke several times working long hours, and these men are working too many hours, that is the problem!

UPS is an exhausting and exploitative workplace. i love my job, my coworkers, my union, my healthcare. but between the drivers facing these kinds of temperatures in the PCs, part timers destroying their shoulders and backs in the hubs, the massive influx of e-commerce since the pandemic started, etc. things are just entirely too stretched thin. ive worked in the hub for over 2 years now and ive never been without water but our ice machines are often either broken down for just empty because there are only a few of them for the HUNDREDS of people it takes to staff a Los Angeles UPS hub. i show up to work at 4:15am every day and its typically 85-90 in the hub already, because its a massive concrete and metal box that only has AC in the desk jockeys offices. i work part time and make $1.65 above minimum wage, i cannot afford my bills, i cannot afford to move out of my dads house. but because of thee inconsistent start and end times and the DOUBLING of my hours between november and february makes it incredibly hard to find a second job without having to quit before the holidays and find new work after
I thought you guys had a union at AT&T we have CWA techs make good pay. I left hears ago but last time construction and outside techs earned $30 an hr.

@@briang.7206 i know i only work part time but it’s intense, hot, hard work that has a serious learning curve and we deserve to be compensated for it. it doesn’t make much sense to me that we work just as hard as drivers but make so much less than them (drivers top pay is somewhere around $39-41 i believe). it’s a big thing that sean o’brien the president of the teamsters is pushing for. i’m crossing my fingers that this time next year i’ll be signing a contract that bumps my pay to at least $20/hr. i currently make $16.65.
I’m in feeders now, but I remember when I was in delivery, back in 2017 I remember having a package of spray paint cans on the 6000 shelf and one of them actually burst from the heat in the back. Gray paint from the can leaked all over the shelf
I’m a package handler for UPS and I understand this I have had multiple heat strokes in bathrooms of my warehouse afraid that I’d lose my job if I told management and I’ve thrown up in my truck while loading multiple times
UPS's drivers are fortunate that Teamsters have new leadership. The prior leaders - when dealing with UPS - were go along to get along and you rub my back and I will rub yours. Term limits for elected union leaders might be helpful.
Let’s not forget, those supervisors and center managers are in air conditioned offices while they tell us to work faster.
Amazon has ac but we can’t leave our vans running. The back areas of our step vans get just as hot, I know ups has it worse but I think every single delivery company needs to care about us delivery drivers
