However, if she died in her 50's like his dad, well wtf does he have to look forward to? ; 2) Escape to a country with no extradition. This is a big ask as it uproots his little girl, his bitch wife isn't likely to want to go along with it/him, and don't get me started on his druggy son. But, there are shall we say entities who can get them onsite, if not onboard - that's Eugene's problem.
He should have kept it to himself. By handing Tony a large amount of cash, Tony saw Eugene’s worth as an earner and wanted to keep him. Thank you for taking your time and doing an episode of Eugene. His death scene next to Adriana is probably one of the most distrusting scenes of the series. He loved his family like you said, he way trapped like a RAT 🐀
I wouldn’t have told Tony about the money. Like someone, i think Christopher, said - you’re only as good as your last envelope. Eugene could’ve done whatever he wanted and paid his dues, maybe even a bit more, out of his inheritance. He could’ve engineered a scenario where he was Tony’s Best Earner. I completely forgot Gene was compromised - one of the drawbacks of watching the show in 2min clips on YT lately. Unsurprisingly, Tony and the Feds both “reject” his move to Florida (as if he had a choice). Even if he caught Tony on a ‘good day,’ the Feds would never let him go - they’re Vampires. Eugene kept his Honor, and went out like a man, on his terms. I believe he handled the situation the best way he could.
Indeed that money could have been used to make himself quite the earner until feds let him go . Property, shylocking etc he'd be in great position to be a top earner for Tony The dream house be used as holiday home. Tony didn't need to know shit
Eugene imo should have secretly offered Tony a retirement deal (€1 million cash goes directly to Tony no one else needs to know!). Eugene could have agreed to be a contact down in Florida so he’d be close but not too close. Let’s be honest, we all know he’s not the first.
1:48 Interesting, I heard a slightly different explanation. Basically, David Chase and the writers had 70% of the season 3 storyline mapped out and then suddenly Nancy Marchand died so they decided to basically start from scratch and write Livia off altogether. As such, Tony needed a new antagonist for the season (Livia was going to rat on him to the feds about the airline tickets) and the new character in development known as Ralphie was given a bump up to be the new foil for Tony. Realizing that a much more well known and stronger actor was required to play the part of Tony's new headache, Joe Pantoliano was quickly hired and Robert Funaro (who as mentioned, was still under contract) was given a new, but lesser role to play instead.
Eugene's biggest error was telling Tony anything. If he would have just taken the money and left one day/never to return, then I am fairly sure Jersey would have thought him dead and blamed NY.
Why do you assume Tony didnt know about the money YEARS before? You think Eugene wouldnt talk about the windfall he expected before his folks kicked it?
Offered all of it to Tony (for him to accept in secret) in exchange for allowing him to retire. While this would have limited his ability to buy his retirement home in Florida, it would've given him the way out he was looking for. Tony was too greedy to have turned down that offer.
So he should have given Tony all of his money and then retired when he wasn't financially ready to retire? And then maybe Tony doesn't even honor this deal anyway?
It makes perfect sense that Tony was killed by Eugene's wife. The way the show gives subtle clues and hints is amazing storytelling and writing. Tony absolutely had to go. He was a terrible person. If 'Gene's wife did in fact order the hit on Tony it's quiet fitting that the last kill on the show is done by a woman.
Best thing for Eugene to have done would be not to mention the inheritance to anyone. Then tell Tony that he developed bronchitis or something and that he wouldn't be able to hang out on New Jersey construction sites in the winter anymore. Ask to be "transferred" to Florida like Ralph was. Since Eugene was a middling earner, Tony might have been convinced to go along with it. Then tell the FBI that Tony ordered it. This would force the FBI's hand. They would have to either let him go and he would become a less valuable informant, being thousands of miles away and running small rackets. Or they would have to arrest him and then he could make the decision whether to testify or not. Maybe it would be better to take 5 or even 10 years to not have to rat. Either way, once he finally got to Florida, he'd have to get some income anyway. He was in his early 40's and 2 mil isn't going to hold a family of 4 forever.
It was the dumbest thing ever. All he had to do was say he had a package in Fort Lauderdale. That was doing big numbers and send Tony a little bit of scratch every month. And the story you buy your way out.
The story line was stupid though I liked the episode. A more realistic situation would have Eugene use his own contacts (all mobsters and criminals have contacts outside the family and mob in general for such situations) to set up a new life for him and his family under news names, probably in the Keys and take off. Tony nor anyone else could have found him, including the Feds who would have assumed Tony found out Eugene was a rat and whacked him. It would have literally been a very easy getaway.
Never should've told Tony about the two million dollars. Should've packed up the car, and drove to Mexico or Canada with his family, cash on hand. Fresh start in a new country.
I always wondered why there was no blowback for Eugene beating up Little Paulie like that. He's Paulie's nephew and Paulie lost it when Chris threw him out the window in season 6
What I am wondering is why the hell didn't he ask the FBI first if he could even move to Florida before bringing it up to Tony? Telling Tony anything about your plans before they are fully developed is a terrible idea.
I WOULDVE FAKED MY DEATH AFTER THE HIT IN BOSTON, RIDE OFF A BRIDGE, BODIES DONT GET FOUND AT TIMES & BEEN CHILLIN IN A NO EXTRADITION COUNTRY & SAID FUCK THE MOB & FBI 😂
The first mistake Gene made was thinking that Tony was his friend or altruistic. Telling him about the inheritance then foolishly offering Tony a cut was just a green light for him to bleed him dry while still retaining his services.
Eugene could have just left.. by season 6 esp towards the end.. Tony’s crew was basically destroyed. Wouldn’t have mattered. As you stated.. if Tony couldn’t get ahold of Furio or keep tabs on Ralph when he was in Florida.. Tony wouldn’t have given a shit about Eugene after a while..
I believe it was that same episode where Eugene and Chrissy both got made - Tony said to them both, "Once you enter this family, there's no getting out." Had he not been cooperating, simply disappearing may have worked; however, if Jersey wouldn't locate him, the Feds eventually would've. Basically, he was trapped and there really was no way out.
His best bet would have have gotten Tony on tape talking about something illegal, but would have to have had something more sophisticated than a running tape recorder and wire. Some kind of custom digital recorder built into a necklace or belt buckle perhaps? That kind of thing existed then, but was expensive... but hey, he's got 2 million dollars, he could pay for it himself if the FBI wouldn't/couldn't.
He couldn't have done half of these things because of the fact that he was snitching specifically on the Soprano crew. He couldn't go to Florida. He couldn't go anywhere.
Great video. He was screwed all the way around. If you can, please do a video on how effective Tony would’ve been if he’d included Carmela in his business. She ended up giving him a lot of great advice in the later seasons. She was the boss of the wives. “What are you gonna do?” 😂
I don't see this. If Eugene had stopped cooperating with the FBI they would have just charged him and his son with whatever they had over them and they'd go to prison for a long time. The whole point was he was totally screwed.
Eugene should have just done a Henry Hill... sure there’s no action. He would have to wait around like everyone else. He wouldn't even get decent food. Right after he goes in to witness protection he would order some spaghetti with marinara sauce and instead get egg noodles and ketchup. He would be an average nobody. He would get to live the rest of his life like a schnook.
Eugene's wife was not a good mob wife. You know what this is. You can't go around insisting that he gets out. You shouldn't have married him in the 1st place. Charmane could complain to Artie about Tony all she wanted. But Artie wast a made guy and Tony, to his credit, kept Artie from veering too close.
i don't know if it's the case, but he should've lawyered up. With Tony's murder order told to the Feds, they would have had to pull him out and end the case with what they had, enough for RICO and conspiracy to murder to boot. The lawyer would've negotiated for immunity or WP with no prison time to button up his crucial testimony.
I never thought Eugene got some sort of inheritance from a relative. I had always assumed that Eugene just made that up to score points with Tony by giving him “his taste” That was money straight out of his pocket, giving it to Tony as a “Hey look I got money from a dead relative. I totally didn’t have to tell you about this at all, but I’m giving it to you because I’m such a good earner and I’m loyal. So please let me go to Florida”
When I first watched this, I thought Tony saying "you wanna put some money on the street down there?" was his compromise solution. If EP didn't ignore this, it would've been his shot to not get out, but to keep his distance.
I dont know why he killed himself. I honestly cant comprehend it. He was already a rat, so just keep ratting and then go in witness protection with your two mill. I think his wife nagged him to death about moving to florida.
The answer is no Eugene was talking to the Feds after Raymond had a heart attack and the Feds was the one who made up the idea of him and his family going to Florida. Eugene took his life because he realized he was not only the track of going no where or moving up in Tony crew, but there was many seasons you forgot Eugene was apart of the crew only when you saw him at the construction site with Vito, little Paulie, and Patsy, but he wasn't even a earner in the crew.
Step 1. Never tell the mob much less Tony about the inheritance. Step 2. Tell your wife about the rock and hard place you’re in. Tony and FBI. Dancing around the subject or trying to come up with an excuse only made her angrier. If she knows her and the kids are safe with 2 million in the bank, I’m sure she’d relocate and wait it out. Step 3. Explore an exit strategy with the fbi and Tony and see which outcome is better for the family. The change in scenery and rehab for the son will help buy time and heal the core family. I’d even suggest paying cash for a house and using the leftover to buy an apartment complex. That way you’d have recurring revenue to stay above water.
Another extremely interesting one. As far as telling Tony about the money, I don't even see why his wife had to know about it. The FBI was his main issue. He might have already made the optimal choice 🤷
His only real hope was to go off the reservation, just straight up packed a bag and never looked back. The problem is he couldn't ask anyone for help because Jersey would have put the screws to whoever helped till they gave him up, and the feds would have found him if he remained in the country. His only hope was to take the money and go somewhere that doesn't have extradition laws.
It was pretty delusional to think he’d be allowed to just move to Florida like that. Especially considering the feds had their hooks in him. Felt bad for the little girl. Her dad self deleted, her brother an addict, and her mother was a wreck. That Eugene story in the first episode of the last season really set the stage for how dark it was going to get. By the time they get to Tony , Sil, and Bobby everything was falling apart. Even if he had not lost his life, Tony was going to prison for the rest of his life. Even as an informant he wouldn’t have been out by 75-80 years old.
What about finding a way to clip the major players of the Sopranos family? For example clip Silvio in the strip joint. Of course not after an appointment the clip Tony
Please note: you may notice some choppiness in the opening minute of the video. This is because I had to cut out some clips due to a copyright hit

Property, shylocking etc he'd be in great position to be a top earner for Tony
The dream house be used as holiday home. Tony didn't need to know shit
Eugene went out like a punk. With $2 mill he could have put a hit out own Tony. No one would have suspected him.
@@willleon9165you’re screwed once you’re in bed with the FEDS. They are worse than the mob.

Hands down the best Sopranos analysis vids on the tubes.
The references in your commentary to the series is spot on!
Love how the video narrative weaves in offhand dialogue from the series. So excellent.
I was browsing your channel for a video I haven’t watched just an hour ago, I have been blessed

Eugene: *tells Tony about 2 million dollar inheritance*
UA-cam comments: “Very bad, boys. Very bad.”
Eugene Pontecorvo? He's so sweet.
He was like an animal. lol
@@sole__doubt Finn must've confused Eugene with Tony B. That fuckin' animal Blundetto murdered a kid.

Tony would have taken the money and not honored his commitment
@@kelleymcbride4633 Hiighly probable.
You assume Tony honors the deal which he 100% won't
So he should have given Tony all of his money and then retired when he wasn't financially ready to retire? And then maybe Tony doesn't even honor this deal anyway?
It makes perfect sense that Tony was killed by Eugene's wife. The way the show gives subtle clues and hints is amazing storytelling and writing. Tony absolutely had to go. He was a terrible person. If 'Gene's wife did in fact order the hit on Tony it's quiet fitting that the last kill on the show is done by a woman.
One of the best episodes from the sopranos
Me @ 0:44: “heyyyy that’s some guy’s wife come onnn” 😂😂
I love how you drop random quotes from The Sopranos in every one of your analysis ("Its a freekin ace!") lol
This is all very allegorical.
Always with the scenarios
I really feel like in the mid 2000s it might. Think of all the house he could build and rent out
It was the dumbest thing ever. All he had to do was say he had a package in Fort Lauderdale. That was doing big numbers and send Tony a little bit of scratch every month. And the story you buy your way out.
He was very well cast for the role - completely believable as a character..
Little Paulie wasn't made - and he mouth off to Eugene! Besides, didn't I just see 2 *iggahs run that way?
Tony: Eugene did that alone i didn't sanction this
Rope: lone gunman theory
What I am wondering is why the hell didn't he ask the FBI first if he could even move to Florida before bringing it up to Tony? Telling Tony anything about your plans before they are fully developed is a terrible idea.
He should have just used the money to buy a couple of three things.
Honestly he handled his situation the best way a father and husband could.
No the best way would have been not to join the f***ing mob! Once he joined he was in for life.
I agree there was no way out for him. But he knew if he wasn't there his family can get out
Idk, clipping that guy knowing his situation was dumb af.
I'd get out with 2 million
and go where? between the feds and the soprano crew, he’d have to go back to Italy to be safe
Uncle Jr on retirement: "What's this? We're in the Navy?"
The pronunciation of ‘malignant’ is sending me 😂😂
He couldn't have done half of these things because of the fact that he was snitching specifically on the Soprano crew. He couldn't go to Florida. He couldn't go anywhere.
If Eugene would have said, “Hey Tone, here’s 200k, let me retire.” Tony would have said, “You know what, why not,” or something close to it.
no, he would hve stuck out his fat fuckin hand wanting more
Eugene wasn’t a hockey player tho …
Eugene took an oatt!
"Once you enter this family, there's no getting out." Except THAT.
Not told anyone. Earn less, make mistakes, become forgotten, slip away.
And no arugula eithet
I subbed after the quotes you slide in XD
Eugene's wife was not a good mob wife. You know what this is. You can't go around insisting that he gets out. You shouldn't have married him in the 1st place.
Charmane could complain to Artie about Tony all she wanted. But Artie wast a made guy and Tony, to his credit, kept Artie from veering too close.
Eugene was another hint to Springsteen "Wiping our fingers on a Texaco road map"
i don't know if it's the case, but he should've lawyered up. With Tony's murder order told to the Feds, they would have had to pull him out and end the case with what they had, enough for RICO and conspiracy to murder to boot. The lawyer would've negotiated for immunity or WP with no prison time to button up his crucial testimony.
What lawyer? Lawyers, DEFENSE, work for FEDS. They take your money you do the time. Claim they got you a good deal
I never thought Eugene got some sort of inheritance from a relative. I had always assumed that Eugene just made that up to score points with Tony by giving him “his taste”
That was money straight out of his pocket, giving it to Tony as a “Hey look I got money from a dead relative. I totally didn’t have to tell you about this at all, but I’m giving it to you because I’m such a good earner and I’m loyal. So please let me go to Florida”
An “A case for Visiting Day” video would be a hit

i appreciate your videos as I am also a massive Sopranos fan. Thanks you sir.
I always thought the crow was for Eugene and not Chris. Chris just saw it and thought ut was for him
When I first watched this, I thought Tony saying "you wanna put some money on the street down there?" was his compromise solution.
Tony was a scumbag for even taking his cut from Eugene’s inheritance.
Love this channel makes u wana sopranos over and over again such great detail annualised characters of the show fantastic job thanks
Every FBI informant on the show was whacked.
Incompetent and corrupt
One of them died in an agent's car, of being old, I guess lol
OMG how come I never thought of Eugene simply keeping the envelopes coming to Tony while he is away in Florida. Its so simple.
I grew up on Ft Myers Beach in the 1980s. When he mentioned Ft. Myers, it was pretty cool.
This was a good one!
What about finding a way to clip the major players of the Sopranos family? For example clip Silvio in the strip joint. Of course not after an appointment the clip Tony
