I do believe that you have found a unique hobby that gets better with each flight! Being able to observe these scenic places as presented with panoramic views could never be duplicated from the ground! Simply beautiful, especially observing the country side from above is spectacular! Some day I hope to visit these grand places God willing!

Another great video from Wiltshire's Treetop Flyer! Looking up at the copter it reminds me of a pond skater.
Although I travelled to Faringdon on business many times I was not aware of the folly. I never had time to look around me!
Best wishes to you and all the family Sandy.

I showed this video to my 10 year old daughter. She sends her best regards to you mister Flyer:) for those magical views with trees and everything.. tower.. we liked it a lot! Only thing she was worried a bit was that sound of copter motor:) beautiful choice of the music, too.

      Hi Osmo,
The sound of the copter up close is a little intimidating. The rotors are spinning at 10000 rpm. But oh boy it is a great craft. I just have to think it and it flies it.

More cool history. I was curious about why it was called a folly and found this on the website:
“The great point of the Tower is that it will be entirely useless”
Berners’ response when asked by the planning subcommittee what exactly was the point of the Tower.
Bloody brilliant! Well done that man.

Excellent close up of the folly, it looks quite plush inside near the top. I think they open it to the public once or twice a year. Driven past it on the way to and from Oxford loads of times, but never been up close to it. Good camerawork from the quadcopter aswell.

Hey Sandy. Are you sure you weren't a dragonfly or humming bird in a previous life? Your copter films are so natural and easy to look at, it's hard to believe that you are new to this type of videography. Simply awesome. ATB, Ken

      Hi Ken,
I hate commercial jet airlines and the continual noise they make, but I love flight. Before I had my tumour I learned to fly gliders and micro light aircraft. I loved it and learned the pilot skills very quickly, but it was too expensive for me and my health situation wasn't the best for flying so I grounded myself. I knew that on a bad day with the wind in my eye I couldn't see clearly especially in the open cockpit of a micro light. So I had a while of building remote control aircraft and taught myself to fly them but after a while it got a bit boring.
The copter on the other hand can carry aloft a camera and is so much more controllable and adds a new dimensions to things. At the moment I am going through the "Honey moon" period with it, but when things settle down I am absolutely certain it will make a great tool for the videographers arsenal. You should get one, they are easy to fly with a little practice. I would advise spending only a few dollars and buy a small Hubsan quad copter. Learn to fly that then you will be OK to fly the bigger machine. The Hubsan can survive bad crashes where's the larger machine has more inertia and weighs over 2KG. It will break if crashed.
      Sandy

Wiltshire Man Thanks Sandy. Now I know why this type of flight was so easy for you. .....experience .... Your'e a quick learner too. I am very interested in using a drone for videography in places where I camp and hike. At the same time, I am concerned about crashing the drone or loosing it. And I want high quality video. Man, your videography is good in these quad copter films .... But of course, you're a guy who learned how to build quality knives and start a successful small business in record time .... making it look easy, when I know it was not.
I will send you an email later today.
      Peace,
      Ken

KennethKramm Ken, Firstly good video can be obtained from cheap camera like the sj4000 so that lessens the loss should a crash occur. Secondly, you have to come to terms with the fact that one day a crash or loss of craft may occur. The flight control system I have installed is the "NAZA" which uses gps and is a remarkable invention. You can also add a gps tracker to increase the chance of finding a lost copter. If you crash there is a good chance that most componants will be undamaged, and replacement parts are cheaply and readily available now. I record every flight and down load to files on my pc as "stock footage" so if the copter goes west then I have something to show for the loss.. I think I will always have a copter for filming from now onbut ofcourse there are going to be many occasions when it can't be flown due to weather or safety reasons.
The Copter has helped me to
      "Start it up Man"!!!

Wow these videos are fantastic having grown up and worked the land in these areas and shot many pigeons in a field i saw in the footage is great, when are you going to get some footage of barbury, also get up to foxhill would love to see an over head few of where i was born. also farmers would love to see live image of there crops from the sky.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  10 років тому

      Hi Antony,
I plan on visiting Barbury asap. I have driven along the a420 on many times and say lots of bale hides in a field just south of the a420. I think the crop was rape. That was a few years ago. I used to do a lot of pigeon decoying but not recently. I still have my gun but only occasionally use it now.
      Sandy

Ah ok, i had some hides that way a few years back most of my pigeon shooting is done up around foxhill now, will be good when you get up the barbury as i only live 500 yards down the hill from there so may see myself in the garden. bit windy up this way today tho.
      Antony.
