Prayer is NOT forbidden in public schools! What is forbidden is FORCING kids to pray; what IS protected is the right to believe your conscious, and NO religion is to be enforced by the state. People need to know this country’s history…and that couple did not!

I am amazed by a group of people so ignorant of America's history - that the founding fathers were fleeing governmnent enforced religion (Church of England) - so they could have a country where the government did not enforce a certain religion on everyone - where they could practice their own religion with no government interference. These people think religious freedom means forcing their religion on everyone else. They want religious freedom only for themselves and no one else. Then complain that schools aren't teaching history correctly. -- where were they educated?

"One nation under god" was added to the pledge in 1954 and "In god we trust" was adopted by Congress in 1956.

The phrase "one nation under God" is part of the Pledge of Allegiance. The phrase was added to the pledge in 1954, during the Cold War. Some members of Congress wanted to differentiate the United States from the Soviet Union, which was officially atheistic. It wasn't from our founding fathers.

Many founding fathers were Deists. Revolutionary War historians have stated that if Darwin had been alive when the United States was founded then most of the founding fathers would have been atheists. The founding fathers were intelligent, educated, believed in science. They vehemently wanted to keep church and state separate because they had witnessed religious zealotry, bigotry, persecution. They or their ancestors had to flee Europe for religious persecution. Keeping church and state separate keeps both institutions safer.
People nowadays are stupid and greedy. That’s a terrible combination.
Many were not Deists. They were products of The Enlightenment, a time and philosophy which questioned the existence of an all knowing God.

I don't remember if it stayed up but the Church of Satan did actually erect a statue of Satan next to a Christian statue in a public place as a form of protest for religious freedom. I'm pretty sure they dod take it away though once the Christian statue was taken away, either that or they both stayed up.

Many of the founding fathers - Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson are the best known examples - were openly skeptical, and Franklin was almost certainly atheist. Most of the signers and the founding fathers would describe themselves as deists.
