Mate do you work for pure fishing? All your rods and reels from one supplier. I own slammer stickbait set up but also shimano and daiwa set ups and other brands. I truly believe sponsorship or employment is influencing what you say bro
I am sponsored by Penn and have access to the other pure fishing brands 100% Just about anyone that has followed me for a while knows this and how this came about as I am always completely transparent about it... Just like the kayak I’m on, I used Stealth and Penn gear before I had sponsorship, as you can clearly see in my older videos, and then was lucky to gain some support because of the videos I was doing. I never push products and have even shown Penn reels and rods failing on my vids. If you think Stealth were overjoyed with me showing me flip the skiff, you’re wrong 😅 Believe it or not have turned down quite a few big names simply because I didn’t use the product or believe it was something I couldn’t be honest about... at the end of the day I believe that UA-cam is meant to be about the regular guy and not the big tv sponsored guy, that’s the reason I watch UA-cam vids in the first place and started making the vids myself. I hope you stick around and see what I’m about, apart from these rod and reel arsenal vids I rarely bring up the gear and just let the regular use do the talking, if someone asked about it I’m always happy to answer. I guess the proof will be in the pudding over time, I’ve see many go down the other path as their channel grows... feel free to tell me to pull my head in if I do the same. Cheers Rod 👍
Hey All, Thought id pin this comment up the top and address this one... when it comes to sponsorship I hope most of you know how mine came about. I only have a handful of sponsors and they are all brands that I was using or had faith in already. In any case I never want to be the product pusher, if you see what i'm using and think it does a good job then that's great, if you don't like it, then that's fine too. Like I said to Joe above, always feel free to let me know if i'm loosing my way 🤙
RoKKiT KiT I can vouch for everything you’ve said there Rod, I’ve followed you for years and what you’ve said is very true.
@@rokkitkit this video was the first of yours that I have seen, I thought it was like a tackle review. I sell tackle and review it so was interested.
RoKKiT KiT cool you addressed his concern but I hope you don’t give too much energy to this sort of commenting. Anyone who has watched your vids can see your not a mouthpiece and how much passion and joy you bring to the adventures is really genuine. I probably couldn’t catch fish with dynamite and I still think this channel is awesome! Anyway cheers for the escape you provide and do some more catch and cooks!!! 😂🤙🏼
Sidebar: Man the beginning scared the crap out of me. From California lived in Chicago and I’ve always wanted to live abroad and Australia’s climate seems amazing.... but the eight legged creatures 😳😳
Not from Australia myself, but it's bugs insects and spiders are freaking scary lmao.
They are not Venomous but they do grow big that a baby 😂
I have a slammer 4500, been using it little over a year now. Caught my biggest fish on it, a 58lbs spanish Mac using a 20lbs line. Greatest day of mylife🤣🤣🤣
That's a monster!! Congratulations bro. I feel like those days are fuel for the shitty days!!
That is one big macky. Must have fought like a demon on 20lb.
Wouldn’t it be considered a king Mac then
patrick c2 that did happen to my friends, 1 guy lost his twinpower 8000PG and all his jigs🤣🤣🤣 and the other his oceajigger .
Yes! Right on time. Actually sitting on the porch at this moment waiting for my new light popping/medium stick bait/live lining rod to be delivered and trying to decide what reel is going to do all of those things. Thanks so much for this.
Ok now I'll shut up and watch the video :)
I watch all your vids from all over the US. I am a truck driver and your channel is one of my favorite to get inspiration. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks for watching mate 👍
love these videos Rod! and good luck on your next trip
I’m surprised a fishing show deal isn’t on the horizon soon, love your work
You are such a huge inspiration, since finding you over a year ago I've got myself a fishing kayak and i actually found an abu garcia softbaiting rod in the water when i was rock fishing, but i actually discovered pen spinfishers myself and have a 3500 then realised it was the same as you use so that gave me hope it would last a long time and its by far my favourite reel
Cheers mate, glad you having fun out there👌
Awesome video RodKITKIT !! Keep up the amazing work RodKITKIT !! Thanks for putting in the hard work and effort on making these helpful and Awesome videos for us RodKITKIT !! I love the new uploads and videos RodKITKIT !! Cheers William !!
I've had a slammer for a couple years and I used to baby it until I saw your vids. It's a lot tougher reel than I thought!
Channel is cranking brother, much excite, nice one 🤙
That is some good info especially for peeps new to the salt water kayak fishing .you sir are a inspiration. Keep up the good work
Thanks Rod! Knowledge always catches more and bigger fish.
I love this video man. Its good to get your feed back on this set up.. Ive just been using the vertias rods for the last 12 months or so. And loving them. Incredibly great for the price, and really durable.
I also started of with the penn spinfisher v6500. And loved that on my veritas.. and that got me started on the slammer series. So just baught the slammer 3 HS and its a beast of a reel.. worst part though is that your making me even more keen to get a couple more to add to the collection.. haha.. love your vids rokkit!
Thanks for the share mate, the info is very valuable for us crew just starting to ocean fish.
Loved the video Mate!! Thanks heaps for the rundown
Apart from Shimano TLD 10 & 15 I use a Slammer lll 3500 & love it. That's thanks to you pulling that one apart. I have killed so many I was going to give up on spinning reels.
I've run 2x slammer3 high speeds and 3x ssvis for a little over 12 months now. They've been perfect! I've pulled them apart after massive drenchings and they've always been dry internally! 👌
Thanks heaps for sharing Rod, very interesting to see what really capable fisherman are using
Thanks for your wise knowledge once again rod 👍
Just bought a Penn Slammer III with Abu Garcia Veritos 6-10kg! thanks for your videos mate
Bought a 4500 slammer cos of you and love it 😀 wanting a 6500HS now too.
Seen may of your vids, same vid viewed multiple times and enjoyed them. Sponsored or not, the gear you use - they work. Penn brand are affordable workhorses...end of banter.
Awesome vids bro!!!! Thanks
Thanks mate, you answered all my questions!
Always a good vid checking out someones else gear and i funnily enough just bought two new rods and a reel and a truckload of fishing tackle..shore-based fishing..
I'm really glad you made this video :-) been looking forward to learn about your setup in terms of braid strength and capacity. Thanks:-D
A pleasure to watch you fish - also your recommendations hold up - we all know Shimano top end is great but just never on sale and not affordable for most of us. That said, the new Stradic is just in range for price and so I got one and love - also using the new spinfisher and love that as well.
Great vid, I always wondered what kind of rod and reel set ups you used and why. I currently use 6’2” ugly stick and 5500 pen slammer when I go out kayak fishing.👍
Thanks for making this video!
Thanks for the vid Rod. I have been looking to step up my spin reel game. Will definitely look at Penn sealed units. I have always been a spin reel guy, never really liked overheads. Cheers👍
Cheers mate, I've finally found a rod thats purchasesable locally. Thanks
thanks for the "reel" advice also going to look at a 3500 for my next reel, thats about all I need here in Colo.
At 64 years old, I’ve always used Penn reels, as my father and grandfather did. Back then we used 309.s and Senators. Now I have a Battle II 4000 and a Fierce 6000. Btw, back in the day, it was mono or braided Dacron line only!
Love it, and great as always. We miss seen your little boys fishing or just running around:)
Haha, yea it’s always hard to get a the vids done with the kids running around but your right, it’s all part of it. I’m sure they will be back soon😅
Perfect timing Rod - the Penn Jigmaster I just won on Ebay should arrive here in a few days! Ha ha!
I've always been mostly an Alvey man, but this last year I used three Daiwa BG 4000s. Two have been great, but one took a knock, salt water got in and it died in no time. Great to hear your comments on the Penn spin reels, will have to give one a go sometime. If you ever get your hands on the new Alvey Orbiters, would be good to hear how they compare. Keep up the good work!
Owen in Okinawa
Keep up the great videos!
Very good info about your reels and rods mate.
Great info, cheers mate. Makes me want to dig my gear out from storage, buy a 2nd hand kayak and go fishing... If i could only find the time.... :)
Abu Garcia 4 Life 👍👍
Great videos! Cheers from Toronto Canada!
I've just bought a sexy red and black Penn Slammer III 6500 HS, and spooled on 455m of yellow 0.28mm 20kg Power Pro braid. I got it thanks to you and your videos. Next I have to find some leader and learn to do a FG knot.
Nice one mate, good luck getting the first fish on it soon👍
Just bought a Torque30 LD, got it spooled with Power Pro 25kg and have got it on a Penn Regiment black ops 6'2" OH one piece. I'm using it for live baiting only. I got draged 3km and spooled on a big Hammer last year. I'm ready for him this time. Can't wait to try it at South West Rocks.
Cheers, BobbyB
Channel is growing big time!
Love the Vid. Good to see good honest reasons on why you have chosen what you have, it's not always about having the lastest Stella and Saltiga.
I fish 2 slammers 5500 and the 3500 both on Veritas rods aswell (such good value for money here in NZ sub $150). For the big boys (Kingfish) I also have a Fathom however I've just got for the 25n.
Keep up the good work!
i fish from a trailerboat, is it worth getting a slammer III?
@@johnmurcott1273 yea, they are solid reels. They aren't the smoothest when comparing to a similar Shimano or Daiwa, but the Drag is smooth and well up there in comparisons.
I would recommend them.
@@catchlesscraig4900 thnks
Was buying a new rod last week. Watched your 2017 video for help/ideas and took a chance on a veritas and a spinfisher 6. I feel vindicated now! If only this vid came out a week earlier! Would have saved hours of indecision!
Thanks for making this mate
Great info! Thank you!
I have a Slammer III 4500 loaded with 30lb braid and Ocean Assassin PE2-4 rod as my go to kingfish setup, but I generally fish over sand, so can take my time playing fish. Love the IPX6 rating on the reel, just what is required on a jetski! I'm considering a Spinfisher VI as a replacement soft bait reel, but a Slammer III 2500 would be even better if Penn are listening!
nothing like black n gold, grabbing my 3rd spinfisher vi next week
I'm a dummy, i missed the part you tore up the torque! figured you'd lost her to the sea. It is funny that you have Penn gear available in Australia that we dont have hear in the US, rod wise; reels are the same. I wish they'd make a slammer three in 2500, but they do have the VI in 2500. Cheers man, good stuff as always.
Yeah, your primarily the main reason I pulled the trigger on selling my Daiwa 4000 & 6500 setups to instead get more Slammer 3's. I've already got one 4500 Slammer and it's my primary setup. I wished we lived closer because I love to primitive camp and fish! I get a decent chance to do both here in Florida, but we don't have the beautiful reefs like you have here on the Gulf of Mexico. Cheers!
Parabéns Amigo!

Great Vid Rod was interested in what gear you were using thanks mate
Rocking the studio ghibli shirt .👍👍👍👍👍
Yep got to love the Miyazaki👌
Can vouch for the slammers on the kayak, constantly getting soaked and have dropped my 4500 multiple times under water accidentally for 30+ secs and still feels like new lol
Yea they can take a good dunking and just keep going👌 so good!
Lol so glad I am not the only one that dunks my reel in the water when I get tip wrapped 😂😂😂😂
Man I love your vids, I am at a point I want to move to Australia
Great vid . Thank you
I use a Penn slammer paired with an ugly stick for power and a shimano socorro paired with silstar crystal tip for speed and a fin nor bait feeder for barra. I will look up the Abu veritas rod for my next flicker...thanks rod
The same here...ugly stick with penn slammer...its an ubeatable combo for pretty much everything. Lake...sea...boat...nothing will beat that combo!!
Got 2 slammers great reels
Hey Rod, I'm fishing off a jet ski and couldn't agree with you more about needing reels that are, or are almost, water tight. I'm currently using good quality Shimano spinning reels and a Maxel overhead reel for jigging but will be replacing the spinning reels with Penn Slammer III's when the Shimano's die. I use reel covers but the reels still end up getting wet as it's too fiddly to cover the reels in between each fishing spot so they are usually only covered for the trip out and the trip in.
You Islander people are crazy. I would be freaking out about that spider in my house. Trying to capture it and take it outside, or if it hid in crevice trying to kill it. Anyways I ended up buying a 4500 sized slammer because of your videos. Handles everything here in California on party/cattle (head) boats up to school sized tuna and yellowtail (king fish) up to 25 lbs. My girlfriend and young nephew love it. Here in California tho we are still very much in love with conventional over head reels. You will always get a offhand comment from even other anglers and the crew sometimes if you are using a spinning fixed spool set up. I still use my modded out penn jigmaster and squidder from around the 70s sometimes for kicks. Both are older than I am by at least 22 years. Mostly I use my daiwa \avet overhead reels on a deck hand style rod.
If fishing seabass or rockfish I'll use a Lexa 400 or luna 300 with a phenix black diamond inshore rod. Thank you for your video, excited to see what you put out this year.
Holy crap! Scared the crap out of me. I got lots of those In my house and they scare the hell out of me. I have arachnophobia. How can you get so close to it!. Oh great advice and knowledge on reels too.
Love the shirt mate
Love the vid mate. Could you tell us about your marlin gear? Thanks!
Thanks for the information Rod, cheers 🤙🏻. If it were me, I’d remove the fishing gear and family and burn the house down with that spider in it. Just nope!
Picked up my new Slammer 6500 and Assassin rod. Was a great review dude! Good reviews on it here in NZ, I need to chuck some braid on it, any recommendations?? Was thinking 50lb, not sure how much metres though, what’s the capacity? It’s going to be a multi reel for stick and surf so maybe half braid and mono?
Hi again, When you purchased the true kit discovery, did you have to pay an import duty separate to the true kit cost of delivery to Aus?
my dream fishing gears, what is the deference between 2:17 and 3:47? what is the special function of each? Thank you for answering.
Nice vid Rod. How do the line rollers and bearings hold up? Is washing them off with fresh water after using in sw enough together them through to a service? I always give a drop of reel oil but never know if it is over kill! Cheers Dave
Yep I just give my reels a good hosing after use and that’s it. The ipx6 sealing protects everything in both spool and main body. The only one that is close to getting exposed is a sealed bearing so you should be pretty good. Count hurt to give a little oil though, one place I do lube when needed is the bail arm and spring👍
Bought a slammer III 4500
Nice reel. Up a tad heavy. Out of the hobie though. Not such a big issue
I own several Penn Spinfisher reels and a Slammer III 3500 reel! It’s so nice having reels that you just hit with hose at the end of the day and there good to go! What’s the longest rod length that will fit in the fish hatch on your Stealth Profisha 475?
Yep I just give them a good hosing and you done! I can fit around a 7’4” rod in 👍
Hey Rod. Another great vid. Do you have braid on all you spinning reels? And do you use a leader, if so what size and knot do you use?
Yea I use braid on all my reels now, I like the line sensitivity and line capacity. Line rating depends on the reel and target but I only use two knots these days, unit knot to hook or lure. Double uni for braid to leader. If I need to cast with thick line I’ll use a FG so it runs through the guide better👍
I have Slammer III 4500. My target for this year to have a Spinfisher VI 4500 or 5500. Wish me luck!
penn 😍 my dream set up . its too expensive in philippines . i cant afford it .
Hey Rod do you have any videos of how you set up your Rod for catching bait fish?
Thank you soo much for the video. I have a tackle question.
I fish my kayak in south coast of UK. I want to purchase the Veritas rod for using it for my lure and mainly jigging (when it is clear enough here). I usually need a jig or jighead between 20-60 grams (usually savage gear sandeel or black minnow soft plastics). Which Veritas model would I need for this type of fishing? The fact it is rated like a rod 6-10kg make me a bit confused. I pare it with either Penn Battle II 4000 or Daiwa BG 3000.
Will be much appreciated if you can advise.
@RokKit Kit would you be kind to reply my question about the Veritas rod?? Many thanks
Have you ever tried WFT Strong Braid to get more meters on the 5500 reels? I use the 32kg for metals from the rocks. At .22 i get close to 450m on my 5500 shimano baitrunner
Hey nice video just subscribed
What was the light veritas rods rating with the black real with 10 lb line
I AM A BIG PENN FAN
Appreciate video informative.
I own 3 of the abu Garcia veritas rods and I find that sometimes the hook holder (small metal loop) that is on the bottom of the rod before the grip catches the line when I cast. It's not a common thing but I feel like if it didnt have that for me I would find it to be a much better rod
tape it over with electrical tape :)
Hey man ide love to own the kayak you have however I have a seak rapid atm ! I use it in the tweed river , would it handle going out to the areas you go ??
love your work RoKKit Kit just an idea if you want to before you talk about what your going to do in your next awesome video just do a little talk about this and your sponsorship and how you are not one of these guys that do alot of reviews and you wont say how good something is when its not just because you are sponsored by them cant wait for the next video I have watched your work from all most the beginning um was thinking if you were interested chuck a few crab pots out and do a couple of river vids catching barra and Jack and im missing seeing you cook up a storm would love to see you do a few more catch and cook at home churr mate tight lines
Nice new video
I just got my first penn reel, the 5500, slammer 4. what pound braid do you put on your 5500 reel please?, thanks
I reckon rod manufacturers should state an 'effective length' which is the length from the centre of the reel stock to the tip. Gives a better description of the overall dimensions
How ya doing Rod? I have been enjoying your vids and adventures for a few months now and so I finally went and purchased a 2020 Hobie PA12 w/360 drive, Garmin Echomap UHD 93sv with Panoptix Livescan, a Yakima easyrider trailer to haul it on. I'm going on my first kayak fishing excursion tomorrow morning. Thanks for the inspiration my friend, I don't live by the beach anymore but used too, but now I am in Colorado Rocky Mountains, so plenty of fishing here just not as big of fish lol, on another note have you heard of Twitch Live Streams? would love to see you do some live streams, anyway keep up the good work!
Hey mate, good to hear you’re getting into it all and getting out there! Yes I have looked at twitch, even started an account but never did anything with it. I have done a few live streams on UA-cam but to start from scratch on twitch got put on the back burner... probably should have though as the IRL stuff is growing fast👍
@@rokkitkit Twitch is booming, alot of people following their dreams and getting rewarded on that platform. Would be cool being able to chat live with your fans, anyway love the vids, have a great day!
What size would you recommend to chase bull sharks with and how heavy of a rod
Do your slammers make a knocking noise when you’re reeling it in? Mine sounds like the spool is too loose around the base of the rotor. I checked the main shaft/pinion and both looked good.
In general no, I have one of the High speeds that does have more of a deeper rougher sound to it but it feels fine and I’ve not had an issue with it so far👍
How can I put a black handle with an EVA foam power knob on my 4500 slammer 3? are there parts from other reels that would fit?
Can someone with a lot of rod/reel knowledge give me advice? I’m setting up a rig for tarpon, cobia, bull redfish, and sharks. It’s got to be cheap, last, and be a spinning set up. After doing research I decided on a Penn 850ssm, Penn allegiance II heavy, fast action 1 piece 7ft rod, 65lb braided with 80lb mono liter, and some large swim baits. Total cost is 230$ shipped. Are there better options for the money? Will the penn 850ssm hold up to those bigger fish? Is heavy action enough or should I get the extra heavy rod? Thank you to anyone that replies.
Hi you’re so cool and awesome I like watching all your video ..dreaming to have one of your fishing reel I love onshore casting but can’t afford to buy one...
Hey Rod, love your vids! Had a qq?? I got a my first 4500 Slammer III reel delivered today and the first thing I normally do is change it from left hand retrieve to right hand retrieve. Just feels more comfortable for me that way. Normally this is a piece of cake but I am scratching my head with this one. I see all you slammers are right hand retrieve. Did you have to take the whole thing apart and rebuild it the other way around?
Should swap over super easy. Just wind the handle handle in reverse until it comes off, then take off the end cap on the opposite side of the hole and swap them around👍
@@rokkitkit weird thing is that it has no thread to screw in on the right hand side. All my other PENN fixed spools is an easy swap over but does but not seem to be the case with the Slammer III 4500 for some reason. Cheers for the reply though and keep the videos coming!
That 1st abu rod the 7'2 6-10kg is it a 2 piece?
Iam sad just packed all my rods into a container bound for Tasmania but soon I will be with them again
Only use one brand of braid? Or different brands? Do you you spend a lot on the expensive braids or will the cheaper ones be ok?
I’ve used a few different brands, I have a few still with Siderwire Code red, the metered braid is Penn fathom but I need to find another colored braid as they stopped making it 😢 the new yellow & clear spooled reels are Berkley X9 which I’m liking 👍
Bought some 8500 slammer 3s, gonna trial them on southern bluefin, big albacore, stripey trumpeter and big king flathead. We'll see how it goes but i'm confident they'll do the trick. All these trips around the place and you still havent come to Tassie? C'mon mate. You wont find diving and fishing quite like it anywhere else in the world.
Nice setup, you should get Penn to sponsor you 😃
Haha, yea I’m lucky to have Penn as a sponsor, there’s no way I’d be able to afford this many reels 👍
Nice vid, what lb line are you generally using ?
It depends on the setup and target, but for summer Mackerel mostly 30lbs👍
Great video. What's the bag limit on Huntsman?
No bag limit but they need to be double the size of this one😆
