    We pastored in Cortez for 5 years before we had to leave 10 months ago. We actually lived in Cortez for almost two years before we moved to Durango to be closer to Mercy Hospital where my wife and I worked. We loved driving into Cortez every week. We loved the people there, in Durango, Dolores, Towaoc and the entire Southwest Region. We miss this area and the people so much. We will cherish and be grateful for the time we were there.

      Hi, Rod.... The wife and I both like Cortez. It's still like Durango USED to be. Durango is so crazy busy now. We worked in Durango part of the summer of 1998, and it was a lot more laid back then. Thanks for watching and commenting....

      I agree. I miss them too. That drive coming from Durango (through mancos valley) is one of the most beautiful drives ever and I long for it.

    My family moved there in the 1920's. My dad was born there in 1947. It sure is nice to see everything "modern"!!!

      Hi, Kristi! A lot of the Colorado mountain towns have "gone upscale," with outsiders and outside money, but Cortez is still like a working people's town....and I like that about it!

    I grew up in Cortez back in the 80s. Looks about the same. It was a big thing when McDonalds came to town. Thanks for the tour!

      LOL! Love it! It was a big thing when McDonalds first came to town here as well. Thanks for watching, and for sharing your story....

    Thank you for your windshield tours . I really enjoy them. I guess the hipsters haven't invaded Cortez yet. Nice😊

      Thanks, Lynda. Cortez seems to still be kind of a "working people's" town....and I like that. It's always good to hear from you ....

    It is actually th middle school on the right at the beginning of the video and the high school is behind the Walmart. Most purple go to Durango or Farmington to do their shopping.

    • @chuckjacobs-arizona7698
      @chuckjacobs-arizona7698  5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the correction, Kim! I apparently thought that was the high school because the football field is there. It looked to me that Cortez had pretty much everything you might need shopping-wise. We liked Cortez. A lot of vacant commercial buildings though....that one whole shopping center on the east side of town appeared vacant. Thanks for watching and commenting....

      Yep like clothes, used to go back to school shopping in either Farmington or Durango for the malls . Etc..just Walmart and stage. They used to have a K-mart like 20 yrs ago lol. I lived out in Lewis. I miss this lil city and hope to visit it soon, maybe go to Mesa Verde. And lake McPhee was it? 😅 Thanks for posting, really nostalgic

    🫢🫢 I use to live here and worked. I think about 4 years ago and I got stuck in this town during the pandemic. I could not go back to oringle place I lived with my mother.💪💪 I was amazed i make it through that time. 😊😊 I would turn back the time and did more things or did something else besides staying on wrong side of the town.👍👍👍👍

      Cortez is another place that hasn't changed a lot over the years. Durango and Telluride have changed so much that they are practically unrecognizable from what they used to be. I like Cortez....just a little too much cold weather for me....

    Cortez began as a farming area to supply the mining towns to the North with food and hay. It still is a farming area, along with serving tourists going to Durango and Telluride. It also is the supply town for the oil and gas industry on the Ute and Navajo Tribal lands.

      I like Cortez, James. It hasn't been ruined by all the new folks moving in and trying to make it into "Cali-rado." You know what I mean....

    Winters...20 years ago were not that bad. Snow usually melts in one day, only one time did I see a big snowfall (in Mancos) of 3 feet overnight. It is more a farm and toursit community. It has grown as far as businesses seem concerned, and they there is the view of the LaPlatas. They get some snow. Oh I only saw below zero one time in Cortez, it is rare. I am in Nampa Idaho now, just having moved away from the communist state of Washington. Thanks for the memories.

    What RV Park do you recommend?

    • @chuckjacobs-arizona7698
      @chuckjacobs-arizona7698  5 місяців тому

      Hi, Michele.... We stayed a week at WestView RV Resort, between Cortez and Dolores. Their per-night rate was pretty expensive, but if you stay a whole week, their weekly rate wasn't bad. It's new and clean, with all the normal amenities. I did a video about it. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Love synchronized street lights! Gas is up to $7 dollars a gallon in Los Angeles! Gnarly! Are you pulling your camper in the video? Is it a 5th wheel?

    • @chuckjacobs-arizona7698
      @chuckjacobs-arizona7698  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi, Bryan. No....not towing in the video. My trailer is a 30' bumper-pull. I used to have a big fifth-wheel....towed it all over the country.
