When he talks about Tommy on Rescue Me it reminds me of A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream where the characters on the show watch their behavior get acted out in a play within a play at the end and they don’t make the connection that the things happening on stage mirror what has been happening in real life. Then Puck makes a statement to the audience watching saying that if they see nothing in this play that mirrors their own lives than the joke’s on them.
I like Denis as a writer and director as well as actor. Laughed my ass off at No Cure in my teens. But it should be noted he stole a lot of his act from Bill Hicks as well as Louis CK.
