One of my favorites, still, is his early role as "Dr. Mark Toland" in "One Life To Live." Also remember his cameo as one of "Oliver Barrett IV's" poker playing buddies in "Love Story". Of his most recent, I've thoroughly enjoyed "Space Cowboys"! A very talented guy!

@@darkl3ad3r What do you think? Just use a bit of logical deduction, here. Does James Lipton get a bad wrap? No. He's largely enjoyed. TLJ, on the other hand, can be considered grumpy, arrogant, and too cool for school. Obviously, he was referring to TLJ.

@@strats991 in the other comments there are plenty of people saying he came off as bothered and rude for his early attitude about native Americans. On the other hand I've never heard anything negative about Tommy. Not to mention, Tommy is still alive and the guy who claimed to be his driver speaks of his existence in the past tense.

Yes, all he had to say was ‘oh really, can you tell me more, I wasn’t aware “. Instead he doubled down on ‘yes, both Native Americans’. As if all tribes are the same. Sheesh..it’s basic knowledge of the differences Mr. Jones was trying to say yet Lipton made it awkward by being dismissive.

  • @eileenhetherington3704
    @eileenhetherington3704 5 місяців тому +161

Tommy tries to correct Lipton about his heritage. Lipton
begins by not knowing that Jones is a Welsh name.....not a good start. Lipton then is dismissive of the difference between Comanche and Cherokee. Cherokee were/are an agrarian and peaceful tribe. Comanche were known for their aggressive and violent nature. Lipton was unprepared and I think a bit off kilter for the remainder of the interview. He missed an opportunity to be educated and it was obvious he knows nothing about Native American history. Tommy Lee is wicked smart and I think Lipton was a bit intimidated.

I first decided to study Mr. Jones after VHS came out and I rented Black Moon Rising. Not an epic character but done so flawlessly you were convinced this man was out there somewhere. I've never seen Mr Lipton treat a guest the way he did Mr Jones. He embarrassed himself in the way he handled the issue of Mr Jones' Native American heritage. He was a breath away from rude. Why?

Most folks don't know the intricacies to be attributed to each indigenous nation. I don't believe rudness was his intent, he only exposed his ignorance.

When Tommy Lee made the comment that he believes is acting skills came not from the air but from the dirt everybody broke out and laughter. It was a serious comment accompanied by inappropriate laughter from the audience. Look of confusion on his face at the outburst made me feel sad he wasn't being taken seriously. After this, I guarantee you he'll never do another interview again

That football story makes sense that he expresses emotions the way he does. My entire confidence in radical noisy activism from the 70s came from a lot of success in track and field...narcassistic and egotistical bottom line which makes confidence and adventure so simple

Tommy Lee Jones role in "The Fugitive" was great and deserving of praise, but Ralph Fiennes deserved the Oscar more for his chilling portrayal of Amon Goth in Schindler's List. One of the greatest performances of banal evil on film.

Nah, if Ralph Fiennes deserved to win he would have won. He did not win because Tommy Lee Jones really stood out in his role. He elevated the material he had to work with, were as Fiennes just did a great job with the material he was given.

James Lipton screwed up by being dismissive about the difference between Cherokee and Comanche. He should have accepted the correction and moved on.

Mr. Jones reveals his Indigenous American Heritage with his response to his Blood Quantum and Tribal Affiliation among the Comanche People.
Hundreds of American Tribes, languages, Traditions, Culture, History and Religion were lost with European Arrival.
Millions of Indigenous Lives lost for hundreds of years.
Pre Arrival Indigenous American populations have varied estimated numbers ranging 8 - 21 million.
The Native American population in the United States reached its lowest point in 1900, when it was about 237,000 people.
In 2021, there were 9.7 million AI/AN people (alone or in combination), comprising 2.9% of the total U.S. population of 329.5 million. This is an increase of 86.5% from the last Census.
Mr. Jones explains Comanche is absolutely untrue and in fact he is of Cherokee Heritage.
    Respect Mr. Jones !!!

There was NO made Mention ; of Tommy Lee Jones as a Supporting Actor in Love Story w' Ryan O'Neill and Ali McGraw , nor the Lead Role in Black Moon Rising. BOTH are Great films ; that I'm Certain , Many-people whom have Seen these movies would-Agree!😳/🤓

Love Black Moon Rising. Rewatch it frequently. Have a great fondness for Back Roads too, although I've heard that Sally Fields was not TLJ's favorite costar. The River Rat is almost unknown, but it's another tour de force for Tommy.
