Wow, A really awesome video. I have never seen this repair or problem on a car before. It's always great to see and learn something new. It seems like the factory would have wrapped that whole assembly in plastic or something to keep the rust out. But like my brother says. They don't want things to last forever, lol. Jim, I hope you have a Blessed Fall So Far.
Just a tip and I don't know if it works for anything else but in my 2002 Chevy Tracker, if you turn the nozzle upside down, push it all the way in and let it rest against the fuel door, it pumps with no problem!
Fuel site technician here, don't do that. The nozzle will not function properly/ shutoff properly when it is upside down. It can lead to Fuel getting all over the place and create a fire hazard.
I'm having this problem on my 1997 F 250 with duel tanks, but only one tank gets used. Could this be reason it won't take fuel? It didn't have this problem until a shop replaced the fuel pump.
Multiple videos in replacing parts, but for some it makes sense to know the why certain component is actually failing, I watch this video as many other videos and all just replace the canister but no one said why is bad or what is bad in it. Reading the comments found out that by overfilling the gas tank some of that gas will pass to the canister and then damage the screen that hold the charcoal in it. Is easy to replace parts but some will like to know what actually went wrong. Hope this helps anyone, Thanks to "he's the Master " your comment makes more sense than watching 100's of videos!
Thanks. Have a 05 Volvo S60 2.5t found out that the fuel filler neck vent pipe was leaking. Part discontinued through the manufacturer. Garage couldn't find one in my area. So they used epoxy. Picked it up and went to a gas station and can't put gas in my car. Alot of pressure coming out of the fuel filler neck. I know it is a emissions system problem. So I hope that the manufacturer still makes the carbon canister
They’re videos here on UA-cam that show exactly how to take apart the canister, clean it out, replenish with new charcoal, seal it back and presto, money in the bank.
@angelocarazas1640 so yes I did. I ended up empting out the Canister and changed the evap as well there was a lot of coal or what ever those pebble things are , once I emptied the box I put everything back together , unfortunately it still kept happening. So I had to pull everything back apart ehat I ended up doing was disconnecting all the thick hoses off from the box and the gas tank and using a vacume to vacum out anything out if them and yea there was still a lot more pebbles on it. Once I did that I put everything back together and i didn't have the issue again.
I don’t think so, I’ve disconnected my hoses and for a while I was able to get a little more gas in the tank, but recently it seems like that’s slowly stopped working and I’m back to getting only a gallon in at a time. I’m going to replace the canister so hopefully it helps but if not I’m clueless.
@@bigguiseppeI replaced my evap canister within the last yr and now this BS 🤦🏻♀️ now it makes sense why the codes weren’t clearing, my mechanic was in denial 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Over filling the tank is the worst thing anyone can do. Eventually the gas gets into the EVAP canister may melt away a protective filter screen so the pellets get released and then contaminates the whole system or seals up the filter and blocks the retention of vapors by the pellets. Newer cars may have a check engine light that goes on. Rest it and it comes back day after day. You will need a new EVAP canister!
Sir! I been looking for an answer to why the canister goes bad or more what goes bad in the canister as I took off my canister to clean it up and not knowing what exactly is wrong with it. It makes sense. Thanks so much!!
What do you think if my problem is related to EVAP or sending unit? My gas gauge is stuck at 3/4 (it goes to 0 when I turn off the car) and even though I'm using fuel (it should be maybe 1/4), it is still at 3/4 of tank. I can fill it up to max, until it starts clicking, but it is only 5.7 gallons and then the gauge goes to max, but always gets stuck at 3/4). I know for sure I should be able to to fill up more, but I can't put more. My tank is 16.1 gallons. It's BMW 2008. There is fuel smell inside the car. When I drive the car, then it is less noticeable, but once I turn it off and leave it overnight, then the smell is really really bad. Now, when I filled up 5.7 gallons, I tried to fill up more and it was clicking a lot, so maybe that destroyed EVAP system, not sure (well, probably it was destroyed before considering I couldn't put more then 5.7 gallons). After that I started noticing fuel smell.

This is my second time replacing my charcoal canister. I also changed the vent solenoid on the canister and the problem persisted. What else can it be?
What would cause this to happen intermittently? Mine does this every time I pump gas, but some days it will accept way more than other days.. is it always the canister or could it possibly be the vent valve (that's what someone told me at one point)?
Here is my problem. When I first got my 2011 Ford Fusion, I was able to get my miles-left-over value on my display to say about 350 miles after I filled up my tank at the gas station. Where is it located on my 2006 Impala because mine is not there. Mine just has a round evap solenoid in that area but mine is doing the same thing can't put gas hardly in it
Does this have anything to do with the gas used? I had a 1998 Thunderbird that did this. We would drive forever on four gallons of gas. Finally took the tank off and replaced it. Now, my 2004 Yukon is doing it. Is it the gas I'm using? Thanks.
My mechanic says as long as you are using regular fuel that is not the problem. I thought it would go away if I only used premium fuel. Nope, the engine ran smoother, but the clicking still happened.
Here's what I don't get: people say that the vent valve solenoid is open by default, when no voltage is applied, and it only closes when the computer sends voltage to it. But in that case I don't understand how the vapor canister is able to "trap the fumes" and release them to the engine via the purge valve (which is closed by default and opens only when voltage is applied)? Because as long as the vent valve is open, all fumes will travel through the charcoal filter and out into the atmosphere, meaning that there's no trapping. And to make matters even worse - your fuel gets slowly evaporated that way. Also, many videos have completely opposite explanations which are 100% conflicting, where one guy says the vent valve is a 1-way street for getting air IN the vapor canister, but never OUT, then another guy says the complete polar opposite (only OUT, never IN), then some others say it's a 2-way street for both IN and OUT. I'm completely lost here...

Four years ago I spent over $500 to have my mechanic do this and a year later it started acting up again. For the next three years I found that if I would leave the engine running and hold the nozzle in a certain position, I could fill the tank (2005 Yukon). Well last week that method stopped working too... not good :(
Thanks man I'm going to have my mechanic help me out to fix mine, I've been overfilling my tank because I drive hundreds of miles everyday. Apparently doing that makes this problem appear faster than normal. Mine used to never have this issue and then it just started doing it last week. I hope this is not expensive to get repaired
Hi, do you have any idea, why my car fuel leaks from the tank when the tank is full after filling the gas. It leaks significantly until I stop filling the gas. I checked underneath; it is not from the charcoal canister, it’s from the gas tank. My car is nissan x-trail 2005. It is not leaking from filler neck vent though. We smell gas for few days after filling gas.
What about on a gas tank that takes diesel. There is no evap because it's diesel. Nothing is blocked in the hoses but it's still acting like somethings blocking the line. Can anyone help. Thanks.
The main problem is paying for a new canister. I couldn't have imagined they'd be so expensive for what they are.... a plastic can with some activated charcoal.
@@deniseadam3984 I forget exactly. I know it was in the ballpark of $170. It was for a Camry. As a side, when I got a good look at it it ended up being a spider nesting in the outlet vent tube from the canister. Cleaned it out. Canister was fine.

You can rebuild the old one if you're careful there are UA-cam videos on how to do it basically you're carefully going to cut apart the canister empty out all the old charcoal and a couple of screens that are in there find a material similar to the screens you took out it'll be easy just close is good you can purchase replacement charcoal act like a fish store or something they use for filters Buffalo farm boys use the filters to go above your stove those also catch fumes and have that same charcoal and they kind of fold them over and over inside once you got your screens back in fill it back up with charcoal of your choice J-B Weld plastic weld whatever the case back together and you're good.I like the stove grease filter idea better than the granular charcoal

Thanks Jim first time viewer and New sub from U.P. OF Mich. THANKS MUCH!!!
Thanks for the sub!
How long did that job take you?
I have that problem on a 2011 on a Chevy Impala
Thanks man I'm going to have my mechanic help me out to fix mine, I've been overfilling my tank because I drive hundreds of miles everyday. Apparently doing that makes this problem appear faster than normal. Mine used to never have this issue and then it just started doing it last week. I hope this is not expensive to get repaired
It also puts strain on everything including your pump. For what? An extra half gallon? Really? Lmao Smh
Well no need to ask if you live in the rust belt 😆 Great job. Thanks for sharing 👍
Jim’s accent makes it obvious too. 😂

My truck came from Ohio I’m in pa the things rusting apart and so many things wrong with it
Fuel vapor canister problems.
Is this the gen2?
Can that cause misfire?
Im curious about this two because im having bith problems
They changed the canister and blue air through the hoses. The problem still exists. Stiil can’t put gas in. Gas gage works fine
help! i found fuel in my fuel fill vent hose? what is the problem and repair?
Most of the time it is caused buy topping off the fuel tank when the nozzle clicks off.
👍, "Thanks for sharing your knowledge".
What about on a gas tank that takes diesel. There is no evap because it's diesel. Nothing is blocked in the hoses but it's still acting like somethings blocking the line. Can anyone help. Thanks.
Can it be the way my lines are running from my tank too the fillies neck where u put fuel in the truck???
Thank You for the great information.
The main problem is paying for a new canister. I couldn't have imagined they'd be so expensive for what they are.... a plastic can with some activated charcoal.
What’s the cost?
@@deniseadam3984 I forget exactly. I know it was in the ballpark of $170. It was for a Camry. As a side, when I got a good look at it it ended up being a spider nesting in the outlet vent tube from the canister. Cleaned it out. Canister was fine.
@@deniseadam3984 you can contact your car manufacturer and explain them the car is generating an environmental problem because of a bad design, they might be able to help you with the full refund of the canister or a great % discount. Asking never hurts my friend.
😭 I can't fix that, I'm a 66 year old woman. This is happening with my old truck. It's a 98 Ford 150. How much will it cost me to get it fixed ?
On the older Ford you should check all the hoses first. The hose often crack
@jimthecarguy
Thank you Jim, I'll have my machanic check it out. Frankly I'm tried of constantly having to put money in the truck, but it's a good truck. Good hauler and heavy where it will protect me. Thank you for replying! 🙋♀️
thank you. learned something today.
My ‘08 Kia optima is having this issue.
Thanks. I was looking for this
New camera...that HD is fantastic.
Hi, what is an average price a mechanic should charge to do this?
Well, I can't answer that, but can tell you when I just priced the part for mine it came up at $441. Just for the part.
Ford f250 part 400.00 plus
Over filling the tank is the root of the problem. When the pump kicks off leave it at that! Do not squeeze fuel into the tank.
Do you know all jeep dodge and Chrysler dealership are charging 2700.00 and they tell you they have to change the gas tank and filler neck to correct that very same problem? why do they do this to people.
Because they’re ice holes ?
lmao bro you faked the pellets. You literally put them as your were doing it. So obvious. 3:06 right hand getting pellets. Left hand mysteriously taking a long time taking the hose off. 3:09 he plops them but they fall out immediately...
You have no clue what you are talking about! "you faked the pellets " WHAT A JOKE!
I saw it too. You definitely faked the pellets. Lol. Sneaky 👿
@@jsims563 You are seeing something that never happened.
@@jimthecarguy I was just busting your balls. I didn't really think you were faking it. Thanks for the video though. Having the same problem on my van.
I changed my charcoal canister an the vent valve solenoid on it an it didnt work
Have you fixed it?
