    Hey don't apologize for pausing or rewinding its much better for you to not miss anything lol so many reactors blabble too much and miss important information on the dialogue 😅

      I appreciate when they rewind, I actually get more frustrated when people miss important details (hidden details are fine since they were made to be hard to catch)

    Frieren really is a fantastic teacher. I was surprised they hinted that so well in the show. Really, she's letting her team get all the combat experience they need while trusting them enough to handle hard fights just at their skill level. It's a good balance. Like Fern is getting a lot of experience and confidence while fighting increasingly hard monsters and Frieren is always there to spot her if something goes wrong. If she was overly protective it can cause Fern to rely on her too much and stifle her growth as a mage, on the other hand if Frieren just said sink or swim Fern could die. Kind of wish all teachers where like that irl.

      Honestly though! Frieren would be a great parent 🤣 No wonder Fern is so competent and confident, especially compared to Stark who just recently joined the party. I'm sure he'll gain confidence quickly now that he's traveling with Frieren!

    2:31 She calls both Frieren and Stark with the -sama honorific, which makes it looks like she is distant emotionally to them. While Frieren is her master, which makes sense why she uses the honorific, Stark is close in term of age with her, so the -sama feels very formal, especially when the use of -san or -kun would be much more appropriate normally. I think she also uses -sama for both Himmel and Eisen and for Heiter it would be interesting to see if she uses it or not. It makes sense with her troubled past (her parent dying when she was so young) why she is more emotionally inaccessible.

    • @CuddlinginCarnage
      @CuddlinginCarnage  8 місяців тому

      YESSSS My thoughts exactly! She's definitely a bit emotionally stunted due to her past and not spending time with kids her age. I'm so curious if she also used the honorific -sama for Heiter too 🤔 Can't wait to see her grow as a person and hopefully make some new friends who she can be emotionally close with!

    I think its incredible that it only took 30 seconds for him to defeat an enemy (obstacle) that he'd been terrified of for three years. Very much how a lot of us are in life... including myself.

    17:49 The original Japanese used for “nonsensical” is “kudaranai” くだらない, which can be translated as “worthless, meaningless, ridiculous,” etc.

    A few bits of your commentary from this episode to keep in mind for the future: 1. Frieren needing some sort of seniors' ID card; 2. Magic as childhood.

      @@CuddlinginCarnage More generally, every time the show raises a question in your mind, I would note it down for later, because you're probably going to get an answer in a later episode, and then maybe a second more complete answer in an even later episode. It's that kind of show.

    Fern's primary character motivation is that she hates wasting time doing nothing. It's been her primary character motivation since episode one. And it always clashes spectacularly against Frieren's own flippant view of spending time (with such a ridiculously long life span, wouldn't you want to take everything slow too? hehe).

    • @CuddlinginCarnage
      @CuddlinginCarnage  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes! And despite their demeanor being similar, Fern and Frieren are veeeery different in how they like to spend their time. It's hard for me to imagine what it would be like having the lifespan of an elf. I'm kind of a workaholic and love to be productive, so that would be a huge change for me. I know Fidel would be exactly like Frieren though! 🤣

    Thanks for another Frieren video! Definitely good story beats ahead for you two to look forward to! For this episode, from what I've heard second hand, in the manga the entire dragon fight was around a single page - seeing it expanded here to actually take just under the 30 seconds Frieren asks Stark to distract the dragon for them to kill it is such a nice touch, and then the moment at the end of Stark realizing he did it alone is great! I wonder if Ariel would turn down a birthday celebration from Himmel? I bet not! Finally, a recent recommendation if you're in the mood for a fun anime that idolizes dwarves and puts them front and center - definitely give Delicious in Dungeon a two episode try, I'm not sure it's the best series to react to being centered a bit around food, and a wholesome show, but Belle will be head over heels for the dwarf for sure!

    The end discussion: Stark will likely be able to relay his adventures to Eisen… because even if he dies while Stark is still on his journey, he should be able to see him in Heaven when they reach the place… unless Eisen dies when Stark is on his way back to see him. That would suck…

    A very poignant scene on this episode is an exchange between Frieren and Stark. They talk about Stark risking his life for the sake of the villagers, and Stark states he's doing it because he's lived with them for 3 years, to which Frieren states:
    That's ephemeral
    And then Stark replies:
    It's an eternity
    Again using the circumstances that surround the characters to make a point about the nature of immortality.

    My little notes of an obsessed Frieren fan :
    Flamme did not say "one day you gonna get attached to humans". Memories are tricky.
    In her flashbacks, we don't see Frieren fight epic battles. In the last few episodes, her flashbacks are mainly about her friends having fun thanks to her magic... Eisen was like Fern : wanting to be serious about it. But thanks to Frieren (and Himmel), he learned to enjoy the small things, the pleasurable moments along the way. To run in a field of flowers and play "princess" with an alcoholic priest. Frieren, at the time, was, as you suggested, a source of fun for the party. The one who enjoyed being alive. The one who liked to make her partners smile with a nonsensical spell like a dancing golem.
    We can think Frieren is "lazy". Or that she enjoys the times of peace, when she can do what she likes. She is not eager to go fight monsters. She'd rather spend a few months browsing magic shops for ridiculous spells. Incognito.
    By the way : she told a lot that that kind of magic is her "hobby". We only saw her at "work" once : with Qual.
    Both Eisen and Stark are cowards. AND great warriors. It seems "fear" is not incompatible with being a good fighter - maybe even it is part of what makes them so reliable.
    It seems this show wants us to understand that, at least in this story, what seems like a "character flaw" may very well not be a flaw at all... Be it being "corrupt" or "alcoholic", "lazy" or " a coward". Maybe the "flaws" are the sign of something else, a side effect of what makes these characters strong. A hint to their true strength.
    "magic is childhood" is an interesting take. What I think is certain, is that for Frieren, magic is a sense of wonder.
    When Stark tells Frieren he is ready to risk his life for the village because he spent three years with them, he forgets one little thing : three years ago, when he arrived here, he already risked his life by standing in front of the dragon. He did not know them yet. But he stood up anyway.
    " Someone who can fight for others", Eisen told Frieren. But Stark does not seem to be aware of it yet.
    Thanks for the reaction - you both have very interesting things to say, and it is rare :) Take your time. Rewind, pause and rewatch as much as you like.

    The author is the GOAT for building a believable world with charming characters. The in-world logic is extensive but believable, and the interconnections of relationships and influence of history is so realistic. Next arc you learn more about demons, about Freiren and Flamme, Fern and Stark get more character growth AND you get some kickass fight scenes that put a lot of shounen to shame.
    Side note - You've already seen it, but it may not have registered - One of the reasons Flamme travelled the countryside was to create bastions of protection, calm and stability for the waning human population who is being hunted into extinction by demons. There was a scene in a past episode of her kneeling at a small sapling and adding a spell. This short flashback comes to fruiting episodes later, in the arc you are about to experience. Can't wait to see your reaction and discussion!

    1:17 Man, I've never complain about subs in a reaction channel (and even if I would it would not be a criticism of the reaction channel), but these subs s***. I think he said he rather not die, which makes so much more sense with the rest of the sentence. Does Netflix translating team hires people that can understand Japanese on a basic level? Maybe it was an inattention mistake? Anyway I'm continuing the episode, rant over.

      @@CuddlinginCarnage I'm not sure tho, I'm not especially good with the few japanese I have, but I base my judgement on the fact that it makes more sense and the Frieren translation of the manga I read was more like this, Stark saying that 3 years is a long time.
