  • Cream - Crossroads live at Royal Albert Hall, London.
    November 26th, 1968
    5 of 11
"Farewell Concert" is the live recording of the Cream's final concert at the Royal Albert Hall on November 26th, 1968.
Directed by Tony Palmer, the film incorporates pieces of six performances with narration by BBC announcer Patrick Allen, along with interviews with the band members themselves, showcasing their playing abilities.
The film has often been criticized for both its mediocre sound and visual effects.
In 2005, a special extended edition of the concert appeared featuring full versions of all songs separated from the narration and interviews. The new version featured digitally remastered sound and video including three bonus songs.

1:49 is such a 60’s camera trick. That freeze frame while the performer is playing. On another note Clapton sounded BEST WITH A GIBSON. I will take that to the grave. That crunchy, spiky sound is AMAZING

Somewhere along the line, someone figured out that that wasn't what people wanted to see. Check out some old Allman Brothers with Duane -- there's not much of him actually at work. Criminal, it retrospect.

HE ALSO COULD´VE TAKEN MORPHINE WHICH HE PROBALBLY DID ANYWAY, WHO KNOWS ... MORPHINE WAS A LEGAL DRUG UNTIL THE MID-THIRTIES AS FAR AS I KNOW BUT I´M NOT VERY CONVERSANT WITH MATTERS LIKE THIS ONE ... WHAT I KNOW FROM ME GRANDFATHER IS THAT IT WAS GIVEN TO BADLY WOUNDED SERVICE MEN TO RELIEVE EM FROM PAIN ... MORPHINE WAS GIVEN TO SOLDIERS DURING AND AFTER WW 1 AND WW 2 WHICH CAUSED ADDICTION WITH MANY ... SERVICE MEN, ESP. AIRMEN WERE GIVEN P E R V I T I N E (SIMILAR TO TODAYS EXCTASY) TO AVOID FATIGUE AND MAKE EM MORE AUDACIOUS ... ITS STILL GIVEN TO US-SPECIAL FORCES AND THE SAS .... `COURSE THERE MUST BE A REASON FOR IT .... Whenever Hendrix was back in England, it was stated he only wanted to go see Cream. When they came to the US Carlos Santana said he and others were amazed at the sound that a trio could put out. They were the forerunners of many successive rock bands. Wish they played longer than two years, but sometimes highly talented people just burn out together.

Crossroads on Wheels of Fire so excited me about playing the guitar like Eric. It blew my mind. Jac Bruce just jammed like no other on bass, basically him and Eric playing duel leads and of course Ginger keeping it all together with his phenomenal drumming. So glad my brother turned me onto to them and so many others. He loved Ginger, Bonham. Played the drums learning from those guys. Cream is like no other. So many great bands in those days!

In addition to Clapton’s historic March 10, 1968, iconic Winterlands Crossroads which is far superior to this Royal Albert Hall performance, (the ONLY time he used his 335 during a live Cream performance and never used it in the US with Cream), Sleepy Time Time, and his incredible Sitting on Top of the World from the LA Forum Farewell tour, there are also FAR more impressive performances of Steppin Out as compared to the Live Cream II (Winterland) version on different boots such as the Detroit Grand Ballroom and other Winterland performances plus a fantastic tour de force of Steppin he played in Sweden November 67.
When I saw Cream at Philly's Electric Factory on April 19th 1968, Clapton played an unbelievable Steppin Out that had to be near 30 minutes long and that followed a mind bending Sitting on Top of the World. Nothing can compare to hearing Clapton with Cream, being only 15 feet away in front of his dual Marshall stack. That sound changed my guitar playing and millions of other guitarists for generations to come. The sound that roared out of his Marshall stack from his Gibson SG was a sound that was so massive, no live recording can come close to capturing it….unfortunately😎

@@CreamBootlegs There are so many, it's hard to pick but another one is a rare version from either San Jose or Houston, not sure but it was on the last day of March 1968 when he plays a killer, transcendent "Steppin Out'. It might be somewhere on UA-cam if you can find it. I know that the SO he played at the Electric Factory when I saw him on April 19, 1968, was a pure, virtuoso performance and both my older brother & I think it was over 25 minutes, a massively, long version. I don't think any of EC's Gibson, including his many Les Pauls, equaled the massive, lush, vocal tone of his SG "Fool". That guitar was arguably his ultimate Gibson voice, it was perfect synergy from his fingers through his dual Mashall stack.
