I saw an interview with Bob Weir talking about Cream arriving on the west coast. He said it was like the Vikings landing on your shore, time to hide the women and children.
@@monty70 Yep, Absolutely massive sound!! though I can't see Eric, Jack and even Ginger as savage vikings that you have to hide women and children from.. funny Bob Weir saying that, would like to find the interview..

@Micah Kabir Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I didn’t realize how good Jack and Ginger were until I heard them in the psychedelic context. The way Baker serves the other players and lays back in the beat is sublime. Jack was the front man.
Poor Eric, constantly forced to blow his entire load just to keep up with Jack and Ginger, but alas! He is more than up to the task. There is something ethereal, yes, even spiritual about twin plexi super-leads in an huge hall. That, coupled with Jacks Marshall Majors create an almost surreal ambiance. Long live Cream!
Super intense version, Eric only played like this when pushed by Jack and Ginger but nobody else could have kept up with them, the physical playing stamina and sustained mental improvisational flow are beyond any other band.
Robert Cray summed up Jack's singing by saying, Jack Bruce and his wailing vocals were so cool!!!!! I totally agree with him, Jack has one of the perfect voices for singing power blues music.
There are various points where Baker sounds like there are two or three different drummers playing when the trio is really on fire. I think he stoked the blazing riffs and improvised explosive playing of Bruce & Clapton. A true innovator.
Eugene Ward,Jr. I can't tell if he is fast with one bass drum or consecutively using the two and creative rhythm with the snare, Tom-toms and the ride cymbal. My soul says, the latter.
I sat 15 feet away from Baker at a gig at the 'Cafe Wha' West Village, 1968 and blew my mind!! Baker was at a level that's all his own!!!! Nobody comes close!! Bonham was at another plain!! both were drum 'gods'!!!
It's like they are fighting each other musically for dominance within the band, especially the bass and drums. Jack and Ginger create this incredibly complex tapestry over which Clapton soars.
I heard Micky Hart talking about when Cream first came to San Francisco in 1967. He said it was like the Vikings landing on your shore. Time to hide the women and children. LOL.
The live album version is the greatest. That said, seeing them perform this live in the '60's while mildly stoned was heaven on earth. Never another concert matched the one of that night. They put their hearts into every concert. LOL, In NYC's East Village, the Filmore East had the Joshua Light Show behind the trio, not in front like this.
The best playing Clapton ever did, IMHO. It took me awhile to understand what's going on when Cream start improvising, but once you can hear it, it's incredible. You expect this kind of playing from jazz bands, but not rock bands.
I saw Cream live many times, from their debut performance at Windsor Jazz Festival in '66, through many in the north London blues clubs to their final at RAH. Every live performance of a song was different because they were improvising.. always brilliant and so exciting because you never knew where they were going, not sure that they did either! These recordings are great, but of course, always the same, which Cream were not.
It's unfortunate that that the dude that filmed and recorded this had to ruin it with oil lights , psychedelic baloney and some gibberish interwoven into it. Thank God I was able to see it live🤗
If u have not done LSD, u will not understand the special effects, luv the color sequence on them, to cool, Palmer should have edited it better, close up shots are to close but as the awesome song moves on, its a testament of the raw power of CREAM and how they took Spoonful and made it their own-------fuckin unforgettable concert of 3 of the greatest musicians born on Earth------- It will never End----

Absolutely right. Ginger even says in one of the Cream vids I have, he says: "That's your gig, that's your job, you make the other guys sound better. That's what Baby did, that's what Elvin did an what Art did. You got so many unique sounds on a kit, there's more then just boom bash, boom bash on a kit." I'm always arguing with people on other vids of Cream about how good Ginger is. You don't need to be a music expert to see what separates him from the rest, if they would just listen to him an not judge him on being a douchebag.
everybody needs that spoonful of something...........best power trio ever i would love to know how Clapton got that guitar tone ........that would be my spoonful.....
Get a Metropoulos JTM45/100; that would be about as close you could get to a real vintage Marshall without paying close to 10k for an amp that may have problems due to it's age. Or if your so inclined you could build your own; the circuitry is almost rudimentary to even a novice amp builder.
These guys created timeless music, cream was one of the most underrated rock bands in the world, pink floyd, led zeppelin... created only a few good songs and practically all of cream's songs are good, they managed to maintain a unique style of music and consistent since the beginning of the band, they created three wonderful albums from start to finish but unitl today the only thing people remember is Pink Floyd... Jack Bruce is a fuckin force of nature wat a incredible bass player and singer
Listened to Cream for over 50 years pretty constantly. Only Mozart and Bach have the same power and beauty which send me.

its what made them the Cream that rises to the top
I'd say, they are in a gang fight together..knuckle dusters, flick knives, Billy clubs
