Better to end it on a high note then to keep burning it into the ground like what they're doing now.
DrFunk98 it's just because they haven't use the dinobots yet(and fans asking for it) so bay sense that opportunity & introduced them....in a pretty weird way. & rarely used them in 5. It's just like he doesn't know how to use them & making them appear whenever the plot needs them
Bro, Michael’s attention to detail with the military aspects of his films (especially 13 hours) is awesome. His close relation adds for a lot of accuracy and that is oddly enough one of my favorite parts of Transformers. If he directed a G.I. Joe movie...it would be incredible.
Transformers 1 is definitely the best and enjoyable 👍🏻 and kinda a classic since it’s 10 years old now and has the least needles humour and tells the most story
Thanks for reviewing one of my all time favourite films Oliver, it was one of the best summer blockbusters from 2007. I love this film and it's toys and games when I was little. Nice touch of adding the Transformers theme song from the 1986 animated film at the end of the review dude.
I remember, being in High School at the time and a fan of the animated series as a kid, being incredibly pessimistic about this movie. Boy, was I shocked by how much fun it was. And looking back on it, it's the best of the new ones (imo).
I always liked this movie. It's actually a really good action sci-fi story and I think it's obvious that Spielberg had a lot to do with it that's why it stands out from the rest of the movies which I just ignore to be honest :)
Never understood the hate for this movie, its a fun popcorn flick. even in G1 season 1 and 2, spike and bumblebee are a recurring theme and have a strong relationship. That was nice to see followed through. The score is epic. sequel 2 and 3 are watchable.
"It's apparent that Michael Bay is far more interested in the military aspect, and Sam and his family." In other words, Michael Bay doesn't care about the Transformers. And he doesn't care about the source material. But now that he sees it as an incredibly easy way to make money, he's just not going to stop.
That doesn't mean jack shit. Getting Peter Cullen to reprise his role as Optimus Prime does not automatically make the movies better. If the movies are written, executed, and handled poorly, then that is a waste of talent. And Peter Cullen's talents are wasted in these movies. So no, Michael Bay DOES NOT CARE about the Transformers. The only reason he continues to make them to this day is for the money. He doesn't give a shit about what the fans want. He's just doing this to make a buck. In other words, money is ALL people care about these days.
MDthornton83 First of Peter Cullen is not wasted in these movies because he is the main autobot in the movies besides bumblebee and he is also all over the marketing campaign. Secondly Michael Bay may just be in for the money but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about the franchise because he does care about the people he works with and he also has been trying to leave the franchise after Dark Of The Moon so even if you hate Michael Bay he will no longer direct any more movies and we'll get new directors.
Dude, you're preaching to the chore. Just because I don't like Michael Bay doesn't mean he's going to stop for anything. He's going to do whatever he wants to. So more power to him. And you say Cullen's talent is not wasted? If only you knew how wrong you are, sir. Especially considering that the movies have almost NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSFORMERS. In fact, the movies are barely even about the Transformers at all. They fail on almost every aspect. Especially when it comes to focus and consistency. The only thing that makes them so successful is that they make MONEY. And like I said before, Bay is NOT going to stop doing what he's doing as long as its for the money. But at this point in time, I've pretty much lost faith in the Bayformers series. They've become so predictable. Sexual humor that's not funny, countless filler scenes that have nothing to do with the titular robots, choosing to focus on characters who nobody cares about, its a mess. You can say whatever you want. But I stand by what I say. A bad movie is a bad movie no matter what excuses you make for it. And that stuff about Michael Bay stepping down and wanting to leave, that could be just a hoax. And I don't think it would be that hard just to leave the franchise. But that's not going to happen anytime soon. And I am convinced that there will NEVER be another good Transformers movie. EVER. Until the day comes when someone proves me wrong, my point remains valid. Period.
I saw this video was 7 years years old and I thought “how can it be a retrospective? That’s hardly older than the movie itself” then I realize that the movie was 17 years old… Holy shit I’m old.
This is actually my third favorite movie of all time. I have a very clear memory of my dad taking me to see it when it came out and I absolutely loved it. Then we saw it again and I brought my older sister and younger brother. Man, 2007 was the greatest year of my life.
Same. This was my true introduction to Transformers and as a result, I went and discovered G1. I really like both G1, this film and Dark of The Moon. If anything that can sometimes be the rare magic of doing adaptations meant for a wider audience, getting them to seek out the older material based on the love of the big budget Hollywood adaptation they first experienced
You should do some Stephen King-movie adaptation Retrospectives for Halloween, unless you have specific plans already. Would love to hear you telling about Pet Sematary or Creepshow, etc, etc.
That scene where the military tries to take out Scorponok in the desert is one of the best display of military firepower I've ever seen on screen... The music for that scene is just a cherry of top of a MURICA Sundae.
Really cool on having Optimus Prime's dialogue from the beginning of the movie on the theme monologue for the beginning of the video, Nice music on the auto-bots' transformation on the first part of the retrospective, And cool on having the 1986 movie theme for the end of the second part of the retrospective, fans are gonna really like that. Also you're a really good editor on this one and with your other videos
I remember watching Transformers when it came out with my dad when I was 7. I'm 17 now, and I still think it's great. In my opinion any movie that has a unique feel, and or makes you feel things at the end credits, Is great. Shame that it has become a quick cash grab, although I do think The Last Knight was pretty ok
The 1st movie will always hold a special place in my childhood. Although I grew up with Beast Wars and the original G1 Movie, I thought the first movie was visually exciting in my teens. If they had just cut down the human scenes by maybe 20-30 min it would've been a much better movie.
transformers will always have a place in my childhood. the only mistake was that it wasn't given the right director that truly knows and respects the source material.
I liked the first movie. I think focusing on human characters is totally fine. If you payed to see transformers exclusively and nothing else, that's on you. Also, you don't HAVE to pander to original's fans. The movie is its own thing, it can be based or inspired by the original, but can still be different from it. For example, I love both Harry Potter books and movies, even if some changes were implemented. I appreciate the review.
Absolutely agree. Imo i think first movie was pretty good. (even better than bumblebee movie) all transformers movies need is just decent or good plot. first movie's plot had some issues but it was kinda well crafted overall. It wasnt bad at all
More likely audiences are getting sick of sub pare sequels, remakes, reboots, adaptations and so on. IF your answer was the case, revenge of the fallen and the ones after wouldn't have made the money they made unfortunately.
The criticism is noted but all 5 movies are amazing technical achievements. They're filmed on location with extensive use of practical effects, combined with ray-traced cg and some of the best blue screen shots I've seen to date (so many modern movies just look like they shot the actors in a tiny room like it's a sitcom, then they remove the blue screen and add in a giant mountain or an alien planet etc). Transformers is what a blockbuster movie should be, and what they used to be-- despite the tone, subject matter and Bay's personality that people object to
The Transformers movies are not remotely cerebral movies. They are pure action eye candy with comedy thrown in. People want to see their favorite transformers in live action. And it's always fun to see optimus kick some ass. I'm so happy that he has his original voice for the movies.
I think one argument of lack of screen time for the transformer's is the expense and time it takes to animate them. I read post production on each of them is a max of 6 month's where normally other big budget ones have a year or even longer because huge effects they have to do. Maybe now the films are in different hands they will give more time to include them more ☺
Love the content man, I’ve listened to some of your videos several times each and enjoy them more each time. If you could do more retrospectives on movies from the 90s that’s be great. My favorite videos are the retrospective series
This is a decent movie. It's definitely the best live action transformers film. I think it's good because it's less cluttered than the sequels, you can clearly pay attention to what's going on. And I think the sequels contradict the original film and there might be only so much material you can get from the transformers.
I've once seen the original Bad Boys. I was propably the shittiest movie I've ever watched. So much gringeworthy scenes, explosions and way too many slow motion shots.
God this film had such an amazing soundtrack. Song at 1:40 always reminds me of Paragon’s world first Lich King kill in World of Warcraft back when they made ridiculously good videos of raid bosses. Still one of the best UA-cam videos ever made.
It's so difficult to believe that this film has just turned 10 years 2 days ago, the way everyone kept talking about how good it was, was pretty crazy.
As much as people complain about the focus on the human characters, I think my favorite thing about it is how it slowly wades into the transformers side of the pool, so to speak. We get brief action scenes interspersed with a mostly human perspective at the start, and bit by bit the narrative peels away the seemingly mundane surroundings to uncover a mysterious alien presence and eventually marvel at the heroes and villains from Cybertron. The Arrival to Earth sequence is breathtaking in every aspect.
Not gonna lie. I watched that end montage a few times. As much as I love the Jablosky score, it's amazing how adding that classic theme can make those action scenes feel so much grander and transformery.
Mr. Harper - that last minute or so with the 1986 Transformers theme over the 2007 Transformers visuals was FUCKING AWESOME!!!! BRILLIANT!!! As much as I like the 2007 soundtrack, they should've used something like THAT somewhere in the film - at the very least it would've made a FANTASTIC trailer! :D :D :D
Okay, best ending of your review series EVER by using the theme from The Transformers (animated) movie as part of a trailer for the live-action/CGI version. Awesome!
Mr. Harper please stop disturbing my daily routine with your awesome videos! Got tons of stuff to do... but u are preventing me from housecleaning and all these things! :D Great Video!
This is Bay's best film! I adore this film, saw it seven times in cinemas and Imax. I think it came just at the right time for me and bring a die-hard Transformers fan helped to lol
I've never been keen on Michael Bay or his take on the Transformers, in his mind 98% of the time he only thinks about explosions. I honestly hope sometime down the line they get a proper director that respects the source material and gives the fans the film they've always wanted.
I feel the Pacific Rim movie was what I wanted from Transformers somehow. Guillermo del Toro did a great job with that one. Watched it in a big cinema with great sound and was entertained to the bits but my friends watched it at home on their computer screens and found it stupid. I guess the Ramin Jawadi soundtrack shouldered a lot of the movie's quality
rosewatersaffron Pacific Rim is a movie that needs to be watched on the big screen. It’s a beautiful homage to mecha anime like Gundam and Evangelion and is an all around amazing piece of cinema.
@@Odinsday I like Transformers 1,3,animated movie and Bumblebee 2018 other than that rest is garbage. There is two reasons I kinda like 3 is 1. because of Leonard Nimoy and his character, he is an interesting and complex charecter who wants to see his species and civilization survive and he hates humans for a legitimate reason, Autobots now work as a black ops team for the US Govt. as we saw they destroyed a Iranian nuclear plant but the fact they determine what the Autobots should do and who should they do it for , 2. Optimus prime and Megatron I know I am kinda cheating but Peter cullen and Hugo weaving give it their best to at least keep carrying the movie.
I actually quite enjoyed the first Transformers movie and I consider it one of Bay's more fun entries in his filmography. Spielberg's influence can be felt through out the first one, unlike the later entries. I guess after the first one succeeded, he just left Bay to his devices and it shows. Although I sort of liked DOTM.
Do you think if they hadn't lost out to the Golden Compass that we would've gotten better sequels? Maybe Michael Bay thought, "what's the point in all this hard work if something like Golden Compass is just gonna win anyway?"

DrFunk98 it's just because they haven't use the dinobots yet(and fans asking for it) so bay sense that opportunity & introduced them....in a pretty weird way. & rarely used them in 5. It's just like he doesn't know how to use them & making them appear whenever the plot needs them
I take my hat off to you Oliver, you suffered big time to make this for us. Thank you.
Great custom trailers again, especially the one at the end, now THAT'S the live action Transformers film we all want to see :) !
Thanks for reviewing one of my all time favourite films Oliver, it was one of the best summer blockbusters from 2007. I love this film and it's toys and games when I was little. Nice touch of adding the Transformers theme song from the 1986 animated film at the end of the review dude.
I like this movie. But the sequels get worse.
I feel sleep during the last hour.
they got better
Then Bumblebee came out.
I think "worse" is an understatement...the sequels are horrible
Liam Early Bumblebee’s execution is bad. it’s script on paper is obviously great, but the movie is not great.
This movie always will associate with my youth, I was 18y.o. boy in 2007 when this was released. This movie was a super bright event
Nothing will ever compare with the 1986 movie and the first 2 seasons of the animated cartoon
I remember seeing this when I was 8 years old. One of my childhood films! This is definitely my favorite Michael Bay film.
holy crap Oliver, you are an editing GOD. this was fantastic from start to finish.
thanks dude!
I remember, being in High School at the time and a fan of the animated series as a kid, being incredibly pessimistic about this movie. Boy, was I shocked by how much fun it was. And looking back on it, it's the best of the new ones (imo).
That montage at the end was damn beautiful. Instant chills.
I have to say, the first transformers movie is amazing, my favorite Michael Bay movie and as one of my favorite sountracks ever
6:24 Spielberg's message came to pass....just 11 years later under a different director...with a girl and her Beetle
The ending was AWESOME once the 80s Transformer's theme kicked in. Well edited. Take you like. Take your new subscriber too!
That makes sense.
MDthornton83 If he doesn't care about the franchise than he wouldn't have asked or hired Peter Cullen to reprise his role as Optimus Prime.
@@BaggyFTJ Same. And Revenge of the Fallen is still to this day the biggest guilty pleasure movie of mine.
You should do some Stephen King-movie adaptation Retrospectives for Halloween, unless you have specific plans already. Would love to hear you telling about Pet Sematary or Creepshow, etc, etc.
The action in the first movie made my jaw drop when I first saw it in cinema. It's a shame that didn't happen again with the sequels.
That scene where the military tries to take out Scorponok in the desert is one of the best display of military firepower I've ever seen on screen...
The music for that scene is just a cherry of top of a MURICA Sundae.
the ending with the mash up of music works so well wow awesome review mate
Really cool on having Optimus Prime's dialogue from the beginning of the movie on the theme monologue for the beginning of the video,
Nice music on the auto-bots' transformation on the first part of the retrospective,
And cool on having the 1986 movie theme for the end of the second part of the retrospective, fans are gonna really like that.
Also you're a really good editor on this one and with your other videos
.......HAHAHAHA I've just remembered. Marky Mark sang You Got The Touch in Boogie Nights and now he's in the Transformer films.
One of my favorite movies, I was a young kid when I first watched this, but still is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Oh how far this franchise has fallen. The first film is really, really good. It's a shame they've never capitalised on this in my opinion.
20:45 I DO NOT appreciate the Transformers DS slander.
transformers will always have a place in my childhood. the only mistake was that it wasn't given the right director that truly knows and respects the source material.
It wasnt bad at all
Hey Ollie, I actually don't understand why people say these films are "shallow." I experience an emotional connection when I watch them, just fine.
Transformers 5 is under performing : )
HaloNut 14 thats because its awful
More likely audiences are getting sick of sub pare sequels, remakes, reboots, adaptations and so on. IF your answer was the case, revenge of the fallen and the ones after wouldn't have made the money they made unfortunately.
Annnnnnnd it sucked and cost Paramount over $100 million, so they rebooted it
This review is better than all the movies combined lol
The criticism is noted but all 5 movies are amazing technical achievements. They're filmed on location with extensive use of practical effects, combined with ray-traced cg and some of the best blue screen shots I've seen to date (so many modern movies just look like they shot the actors in a tiny room like it's a sitcom, then they remove the blue screen and add in a giant mountain or an alien planet etc). Transformers is what a blockbuster movie should be, and what they used to be-- despite the tone, subject matter and Bay's personality that people object to
David Curry Remember when movies were based on stories not technology? Hitchcock films are better than this garbage.
My favorite videos are the retrospective series
i realy would like to seee the robert zemeckis version
It would've been heavy on mo-cap animation, for both the transformers and the humans.
This is a decent movie. It's definitely the best live action transformers film. I think it's good because it's less cluttered than the sequels, you can clearly pay attention to what's going on. And I think the sequels contradict the original film and there might be only so much material you can get from the transformers.
It's weird knowing this movie is ten years old, even weirder knowing the series is still continuing.
15 years now
Never go full Bay.
Unless it's Bad Boys II, I quite enjoyed that films insanity.
I think Armageddon is Bay-er than Bad Boys II, and it's a guilty pleasure of mine.
The Rock is the only good Bay movie.
I've once seen the original Bad Boys. I was propably the shittiest movie I've ever watched. So much gringeworthy scenes, explosions and way too many slow motion shots.
Never trash talk the first Bad boys. It's a classic an launched Will Smith's career!
+VandergriftMoefies
I think you'll find the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air launched his career.
God this film had such an amazing soundtrack.
Song at 1:40 always reminds me of Paragon’s world first Lich King kill in World of Warcraft back when they made ridiculously good videos of raid bosses. Still one of the best UA-cam videos ever made.
I`m so glad they didn`t get some stupid celebrity who was popular at the time to voice Optimus rather than getting Peter Cullen or even Garry Chalk.
It's crazy that Golden Compass beat Transformers for best special effects. The effects in Golden Compass were probably its greatest weakness
33:14 - 33:22
Travis Knight: Allow me to introduce myself.
Surprised Marvel hasn't gotten Steve Jablonsky yet. The Transformers score is more memorable than anything from the MCU films.
putting the og movie song at the end was a nice touch thanks
I shamelessly adore this film. Felt more like a Spielberg film than a Bay one.
I love the 1st one and I actually do like Dark of the moon
It's so difficult to believe that this film has just turned 10 years 2 days ago, the way everyone kept talking about how good it was, was pretty crazy.
This movie is the definition of 2007 along with an Xbox 360
I had transformers decepticons had Keith David as bardicade.
00:37 “the base was under attack”
Tyrese- WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”
Lmao
Transformes was only movie of Transformes, after the 80's movie about Transformes! Both Transformes movies were awesome!
same here. I remember seeing transformers 2 in the theater when I was 16 years old, everyone applauded when the movie was over.
Oh lordy
We're in for a treat here
Okay, best ending of your review series EVER by using the theme from The Transformers (animated) movie as part of a trailer for the live-action/CGI version. Awesome!
Mr. Harper please stop disturbing my daily routine with your awesome videos! Got tons of stuff to do... but u are preventing me from housecleaning and all these things! :D Great Video!
The only good Transformers movie
I think he just means the ones from michael bay.
The moment Bumblebee took a piss on the agent guy, it lost me. Dunno how people defend this toilet humor.
Harvey Dent Two face Oh I certainly do,the animated movie is also very good
This, the G1 1986 movie (best TF film of all time), and the Transformers Prime movie were the best.
i perferd prime series over the movie but it ended it well
I love your videos man, seriously keep this up, this is so entertaining. Cheers.
Love the Scorponok fight theme song.
I thought of it as a huge General Motors commercial. Notice how they make sure to get those car logos in shot and they're always so clean and shiny.
The first movie i ever seen when I was just a little child the movie that changed my life something more to me then meets the eye TRANSFORMERS!!!
This is Bay's best film! I adore this film, saw it seven times in cinemas and Imax. I think it came just at the right time for me and bring a die-hard Transformers fan helped to lol
Major kudos for putting the Stan Bush some at the end!!!
As always Oliver you are a real delight! Great work once again m8!
At 35:33 I literally cracked a smile when I heard the transformers theme that was awesome! XD
I never thought you would review something like this.
