Beautifully expressed, as always, Helena. I just wrote something about being alone not too long ago because I feel so similarly. I actually feel like the ability to be alone is like a superpower, in some ways, and I embrace it fully. I used to get made fun of for going to the movies by myself, haha, but it's one of my favorite things! I wish more people understood how magical and healing it is
I thought at one point in my life I was extroverted. As I’ve aged I’ve become more of and introvert. I love being at home and decorating or watching a good movie. I love to think by myself. I don’t know if this has come from being a widow and raising my two daughters alone. I am now to the point that I’m happiest by myself. I love to travel to parts unknown and learning about others. Loved listening to this. I could go on and on.
eeek! hahahaha I HEAR ya! 😂💕Ohmygosh so many instances in my life, I felt pressured to go with someone to a cafe or the school bathroom or whatever just because they were terrified of being alone, of being SEEN alone. I have never understood it! It's so beyond silly.
When I'm single I get used to being alone and doing things in public and it gives me a sense of freedom. But then that goes out the window when I get in a relationship! I am going to push myself to go on a solo walk today (in rainy England!). And when the Pandemic lifts I would like to travel alone even if just for a weekend at first, I'd feel so brave and confident and free. Ahh so many excited feelings!! X
Oh dear, this video is so perfect and just spoke to my soul so deeply it brought me to tears!!! I have always been an introvert. I am so grateful to my husband of 22 years for understanding and respecting this. I am now at a time in my life where I am alone most of the time and I have very little for friends and no family besides my husband and children. I am very thankful for the years I spent learning not only how to be alone, but also how to enjoy my own company without feeling depressed or lonely a whole bunch. Thank you, Helena. I hope you have a lovely week.
You touched on something my mother always told my sister and growing up- you must love and enjoy your own company FIRST before you expect someone else to...You have to be YOUR best friend FIRST. As an adult now, I see how difficult it is for some people to live like that...to be able to do things alone as you so beautifully put it. It's imperative to love our company and to rehash our own thoughts and experiences , so that we can be refreshed when we are with our partners. You hit the nail on the head Helena!! :-) Hope you're having a grand one today my friend:-)
You are so right Helena, living in the countryside and away from the fast city lofe has helped me learn to embrace my own company and I thrive more in solitude. LOVE this video so much xx
I used to fear being alone, not because I didn't enjoy my own company but because of what others would think of me. I am coming to accept that it's OK to want to be alone, and have your space regardless of what others think. That's why I love being alone out in nature (sometimes with my dogs), it's so peaceful.
Helena, you are full of words of wisdom, I could listen to you all day! I love time alone, time to recharge, gather your thoughts, use your imagination. Take in the scenery on a lovely walk 🏞🐞🐝 and notice what's around you. I think it's a kind of meditation and escapism from a busy world and busy people.x 🌸🐕🌷
Thank you so much for the encouragement Helena! Just before the pandemic, in January 2020 I went on a solo trip to Alaska. It was so beautiful, I was in a Fairyland. It was the most liberating thing I have done in my life. Now after watching your video I am feeling that urge again. May be today I will just go for a hike alone. You are so sweet and wonderful. Thanks again!
oh!! I'm sending you such a warm hug through my keyboard! There is so much beauty spending time alone. And know that by connecting with your intuition you'll never feel truly alone when you feel that connection with your inner voice!
Such a fantastic video, thank you! 💖 I am also an introvert and love spending quality time in my own company ..it's the one of the best feelings in the world 😊
Just found your lovely channel. Am totally with you, it took a long time for me to be alone and now that I am I just love it. So much to do and when I want to do it. Total luxury. Knowing it’s your choice but that you have good friends who love you and are around for you means you’re never lonely I think.
I need to save this video. I love being alone at home ( I live alone). I love people and being involved with others, but I need to enjoy being alone beyond my home and beyond shopping and errands. I am taking your advice to explore the pleasures outside my home. I get it. Thanks!
I realise this video is a year old. However I do have to comment to say. You do remind me of my younger self. I to learnt at a young age to be alone. It is a wonderful feeling having the confidence to go places on one’s own. Also observing what is happening around you at your own pace.. I do enjoy being with people. However I certainly do enjoy my own company. Also have to mention your book ‘Slow Living’ is a masterpiece. Beautifully illustrated and so well written. Many thanks ❤
Being alone can be a gift and you're totally right.... Very poetic and spiritual. The images and music are also great. Solitude makes you be creative and see the world with other eyes.
It definitely was an inspiring video. It’s helping me to make piece with myself. I’m totally fine with doing life alone, it’s just that I still desire to feel connected with my community somehow, I still want to feel like I’m loved and cared about and thought of from time to time. I desire to have meaning in my life. I’m currently living a very meaningless life. I suppose being alone and being lonely are two very different things. The COVID sure doesn’t help much either.
Your enthusiasm is so wonderful and very contagious. If I am having a difficult day I know I can watch one of your videos and my day will be lightened and made better. Thank you for being here.
It's just what I needed to hear today. Thank you so much for improving my life. So many times it was so difficult for me to recharge. Why? Because I couldn't almost never get alone. It was so annoying, irritating, nerve racking. It's just like trying to recharge your Tesla but you can't find a place to recharge it. I was so tired and stressed out. I finally decided to make a huge change in my life. Well some didn't understand. Some were just so mad. Well actually it's my life. That's pretty much the problem. Once I did get away. Then there was no problem whatsoever to recharge. What a pleasure it was to get away. Now it's night and day. It did take a while. Because I didn't know how and what to do. Now I don't feel angry about myself. It was a very difficult time. Now I feel so liberated. Full power to me. Just like Captain Power. Full power to me!
I appreciate you for sharing your life with us. I like the ability to be an introvert & social & a youtube channel. I'm an introvert & I appreciate the magic of being alone. also, iam very social. I do enjoy living in other countries with different languages because I'm present & In a bubble because I dont know the language. This create a gentle force to express .myself without words
Well said ... you always speak what I think .I can relate you so much!and now I am seeing that our life also has similarity. Being married and enjoying self company is something so pleasant.I enjoy togetherness with my husband as well as my own time . I watched movie alone, enjoy nature , roam around alone even after my marraige also I continue this . There is no clash at all. I think ' I ' has a special connection with this universe and this connection manifests in a different way when we give the opportunity to our life. If we connect ourself with this nature life unfolds beauty . I love to listen you always .All my good wishes to you .
Beautiful video! I am an introvert who would like to have more friends, but I am also learning to not feel weird about liking alone time. And to respect my need for it, my creativity doesn’t really rise until I give myself time and space to think.
Michelle!! 💕 I'm looking for more friends too! We can love being alone and also crave new kindred souls to share experiences with 🤗 And YES to the creativity! 🙏
Beautiful video! 💙 I couldn't agree more! I also Love to be alone and need a lot of alone time daily to feel energized. The sea looks so dreamy where you are!
I love to see an example of someone being in a committed relationship and still getting to spend time alone! Good to know it’s possible! I’ve felt suffocated in past relationships and almost started to believe I had to choose one or the other!
I hope this gives you some words of encouragement. I am very introverted and always have been. I have been married for 22 years and my husband has always respected this about me. He knows I need lots of time alone, or I get grumpy and overly emotional. He has always given me time away from our very loud, spirited kids too because he knows I need that in order to feel like myself (I've always been a sahm). So you are perfectly entitled to want both in a relationship and don't ever feel bad for wanting it. Relationships are about giving and caring for one another, and you absolutely deserve to be with someone who respects your need for time alone =)
Wonderful video and message Helena! I can't agree more as a fellow introvert. Like you, I'm blessed with a supporting partner. I moved to the countryside because life in the big city is just too much for me. I withstood that for many, many years but the peace in the countryside is far more helpful than anything in a big city. As you started talking about "go on a date with yourself" I remembered the confused faces of some former coworkers when I told them that I will go on a concert of my favourite band alone. They didn't understand that at all and you saw it in their faces. (Yes there are other people on a concert but I didn't know anyone there :'D) The concert was amazing, so much I can't express it well. And I were very proud of myself for doing something just for me alone.
Yes!! Lind, going to concerts alone is seriously the BEST! So cool to hear you enjoy that as well! I've been to a lot of concerts alone as well as with friends and being there alone, no one knowing who you are, just dancing and singing and jamming to your favorite songs under the lights is an amazing experience! Totally worth going solo! I have tickets to go to a concert in London later this year - fingers crossed it still happens! Keep doing what makes you happy! So many people are confused by doing things alone - it could be that they are just extroverts and they gain their energy from others! 🤗
This is a great message. I am an only child and an introvert also. I've never been completely alone in my life until now, as my husband passed in 2020. I don't mind being alone, but I do mind the loneliness of missing him. But I spent a lot of time alone as a child and entertained myself. I think my background is helping me to cope with my new life. Love your videos. Take care.
ohmygosh, I can imagine it's really difficult, i'm so very sorry to hear about your loss Dee. There is definitely a immense loneliness that comes from being separated from your best friend. Glad to hear your journey growing up is helping you with the process. Thank you for sharing ❤️🤗
Identify incredibly with this.... thank you for putting into beautifully spoken words what has been in my heart for so long. Sending you blessings and much love. And gratitude ♡♡♡
