Ipohian here. Thanks for being kind. Ipoh is a retirement town becoz of the slightly cheaper property prices compared to KL & Penang. Many old people here.

I was born in Singapore but decided to settle down in Ipoh 35 years ago. I lived in several places in Malaysia but i finally chose to live in the outskirts of Ipoh not far from the caves. I married a local girl. .I left city life to become a farmer. My closest friend married a local girl and became a padi planter in Teluk Intan, south of Ipoh.

I wonder if it is a popular idea for Singaporeans. I married a girl who was growing up in Singapore and we married in the US where we finished our graduate studies. We lived in Hong Kong for sixteen years before we moved to Damansara where we made it our home for retirement.

The Kopitiam(local cafe) culture in Malaysia is something most tourists missed out. It's a treasure trove of authentic local street foods and beverages that can be enjoyed without breaking the bank!😊

Yes , you're correct , Ipoh is pronounced as E-Poh! In Mandarin , it is pronounced as Yee-Bao! Malaysia had many connection with England , Scotland , Canada , Australia & New Zealand from the former British Empire that many Malaysians further their university study in these Commonwealth countries ...

You missed taiping and Kuala Kangsar.... And when you reach KL please have a day tour to Kuala Selangor - Sabak Bernam stretch or even stay a night or two there... You can try traditional snacks like kerepek, rempeyek. mee udang, seafood galore... Attractions will be fireflies, blue tears, langurs, and several historical site, paddy fields... Experience the rural lifestyle of paddy farmers and fishermen.... You could stay at a homestay that offers activities to do, like catching fish with your own bare hands, maybe making the said traditional snacks etc ( I would suggest sg haji dorani homestay for one)

@@JordanandEmily I'm from Taiping and it's even more laid back in Taiping than Ipoh besides Taiping has the most historical firsts in Malaysia. On the outskirts of Taiping is the fishing village / town of Kuala Sepetang where you can watch sea eagles feeding on the boat, seafood restaurants, charcoal making kilns, mangrove swamp walkway, firefly colony . Another town in Perak state is Gula which is popular with bird watchers but it's certain months only

If you like the local prices + kopitiams in ipoh, stay in Pudu in KL. It’s a non touristy chinese area a short walk frm bukit bintang. We stay at beautiful lucentia residence which is conveniently connected to lalaport mall but then you can walk to lots of kopitiams + local restaurants + other malls. ICC pudu is a busy hawker centre that is great for brunch a 10min walk away.

To explore Malaysia. You need a couple of months and a car for a nice road trip. 1 month plus to drive around Peninsular Malaysia and another month to drive around Sabah and Sarawak.
Many tourist do this with a car or a motorbike.
As Malaysia is a Federation and its territories were once their own countries. Its pretty unique everywhere.

    Explore it's suburbs...
    Caving

    White water rafting
    Rural living
    Tin Mines and dredging boats.
    Better to rent a car.

Ipoh born here and was surprised you mentioned the dim sum was ordinary when I thought every random dim sum restaurant is good in Ipoh till I googled the one you shared. Looks like you chose a halal dim sum shop which excluded the key ingredients for delicious dim sum - pork / lard oil.
Edit : saw the end of video. Ming court is one of the best dim sum in Ipoh for sure but they are on the expensive side with small portions. But happy that you get to taste the difference

To be fair, I think the one you went to is probably the best halal dim sum in the area (likely, since the review is so positive) but for us who could take pork, the difference in taste is big.

Coffee with condensed milk really tasty but unfortunately hardly any outlets in Malaysia for the past 20 years use condensed milk due to the very expensive condensed milk...the last 20 years I believe all outlets just use sweetened creamer..to those not aware they still think it's condensed milk...in the good olden days condensed milk was like staple in coffee n tea ,so was butter
