GrimmSpeed is known for making some of the BEST US-made aftermarket exhaust components for turbo Subarus. We’ve taken our extensive knowledge and put it into creating the most beautiful and functional unequal length header on the market for the turbocharged EJ engine platform! Designed with our innovative cast collector and a fresh take on unequal length runners, this header has the lowest restriction, smoothest flow and most consistent performance possible.

Simplicity at its best. Thanks Owen, I can't wait to get mine ordered 😁
😄
Great product guys!
Just in time for subbie fest. I’ll be ordering mine end of this month!! Hope you guys have plenty in stock!
Awesome! We are staying busy welding them up as we speak!
I'm glad that unlike the BPV the headers got released in time for me to make the right purchase the first time!
You and me both!
This is a piece of art! I will be ordering this soon, I just did their up pipe. It is larger than the Cobb up pipe that was on the vehicle. I also did a O2 sensor delete on the uppipe with the resistor to handle any CEL codes.
You forgot to mention that the 2002-2005 wrx's need a sti oil pan and pick up to run this header.
DIdn't mention that in the video but all that information is listed on our product page.
Hello Grimm speed I was wondering if I can use your headers with the killer b oil pan on a 03 wrx? Or is the Sti pan the only one compatible?
Wow Grimmspeed that was a great video. 👍 I am thinking about buying your products . See ya @Subifest Ca in Sept 😜👍
Thanks for the positive feedback! If you have any questions about any of our products feel free to give us a call. We will see you there!
@@GrimmSpeed Oh will do.
are the OEM header gaskets not reusable if removed? I was wanting to replace the passenger side OCV solenoid and going to remove the header for easier access.
ive seen people put rtv gaskets on before the actual gasket its self is that a good way to seal
One benefit of EL headers is cooler temps in the cylinder. Since the GS UEL headers are technically a hybrid, have you guys noticed any cylinder temp improvements over stock UEL headers on the EJ engine? Any data at all on this?
+1 on this!
GrimmSpeed could you please respond with an answer?
I wanna know too
Literally bought my Tomei EL headers just before these were released, I really wanted to keep the UEL sound but with EL performance and there was nothing on the market, until this. Wish you guys offered it in the same ceramic coating as the up-pipe though.
*header 1 piece!!!!
@@knurri I come from a background of building V6's and V8's so I usually just say headers but in this case, my Tomei's have slip joints so they can come apart in two pieces.
I want to change headers mainly cause of know issues of cylinder temperature equal length headers help with that and provide good power gains does this header being a hybrid would help with cylinder temperature also?
Wellll dang now I need these to match my bb500 I ordered for my fresh long block build
Gonna be quite the build.
@@GrimmSpeed have the bb500s shipped out yet by chance? Ordered mine through flatirons a couple weeks ago, they said they were waiting to receive them from you guys 🥲
will it fit a 2009 Subaru Impreza r /rx ? or do I need to find some different ones
I had a bit of fitment issue on mine, idk if the piping was done improper on mine specifically, but the exhaust side piping was being restricted by the oil filter to where I couldn’t install mine. I’ve reached out to GS to see if they can help
Sorry to hear that Dylan. Reaching out to us is definitely the best way to get this issue solved. Hopefully you have heard back at this point. If not, drop us an email at support@grimmspeed.com
I'd love to try and create unequal headers for the ez36d. (Boxer six)
The sound would be so...
Smooth video, but no mention of getting the car tuned after the install. I imagine one would need it.
No you do not.
Don’t think you would need one
Can I upgrade the headers with the oem stock up pipe?
Will these fit an 06 Baja turbo? I'm shopping around
Can we please have a cold start sound clip and warm sound clip. The video you have on UA-cam sounds like a equal length header on the move. Does the cold start have the rubble?
We are working on putting more header sound clip videos out. The reason it sounds like an equal length is because we designed the header as a hybrid with one runner being 1.5x times the length of the other. Giving the header the performance of a EL setup and the sound of an UEL setup. The rumblue is more noticeable on start up.
Does it fit on a 08 Impreza non turbo?
Does this require a tune ?
should this header be wrapped?
So Ive heard that replacing the stock headers while using the factory turbo doesn't yield any real gains . I've also heard the opposite that spool time is decreased and there are some 30+ hp to be found while using them with a bigger downpipe. I have a stock 13 wrx and I'm really starting to have mixed feelings on what will really get me closer to 300whp . I was under the impression that a downpipe and tune would get me in to that hp range. It was suggested to me to try the killer b elh with downpipe. Could someone please weigh in this for me. Spending thousands of dollars to not see the gains would be a huge letdown considering the market value of the car.
If your looking for 300whp this is what I personally would recommend… although you’ve already stated the market value… I’ll leave that alone.
-Aftermarket EBCS
-Upgraded Fuel pump
-Bigger injectors 650cc+
-Cobb Gesi down pipe
-Bigger TMIC
And that’s about all you’ll need on higher (93oct) gas. This should all be explained in Nasioc. But here it is
How close does the plastic under tray come to this header ? With no heat shields won’t it melt the plastic under tray ?
I don't have an exact measurement off the top of my head, but we have been running header without any issues. If you need an exact answer, give our customer service team a call. They can supply you with a measurement.
Don’t forget to get a tune! Would of been nice to hear them in this video. Though get clear video guys! Thanks
On stock vehicle, a tune isn’t necessarily required. If the car is tuned, then I would talk to your tuner before installing.
Once you torque the header nuts to the head studs to spec do you have to check them again later on after a few heat cycles? Or is it just a one and done kind of deal?
Never hurts to check them but in general, they should stay tight due to the serrated nuts.
@@GrimmSpeed ok good to know. Thanks!
Will GS eventually offer a black ceramic coating option to these headers?
We may do a limited run. Keep an eye out!
2017 STI I would like to install the header only and leave the rest of the exhaust system stock. Do you think this is a good idea or should I change the whole system and do I have to tune it COBB system?
sure is nice of them to reply eh?
any plans on a GS intake manifold for VA's FA20?
Not at the moment, thats a big undertaking. We may decide to tackle that project in the future, but right now we are focusing our efforts elsewhere.
What about UEL headers for the FA24 in the '22 WRX?
That is something we should have coming down the pipeline. No time frame for that project though.
I'm assuming 05-09 LGT fitment too? But title card didnt mention.
05-09 LGT should* bolt up. Although we have not test fitted our unit on a Legacy yet. For better fitment analysis, reach out to our customer service team. They should be able to give you a more definite answer.
I have a stock 2015 STI. If I replaced my stock header with this unit, do I need a tune of any kind?
On a stock vehicle, no tune required for the header.
I have a 08 FXT, I know I need an oil pan and pickup. Does this fit with a killer b pan? or do I need to go with an STI pan...
Will fit with the Killer B pan, but you will need to get an STI or aftermarket oil cooler setup.
My stock up-pipe just cracked - thinking about putting this in at the same time as your up-pipe as the header needs to come out anyway.
I understand there should be no tuning required, but would there be any benefits to running GS up-pipe and header to otherwise stock car w/o tune?
Any change to airflow, intake or exhaust, should really have a tune
If you are replacing stock pieces and your car was not tuned before hand, you should be fine. If you were tuned previously then talk to your tuner about any parts you are considering swapping out.
@@GrimmSpeed My car was stock otherwise, and seems to be running fine just with the GS up-pipe (thermally coated). BTW, very nice quality piece vs stock.
I am looking forward to thermally coated version of this header for an upgrade when it comes.
How is the fitment with oil cooler lines and Sandwich plate ??
We havent done any testing with aftermarket oil coolers. It may be tight, but it should be possible.
Whats the weight? Couldnt find it on the site
Any hp gains from doin this? i want hp gains but wanna keep the ej rumble as much as possible.
All of our dyno numbers are posted on our product page. www.grimmspeed.com/unequal-length-header-04-21-sti-02-14-wrx-04-13-forester-xt-05-09-legacy-gt-05-09-outback-xt/
Will this work after market oil pans, more specifically iag oil pan
Yes, our UEL Header will work with the IAG oil pan.
what are the piping dimensions? many people have sold their headers with a similar design. I think because they are big tube they lose the low end spool. that's why i was asking about the size. I have a fujitsubo ex basic header(discontinued) and it's very good overall. I would consider this grimmspeed piece. Also a particular brand (shall not be named) equal length header has a similar design to this piece and have failed at the collector sections due to pressure. I wonder if grimmspeed paid attention to that as well.
Hey, we have all the header specs listed on the product page. Might just be easier to refer to that. Off the top of my head. Runner diameters measure 1.75" for the primary and 2" for the secondary.
We took the weak points of competitor's headers into consideration when designing our piece.
This video made it look so easy, but with my car, there was a nut on the passenger side center that didn’t want to budge loose. Luckily, with several sprays of PB blaster and waiting about 5min the thing came loose! There’s always that one bolt/nut!
Check out my youtube video of the sound with following mods:
GrimmSpeed UEL header, Cobb catted DP and Cobb SS exhaust.
what do you do with the ground strap originally connected to the oem header heat shield?
Which car do you have? I've never seen an EJ with a ground strap on the exhaust manifold.
@@carlb86 can't speak for him, but my 14 wrx has the ground in the stock heat shield. Mind you I once found it disconnected but it never caused issues for some reason 🤷♂️
If you have the grounding strap, you can connect it to one of the bolts on the manifold.
I also have a '14 sti with the ground strap on the heat shield. I am actually installing these headers now so glad to see someone asked about it. I will attach the grounding wire to the header bolts.
On a 2013 wrx hatchback non sti can i install this without a tune stock
Yes. Should not be a problem.
are clearances good for a killer b oil pan?
Yes, Header is compatible with killer b oil pan.
I have a 2010 impreza , will this work right out the box with my engine?
Impreza, no. It is not compatible.
A critical question I got for you guys is how much does this thing weigh?
Good question, the header comes in at around 24lbs.
When are the 2022 UEH coming out
In the beginning stages of development now. Not sure whether we will go UEH or EL. Still to be determined.
DEI titanium wrap... single wrap pass or double pass?
Given the quality of our steel and welds, we haven't seen any issues with wrapping. I'd say single wrap would be fine.
Will I need a tune after this install? Thanks you guys
yes
On the site it states no tune required, just bolt on.
@@mustanger24 🤔
If you are already tuned, you should talk to your tuner before installing. Stock vehicles typically don't require a tune.
are these safe to heat wrap?
We strongly advise against heat wrapping. Heat wrap can trap moisture and lead to premature corrosion on the welds. If you are looking for a heat management solution, we would suggest applying a thermal coating.
Stock 2018 STI but with Tomei cat back. Tune required??
No tune required.
Thankxxx
why do they look like equal length headers whats the difference between these and equal length headers cause they look very similar.
Our design utilizes one set of runners that is 1.5 times the length of the other, providing the rumble sound that we all love while maintaining the performance of an equal length setup. We have created a hybrid of the two styles to give you the best of both EL and UEL worlds.
@@GrimmSpeed ok thank you i just pre ordered them. hopefully i will get them before September which is the lead time i was told. cant wait!!
Is it compatible for the ej253
Header is not compatible with ej253.
Safe for swaintech coating?
I don't see why not.
Thanks, I've heard some manufacturers warn against wrap or ceramic coatings.
Do you need a tune for these?...
Essentially anything that affects airflow in or out of the engine will require a tune. That means that the only exhaust parts you can safely install without a tune are full cat-back or axle-back.
Good question, if vehicle is stock, no tune required. If you are tuned already and want to add these headers into your setup, Talk to your tuner.
How much shipped to the UK?
Shipping quotes can be found on our website.
What about ELH?
No plan on producing a ELH for EJ's. We have created a hybrid of the two styles to give you the best of both EL and UEL worlds.
I guess I’m confused, this header upgrade seems equal length, very similar design to the ets big tube equal length header? So if that’s the case why is it an “unequal” header?
The unequal length headers give the iconic boxer engine it's depth to the sound. If you make it equal length you will loose alot of that sound.
@@fsh4204 yeah I understand that, but these headers don’t look unequal length
Look at the length of the left and right tubes. They're not equal length

@@GrimmSpeed I have been wondering why this hasn't been done yet. I'm sure it's not perfect but still a great compromise. Does this actually work performance wise??
Stop, where it's Unequal, if it's equal?
Is tuning required?
No
If you are already tuned, you should talk to your tuner before installing. Stock vehicles typically don't require a tune.
@@GrimmSpeed what about if I’m on a stage 1+ ots map
@@ricastar2931 you will need a tune if you have an accessport and a downpipe
Go way sell yo item 👏 😅
UEL for FA in the works by any chance? I want rumble too!
Not at the moment.
Not a good idea considering the fa20 uses a twin scroll turbo. UEL headers would defeat the whole purpose of it
@@alisabah8773 yeah but rumble. I’m at 360whp on e40. I can up to e60 to make up for the power loss.
@@blueridge8992 iirc there is company making UEL header for fa20dit... But couldnt remember who... Try google for those.. 😅
my friends those are definitely not unequals, they look really equal length too me

FedEx just lost mine in the mail, after they delivered it to the wrong address like 500 feet from my house :(
Whhhat, sorry to hear that, definitely file a claim with them, they should have it on record that they delivered to the wrong place and reimburse you for it.
