The point I was trying to make was that in this modern age its silly to name foundations after countries, there isnt really an average people migrate and travel more now than they ever have before. There are dark and medium and light colours in every nation.
I do understand why this is problematic but my matches with Nars are still pretty close to my origins I was happy with their names.. But I still wished they changed to numbers I really prefer it it is more complete in a way
I had no idea they had foundations named after countries so i looked it up and found out that their second lightest one is called ”Finland.” As a Finn, that sounds pretty accurate. 😂
In ten years I'm going to release a foundation line and use a noun generator to pick the names. Yo-yo, armchair, pinecone, and sledgehammer will be the best sellers
It's interesting to hear how Freddie feels about the foundation shade names for women of colour, specially Black women. My skin tone is quite deep, and I *love* the names that are usually used for my foundation shade. Nut and spice names are beautiful!?
This is such a stretch in my opinion. As a person of color, the names of foundation have never bothered me. My skin is brown. Cinnamon, caramel, peanut butter, sand, and almond are also brown, with distinctive shades and undertones. I feel the intent in the beauty industry by naming their shades these colors isn't to degrade anyone's race, but to give you an idea of what shade of brown you are picking up and what sort of undertones the foundation shade might have. The real issue in the beauty industry for people of color in my opinion is shade inclusivity. More often than not, people with really deep skin tones, or really light skin tones can't buy certain foundations because cosmetic companies don't consider us.
i mean yh i feel like ivory, is calling me a slab of stone, i would much rather have smthing delicious sounding like roasted almond tbh, i was a bit irked on how long they went on about it. i much rather have companies expanding colours and undertones than really care baout the naming of said colours. i have a friend that's super super pale, and it is impossible for her to find a good match :/
Are people going to ignore the fact that this is a really good video idea. In this era of UA-cam it’s hard to think of new and exciting videos that will entertain all varieties of people. But people have to exploit the flaws of it. 1. You can use your hands to apply makeup. Why do you care so much And 2. People can do whatever they want to do. Woah, wow, really? So just stop trying to make everything your way. That’s the beautiful thing is that people have their own choices. SO KEEP IT TO YOUR SELF. Opinions are great but, when their taken to far, it turns into a monster
Izzy Froyo people are allowed to do whatever they want, meaning they are also allowed to comment their opinion on video. I'm not saying that you aren't allowed to say this, but you are being really dumb
The point is us whites are expensive things jewellery is made out of, and black women are consumables. If you can make the mental jump to describe a naturally appearing skin tone "porcelain", you can find a way to describe a dark skin in a way that doesn't make you sound like a cannible.
Everyone repeat after me: Having an opinion is okay. Expecting everyone else to share it is arrogance. Doesn't matter who you are, what your opinion is - everyone is entitled to their opinion. You are not entitled to control other people's opinion's. You are not entitled to bully other people for their opinions. Whether you're yelling at people for being "too sensitive" about foundation colours or you're shouting at people who think the colours are NBD because they're clearly being racist or dismissive, you're wrong by default because you are entitled to YOUR opinion, guys, you're not entitled to everyone else's. Food for thought ;)
Annie Lucy it may bother someone if they have opposing views but one cannot control them. As a gay person it bothers me when people hate gays but I cannot do anything, education of issues is great but force is incorrect no matter the opinion. I completely agree with you m.
Okay, but have you ever considered that typing a comment for a slight minority talking the undertones of this video might be pretty sensitive? This feels like you’re saying “people are entitled to their opinions but not when they’re mean about it or disagreeing with me”...
Exactly :) the best way to overcome stuff like that, in my experience, is to calmly correct or explain. If the other side ain't gonna listen to polite correction they're not gonna listen to ranting, either. Take responsibility for your thoughts, your feelings, your actions, but recognize you can't change theirs. Sometimes and asshole is just gonna be an asshole, you know? I'm not saying you shouldn't oppose them, but don't wrap up your wellbeing in trying to change them x
markeya lee I think she just meant that her skin already looks so good, the foundation doesn't really make any difference (so why use a product that doesn't even make her look different/better in any way)
Foundation also helps to keep other stuff like bronzer for more time so even with really smooth skin is not pointless to have one with a good match with your skin. :)
I use maybelline dream matte mousse. I mix it with sunscreen and moisturiser to make it lighter, because even light porcelain (The lightest shade) looks like 10 layers of fake tan.
Okay, I just want to clarify... NARS foundations are not necessarily associated with the skin tones of people from certain places. I am white and my color is "Fiji." Think about it... my white skin is nowhere near an islander's skin from Fiji.
The darker the foundations get the slightly more skin tone accurate the locations get, that's all I'm saying. My closest match is Tahoe, but I can't wear their foundations their darker colors are so orange it's ridiculous can't find a good match for me there... they're either too light or too orange.
I love that Freddy thinks so deep into this, or the writer of the script thought so deep into this, but honestly. Beauty industries are just picking words that are a similar color to the foundation. Porcelain- it's white. So really pale white people get porcelain. Cinnamon- it's brown. So black people get cinnamon. Hazelnuts are also brown. Seriously, Nutella is a reasonable skin color. Then you get those weird in-between shades where marketers have to pick names that sound appealing, like almond instead of baby vomit.
For everyone asking what you could call darker skin coloured foundation other than food names I have compiled a quick list to prove it's easy and not time consuming to just look. These in my opinion could be used: hazel, bronze, umber, Sienna, axinite, tan, mahogany, dusky, sard, pale brown, fawn, rosewood, deep brown, russet, dark copper, maple, tawny, andalusite, warm oak or honeyed oak? Perhaps then there would be a variant from all darker colours being just food related. There are words for different shades of brown along with item names of objects with a brownish colour, people just aren't using them. These are from my memory and some other sources, so apologies if not all are spelt correctly. This took about a minute. I'm sure these foundation company's have that time. Or even easier just use a number. It doesn't take a genius to remember one number.
Great examples. The names you thought of we're amazing. Still, I don't think there's anything wrong with using foods. Personally, I think almond, coffee and cinnamon are still lovely names. Variety would be nice though.
@@kirin1230 oh, I know! I wasnt replying to the OP! I mean that other people in the comment section were being rude to Freddy even when she clearly stated in the video what she thinks they should call the shades of foundation. Sorry for not clarifying that in my first comment! 🐰💖

If you really needed to comment, you could have said something like "her makeup looks really nice, I think all it needed was a tiny bit more blending towards the neck and it would really look incredible". Not trying to throw hate at you just a thought to spread more constructive criticism instead of just being mean :-).
carrie fowler i said it’s not hurting YOU. If she wants to wear that much makeup, then she’s allowed to. obviously her skin looks fine and healthy. Even if it wasn’t, it’s her choice. It really doesn’t affect you at all, so no need to bring her down because of it :)
but almond is a color, its a brown. the names help relate the color to something you can imangine. of course caucasion color names are going to be different names from african color names. i dont see the problem.
Emily lionlickr you must be 9 yes old, because women shouldn’t be an “almond” I mean I would rather jus have numbers instead of “chestnut” “almond” “dark chocolate” “white chocolate” I would rather have shades in numbers not objects. WOMEN AREN’T OBJECTS NOR ARE THEIR SKIN COLOR!!!!!!

I'm an extremely pale white girl and I've had foundation named "almond" match my skin, I assume for that exact inside-of-the-almond reason. Also, now I think I want Kristen to name a line of lipsticks.
Why don't they just name shades with compliments, like: oh I'm stunning, oh I'm a genius. It would be great and I think it would make people smile while doing their makeup
I think it’s because of her Rosacea. I think she’s mentioned that her skin tone is all over the place (she’ll have blotches of redness) so I was kinda assuming that was why she went heavy with her foundation. To get more of an even color.

The point I was trying to make was that in this modern age its silly to name foundations after countries, there isnt really an average people migrate and travel more now than they ever have before. There are dark and medium and light colours in every nation.
+
I do understand why this is problematic but my matches with Nars are still pretty close to my origins I was happy with their names.. But I still wished they changed to numbers I really prefer it it is more complete in a way
I had no idea they had foundations named after countries so i looked it up and found out that their second lightest one is called ”Finland.” As a Finn, that sounds pretty accurate. 😂
In ten years I'm going to release a foundation line and use a noun generator to pick the names. Yo-yo, armchair, pinecone, and sledgehammer will be the best sellers
I can’t wait to see that!!!
Sam N LMAOOO watch this happen to
imagine:
what's your foundation shade?
oh it's samurai sword, what's yours?
couch
imagine:
what's your foundation shade?
oh it's samurai sword, what's yours?
couch
omg i hope my shade is sledgehammer 🤞🏼
love how we all got recommended this at the same time
Haha same
Nope not mE :(
It's interesting to hear how Freddie feels about the foundation shade names for women of colour, specially Black women. My skin tone is quite deep, and I *love* the names that are usually used for my foundation shade. Nut and spice names are beautiful!?
Adom Acheampong I'd much rather have mocha or chocolate than porcelain or ivory tbh
I’m ivory and I’d rather have the name almond or cinnamon, because ivory reminds you of soap and like almond and cinnamon feel more cool!
They should do names that's are confident boosting. N10 beauty Y60 flawless W40 yaas qween
k fk I CRACKED UP AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
I'd buy a foundation that pumped me up for that reason alone! You're a genius
Beauty brands get at me
I’d buy that brand of makeup!
You know find the vegan? This is find the genius!!
Olivia Williams I agree. We are literally reaching for offense at this point.
Thank you for writing this so I didn't have too. xxxx
AMEN! Like how is "almond" more offensive than "sand"
Yes. Thank you so much for writing this. I thought the exact same thing.
i mean yh i feel like ivory, is calling me a slab of stone, i would much rather have smthing delicious sounding like roasted almond tbh, i was a bit irked on how long they went on about it. i much rather have companies expanding colours and undertones than really care baout the naming of said colours. i have a friend that's super super pale, and it is impossible for her to find a good match :/
@everyone who is talking about Freddie talking about the foundation names
Fetishisation. F-e-t-i-s-h-i-s-a-t-i-o-n. Not racism. NOT racism.
Rebecca Lakos huh?
Everyone is kinda bash8ng Freddie for saying the names are racist when she actually said they are fetishizing
I really thought she was reading too deep into foundation names lol
10:33 "you still look a mess"....the friend we all need 😂
tunecouture jj
Lmao true I’m that friend 💀💀
Now mix all the colors together and try it on
Carley Dolan then people would say they were copying s*****
Frankenfoundation?
then get lashed at bc Safiya made a video like that
Carley Dolan yes
Carley Dolan then they'd copy Safiya
foundation shade names are wild. i'm a very pasty white girl and i've definitely worn a shade called "almond"
Are people going to ignore the fact that this is a really good video idea. In this era of UA-cam it’s hard to think of new and exciting videos that will entertain all varieties of people. But people have to exploit the flaws of it.
1. You can use your hands to apply makeup. Why do you care so much
And
Preech sis preech
People can do whatever they want, so. They're allowed to share their opinions :))))
comment sections are literalyy made for people to share their opninions about the video, and you're telling us not to?
time she's basically saying if you dont have anything nice to say just dont say it at all lol
I’m so confused brown foundation is called mocha cause mocha is brown?
Peryn Curry yes next we are not allowed to call dark chocolate dark anymore...
The point is us whites are expensive things jewellery is made out of, and black women are consumables. If you can make the mental jump to describe a naturally appearing skin tone "porcelain", you can find a way to describe a dark skin in a way that doesn't make you sound like a cannible.
Aurora Häkli what would you rather have brown foundation be called?
Aurora Häkli um? porcelain is pale? just like the skin tone. i dont find a problem with it. its just a damn shade get over it
Aeryn numbers and letters like Fenti and Mac. there are lots of shades of brown.
Everyone repeat after me:
Having an opinion is okay.
Annie Lucy am i the only one who actually repeated everything?....
Okay, but have you ever considered that typing a comment for a slight minority talking the undertones of this video might be pretty sensitive? This feels like you’re saying “people are entitled to their opinions but not when they’re mean about it or disagreeing with me”...
Your snark at the end really negates your whole point
Exactly :) the best way to overcome stuff like that, in my experience, is to calmly correct or explain. If the other side ain't gonna listen to polite correction they're not gonna listen to ranting, either. Take responsibility for your thoughts, your feelings, your actions, but recognize you can't change theirs. Sometimes and asshole is just gonna be an asshole, you know? I'm not saying you shouldn't oppose them, but don't wrap up your wellbeing in trying to change them x
Freddie’s skin is soo pretty and perfect, why even waste money on foundation?
purplesquishyrabbit 1 because she wants to!
In a few other videos Freddie has said she doesn't wear makeup a lot of the time.
Believe it or not people wear make up because they want to, not because they have to
markeya lee I think she just meant that her skin already looks so good, the foundation doesn't really make any difference (so why use a product that doesn't even make her look different/better in any way)
Foundation also helps to keep other stuff like bronzer for more time so even with really smooth skin is not pointless to have one with a good match with your skin. :)
I’m always porcelain in everything but it’s so hard to find a colour light enough for me because porcelain sometimes even looks a little to dark 😂😂
minimissmixa same I usually just pick up the lightest shade no swatching necessary
same! the only shade ive found thats light enough (and not *too* expensive) is flesh cosmetics' "froth" shade. its my favorite!
SAME or they're light enough but the undertone is completely wrong
Same here, I always buy porcelain and still somehow look like I'm wearing a mask
I use maybelline dream matte mousse. I mix it with sunscreen and moisturiser to make it lighter, because even light porcelain (The lightest shade) looks like 10 layers of fake tan.
At buzzfeed you can walk around wearing anything and no one will judge
yep
They already know
Worst. They judge But dont say anything about it, instead they say somenthing like :queen you look Great, i dont notice
Most people probably assume that, if people are wearing something weird, it’s for a video.
They should do one with bras:
Same sizes at different stire
Okay but Freddie in the red sweater made me gasp, she GLOWS
I am obsessed with Freddie
srslytoni
Ikr she’s gorgeous 😍😍😍
My son Eugene appeared,wassup
And makeup brands need to get their things together
Alicia Cruz I like your profile pic😜
Alicia Cruz I like your profile pic😜
Alicia Cruz a lot of people like your profile pic.
Alicia Cruz I like your profile pic 😜
I DONT lIKE YOUR PROFILE PIC
Okay, I just want to clarify... NARS foundations are not necessarily associated with the skin tones of people from certain places. I am white and my color is "Fiji." Think about it... my white skin is nowhere near an islander's skin from Fiji.
I don't have a NARS foundation match, but my concealer is Chantilly
im punjabi and my shade is punjab lol
Megan new sub thanks for explaining !!
The darker the foundations get the slightly more skin tone accurate the locations get, that's all I'm saying. My closest match is Tahoe, but I can't wear their foundations their darker colors are so orange it's ridiculous can't find a good match for me there... they're either too light or too orange.
Still it’s wrong to label the color of skin to were The people are lightest or darkest. (Weather or not it’s accurate)
Addison Diamondhurricane exactly
Baby Vomit needs to be a shade name pronto
Fred said, she would rather they call the foundations something like "color 450"! Did anyone pay attention to the video?
@@daisychainmilk Chloe said in her comment it would be easier to just use a number.
@@kirin1230 oh, I know! I wasnt replying to the OP! I mean that other people in the comment section were being rude to Freddy even when she clearly stated in the video what she thinks they should call the shades of foundation. Sorry for not clarifying that in my first comment! 🐰💖
@@daisychainmilk Ohh, sorry then. 😅
I’m so pale, my color is literally “pale ivory”, like IVORY IS LITERALLY ALREADY JUST OFF WHITE 😂
Me toooo
LMAOO
I just look for the palest one w/ slight cooler undertones.
Picking foundations for stage productions has led to me finding some interesting names for shades... "Armpit" was one I legit cackled over.....
@@AerCloud ah, yes, I will be playing sweeney Todd with the foundation color of *armpit*
the bobby brown foundation looked like it was Freddy's exact match. It was so pretty on her skin
Bobbi*
Bobbi Brown foundation is amazing. Don’t know why it’s not more popular
Sharney not cruelty free and kind of expensive
I don't think cinnamon means "spicy " because of a colored woman's personality I think it just means the color of cinnamon... lol
Dragoon I think she looked wayyyy to into that
+Izzy Louise same
I guess she meand that usually «white» shades dont use food as names, they use things that are elegant or expensive , while using words as chocolate etc to describe black people its kinda cliche and fetish
Loreto Hidalgo It's not the deep, they're just using fancy names that sound nice and low-key match the colour
One of my best foundation matches ever was to a shade called "cream" - altho my girlfriend at the time called it "ghost"
Fred: it's called cinnamon cuz black people are spicy
Me: it's called cinnamon cuz cinnamon is brown
Ba Nana yeah and our skin is brown :)
Ba Nana exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly!!🙄
Cinnamon is brown lol it’s literal. Some people take things too hard s. Not like they said mud or sh*t and for non POC “pure” “superior” 😅😂
Words have tones and connotations...
The original comment section :
well Imma head out
Yeah, my shade match in Estee Lauder is "cool bone." Nothing more "desirable" than being compared to a skeleton, am I right?
Mine is 1N2 Ecru... I love being compared to unbleaches Silk...
Well at least the bone they are comparing us to is cool
One of the shades of Ben Nye's stage makeup I've seen that would work for me is Pale Vampire. Thank you very much, I love being compared to a bloodsucking monster. :P
At least you’re “cool” lol
You are a skeleton.
My foundation is called “Alabaster” and that’s deadass just a rock.
Cammie Yeah do u use Jouer?
Mines porcelain. I'm so white, and have impossible skin. It won't tan. When it sunburns it sunburns fast and becomes a shade whiter when it heals 😂
mines nyx alabaster, but i had no idea what the word was I thought 'alabaster' was an animal like armadillo or someting XD
Me too I have freckles so its just like....ok
Psychic Vampire same
This is why I love Kristin; all her metaphors are killing me
They really are the best
Where are all the comments like this video was posted 2 years ago like🤨🤨🤨
Umm there's 11k comments
Btw I’m a little sad that they merged Lady Like and As/is. They were two different groups of people!
2:39 maybe they call their shade cinnamon because cinnamon is brown
Elley Henderson fr
Holy shit! A logical fucking thought!!
Honestly 😂
No shit Sherlock
Noooooooooo... Really? Who would've thought of that?
Someone tell Kristen about beauty blenders please.... That makeup is like a mask
niamh roe I know.. It was really disgusting to watch
Finally someone said it...
I don't think theres anything wrong with her makeup. Its quite mean the way you phrased that. If you really needed to comment, you could have said something like "her makeup looks really nice, I think all it needed was a tiny bit more blending towards the neck and it would really look incredible". Not trying to throw hate at you just a thought to spread more constructive criticism instead of just being mean :-).
Also, someone teach her how to put on lipstick without coloring outside the lines...
ok u have ur opinion but just let the girl live god damn
Those foundation names are making me hungry in the beginning 😂
Itsyaboi Shay I'm eating rn yay

tHANK YOU like day 2 for kristen (is that her name??) looked like she just dunked her face into a bucket of paint
Makeup snobs ahoy
Nowhere has my shade. I guess not that many people are green tho.
wtfRICK
Same
Iam basically an olive
My friend had some failure somewhere in her body when she was a baby that makes her skin slightly yellow. She's never gonna find a foundation shade
@Everyday Everynight Latata maybe
Elphaba, that u?
she does not need that much foundation oh my god kristen
carrie fowler I know right it was cakey and girl needed a beauty blender I love you kristen though please dont clog your pores
Maybe she likes wearing that much. Doesn’t hurt you for her to wear that much, does it? :)
Rose it could literally hurt her skin but go off
carrie fowler i said it’s not hurting YOU. If she wants to wear that much makeup, then she’s allowed to. obviously her skin looks fine and healthy. Even if it wasn’t, it’s her choice. It really doesn’t affect you at all, so no need to bring her down because of it :)
carrie fowler don't tell her what to do
but almond is a color, its a brown. the names help relate the color to something you can imangine. of course caucasion color names are going to be different names from african color names. i dont see the problem.
Emily lionlickr people are not objects they are human beings!! Do you even know what an object is?
Ruby Randolph But what she said was correct its to help you imagine what the colours look like based off of things you know the colour of. This doesn't mean she is 9 years old
Ruby Randolph Men wear makeup too lmao. And just because you relate the colour of a foundation to something in nature doesn't mean people are objects. You're overthinking the meaning behind these names
Ruby Randolph lol STFU. Almonds are brown. Chestnuts are brown. It's just a way of identifying colors stop taking everything so seriously
I'm a woman of colour, and I've never thought the term 'cinnamon' would have any other implication other than what shade of brown I was looking at. I think they're reeaaallly over thinking this.
Rosh Rosh lmao fr i didn't get that part at all
I'm wondering what comparison they would prefer. Wood names? Types of soil? What is the brown equivalent of porcelain?
I swear, freddie is legit REACHING
Many times the “cinnamon” is not near the color of cinnamon at all. It’s just this random name the beauty industry invented
theyre just named random arty sounding names like ???? freddie is REACHING
My color always is Beige, kinda a boring color... and I'm a boring person.
Freddy, macadamias are actually pretty light. Kristen would be closer to macadamias.
maybe on the inner side but as far as i know it's pretty "brown" on the outside
The shell is brown though
Not the point-
Kristin... Babe. Love you, but that is SO much foundation. I can't imagine that looks good in real life!
Isabella Camacho exactly what I was thinking
Remember tho they are kinda going more for the “stage makeup” while doing this because they are filming.
Never mind way too much
Same! It looks sooo cakey
She has intense redness tho so I think she caked it on to try to layer on coverage.
If I had a makeup line I would name the colors
actually transparent
very very pale

my shade is literally called 'translucent'...i need sunlight..
Yep...I once won a paleness competition with my friends against the finalist - a piece of paper. I'm with you there.
Mine is called light porcelain...
Mines ‘snow day’
My sister.

Shea Moisture back at it again with their bs and shenanigans

Broke With Expensive Taste IM DEAD LMAO
JazzRoseM lmao clever. Lol just rename the brand altogether at this point
when I saw their name, I looked directly into an imaginary camera like "The Office"
Shenanigans is top 36 favorite words
In Kristin’s last right side the foundation was called ‘Ivory beige’
If you pause, the bag clearly says Nude Ivory, which she says.
I'm an extremely pale white girl and I've had foundation named "almond" match my skin, I assume for that exact inside-of-the-almond reason.
Also, now I think I want Kristen to name a line of lipsticks.
JessTalks lol
when the foundation was poured on the beauty blender I died on the inside
Same
Eleni Linou yt i frickin died bro
Omg saaaaame. I was like 'who u disrespectin sister's😂😂
Eleni Linou I
It made me hungry 🤔
they should do this with lipsticks omg
I also like when foundation names are nice and literal. Like light ivory, medium ivory, dark beige, medium, deep... just actual colours.

Miniature Bob Saget Your wrong it is not engine. Or sweaty sweety.#haterslearntospellmovement
Mine is literally called translucent. Not translucent setting powder. The lightest shade of foundation.
Sydney Lauren what brand is it?
Omg wtf
I use Mary Kay translucent, lol
Mine is ‘transparent’
Mine is called linen. Because who doesn’t want to be bedsheets 🙃
Why don't they just name shades with compliments, like: oh I'm stunning, oh I'm a genius. It would be great and I think it would make people smile while doing their makeup
They should make one like this but with pant sizes
Emily Cox ugh yes
Havent they?
oml yes
i think it'll honestly scare me to see what insane differences there are for kristen bc plus size clothing seems notorious for being weird
Can we just stop to appreciate how Hot Eugene is...
STOP FETISHIZING ASIANS
i think they just meant he's hot,,,
AlinaIsDeadLikeMarbles It isn't fetishism. It's finding someone attractive, and Eugene is a good looking guy.
If I had a makeup brand all of the colours would just be called complimentary words like beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, fierce, queen, wow, YAS, etc
Lucy I don’t wear makeup, but I love the idea of wearing something, that the colour name of is YAS
Yes that would make many girls AND BOYS feel a lot more confident!
Kristen really caked on the foundation.
HexRuin you’re really caking on the irrelevant comments
BluebellDaisy 2006 how is it irrelevant? The video is literally about foundations.....
I agree, she put on way too much. She needs to use less and blend better.
I think it’s because of her Rosacea. I think she’s mentioned that her skin tone is all over the place (she’ll have blotches of redness) so I was kinda assuming that was why she went heavy with her foundation. To get more of an even color.
