Flying a Cessna 150 to Catalina Island

- Flight from F70 (French Valley) to Catalina Island (Avalon, KAVX) on Saturday morning, August 13, 2016. Film starts about 25 miles East of AVX and ends just after departing the AVX traffic area once I am on with SoCal approach.
I only made the one approach and landing at AVX.
GoPro Hero4 silver on the port main gear and a Hero3+ silver in the cockpit.

I had the pleasure and privilege of making the same flight in a rented Cutlass RG out of Gillespie Field back in 1996. I thank you so very much for allowing me to relive the joy of that wonderful day as my flying days are long over now.
Flying becomes such a milestone in our lives; I am glad my flight video took you back.
Great video ...SoCal native here..took all my primary training out of Southwest Skyways at KTOA (Torrance)airport..the Catalina buffalo burger run was a tradition...my instructor took me over there early on ..they waived landing fees if you had lunch there..flew 172s..182rgs..on up to a 310 into there with no issues..loved the flight
Avx had its share of mishaps..in the time I frequented the island I saw a 177rg gear up while I was running up a 172...saw the after math of the Lear that over ran 22..and a Cherokee loaded on a trailer off the ramp with the wings off and a hole in the windscreen
That runway is really nice now that it has been rebuilt but,,, the landing fee!
Now that was different! Never seen Catalina Island before this video. Sort of landing on an aircraft carrier.
A long time ago, I was a deck hand on a charter fishing boat that left out of Balboa Marina. We would many times make a trip over to Catalina, as there was some really good fishing to be done there. Thanks for sharing!👍🇺🇸

A really great video. I'm originally from So Cal and learned how to fly in the late seventies out of Brackett Field and Cable Airport. I so much enjoy vicariously flying with you. Perhaps one day I'll have a 150 of my own. Wishing you many blue skies and tailwinds and Thank You !

Flying over the ocean, I think I would have worn an inflatable PFD. I heard Catalina runway has been repaved. Nice video!
I flew from Long Beach (KLGB) to Avalon (KAVX) in Catalina Island by the first time on a Cessna 172 on July 29 2019. As you mentioned in your video the runway still is rough, but any way was a very nice experience. I has to pay the $35.00 parking fee, because the restaurant was already closed (2:30 pm).
Yeah a steep landing fee but well worth it right?

Great Video, My Cessna 152 just had its annual completed this week. I plan to fly to Catalina next month from KHMT. Pretty much will do exactly your route. Picking up a pair of constant wear PFD at Aircraft Spruce this morning .I like your excellent 1080 video, Thank You

Some years ago, a buddy of mine flew his Cessna 140 taildragger (with a Lycoming 130 HP engine) to Catalina with his wife for two proverbial "$100 Hamburgers." On departure, however, my friend's engine cut out, and he had the alternatives of ditching in the sea, crashing in the craggy mountains, or attempting "The Impossible Turn" and 180 back to the runway. Somehow, he got the plane back to the airport. His wife made him sell the plane shortly thereafter. Jus' sayin'....

Man you are brave flying to Catalina on c150 !I flew to Catalina on C172 I had water raft and I had my surf suit on,I don't really trust on Cessna plane lost 2 friends Both was engine failure.

I gave my son his first complex airplane flight in a C-210 by flying out to Catalina for one of those famous $100 hamburgers.

I sold her a couple years ago to an aircraft museum up North that trades flight instruction for restoration labor. Nice people.

I sold her to the Port Townsend Aero Museum for the purpose of flight training volunteer restoration workers.
They had conventional gear trainers but needed a tricycle gear. I was glad to see 20S go there.
