@leonjorisr if we go off Rob Dahm's track record...then it will be 13 years and a bunch of crowd funding and ripping viewers off. Oh and don't forget the fact he didn't do majority of the work and paid ppl to do it for him.
Ok so a traditionally transverse engine adapted to a longitudinal configuration with an adapter to an Audi trans bolted to another adapter for a TKO trans in a Japanese car from the 80s. This is why Hoonigan builds are the greatest and the most entertaining! Good luck, Scotto! Looking forward to racing against your VR86 in Gymkhana GRID 😉
You think Scottos projects never get done because he doesn't have time but no this proves its just that he is wildly over ambitious with what can be achieved. Please never change scotto because it's so much fun to watch 😁
Watching scotto work on cars really gives that same level of anxiety that working on my own cars does. It's that primal fear at every step of the way that's just so relatable.
Every scotto video should just be called story time. "If you dont know what dry sump is grab a snack. Ever since the invention of...."😂. Never change scotto
loving this Build, keep it up Scotto, I know Some of Us in South-Africa is watching with eagle eyes, VR6 Fans!!!!!!! Only QUESTION is how can you Double Like a video on You Tube?
@@ericmiles11 I have yet to start because Im about to buy a classic sr5😂 But once that toyotas running my jettas gonna be pretty nuts. Big turbo alh with 4 linked 8.8 and full tube chassis on kings. Mini diesel prerunner basically
This is my favourite build for the grid scotto cos I've never seen a front to rear drive conversion can't wait to see the finished build and see how it goes on the grid 👍👍
How many months there's left until gymkhana grid? Because you'll need lots and lots of time to finish this and I know that once it's done it will be awesome, but until there... Sorry for the lack of faith Scotto, but the Mercury is running OK lol?
034 is no joke, im not a vw fanboy but i work on these cars for a living and can tell you, everything i got from them, was absolutely perfect and worked as expected, i wish they could expand in more brands but quality will suffer with size
Crazy build..I'm still not over the small Audi he built a couple years back for Sema that we never even see anymore..🤦🏽..Low key Scotto has one of the best car habits and collections out..👍🏽🏁
Best spigot bearing trick I was taught was rather than crappy adapters, measure the ID of the hole for the bearing in the flywheel or crank and OD of the of the gearbox spigot and go to a bearing shop and check for listings. If the spigot doesn't engage into the gap into the flywheel, get a wider or even a double row bearing if it needs to come out 10mm past the mounting face.
And I'm done with peoples gymkhana grid cars this makes me really excited for these cars to get done and even more excited to see shartkart get work on
This is super exciting to see! The progress is insane and it actually looks like it’s going to work! Inspires me to get the major work finished up on my car
When you use the tracing feature of the table, try not to make sharp corners. Round corners are easier for the eye to follow. If you need a sharp corner, add a loop to the corner. I used one in high school welding class.
Dig it. Vw guy myself and have shared a taste of flavors with scotto myself throughout the years. Although you could bring back the ol school hip hop background music imo.
Yes Brian. I’m sad you didn’t go for the v5 engine, but I’ll forgive you for using the 24v vr6. I love this build. Btw, how’s the other half’s 944 coming on? Would be great to see her ripping that on track too! Big up 👊
I had a manual vr5 Bora with custom headers and exhaust. It sounded fkn sweet...thing used to have a wail that was not unlike a V10 kinda sound. A lot less power than a V10 tho 🤣 but the thing still sounded great
Dry Sump TL;DR: more oil pumps are used to drain the oil from the pan into a separate reservoir, resulting in a shallower pan and improved oiling since you will never starve the oil pump thanks to the redundancy of the dry sump scavenging design. I had guessed since you mentioned needing to mount as low as possible that a dry sump system might be in that engine's future. That pan looks sick, so I really hope it all works out. It'll make it so much easier to cram that engine into the shallow engine bay of the AE86. I'm also looking forward to the engine rebuild, since you typically need to replace rods and pistons at a minimum in order to boost that thing to crazy performance without accidentally making a bomb. Not sure how much power you can squeeze out of it in a high-compression NA configuration, but I do know you'll need race gas or pure ethanol to keep pre-ignition at bay. Either way it'll be a really fun build. The VR6 is a wild engine design.
With the adapter plate that changes the VR6 Bolt pattern to the Audi/VW 4cyl bolt pattern, you should be able to bolt a Ford Type 9 gearbox to the VR6 (Found in the Ford Sierra). This is the gearbox we used to convert a 1.8T VW Passat to a RWD.
My buddy did a rwd Corrado with a vr6 and he had oil starvation problems when he was going hard in turns but idk all the details and you are a vw nerd so you probably already figured out that problem its gonna be a cool car bro I like the swap choice its different and it's not a common setup I dig it
Hey guys super random, what’s Scotto’s plan with the old VR6 adaptor and Fly wheel?? I’m just doing a project on a 3.6 VR into a Nissan patrol here in AUS and was gonna run a BMW gearbox behind it.
Now wait just a minute…Isn’t this Scott guy a bidness man who runs [H]oonigan? Well yes, but he’s so much more! Thank you for this, I can’t wait to hear/see this running.
Scotto breaks down what's on the Engine Wall here: ua-cam.com/users/shorts4cZTiNZPidc
Make a dry sump tank to fit in the side ov the wheel arch maybe vin ?
scotto you need to rebuild shit car. can we have a rule loser rebuild shit car!
You guys should have done the Porsche Cayenne VR6
Scotto's beard is going more and more mad scientist as the build goes on! Feels like watching a Rob Dahm video.
Homie belongs in Alaska with the rest of us 🤙
How long will it be when the build is finished?
By the end he’ll look more like rob zombie
@leonjorisr if we go off Rob Dahm's track record...then it will be 13 years and a bunch of crowd funding and ripping viewers off. Oh and don't forget the fact he didn't do majority of the work and paid ppl to do it for him.
They have him scheduled to be Santa for the Christmas sale and want to give him enough time to get a nice full one.
They already make an adapter to bolt a vr6 to a gs6 which are abundant, cheap, light and hold well well over 600hp
Full-Bearded Scotto is a rare, mythical creature that only appears when a build is 80% complete
I believe you meant %80 thought out.
You think Scottos projects never get done because he doesn't have time but no this proves its just that he is wildly over ambitious with what can be achieved. Please never change scotto because it's so much fun to watch 😁

Hahahah. The Anxiety is REAL.
Hahahah. The Anxiety is REAL.
Never considered myself a VW guy, but this build is sick cause it so far out of the norm. Loving it and can't wait to hear it ripping!!!
Also very much not a VW guy, but I'll be damned if the VR6 isn't top 5 best sounding engines
Every scotto video should just be called story time. "If you dont know what dry sump is grab a snack. Ever since the invention of...."😂. Never change scotto
I put the motor in motor mouth.
Bracket Brian is about to be god tier with that plasma table
Dude you gotta make that VR work! It's gonna be the coolest best sounding swap ever! It'll def be viral.
loving this Build, keep it up Scotto, I know Some of Us in South-Africa is watching with eagle eyes, VR6 Fans!!!!!!!
Only QUESTION is how can you Double Like a video on You Tube?
More like Bokke eyes 😂
Crazy build and by far the most interesting of the Grid series.
Scotto's build is the only one I care about. Everyone else is doing the basic swaps and taking the easy way out. Scotto is the man!
Just saw a clearance sale on VR6's; makes me wish W8's would come back!
Damn, that new plasma table is dope! You'll have to show us that cardboard auto-bracketeering in action!
VR6 is a lifestyle. Even here in South Africa. There will never be a better sounding 86 ever!
at least you know Scotto builds will give endless content....
Watching Scotto wrench is so wholesome. I could do that all day long.
Yes I love vr6s ive been waiting for something like this.. Been wanting to put one in my toyota mini truck
Scotto doing this is really going to help my mk4 jetta wagon RWD project. Figuring out all the hard stuff for me to copy.
Lmao Im doing a rwd mk4 jetta build too

@MadCactusFab I've said that if the VR6 rwd car goes well the next one will be a TDI. My first car was an ALH Jetta and man I miss that car.
@@ericmiles11 Volkswagen just does it too good with their engines. Ive always been thinking if I blow up my tdi Ill vr6 or 2.5t swap it
Love the problem solving episodes
Love your style Scotto. Classy, in your own way. [H]
Crazy build and by far the most interesting of the Grid series.. at least you know Scotto builds will give endless content.....
finally another running (sort of) scotto vehicle
I really hope Scotto finishes this. It's turning out to be my favourite build by far
Best of the Gymkhana Grid builds by far. Go figure Scotto knows how to make a good video series
Crazy build and by far the most interesting of the Grid series.. I always love a good Scotto episode.
At 4:23 we hear the finest audio production and sound editing in automotive sports! Amazing skill with the boom mic!
Can't wait to see this AE86 wookie finally come together
With a tool box like that I have faith ❤
Scotto,, love ya man! Just gonna cross my fingers for ya... still got all the wiring/plumbing to overcome!
Give us more technical builds like this.
By far the most interesting and entertaining car build on the internets right now!
This is my favourite build for the grid scotto cos I've never seen a front to rear drive conversion can't wait to see the finished build and see how it goes on the grid 👍👍
I always love a good Scotto episode
I want a good coffee in my hand and I want to hang out with Scotto and just work on a car :) love it. Scotto is the goods.

I must say, you men have evolved immensely. Bravo.
by far my favorite build, need more wild builds like this!!! less bolt on builds
Dude Issam is a God in the vw/audi world he has made some seriously bad ass work over the years!
if Scotto finishes the build he is officially a legend
Scotto's is a genius, Scott you need to make that VR6 set up Turbo no matter what ! 😈

I'm. Digging you are putting a dub engine in this!!! I was a huge 1.8t boy back in the day!! I'm loving this
Gotta say it's cool finally seeing you work on a car Brian
This 86 is going to be a beast ! ❤
Scotto with the surf shirt aloha brah
Love this! On top of this being a cool build I feel like I'm learning a lot. So thanks for the explanations as well!

Scotto nonchalantly graftin away at this complicated asf build 💪💪💪
We need a "Story time with scotto" channel I could listen to you stories alday
What an epic idea 👌 definitely will be the best sounding AE86 out there maybe some cool ITB set up on the VR6 also 🙏
Can't wait for the finished product
16v is a great backup. VRs belong in all the things. 100% approve sir, I has the volksvirus. Keep doing the peoples work.
I appreciate the wet sump / dry sump explanation. I've always heard the terms but nobody's ever explained the difference.
Aww shit let’s go Scotto 🤘🤘🤘 Been waiting on this build.
Love how the Toyota engine was just hanging out most of the episode like the back up vehicle from Top Gear.
I don't think there were any Toyota engines in this episode, the backup engine was a VW engine as well. 😅
Scotto doesn't speak Toyota. But he's fluent in V.A.G
I'm actually wondering if Scotto is going to actually fit in there when the cage is done.

Dry Sump will fix that. Pan design on transverse vs longitudinal is a big factor!
Scotto is the best boss ever.
is that a mk4 2.8 24v or a 3.2 24v? Are you planning on boosting the engine? If so, are you going to run a head spacer or low comp pistons?
this is just the best. the best.
I fck with Scotto! We need to see him doing more build series
Nice mk1 Jetta dash scotto!
The engine wall is gangster
Scotto the legend!!
Scotto is going with the hardest build possible just to flex on his boys
Scotto's got that Mike Musto beard going on! Love it 😂
The ZF trans was the part i was looking forward to the most - oh well
