That's the 1st-gen GoPro Remote, called the Smart Remote. It was superseded by The Remote. What a great, inexpensive fix - good going, Eric! FWIW, it'll work with the Hero 5 to the Hero 8, and Max, but doesn't work with the 9/10/11/12 - you need The Remote for that.
I always enjoy the shout outs. I definitely will have to check out Slappy's channel. It's always fun to see how riders live on the road. I have a GoPro remote but have never used it. It came with a Hero 3 camera but I don't think it works with a Hero 8. Maybe I'll see if I can find it and give it a whirl. Since my cameras are generally within arm's reach I've never really needed it. I could use a remote though for my camera that I shoot b roll with. I think there is an app that will trigger it but I've been too lazy to try it out. Thanks for another fine video.
If you run dual cameras, it's a slick option. One button pushes, and you're off and rolling. This is dry content, but to the right person might be helpful.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures I admire your ability to fix things. I keep hoping you'll motivate me to fix something myself. I'm getting pretty lazy when it comes to turning screwdrivers and wrenches!
If you run dual cameras, it's a slick device. Both cameras turned off. Hit the record button the remote and it simultaneously turns on and starts filming with both cameras and gives you a visual on the remote that both cameras are filming.
Great video Eric...Very Detailed and easy to follow. Kake has a remote that has been acting up, perhaps it's the battery. Thanks. Yeah, Slappy is a really good guy who also became our good friend.
Very simple to do but you would like they would use a simple watch battery that you can easily replace. Then again i guess it's part of their make you buy a new one when it goes bad scheme. Good tutorial.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures When they work, they are great! Having an external battery is the PITA because theirs are so flaky. I did the same for the remote and the cams. When you try to use an aftermarket battery for the cameras, they prevent some features from being used. Uncool, GoPro man. Uncool.
That was awesome.... tks Bruh for the huge shout out.... 10-4

Going to def check @SlappyAdventures out @@KrakensGarageandAdventures
Good video that should save people some money!!😊
Hopefully, it helps a few folks.
Wow i did not know it was the complicated, thanks Eric
It's a boring tech video. But I hope it helps a few folks. Thanks for stopping by.
Hey Eric. Thanks for the information
Thanks for stopping by, Larry.

Thanks for the info! I should have specified which gen on this video.
I bought that same Cobalt small screwdriver set the other day at Home Depot. 😎👍👍
Been thinking about a remote for my GoPro
It's a pretty good kit. When you need it, you need it.
Great how to video mate.
How good do those BSA's look. Sadly, they are not available here in Australia yet.
I hope they come soon to Oz. It's a sharp looking bike!
Nope, no way my eyes or fat fingers could do all that micro electrical engineering surgery succesfully 🤓😂
I hear you. This is another boring technical video, but hopefully it helps someone.
Class act shout outs, Eric (as always). And that BSA was really easy on my eyes 😁👍👍
I thought of you when I saw the BSA. That had your name written all over it.
Cool when my Kraken fix features Kraken fixing something. Noice!
Lmao! 😂😂😂

Could GoPro have used any smaller screws 🧐😖🤣
Seriously! I had to use the overhead magnifier. Lol
Good intel ...I've never heard of a gopro remote like that .Not exactly a plug and play battery set up ...jeez they certainly don't make it easy.

Great to know Eric thanks very much . @@KrakensGarageandAdventures
Great video. Based on your experience with these, do you still recommend getting one? Reviews seem mixed these days.
The short answer is, NO! It should last more than 1.5 years.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures at least now the info is out there. Shame on them for not making it better.

Yeah, Slappy is a really good guy who also became our good friend.
Thanks for putting @Slappy Adventure's on my radar. Just a good, down to earth, solid dude.
great diy brother !!!
Thank you, sir.
Doesn't seem to hard of a fix, well done Eric, good job. I'll have everyone just send theirs to you for repairs 🤭🤭
Hopefully it helps a few folks. I wouldn't want to do this for a living.
Great tech video !............JB..
I don't know about great. Watching tech videos areblike watching grass grow till you need them. 😂

My feelings exactly. There's a lot micro surgery going on here that isn't necessary.
Maybe first 😂
Winner, winner, chicken 🐓 dinner!
Intricate work Eric. I have one of those remotes myself but only used it a couple of times. Need to try it again.
When they work, they're great. Problem is they don't work too often. 😂
Definitely gonna order a new battery. My remote has been sitting in a drawer for 2 years. Great share Eric!
It may still be good. throw it on a charger and see how it fairs.
Fireball gave it up on the end of video a quick pan down a revealed a kawasaki on the side of the tank lol. Now what size is it 400 maybe.
You have a keen eye 👁 Joseph! I'm film a full reveal today. It should drop on the next day or two.
An interesting video Eric, good to know that is possible. Thanks for the shout out, there are lots of mods in the pipeline for the Gold Star.
Thank you for sharing your stunning new Gold Star! A handsome bike I might add.
Great video, Eric.
Keep em rolling.
Love the Aussie cap.
Thank you, Alan. See you in a few months.
What a fun project. I do not have a soldering iron that small, but it would be a great excuse to buy one. Good stuff!
You really do love these type of project. It was micro surgery for me! lol
👍👍
Thanks for stopping by and the thumbs up! 👍🏻
Wow all that for a battery replacement? Seems to be old engineering for current tech.
Nicely done.
It really is terrible tech. A dimple disc battery with a hatch would do.
I've got one of these remotes - have never used it. If the battery is cactus, this will be very reassuring - good stuff!
When they work, they're gold. Key word being "when." Lol
Thanks for showing us this replacement it can come in handy in the future
It's just a boring tech video. I hope it helps a few folks should they have the same issue.
Great info .. Mine still works but its getting long in the tooth like the owner LOL
Ummm, I don't think so. I'm not on the track these days. 😂
Thats the Gen1 the 2nd gen is called THE remote. Good breakdown!
Thanks. I'm a bit disappointed in the battery crapping out so soon.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures honestly you would be best served moving to the Remote. Way less headaches with that one
dang they certainly didn't make that easy to change a battery
It's a crappy job to replace it. More, and more, I'm getting disenchanted with GoPro.
Mine did the same thing! Thanks for the DIY tutorial! I'll be doing the same now!
Honestly, it's a royal PITA. I'm more than disenchanted with GoPro products. 😂

I have one of those remotes, got it several years ago, only used it once. The replacement loks straight forward. Good one, Eric. Cheers
If you run dual cameras, they really are very helpful. Maybe give yours another go?
@KrakensGarageandAdventures I have a Hero4 sessions and a 360 Max. Each has its own. I usually start them together so can sync with audio. Cheers
Nice work Eric, good to know this can be done 😎👌
Thanks 👍Just a boring tech video. Lol
Going to have put my glasses on to do this 😁
Right! I felt like I was doing micro surgery.
Good video Eric, I didn’t know those batteries could be replaced. Nice shoutout!!!👍🏼👍🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thank you, GB!
