  • In this video I share the six watercolor greens on my palette. I swatch and discuss Green Gold, Sap Green, Phthalo Green, Cascade Green, Phthalo Turquoise and Cobalt Teal Blue. I reveal the pigment numbers and the unique qualities of each paint. #watercolor #greens #favoritecolors
Green is an important secondary color that I use in many of my watercolor paintings. Of course you can mix green from a combination of yellow and blue pigments. However, I also like to have a variety of pre-mixed greens on my palette. I call these "convenience colors." The six paints discussed in this video are my favorites.

Thanks for watching and for your feedback. I use Cascade Green primarily for trees and landscapes. I live in the Pacific Northwest (USA) and the Cascade mountains are in my backyard. Thus the name of the paint. :-) I find that the natural separation of the pigments into greens and blues and browns adds to the natural rendering of foliage.

Phthalo Turquoise is really good for floral paintings too
Cobalt Teal is also one of my favorite colors to use in paintings. Schmincke have a nice Cobalt Turquoise (PG50) too.

No offense so many have swatched these and every color, what is more interesting as artists is what can we do with them? Swatching them with everything imaginable is what would really be helpful to other artists. My swatches are kept in a book,my good ones that is because I don’t put a color in my palette that has only one use, to me it is a waste and it is just my opinion. But the color potential beyond what is common knowledge that everyone knows is what peeks my interest. Who knows I might start my own channel because there are a massive amount of mixes that are completely overlooked. Those are the things that get my brain working and interested not just every swatch, le creme de le crème. Have you ever mixed cobalt teal with phaloblue red shade? It is gorgeous and a staple in my mixes. 😊
