We have the same thing in our grill and I found your video because I was trying to figure out what North Carolina birds have eggs that look a certain way and build nests in grills...haha I don't even know how she got in there to do it but somehow she did!
But the eggs look just like those!❤❤❤

I found a nest with eggs in our hanging plant. I did not know it was there and scared the mother and she has not been back. I am hoping she comes back

We had a pair with 4 babies using a tiny bird house on our deck. The babies are living in our bushes and learning to fly and feed themselves now. Surprisingly, the male adult is cleaning out the bird house, throwing feathers and twigs on the deck. I read that they often have two clutches of babies a year, so I think they're going to be with us again. (We loved having them!) Just hearing the adult male sing was a treat.

We had the same going on this spring in our bbq. Now it’s summer and they’re doing it again. I look, but don’t get close or touch them though.

We are having the same problem. Birds made one last year and now this year two different spices of birds.

We had a pair make a nest in a sheet we use to cover plants with on our porch. We just checked the nest tonight and the eggs were sadly gone. It was nice to see them from start to finish here in your video. 💙🐣

Your experience support why Wrens are creative at finding a safe place to build their nests. Thank you for your comment!

We have a pair that have made their nest inside our garage for the past 3 years. Every morning, i open the garage door sit down with my breakfast, and watch my neighbors going to work. The wrens fly in and out of the garage for an hour or two. After a while, I close the garage door until the next day. Now I need to get a neighbor to open my door every day when we travel.

That last one fledgling had white primary feathers, not normal. Partial albinism

Cool! We have a Carolina wren nest in our grill right now! At least 2 babies in it... haven't opened the lid yet, just peeked in the open slit in the back of the grill. I love it!

Good you didn't try and preheat the grill without opening it first

Why would you think touching the nest and babies would be ok?

    • @Koraxus
      @Koraxus 5 років тому +5

as long as it's done carefully there shouldn't be a problem.
birds don't abandon their babies due to smell.

you just watched a video proving your myth is incorrect... why would u think it was a good idea to make a dumb comment like this after your reality check?

There is a time when the babies are too old to monitor because they will fledge before they are ready to. Mom and dad are always present when the babies fledge... they call and corral the babies together and lead them to safety in a dense shrub. Baby Carolina wrens can’t fly when they first fledge and can only make small hops, and it takes several days for them to be able to make short flights onto lo lying limbs. During this time it’s critical that the parents be around to care for the babies, and the fact that the parents weren’t harshly calling to them to get them all together is very concerning, and at the very least harshly scolding any human or animal that dares to come near.
Done correctly nest monitoring can be a good thing, even necessary in certain circumstances, but this also means not disturbing or touching the nest or babies. In some circumstances a person could easily cause a nesting attempt to fail.
So in the respect of touching the nest and babies, you’re correct, it’s a bad idea, and also... it’s a federal crime unless one is licensed and certified to do that.

It’s ok to touch the baby birds. Parents don’t recognize their kids by smell.

I think there's a Carolina Wren nesting in the ceramic teapot that we keep on the front porch. And yes, there are eggs in the nest.

Can you use the grill again once they move out of the grill? Is it safe?

Yes, providing you heat it up to kill any bacteria.

I'd have carefully relocated the nest somewhere safer. A BBQ isn't a safe place to nest.
