I see so many knives lately calling themselves Puukko or "Puukko Style" knives, but aren't. They've got finger coils, or small guards, maybe a large pommel, or the sharp of the blade starts 2 thirds up the blade. This right here, is a proper Puukko. One of my favorite style of knives and so many people tarnish it's name by saying their modern styled knives or whatever are Puukkos. Beautiful knife man.
people do the same thing with Bowie knives. a Bowie was/is no more than a modified butcher knife. now any shape or size knife with a guard is called a Bowie.
@@orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617 Yup Bowies have been getting the same treatment too. I've seen what was pretty much a literal cleaver with a slight tip to it being sold as a Bowie a while ago and it irked me a bit.
@@goofistmcnutty3280 i guess it doesnt hurt anything. the thing is when mentioning a certain name, in your mind you get a picture of what that style of knife should look like. i like the puukko style knives myself. in fact i just made my first attemp at one using a mora blade i modified.
There are certain types of puukko with the large pommels, but they’re from different regions. Lapland puukko have different handles compared to Saami, and Saami have a different handle compared to Suomi. I do agree with you on certain makers doing puukko knives very, very wrong though.
Perfect and stylish work, classical form and well detailed puukko for “real world”. Unlike many stylized knives, this one is a real "Finnish multitool" for a variety work. A warm and spectacular knife in the authentic northern style, as everyone knows and loves it. Thank you for visual pleasure).
I love making the sheaths for these knives, it's so satisfying to start with all the raw ingredients and end up with a work of art like this. Excellent looking knife, very clean and classic looking.
very nice , birch bark is my favourite handle material. And very good bolster fit. I wish you showed the holes in the bolster before you started hammering it on the tang.
Thanks! I tried to keep the video quite short so I didn't film every detail. But I make a hole just big enough so the bolster fits on the end of the tang and then start hammering
watching this type of handle being made I didn't age... wow... each birch bark handle is like a unique piece of art! I would love to buy one of these from you if you ship to Canada
Beautiful! I just received mine today from Lamnia with the ironwood handle and it’s beautiful. Already I am looking forward to getting one in stacked birch bark.
Very good to know you like your knife, thanks for the purchase! If you'd like to custom order a puukko with birch bark feel free to email me at mlcustomknives@gmail.com Or keep an eye on lamnia webstore, there should be more knives coming there as well.
Thanks! It not too difficult once you get started. The first few blades may be a struggle but its pretty quick to get the hang of it. A good pair of knife tongs makes the job hell of a lot easier!
Lovely work but I personally would have ground a sharpening choil just so the blade stayed level throughout it's sharpening life. Either way though very nice.

I love my 80CrV2 blade. It’s a hunting knife made by another bladesmith, real thin. Holds a great edge, has been a constant companion for years
A knife is never complete until it has a sheath. A beautiful knife must have a beautiful sheath and you created both. Very well done sir.
WOW. Now that is a propper Puukko.

Прекрасная работа и прекрасный нож. Приятно смотреть как кусок металла в руках мастера превращается в произведение искусства! Браво!
Hienoa työtä, hyvät mittasuhteet. Upea puukko👍🏻
